Right On Cue, Major Leftwing Pollsters Suddenly Credit the GOP with Having a Big Lead on the Democrats

There is a very strong suspicion among poll analysts and critics. The People's Pundit Richard Barris mentioned it in his last podcast, though he's mentioned it before, and many people talk about it.

They talk about major pollsters deliberately publishing polls they know for a fact oversample Democrats and are therefore just wrong, in order to please their clients (who are often leftwing media companies and their gonzo shitlib audiences).

But then, right before the election, in the last poll before voting starts, they suddenly publish a poll showing the GOP in a much better position.

Suddenly, the Democrat oversampling they've been doing for months just poof! vanishes.

And why do they do this? Because, when people rank pollster's accuracy, they usually only look at the last poll conducted before the election.

All the deliberately Democrat-oversampling polls designed to perk up Democrat donors and demoralize Republican voters they published before the last poll are "freebies" -- they won't count as far as their official accuracy evaluation.

(A more innocent, but not completely innocent, explanation is that these pollsters know damn well it's hard to get media-distrusting conservatives to answer pollster's questions -- and don't bother to take special efforts to get them into the survey. Until it's the final poll of the season.)

So I'm not surprised to learn, get this, all the leftwing pollsters are all of a sudden showing big leads for the GOP in their last poll before the election. Unexpectedly!

Quinnipiac, which is still surveying registered voters, a more Democrat-skewing group, than likely voters, even five days before the election, suddenly discovers a completely unexpected 8-point shift in the GOP's favor from August.

Or, maybe, they just turned down the Democrat Oversample dials and published the first and last ballpark accurate poll of their polling season.

They did not take a September poll, for some reason. So it flipped from Democrats +4 in August to GOP +4. Again, among registered voters.

CNN and NPR/Marist now "discover" a GOP lead, when last month they had claimed that Democrats were ahead.

This GOP lead somehow eluded them in their "freebie" polls that will not be evaluated for their accuracy as pollsters, of course.

CNNLOL "discovers" a seven point shift in just a month. Why are you laughing? This is CNN -- the most trusted name in news.

Well CNNLOL didn't want to upset its crazed partisan viewers with ooky polls for months, but they're forced to drop this bad news just five days before the election.

NPR/Marist -- if it's from the leftwing Marxist Government, you know in your heart it's True -- detects a six point shift in just a month.

Ed Morrissey notes that these pollsters preferred excuses as to why their polls numbers have changed so dramatically.

CNN says it's because Democrat enthusiasm collapsed.

An enthusiastic Republican base and persistent concerns about the state of the economy place the GOP in a strong position with about a week to go in the race for control of the US House of Representatives, according to a new CNN Poll conducted by SSRS.

The new survey out Wednesday shows that Democratic enthusiasm about voting is significantly lower than it was in 2018, when the Democratic Party took control of the House. Republican voters in the new poll express greater engagement with this year’s midterm election than Democrats across multiple questions gauging likelihood of vote.

I'll bet you there's not much difference in Democrat enthusiasm compared to last month's poll -- not compared to 2018, but compared to their last poll claiming a three point Democrat lead -- so this doesn't explain the sudden "shift."

Ed Morrissey notes that the very leftwing Morning Consult poll continues showing a 47-42 advantage for Democrats -- among registered voters.

But it turns out among likely voters, this leftwing suppression poll shows a 46-46 tie.

Democrats Lose Generic Ballot Lead: Congressional Democrats have lost their advantage over congressional Republicans on the generic ballot, with likely voters now evenly split -- 46% to 46% -- on the question. The latest survey marks a decline over the past month from Democrats' high point (49%), and a boost for the GOP from its 44% low.

Republicans Increase Enthusiasm Edge: Republicans are more likely than Democrats to say they are "extremely" or "very" enthusiastic about voting in the midterm elections, 64% to 61%, following a dip among Democrats in recent weeks.

