The Saturday Night Joke

Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin are taking a coffee break in Yalta...
Churchill takes out a small black notebook and starts writing something
down.

"Taking notes?", Roosevelt asks.

"No," Churchill says, "I heard a new political joke about myself this
morning. I collect all jokes about myself. I already have over 100 in
this notebook."

"How funny," Stalin says. "I collect all jokes about myself too."

"Oh, really?" Churchill says. "So how many have you got?"

"Three prison camps so far." (H/T NaCly Dog )

Why should I settle for a substitute?

Woman who eats diet of bugs, mealworms and ants insists crickets taste ‘just like fried chicken’

While eating bugs and insects might remind us of Bushtucker Trials on I’m a Celeb, it’s very much the reality for Joanne Techow.

The 30-year-old, from Johannesburg, South Africa, says creepy crawlies – such as bugs, mealworms and ants – feature heavily in her diet and insists crickets taste ‘just like fried chicken.’

Joanne gets creative with how she eats them too, explaining that she sprinkles cricket power onto her salad, puts boiled mealworms on kiwis, enjoys chocolate covered silkworms and even eats insect tacos.

Karen Leaves A Note Saying That Her Guests Will Park In This Woman’s Driveway, But She’s Not Having It

We are quickly approaching the holiday season, pandas, and whatever you choose to celebrate, we hope you’re looking forward to it. And while you may be one of those pandas who shields your eyes from the holiday displays in stores and refuses to even mention the word Christmas until December 1st, sometimes these occasions require lots of planning ahead, including coordinating with relatives and friends who may be visiting from out of town.

I will not exit Twitter entirely, as I have Lawfare content to promote and Twitter is useful for many things. That said, I don’t plan to spend time here any more for purposes other than reading news and promoting our work. For those who wish to follow my work, thoughts, and sillinesses, I will be migrating most of that to Substack and Mastodon and Facebook/Instagram.

130 I have a plumbing job tomorrow that I dread. The people that owned the house before me were the exact sort of people that should have never done their own repairs.

At some point they sawed out a hole beneath the toilet nearly the same size as the toilet flange. In fact, in many places the fasteners are just sitting in the flange's fastener holes living their best lives free and unencumbered. Why? I have no idea. There's about a two inch gap around the toilet drain's OD. The flange eventually lifted out and I have a free range toilet.

So tomorrow I tackle that. There's a crawl space below but no f'ing way am I going down there. Grues live down there, obviously as well as morlocks and what have you. So I'm going to have to do my repairs to the subloor from the top side, somehow.

My hope is that the engineering gnomes visit me overnight and leave me detailed plans for the days efforts. Or lacking that I'll fashion something with a slight lip, construction adhesive the hech out of it, and make flush with the subfloor. Then I'll fix a new toilet flange down real good with a butload of screws and bob's your uncle my toilet's wandering days are over.

This may involve cussing.

I have no idea at all what's under there as far as reinforcement. So the problem's the tile floor. There's a, let's say 12" diameter space cleared in the ceramic tile for a 3" pipe. I think that's what it is and that seems fine because the toilet base completely covers the area and with a flange sits flush with the tile. But these geniuses cut a massive 10" hole in the subfloor there. And I don't want it to be all, " Well to fix the toilet I need to fix the floor requiring me to redo the tile, once I finish completely rebuilding the house from it's very foundation". That's why this is all tricky. The first time I took a look down there and realized what they did I cringed. But I'm going to beat the problem into submission in the next five days and it will be a glorious throne and one with the pillars of the earth.

Have done similar repairs. Mark the footprint of the toilet base on the floor. Masking tape, or dry-erase marker, maybe? Use a reciprocating saw and cut out a rectangle or trapezoid just inside this line. The cutout piece will contain the bodged hole. Before making the cut, but after removing the fixture, mark the center lines for the waste pipe. More masking tape. Once the rectangle is cut out, remove it. If the flange is still securely glued to the waste pipe, just make a cut into the center hole, and split the cutout off the waste pipe/flange assembly.

