Wall Street Journal: White (Non-Based) Women Have Shifted from +11 Democrat in August to +15 GOP Now

The non-based white women, who are like unfastened sails in a storm, got themselves into a lather over abortion -- this is a group that is constantly getting into lathers, and is singularly sensitive to whatever the media tells them the Current Thing is -- but as that lather has faded, they remembered once again that inflation is skyrocketing, the Democrats locked their children out of schools for two years, and the only thing the Democrat-protected teachers unions want to teach are transgenderism, Drag Queen Theory and Practice, and CRT.

Supposedly the GOP only leads 46-44 on this silly poll.

While the two-point Republican lead is within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points, it also marks a meaningful improvement for the GOP since The Journal's last survey, in August, when Democrats held a three-point advantage on which party voters would back for Congress. Republican voters also show more enthusiasm to vote than do Democrats, the survey finds.

The shift in preference for the GOP comes as views of the economy have turned more dour than at any point in the past year. Only 19% say the economy is headed in the right direction, down 11 percentage points from August, while 71% say the economy is on the wrong track.

wrongdirection.jpg

Voters lack confidence in President Biden's economic leadership, with only 27% saying his policies have had a positive impact on the economy and 54% saying they have had a negative impact. A majority of voters--55%--disapprove of Mr. Biden's overall job performance, compared with 43% who approve.

bidenomicimpact.png

The GOP has seen a shift in its favor among several voter groups, including Latino voters and women, and particularly white suburban women. That group, which the pollsters said makes up 20% of the electorate, shifted 26 percentage points away from Democrats since the Journal's August poll and now favors the GOP by 15 percentage points.

A poll from a couple of weeks ago showed an even bigger shift of thirty two points, from Dems +18 to GOP +14 (or maybe it was D+14 to R+1.

The WSJ maybe shows the lower range of the size of the shift, and maybe the earlier poll showed the higher range of the shift.

Enthusiasm among hispanics and blacks is down. And I'll bet you, where hispanic voter enthusiasm is high -- it's mostly on the GOP side.

motivationbyrace.jpg

Republicans say they are more motivated to vote than Democrats, the poll found. Some 68% of Black voters and 64% of Hispanic voters--groups that favor Democrats--rated themselves at the highest level of motivation to vote, far below the 83% of white voters and 79% of voters overall.

Ed Driscoll links this interesting and almost certainly accurate reading of of Emily Oster's "let's forgive all the people who got covid so catastrophically, willfully wrong" non-apology: Emily Burns (no relation) thinks this is an attempt to get white women, who moved from the GOP to the Democrats in 2018 and now back to the GOP due to the Democrats' endless lockdowns and mandates (and other school-related lunacies), to stop being mad at Democrats and Please Ladies Vote For Us Again, We'll Be Better Next Time I Promise.

First, let's be clear to whom Emily Oster is speaking. She's speaking to the furious well-educated suburban women who are swinging towards Republicans in this cycle, even in the bluest of states. Because it was the bluest of states that were hit hardest by these policies....

The problem for Emily is that while the hardcore democrat base of women voters never questioned any of these policies, others did--and they incurred significant personal costs for doing so.

An embarrassing portion of well-educated women acted as the regime's stormtroopers. They sicced social media mobs on any who dared to voice a question, much less dissent. The pain of having family, friends and neighbors turn on you for voicing an opinion or asking a legitimate question caused many women to seek out others with similar questions.

...

Now, after having been called terrorists by our governments for arguing for the well-being of our own children, Dr. Oster wants us to forget that. In asking us to forget, she beseeches those who strayed from the flock to return, to believe that it is not their shepherd who takes them to slaughter that would do them harm, but the wolf lurking unseen in the shadows of the wood. So now we must talk about abortion.

It's a good 'un.

5 I've been saying this for a while but inflating the currency intentionally as they did was a terrible choice.

LIVs don't care about deficit spending. But they DO care when you double the prices for gas, food, and home heating.

I don't see how waiting another month for the actual decision would have made things better politically. There still wasn't time to actually do anything legislatively and it was still at least 5 months from the election, plenty of time for things like the economy to retake its normal lead as a prime issue.

I mean, it could have been the plan. Bad plans are still plans, but it mostly feels like a side losing having no idea what to do and lashing out. I think there was real hope for violence against someone like Kavanaugh.

86 I'm sticking with my theory that the Dobbs leak to Politico came from the WH. Someone on SCOTUS gave the admin a copy of Alito's draft in order to give them time to prepare a response, and they chose to leak it in April as a distraction from the bad news piling up. The problem is that doing so eliminated any impact that Dobbs might have on the election. By the time the opinion was released, it was old news. Worse, everyone watched as the Dems failed to take any actual measures to deal with it, so now the Dems looked impotent as well.

McConnell will run for majority leader and win (the vote is behind closed doors, secret, and only requires a majority of the caucus, not the whole Senate).

The only question is how many votes he fails to get on the first ballot and if there will be a second, perfunctory, ballot to give him a unanimous decision for unanimity's sake. If that second vote doesn't happen because someone like Bolduc refuses to move, expect the news to leak and McConnell to be really pissy.

231 I'm sticking with my theory that the Dobbs leak to Politico came from the WH.

Something one of my sergeants told me. He said that when America votes at the 50% level that is a good thing. That means for the most part, American's are satisficed. They are happy, generally, with the way things are. There will always be those that vote, and that is fine, but for the most part, things are good.
When voting gets above 60% it is a sign of trouble. When that many Americans get motivated to vote, they are pissed off about something.
And anything near 70% or above, watch out. We like to live in peace, but once angered, swift to take action.