Biden's Approval Hits Low Among Likely Voters: Biden's job approval rating has reached a low point with likely voters, falling from a 47% high in mid-September to 42% in the latest survey. Meanwhile, 56% disapprove of his job performance.

46-46? Sure, Jan. Morning Consult tracks daily so this is probably not their final poll -- they still have a few "freebies" to play around with before producing a real poll result that can stand up to post-hoc scrutiny.

rcpgenericfivedaysout.png

One point that bears another mention: Democrats are overrepresented in solidly safe ultramarine blue districts, like major cities, and are therefore underrepresented in competitive swing districts. So Republicans are further ahead in competitive districts than a national poll would indicate.

I think most of the seats we thought we could get, we will get.

The question is about the ones we didn't think we could realistically get.

The big overrepresentation of Democrats in Democrat districts does present a firewall beyond which no red wave can go. Once districts get into the D+18 range, they're safe for Democrats. And there are bunches of those.

But there are also districts in the D+5 to D+10 range. Are those safe?

No, probably not completely safe.

Barris and others think that even D+9 districts aren't safe this year.

Meanwhile...

Well, they also create narratives that misdirect millions of dollars in different ways, most importantly by keeping the GOP from moving funds to places where it will most be effective?

NH is looking close? Push out some polls showing Mike Lee in danger of losing in Utah. That'll raise a few million for Lee, a safe seat, that won't go to NH.

42 Every presidential election, people claim the polls were right even when they were hilariously off because at the end, they'll release a poll based on x specific data that ends up being close, but also have released 100s of them before that and on that day that were way off.

Its ass-covering nonsense. Also, accuracy varies a lot. Being within 5% is either way off and a huge loss or really close and within the margin of error, depending on context and what they are trying to say.

For example, If Obama wins the presidency by 5% of the popular vote, its a big win and a mandate. But if one of Nate Silver's 79 different models is within 5% of the actual election then he is a genius who called it.

72 [T]hese pollsters know damn well it's hard to get media-distrusting conservatives to answer pollster's questions -- and don't bother to take special efforts to get them into the survey. Until it's the final poll of the season.
---
That would assume that the poll-resistant know of this tendency.

However, I think poll-reluctance in conservatives is widespread enough that it probably happens even on the last couple polls. Conservatives just have a "fuck off" mentality about being polled by an institution of liars or aides to liars.

Won't do shit. Fed Interest Rate hikes are used to make Borrowing less attractive, so banks loan less money. Loaning money through fractional lending CREATES money... thus, raising interest rates are supposed to slow down the creation of money (inflation is caused when money creation exceeds actually economic growth).

Problem is that the Fed ITSELF is the one creating money, due to it HAVING to cover the Deficit spending of the US Government. So raising interest rates will only make the DEBT LARGER... which will lead to? more printing of money... leading to more inflation.

Fed Gov has trapped the Fed Bank, into a no win situation.

The goal here is admirable, but the method is deeply flawed. Random selection is unlikely to achieve optimal levels of diversity and inclusion across various parameters like race, sex, national origin, religion, neurodiversity, disability, etc. While random selection would be superior to biased, heternormative, Eurocentric, patriarchal selection methods, they are inferior to deliberately targeting representative makeup in the workforce.

But they're going to have a huge problem - the Left is still going to control the Presidency and the Bureaucracy, and that's who runs everything on a day to day basis. So that's who people always blame.

227 198 I have always believed pollsters who think they're helping Democrats by painting an excessively rosy picture are actually doing the opposite. These sort of shenanigans always produce a wave of enthusiasm in the GOP right when you want it - a few days before the election.

It makes no difference if you demoralize you opponents in June if that means they're the opposite of demoralized when it actually counts.

Here is the thing. If they are putting a product out for 'free'-- you are not their customer. The person/organization paying the bill for the poll is. And the customer is always right.

