29 The priest's left hand seems oddly rigid and he's holding it above the ground in an unnatural pose. If there were something under his hand, a puppy or a kitten or a box of some kind, it would make more sense. I wonder if this was an intentional choice on the artist's part?

Just saw some movie with Melissa someone with her potential love interest being a crab claw man. Disappointed in the movie, but I have to say that I have not seen one movie in the past 6 months that was an unalloyed enjoyment.

Artist attempt at realism did not work for me and because it didn't, I just think the piece is very amateurish. As always, with art YMMV.

105 Realist painter, Colville, was also a WW2 official war artist with the Canadian army. I can't find a good page of his war works but he also recorded events in Bergen-Belsen for posterity.

Plenty of dog paintings as well as horses, and of his family, including nudes of him and his wife in domestic situations or as models for 'fictional' works.

I was watching a bernie bot politician who was running on a platform of "jobs for everyone". His plan was the government would give everyone a job that didn't have one.

A reporter actually did his job for once and asked, "What if someone doesn't want the job the government gives them?" The answer? They'd be forced to do the job...of course.

The driver was headed to work, said Assistant Chief Charlie Sampson of the California Highway Patrol, which is handling the crash investigation.

He did not show any signs of being drunk, Villanueva said: “The driver was transported to a local hospital. (He was) negative on a field-sobriety test — blew a 0.0 on the breathalyzer.”||

Firstly, the bundle of sticks was one of the major symbols of the Italian Fascist party. Using it may be just an innocent use of a metaphor, but it's history is too clearly aligned with actual, literal fascism to be just brushed away.

Secondly, there are other ways to make the similar point without using the bundle of sticks. The Knights of Columbus use strings and rope, for instance.

Yup. You are just a link in the chain, comrade.

And what always struck me even more is the imperfections. The artist did good job rendering the pits and casting imperfections in the surface of the lead. I never got that vibe from that episode. It's not like Buffy came armed with a hammer and sickle when she entered the demons' realm -- she used their own tools as weapons. You could just as easily say it's an anti-Soviet, anti-gulag, or general anti-totalitarian statement.

Masks at scale are dehumanizing. I would get viscerally angry whenever I went out in public. Reactionary angry, no thought involved. Just rage. There are plenty of good reasons to dislike masking - the stupidity of it, the inefficacy, the contemptuous control, the deceit, etc. - but none of those good, rational reasons were in my mind when I was overtaken by raw, animal anger.

I have tried to study and understand my reaction to the masked masses. The closest I have come to an explanation is the uncanny valley problem. The masked masses aren't humans, they're human imposters. They're counterfeit and therefore dangerous. I don't know if that's what did it, but it's the best explanation I've come up with.

Never in my life have I been closer to lashing out in random violence than during that period. Just constant, bubbling, barely-containable rage every time I was in public. It was frightening.

Apparently, the whole blow up with a federal judge announcing he won't bring on ANY Yale law graduates as clerks, backed up by several other conservative justices, is going to ding them pretty hard.

Yale is on top of the list and has been for years. The score they get on reputation from judges is going to suffer, and they're going to get knocked down (I would imagine to 2 or 3), but that's not the sort of thing a dean wants to happen, especially at a place that's been on top for years. So, taking the ball and going home.

It's probably going to be worse for Yale to do this than to lose a couple of spots. It tickles me.

The dictator he was talking about is probably Suharto, who went on an anticommunist killing spree in 1965. It led to the death of somewhere between 0.5 and 1 million people. Let's take the high number. The 1964 population of Indonesia was around 97.6 million, meaning that Suharto was at the high end responsible for the death of 1.02% of Indonesians.

Pol Pot killed at least 1.5 million, and probably more than two million. In 1975, the population of Cambodia was 7.5 million. Pol Pot killed at least 20% of all Cambodians, and possibly as many as 30%.

The two aren't comparable in nominal figures or brutality of scale. To brush off criticism for the most prolific murderer in human history because he was on your team and try to point to Suharto as an example of why Pol Pot wasn't so bad is so deeply evil that the mind boggles.

My mom had an operation last year. Three of us went to visit her, and two of us were told we couldn't go in. Then shift change happened. I looked down at the sign-in sheet at people who had visitors earlier in the day and used their room numbers, as did my aunt.

The nurse in the room didn't say a word. Neither did the doctor. Neither did the other nurse. The only person who cared was the intake cop.

This. TBTP telling medical staff that anyone wanting to be a patient was actually trying to kill them. Retail workers that anyone wanting to be a customer was trying to kill them. Those wanting to be patients or customers that if the places they visited got shut down it was *their fault* for not adequately complying with constantly changing directives.

It's no wonder everyone ended up on edge and just a little more unbalanced than whatever their default setting was (and enough to send many already on the edge over into insanity).

In part, I agree. However, Griner is an athlete in high standing, so she's had so much smoke blown up her ass since youth, she knows no difference between wrong and right and felt she could get away with anything she wanted.

It's a typical product of the NCAA full scholarship athlete that makes it past college.

You are capable of making a value judgement based upon what you see. That said, you don't have to express it. You have the freedom not to speak. And choosing when to express those value judgments on what you see and when not to, is of course your call. As we know.
