Beluga Cafe

belugaboop.jpg
A beluga whale "booping" the glass at an aquarim,
from Turboapocalypse

Even cuter than dolphins and 99% less r4pish.

Monkey says this guy needs a haircut.

Baby bear catching snowflakes.

Border volleys.

Border goalie.

Pop and junior.

Doggie at sunset. Very pretty.

Interacting with the neighbor.

I don't think that IQ rating is accurate but clearly they're intelligent.

This beluga wanted to play with a kayaker. After the kayaker drops his GoPro camera into the drink, the whale kindly picks it up and returns it to him.

One thing about beluga whales, though: They hate tapping on the glass of their tanks.

Another subtle hint.

This dog is ready to vote tomorrow:

1) officially defining "genius" based on IQ hasn't been a thing since the 1930s.

iii) 155 is a score about 1 person in 8000 will hit.

I would go meta and say it was American manufacturing capability that won the war.

We literally built Liberty Ships faster than Germany could sink them, as just one example.

One could argue that in gaining that manufacturing capability (i.e. putting women in the workforce), we culturally changed, the effects of which have expanded to this day.

There's no way to know this but, wouldn't it be interesting to know what the cost was to get X piece of equipment to it's intended destination vs. what the equipment itself cost to build?

Someone did a study after the war that followed 30-06 rifle/machine gun round production and casualties during WWII. His math came out to over 1 million rounds produced per one causality caused by US rifle ammunition for the entire war.

105mm Artillery rounds caused the most casualties during the entire war.

292 276 You could say the bazooka was replaced with the LAW. When I went through ITR in the Corps, everybody had to fire one, being very cheap. NATO strategy at the time was when Ivan came blasting through the Fulda Gap, every US trooper would have one, from the clerks, cooks and bakers to the front line grunt. Might not have blasted a hole in a tank but would sure knock off the tracks.

Initially it was 57mm (2.6 in) and 75mm (approx. 3 in) recoilless rifles, using shaped-charge armor penetrating shells similar to the warhead on the bazooka round. (You need to google recoilless rifles and shaped-charge ammo if you don't know how they work; too long to explain here).

The Army also began developing an 89mm (3.5 in) Super Bazooka (original Bazooka was 57mm) post-war, after testing 57mm bazooka ammo on T-34/85 tanks it obtained from somewhere. Issue of Super Bazookas began shortly before the Korean War started. I do not think the initial US Army troops in Korea had any anti-tank weapons other than 57mm bazookas and 57mm recoilless rifles. Mostly useless against T-34/85 frontal hull and turret armor.

368 Here's my theory on Nancy. She had to run for re-election because when you're Speaker, you just have to. She will resign shortly after the new congress is in session. She'll make sure her daughter has all the right backing and money to assure getting elected.
She will do it not because she wants to but because she's vain, she's falling apart and becoming ridiculous and an embarrassment, her mind is finally coming to grips she ain't a hot 29.

Posted by: Mister Scott (Formerly GWS)

The Russians did complete paying off Lend Lease in 2006.

From Quora:

The parties did not return to the discussion of Lend-Lease debt until June 1990, during a new round of negotiations between Presidents George Bush Sr. and Mikhail Gorbachev, during which a new deadline was set for the final repayment – which would be in 2030 – and the total outstanding debt was acknowledged to be $674 million.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, its debts were categorized as either sovereign debt (the Paris Club) or debts to private banks (London Club). The Lend-Lease debt was a liability owed to the US government and is part of the Paris Club debt, which Russia repaid in full in August 2006.

And I doubt there is going to be a pullout of Kherson - the Russians are fortifying the little towns the Ukrainians couldn't take before, and replacing or reinforcing the airborne troops holding the zone with troops from the regular army moved into the zone.

The Russians were better at production by far than the Germans, and some differences in precision were planned as not being worth the effort for a tank that would likely be destroyed in a relatively short time from building.

No problem. Have fun with it. Aim Surplus Duramags run about $20 or so for 28 or 30 round mags and a bit less for 5 or 10. Most mfg AR 7.62x39 magazines work at 10 rounds or less but stick with Duramags for hi cap magazines. Be warned, they will have a curve to them for hi caps because the 7.62x39 is a tapered case for feeding.

One other note. Bearcreek is usually fine but make sure to check it out thoroughly and remove shipping grease before firing. Until you get the rifle broke in, they like to be fired wet with a light oil such as lsa or clp.

If you cannot get a grouping of shots after sighting in, call Bearcreek as their Customer Support is pretty good and swapping an upper is easier than a whole rifle. Occasionally, people will get a bad barrel that won't group which happens to a lot of mfgs but Bearcreek has a pretty good rep for fixing problems.

They were smart enough to hire a US Tank designer in the 30s who was out of work due to our flavor of socialism and he set up the mass production and the design of the T34. The Russians were better at production by far than the Germans, and some differences in precision were planned as not being worth the effort for a tank that would likely be destroyed in a relatively short time from building.

444 433 Nancy will pass the gavel, she's going to want one more standing ovation from the adoring crowd. The MSM will lap it up. Then she can formally resign and make a farewell tour through all the outlets. Joe and Mika and everyone else will be brought to tears, even Bret Baier. It'll be something.
I by something I mean vomit inducing.

Not sure about that prediction. She is vain enough but if she wants her daughter in the seat she had best get moving out. The Weiner guy is a serious competitor and already a state senator for the area and one the alphabet people.

My younger son went to the dark side after university. One day he said "fuck Elon Musk."

That spoke volumes. Musk may well be a genius. A mad genius.

But son also said "fuck jeff Bezos."

thx for the detail ... I actually also bought a Duramag 28 and a 20 round mag from gunmagwarehouse.com ... about $55 with tax and shipping. some comment said the "afc"? ones were not as dependable ... I bought one of their ten round mags.

I'll refer back to your other comments when I get it set up.

My bookkeeper paid Q3 taxes on the Q4 line. No biggie. But it took 3 hours on the telephone on hold to correct it.
IRS agent, though nice, hung up on her at the end instead of telling her. "I corrected it".

The question of when Nancy resigns will be a back-burner item, assuming the Dems make a play to get Biden out and a new VP nominated and confirmed by January 2nd, the last day the Dems will have a House majority (knock-on-wood).