That is probably the most damaging thing about the internet is that it essentially severed any commercial implications for a lot of media companies to go hard left. They did so because the customers were ad agencies populated by friendlies, not the general public.

It's hard to imagine what else they could dig up that would be nearly as effective at keeping a major part of the Democratic coalition on their side while also making Republicans understand the reticence of GOP lawmakers from touching leftist gains.

Nice try. Most LIV Democrats probably think the GOP still controls Congress, Fox news is actually conservative, and that the world is flat. LIV voters are simply wanting the beatings to stop and the head big man in the WH gets the blame which has not changed in decades. Last time blaming Congress worked was when the GOP tried to impeach Bill Clinton. Before that, Harry Truman.

It's funny, but that's the kind of extremist things they have to push now.

I thought the Democrat Party would start the process of splitting after a loss in 2020. Well, they got their win, and delayed the inevitable, but I think it's still coming. They'll remain together through the 2024 election, but a loss there along with all of the losses sustained in 2022 will cause some kind of split in the part. Donors, unwilling to invest in the Democrat Party anymore, could decide to go a few different ways including investing in third parties like the Working Families Party in NY to try and create some kind of foothold.

312 282 Gerrymandering creates a highly non-linear response to shifts in votes. It makes the controlling party gain districts, but they are all vulnerable in a bad year.

I do not follow any of this, but I expect a lot of blood at the state level where Dems lose everything thanks to gerrymandering. That will be the big story after the election.
Posted by: Gentlemen

Despite not following it, you have a good handle on it. Back in the day, I had a class with the instructor being a legend who was an expert court witness in many a gerrymandering case. There is an optimum gerrymander that works in most years but realignments or huge wave elections tend to have a disproportionate effect on the party that gerrymandered. Dems are increasingly having it harder because their base is shrinking to urban redoubts in many areas.

325 the key to gerrymandering is to make as many mostly-safe districts, where you have around a +5-6 partisan advantage, as possible, and minimize "partisan waste" by having districts that are +16. It doesn't matter how big the margins are in such a district -- they produce one Rep like any other district.

The problem with doing this is that in a big year for the opposite party, a partisan advantage of +5-6 is just not enough to keep these districts safe, and many if not most of them will fall to your opponents.

347 WSJ:

The new survey shows that white women living in suburban areas, who make up 20% of the electorate, now favor Republicans for Congress by 15 percentage points, moving 27 percentage points away from Democrats since the Journal’s August poll. It also suggests that the topic of abortion rights has faded in importance after Democrats saw energy on that issue this summer in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“We’re talking about a collapse, if you will, in that group on the perceptions of the economy,” said Republican pollster Tony Fabrizio who conducted the poll with Democratic pollster John Anzalone. The poll showed that 54% of white suburban women think the U.S. is already in a recession and 74% think the economy is headed in the wrong direction.

371 It's funny, but that's the kind of extremist things they have to push now.

Posted by: TheJamesMadison

I think that the future of the Dem party is to be a racial one. By ramping up race and identity uber alles, it limits your party's appeal but the voters are solid for you. An example is Belgium where the parties are based on Flemish or Walloons (languages and ethnic identity). You get that in a lot of PR states as well because the name of the game is to maximize votes for your narrow xyz party for power and grift when coalition time comes.

380 371 I think that the future of the Dem party is to be a racial one.

Voting machine/system companies will make a lot more money selling new hardware and software to counties with large populations every three years than they would from a maintenance and support contract for an existing system for ten years.

It's the same across the electronics and software sectors. When every possible iPhone customer has bought one, how can Apple maintain a large revenue stream? By selling a new phone to most/all previous buyers, not by selling replacements for failed or broken phones and new but old design phones to young people buying their first phone.

How does MicroSoft maintain a large revenue stream? Not by patching WinX forever.

