So, the Democratic candidate for Florida governor -- the unctuous former governor and congressman Charlie Crist -- decided yesterday that picking a rabid teachers' union president as his running mate wasn't enough of a poison pill for his chances. Crist figured he'd throw in a little lockdown/masking/booster razzle-dazzle for the Karen crowd as well. Because, you know, SCIENCE (TM) and New Variant (TM).

He's was already pitching himself as the out-and-proud candidate of endless masking, mandates, and lockdowns -- his running mate is a teachers union cow who wants people locked down forever, for crying out loud -- and now he's upping the ante even further. Why? Well, simple: For the grift. If you're vaguely acceptable to a lot of people, do you know what that gets you, in terms of donations? Jack. Freakin'. Squat! No, to get the grift, you need a group of people to really, really like you. It doesn't matter if you make a lot of people dislike you -- people can't not donate to you even harder than they were already planning to not donate to you, after all. But you need at least 10,000 people, preferably 100,000, to regard you as an Orange Champion Unafraid to Say the Hard Truths. You want to be someone who grasps the central truth of the teachers' unions' endless demands to inflict positive harm on children: Teachers hate children and want them to be masked & harassed forever. And Charlie Crist is now setting himself up as the head of, I don't know, the "Science Is Good" SuperPAC. He doesn't need everyone to like him. He just needs 10,000-100,000 Covid-Hardened Karens to really like him. So he is narrowing his appeal because he's giving up the election and looking only to his post-election grift. I'm not just making that up. I have a source -- noted Thinkfluencer and Coblogger Emiritus John Ekdahl of the noted John Ekdahl Press Office. He's been compiling figures from the Florida's Secretary of State's website (I think), and he wrote me about the size of the usual Democrat advantage in early voting this year. So how big is the usual Democrat advantage in early voting? Not big at all. Republicans now have the advantage in early voting, and always win in election-day voting, so this presents challenges for Pencil-Neck Thing.
@ChristinaPushaw Notice he says this unmasked to a room full of unmasked supporters. In Florida they're free to wear masks if they want, but Democrat politicians don't want to wear masks themselves. They just want to force service workers and school children to cover their faces.
In other words, the people returning the ballots are identified by party, but no one has looked inside the ballots to see how they voted. But we know for a fact that very few Republicans will be voting Democrat, meanwhile, a fair number of Democrats will be voting Republicans. Florida Democrat office-holders have broke from their party to endorse DeSantis, for example.
GOP requested roughly 1.5 million ballots. Dems nearly 2 million. Half of Dems haven't returned their ballots. GOP has returned roughly 55%. That's just vote-by-mail. In early voting, GOP is outvoting Dem by a nearly 2-to-1 margin. And there's still half a week to go. And, of course, election day is even more Republican. This is extinction-level event type stuff. Republicans typically trail Democrats in early+mail ballots headed into election day. In 2018, they trailed by 1%. In 2020, it was 1.5%. Today, with a few days still left of early voting, Republicans LEAD by 6%. This is ballots returned by party, not actual vote tallies, remember. Still is a good indicator.
Over half of Dem vote-by-mail ballots haven't been returned, and that's where they put all their eggs.That was yesterday's report. Today's report is even better for the GOP. With today's newest tally, the Republican early vote advantage has increased from 6% to 7.5%.
His numbers are here, and I must warn you against questioning them: That would be pre-election denialism, and I won't stand for that.
They're 7.5 points more republican than they were in 2020 for early votes, and they carried the state by 3.5 then. It's tracking to an 11 point victory right now, and there are still 3 days to go in early voting. Also, we think Indys are going to break much more republican than they did in 2020, and we can't account for that right now.
Unless you're a Democrat, of course. Democrats are always allowed to challenge vote tallies, obviously.

Voters don't tend to work that way. Everyone, left and right, accept that Congress is dysfunctional and does little of note. That is why the contest for the Imperial Presidency has become so harsh is because essentially Presidents are resorting to decrees to govern rather than by laws. Sometimes there is some figment or emergency power to be used buried in a statute but for Dems, they are not even bothering with that anymore--see the student loan forgiveness issue.

At the height of the mask madness I wanted to put a mask on the front of my SUV just to mock/troll the die hard maskers.
Two problems with the idea. First, I couldn't find one to buy and second, this is Oregon. The Oregon Health Authority, and I mean Authority, would think it was a good idea and mandate it for all vehicles in the state.

and even the post offices are TERRIBLE and understaffed and often closed for no reason!

Florida had County School Board elections a few months ago. DeSantis expanded his Anti CRT and Anti Groomer Mandate by electing slates of school board members that agreed with him / us. He found, campaigned, and fundraised for these people, and they won.

