a friend of mine began a social-taboo-breaking-game, which I joined in, which went like this:
Someone comes up to you and begins speaking. You just stare at them emotionlessly. The person stops talking. You continue just looking at them emotionally and without speaking or nodding or making any communicative effort. You hold this very uncomfortable Maniac Stare for as long as you can take it, or until the other person gets so agitated they walk away. My friend used ot come up to me and say, "I did one today that went on for like two minutes! It was a nightmare! I don't know how the other person could stand it!" Posted by: runner at November 18, 2022 07:55 PM (V13WU) I am told there is a problem in Indonesia with villager women being eaten by pythons. The villagers put in illegal gardens on protected government land, and because of the mandate for biodegradable, sustainable sandbags and tarps, they can put in gardens that won't be seen, unlike before when they used the older blue polytarp material. Because of that the government can't spot them from the air, and the villager women go and tend them in the night when they won't get caught, more villager women get eaten by giant pythons that hunt by night. "Glamping"
Several of the guys I used to work with had campers. Expensive campers. They'd prattle on and on about their "outdoor adventures" at some campground with running water, electricity, sewers, etc. I told them that was pretty much towing your hotel room and paying for the parking spot. They never asked me to "glamp" with them. For the record, I don't camp. Never have. Don't see the allure. But towing your living room miles isn't "camping" by any stretch of the imagination. I'm contemplating a 14 mile round trip hike from my home up to our local peak (1700 ft altitude gain) tomorrow morning as penance for not exercising for a couple of months. On the plus side, if I get up early enough I'll be back around noon and have plenty of time to rest up. On the negative side, I may die of heart failure given how little cardio I've done recently. https://tinyurl.com/2s35rph6 Posted by: Skip ----- This is a misinterpretation of Florida. While election integrity is a big issue in Florida and keep the Dems from stealing, the GOP won here by matching the Dem early vote strategy. GOP had more early votes in Miami-Dade than Dems. The election was already won before the precincts opened on Election Day. ED voting was just gravy. And that is the danger of continuing to blame fraud for the losses. It misses the real issue, that the Democrats have an effective, and unbeatable (except in FL and CA right now) ballot machine. The game is not about persuading the voters, it is about finding every available ballot in the wild and getting them submitted during the early vote period. You can call this fraud if you want, but it skirts the edges of legality and is becoming more legal in state after state (Michigan question 2 passed). If the GOP doesn't play to win, they are dead. Just my $.02 worth, but voting should require some effort. You shouldn't be able to sit in bed in your jammies with the DNC voter guide, or worse, give your blank ballot to a 3rd party to fill in.
You should need to get out of bed, get dressed and go to the polling place with your crib sheet. Early voting? Maybe a week at best. No votes accepted after 8pm on voting day. I could fashion a bust that looked like a real person, just not like my model, unfortunately. Posted by: Javems at November 18, 2022 10:00 PM (AmoqO) 360

Voting by real people is the feedback mechanism to guide the State. The country profited by that feedback for centuries. Alas, that is all gone. Posted by: NaCly Dog (u82oZ) at November 18, 2022 10:04 PM (u82oZ) 363

I was in a figure drawing class, and it hit me. What am I seeing vs what I know the human figure looks like. It was a pretty big moment. I spent the rest of the semester seeking out unusual angles and foreshortening. Posted by: Pug Mahon, Gen X Ne'er-Do-Well at November 18, 2022 10:04 PM (UQUAY) 364

Posted by: Javems at November 18, 2022 10:00 PM (AmoqO) You'd get it down. Life intrudes and prevents all our practice - it does for us all. But you could take it up again and post something? That would be great! Posted by: Boswell at November 18, 2022 10:06 PM (+Cgut) 365
It's not belief. It is cold hard data. Voter file analysis backed by consumer data.
If you think all of that is fake, well not much I can do for you. You know ... you're right. I also don't believe the "data" regarding Global Warming. There's no talk we can have. Best to just skip it. Posted by: Jaguar at November 18, 2022 10:06 PM (hhw6H) 366

If I were king, I would require all existing voter rolls be discarded immediately.
All voters must re register with Real ID between now and say, August of 2024. Wisconsin had hundreds of people registered to vote that are more than 120 years old. Start anew. Posted by: gourmand du jour, overcast skies at November 18, 2022 10:10 PM (jTmQV) 370
If you put rocks around a fire, and those rocks have any water trapped inside, the heat will generate steam and cause the rocks to explode.