If it makes you feel better, more or less, assuming no massive cheat where it is really too late to put together something like 2020 in all the state elections, this election was set way back in May of this year. Pretty much presidential approval ratings at the end of may dictate who was going run the House way back then. Senate is a bit trickier but pretty apparent the Dems are going to lose at least control on paper. Governors races are always idiosyncratic but it appears that the economic times and crime are going to work for GOP gains there. Downballot to minor state and local races, it may be a slaughter outside of urban strongholds for the Dems. Those offices are voted on using almost pure party id preferences.

what will Bolduc, Masters, and The Real Republican in Alaska owe McConnell? Or any of the class of 2022? McConnell's hand picked candidate in Colorado might very well lose.

Ask any of the Senate class of 2022 and 2020: Do you think McConnell will still be in power in the Senate for your next election? 2026 is a looong way away. 2028 is even farther away.

This is what feeds my idea that the leadership vote early next year is going to be embarrassing for Mitch. He's not going to lose it, but he's going to have a solid minority against him. That minority may not play kiss and makeup after the vote, either.

Mitch may end up outright making deals with Democrats in the Senate to get things done. The bulwark will then have to be McCarthy, who sways with the wind.

But, what you can do is use this time to prepare for collapse, elect solid people for local and state governments, and start building your friends, family, and societal institutions like home schooling groups, small home bound churches, creating your own informal neighborhood groups of kindred souls, etc. If you are in an area not safe from the tides of unrest, leave now to safer climes.

“If you get past those headlines and dig a little deeper, you would uncover an insidious and seemingly intentional campaign from Republican-backed polling firms to flood the zone and tip the balance of polling averages in favor of their candidates, to create a narrative that Republicans are surging and that a red wave is imminent and inevitable,” Reid said.

The GOP House side of things is, apparently, targeting over 70 Democratic House seats this cycle. The House side seems to be fighting as far as they can go.

It's Mitch who's being stingy with his money like refusing to fund Masters in favor of sending money to Murkowski.

The larger problem, though, is the 50 state-level GOPs that don't bother to put pro-forma candidates on ballots in every race possible downballot.

Perhaps in part but a larger reason is that GOP strategists are simply stuck in the Karl Rove era of winning narrowly by only targeting reliable voters in a relatively issue free campaign. At the state level, the state GOPers simply do not want to raise turnout among urban dwellers that might split a ticket to vote for one national GOP candidate but Dems otherwise. They also fear that a strong campaign by a GOP candidate in an blue area will lose but mobilize a lot of Dems voters that would otherwise stay at home.

It is all about the base election. Indies are driven away by a barrage of negative ads that cause them to despair that both candidates are repulsive. Dems do some of this themselves but can't control who are candidates always.

But the question is, which is the larger concern? A tiny sector of the population who doesn't get new ID, or the overall problem of electoral integrity for the other 99.09% of the population?

there's nothing we can really do except harass and investigate.

540 GOP never has wanted big turnout as their strategists figure that it will result in more losses than wins. That makes a warped kind of sense for a corporatist cheerleading party, less so for a more populist one.

If the GOP wants to become an actual governing party, they are going to have to axe most of their past predispositions to favor corporate interests. The whole what is good for GM is good for the US should be left in the Eisenhower era. Ditto for any cuts. Ignore SS and Medicare, go after welfare for elites and corporations first. That is how you win politically but probably not at grifting opportunities.

That is possible - but I don't think Mitch can do this. the 2024 class will be MAGA on steroids. If he wants to go out as leader, he cannot do that. And the backlash if he does that will so extreme that the dems will have to hide in 2024. The dems want the GOP majority to check Joe so they don't have to. Playing nice with Mitch makes them the villian. Mitch will just try to play hearing theater and pocket a shit ton of money and do what he can to try and remain Majority Leader in 2025.

McCarthy just has to make sure he holds his caucus together or else he won't be speaker in 25. So he is somewhat restrained. There won't be enough dems to save him now, and even fewer in 2025.