I agree that impeach of the prezzie is not useful. However, the Brits back in impeachment's heyday in the 1500 and 1600's used it effectively to go after the king's minions. In the case of Mayorkas and Garland, the embarrassment of being impeached and going through those processes and inquiries will stymie a lot of departmental action and make their legacy being the first cabinet officials to be impeached since the 1870's.

Joe Biden claims that he spoke to the man who invented insulin.

Zach Parkinson @AZachParkinson · 27m
This is bizarre for several reasons:

Insulin was discovered by more than one person (two or three or four depending on how you want to credit)

It *was* patented (the patent was sold for $1 to the University of Toronto)

Those co-discoverers died in 1935, 1941, 1965, & 1978

Embrace the power of and. Impeachment inquiries need not actually absorb the entire House or Senate. Under Nixon v. US (not Tricky Dick but Judge Nixon), the Senate can appoint a special impeachment committee to hear evidence and render it to the entire Senate for a vote. In the House, it has always been this way. Power of "and." First one, then the other. At the risk of going Godwin, the postwar experience regarding Germany is probably a good model.

The worst of the malefactors should be formally punished but not all malefactors can be. There are too many. So formally punish the worst of them and thoroughly repudiate their ideology, making it so nobody will ever admit to having subscribed to it in the first place and everyone is terrified of a recurrence.

Then you can have something approaching "amnesty" for the masses.

If it comes to it, it's going to be a result of their choices. We've bent over backwards avoiding the worst. If you have any spine, that only goes so far, so long.

Once upon a time, they actually did funding and revenue bills along with investigatory hearings even of their own party. Essentially, the whole legislative branch has become hollowed out.

Just think of it, how many new conservative voters would there be in this scenario right now. Every right leaning person has 6-7 kids, raises them right, they mostly have 6-7 kids and raise them right... by now we'd have a 3:1 majority over the left, or more.

Posted by: The ARC of History! at November 01, 2022 04:38 PM (I2/tG)

The Russians have been fighting in the Donbas sector - center and had very light troops on other fronts. Ukraine at various times has attacked on other fronts to get a press victory, but the Russians reinforced. In August they put up enough pressure with their offensive to have the Russians, who were low on manpower, pull back out of some areas to other lines, but the call up of troops is reversing the lack of manpower.

People look at the map and see a blue blotch and red blotch, but neither side really has a continuous front. They have forces in towns and villages with gaps between covered by guns and airpower. The Russians are also started fortifying villages they hold, something the Ukrainians have been doing in the Donbas for 8 years.

Israeli society has a lot of issues--significant differences in ethnic origins (Sephardim v. Ashkenazi), social class, a significant Arab minority in Parliament that no coalition so far has dared to take into government, and the religious versus secular argument. Recent immigrants from Russia and Ukraine versus older inhabitants. Ultra Orthodox have the highest birth rates but often eschew service in the military and demand subsidies for religious studies along with promoting unpopular rules in places they control (like the Sabbat).

So formally punish the worst of them and thoroughly repudiate their ideology, making it so nobody will ever admit to having subscribed to it in the first place and everyone is terrified of a recurrence.

Then you can have something approaching "amnesty" for the masses.

Without certain kids, so many less public programs & employees. Without certain other kids, less higher education, sports and leisure programs & related employment. Perhaps the children at each end of the scale have particular economic value. The value for the children in the middle is their parents gainfully employed & laying off the powers-that-be arses.

No idea what the new rules are but yeah, minefields that weren't on an obvious military site or marked as a mine zone were never thought well of - caused damage without military benefit.

There was an incident in Sherman's march where the Rebs or someone had planted a "torpedo" (land mine) in a random road the army was using. He used some POWs with sticks to detect any other and sent the Reb cavalry a nasty note. Again, the idea of blowing off a foot with no military position around and no markings was thought wrong.

646 ome small areas in France are still officially off-limits because of buried WW1 shells and mines. Especially near the Verdun battlefields. Long ago the French government decided this was less costly in money and lives than trying to find all of the un-exploded items and make them safe one way or another.

same in Russia, teams go out to find unexploded shells and remains of missing troops.

647 I never believe these articles.

Every election we hear how this time it will be different. This is going to be the election when women and minorities turn out in significant numbers for the GOP. This time we're told a new and unassailable coalition will be built that will insure that Republicans and conservatives will be in power for decades.

Then nothing happens since it was all click bait bullshit.

649 OT: If someone knows of a good source of Ivermectin in San Diego, pls let me know.
My :::type, deletes::: brothers-in-law gave the wife and me the 'Rona. It's bad news for us; she's a diabetic on chemo, I'm a transplant recipient. So far not so bad as fever of 100.5°, sinus headache and fatigue, but I figure it will get worse.

You should be able to buy it OTC from a pharmacy in TJ. I know for a fact it can be bought in pharmacies in Los Algodones, near Yuma. No scrip needed.

650 609. I think the land mine incident in the War for Southern Independence was at the Battle of Selma. That may have been the last battle of any size in the war. Forrest commanded for the Confederates. I've forgotten Federal commander, but it was not Sherman; he was in North Carolina. Selma was an arsenal and Forrest cleverly laid the land mines. Afterwards the pissed Federal commander ordered POWs marched over the mines until they all exploded. But the Federals were the good guys and Forrest was evil incarnate, right?

655 28 I'm sticking with my theory that the Dobbs leak to Politico came from the WH.

Oft evil will shall evil mar. I still maintain newbie Justice Jackson was behind it (maybe via a leak to the WH). Everything about her prior career indicates a view of judicial rulings as "politics by other means", and this unprecedented breach of court norms suddenly happened at almost the same time as she was added to the court's internal email distribution.