When you depart from paper ballots, one of the issues is that a) government IT contractors often suck, b) the people you attract as pollworkers in a lot of areas are people that might not be able to be hired at McDonalds, and c) you have cheats and grifters that exploit the confusion and use that to cheat or rig an election. Spoiling ballots is a favorite and the new electronic voting and using non standard ballots throw the tabulator into allow the human to alter the original ballot to whatever they want. They are supposed to save the original image but whaddaya know, they aren't good at computer things and erased it. Same as magic thumbdrives, they recreate a paper trail for audits by fake photocopied ballots where the image is scanned once and then multiplied to whatever matches what is on the thumb drive. BTW, there are no secure logins to the machines so no one 'knows' who made the changes. That is how adjudication in the electronic age makes cheating easier. The original evidence is shredded of course.

Already, the DOJ and FBI have both recently pissed off a lot of the courts across the country by being lying assholes in cases before judges. Most judges are not DC political judgess and are very much respect muh authoritah! types. Marc Elias and his lawfare group have been getting the shit kicked out of them recently for putting out some of their ridiculous cases in court. One such pissed off a lot of other Dem legal advisors because in AZ, Elias tried to institute some endaround citing the Voting Rights Act. What happened is Scotus took that and rammed it down Elias's neck.

Agree. Although at the time I didn't think much about it, nor think it was of any particular importance beyond the usual importance of beating the Dumocrap. But wow. It was a nuclear event. Probably not GA or AZ. You now have to present a voter id proof with your absentee ballot along with a few other changes. GA is also a runoff state and there is a Libertarian in the race. AZ has also removed a lot of the most egregious cheat methods used last time by legal changes. PA? mebbe, won't be the number of absentee ballots and given the recent PA Sup Ct and Scotus decisions, they will won't have the confusion of Covid to carry out a lot of what they did in 2020.
There is also the problem for the Dems in ticket splitting in that a registered Dem might not be voting Dem this cycle.
Biggest question seems to be Mastriano appears to be lagging versus Oz.

It is Math. There are 3 (the 4th dropped out) candidates running. A, B, C. Assume A gets 40,000 votes, B Gets 35,000 votes, C gets 30,000 votes. C is eliminated, and 17,000 of second choice C votes go to B, 13,000 go to A. A Wins with "50%" of the votes. A MAJORITY! A mandate!
Imagine instead C voters have no second choice listed. A still wins, but they won with less than 40% of the votes. No Majority, no "Mandate." Why is ranked choice better in that scenario?
Also the other choices are Lisa Moocowski and the other Democrat candidate. I would write in Mickey Mouse as my second choice in that situation.

If no one has a majority on the first round, and the other choices are blank, their vote doesn't count in the second round.

I think Thomas and Alito were ready to throw out a lot of election results from SCOTUS. Roberts lobbied hard to prevent SCOTUS from taking up any cases, reportedly with promises that Democrats would let things return to a pre-Trump political temperature. That was obviously wrong, and Alito and Thomas struck back by taking control of the conservative majority in the next term and...checks notes...overturned Roe v. Wade.
I think the conservative majority is champing at the bit to take on some outright illegal activity by Democrats regarding federal elections.

You can write in a candidate, but you can only rank that write-in as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, the same as the ones printed on the ballot.
That race is a sham perpetrated by the GOPe, the same as it always is. Outside money is flooding in, the same as it always does.
While I haven't seen numbers for the Senate race, I can tell by the number of mailers and ads that it's happening.
Over in the House race, Peltola has raked in something like $250k in in-state donations, $2.5 million in out-of-state donations.

If Tsh. is in third place? All those non votes are just that. No new votes for the other two. If Tsh. is in first or second? Those second choice votes on her ballots do not matter at all. The only thing that matters to her and the other remaining candidate are the second choices on the 3rd place loser.
Want to bet anyone that votes Moocowski or the Democrat are not going to list Tshibaka as their third choice. Imagine Tsh. in first with 35%. Moocowski has 33% and Democrat has 31% Tsh gets 20% of the 31% or 6.2% of the Democrat second choice vote. Moocowski gets 60% of the 31% or 18.6% of the dem 2nd choicers. Moocowski wins 51.6%!!! A MAJORITY! The establishment wins again! Even though Moocowski was not the first choice of 67% of the voters.

I don't think that's correct. Unless I am badly mistaken, the lowest vote getter in the first round is eliminated. Those ballots that listed the lowest vote-getter as #1 get re-tabulated using their second-choice. Those second choice votes are added to the first round totals of the surviving candidates. This is repeated until one candidate achieves 50+%.
That's why I say RCV gives the voters who picked the first loser get a second bite at their apple.