So now you have a large hole with a flange and waste pipe hanging in space. Cut hunks of 2X4, and glue and screw to the underside of the subfloor, with about half ...

341 I love Savannah. We built in a historic district in our town in Alabama so I gave our new house the charm of yesteryear, great big wrap around porch, crow, flat panel wainscoting, penny tile, etc. We did a metal roof and of course because it’s new, gold hurricane standard. But none of those comforting creaks of old floors. I hate the floors we ended up with, they look too grey and trendy once down. I may pull them out for reclaimed wood floors. This is an ongoing….discussion. 😂

I was vacuuming in the kitchen today, and moved a plastic tote to vacuum the floor under it. A mouse was there. It ran across the floor, and froze under the edge of the counter. I pulled the floor tool off the vac pipe, and aimed the pipe at the mouse. Schnorrrk! Up the pipe it went. Continued vacuuming, smother the mouse with dog hair and dust buffaloes. Dumped the vac's contents into the burn barrel, added some gasoline, and lit it. So long, mousey.

If it happens, the next Moon landing (with a womyns and POC) will be at the south pole region. They think there's a good bit (relatively speaking) of water there.

I can imagine that 250 years ago that lobster being served as prison food was not as refined an experience as you would find at say Sammy's Lobster Box.

I'm sure it was either under or overcooked, served in mass and eaten without fancy shell crackers or dipping butter and essentially had to be ripped apart to be consumed.

A duly sworn President Trump 47 might consider issuing Letters of Marque and Reprisal to such of the Horde that might engage the undertaking.

Raiding the corrupt counting centers in Maricopa and Philidelphia would be some rockin' good times. Oh, and such letters would absolutely override NFA '34 & GCA '68. Privateers get to use all the good .mil stuff, no questions asked. Make the Black Flag Great Again!

The smart move is to make everyone prosperous, which brings down fertility naturally.

WW1 was sufficient evidence that " elite" certainly does not have to equal "wise"

Mice are curious and poke their noses everywhere, if they smell food were they don't expect it, they may sense a trap, as it were, and back away... An unbaited trap often does not arouse suspicion...

If you're setting out traps now, try using unbaited ones as an experiment -- You may be surprised!

441 Take a bit of Beef Jerkey. Shave off tiny, tiny bits. Small as you can make 'em. Until you have enough to fill a thimble.

Mix with smooth peanut butter, and a pinch of oatmeal to firm it all up. Cram the mixture INTO the rolled circle of the mousetrap trigger, and clean off all excess so that no easy likkins remain outside of that circle.

Ratzilla won't be able to resist the allure, even if inured to most traps and baits.

Posted by: JmT at November 20, 2022 02:11 AM (9SvGI)

443

They don't have to be "atttracted"!

They will approach anything and everything out of mere curiosity, as is their habit, including your trap... But, if the trap is baited, they just may avoid it because of the bait!...

A baited trap only gets the stupid ones, I suppose...

If you have a mouse or two, you need to set traps and get the little buggers ASAP. They breed rapidly: gestation is only ~3 weeks!

Use whatever you want for bait-- mice eat almost anything. Moist, aromatic food may attract other pests, though. (In my case it was ants.)

Was getting 2 mice per trap, per day. Probably would've been more if I'd checked and rebaited the traps more frequently. Luckily this was NOT in our home, but around an outbuilding.

A few years back I had a huge battle with mice at the old house. It was in the garage, not the house itself. I would look and see a mouse in the trap, the next morning it was gone. I would search and find the mouse half eaten. I was thinking shit I'm going to need a bigger trap. Turns out the other mice were eating the dead ones, or at least one was. I knew I was finished when the last dead mouse was intact. I guess the cannibal was the last to go.

My friend goes into the living room. His guests 2 younger daughters, just about 6, walked across the street, opened the front door which was accidentally unlocked - WTH -, came into the house to see dad. Mom was asleep with baby. They didn't want to disturb her. And ventured out of the house, across the street, opened the front door to a friendly neighbor's house where they have been several times and went to find Dad who they knew was with a friend. In a small safe town. Still ballsy...
