The Morning Report — 10/24/22

luntzduncestuntz.jpg

Good morning kids. Two weeks and a day until the midterms, where the GOP is set to wrest control of both chambers of Congress. Barring serious and coordinated Democrat election tampering, which would have to be in more than just a handful of crucial districts, anything from the GOP gaining a minimum number of requisite seats to a massive, generational tsunami of a wipeout is expected to occur. Regardless of the outcome, insofar as what size majority the GOP wins (and I do think it will be significant), what will really have changed? Yes it still is crucially important that we do retake the Congress, for no other reason than to halt the legislative agenda of the Kalorama Klown Komintern and the gibbering meat puppet they installed in the Oval Office.

But given the fact in the wake of what happened two years ago, what does that even mean? What constitutes regular order and the rule of law when the instrumentalities of government have been wielded to oppress dissent and crush political enemies? The rhetoric that is being spewed by the house organs of the regime, i.e. the so-called mainstream media, as well as that of elected (legitimately or otherwise) officials themselves up to and including "president" Sponge-Brain Shits-Pants himself has been eliminationist in content and tone. If by their definition that half the nation is evil, cancer, racist, fascist and "deniers," how do you think they are going to react to an historic ass-kicking at the polls at the hands of said evil, cancer, racist, fascist and "deniers?"

A state of emergency beforehand or the nullification of the results after the fact, given everything we have experienced for the past few years, cannot be dismissed out of hand as crazy talk. Even if they do hand the gavel over to Kevin McCarthy and company, after two years of labeling Trump's and at least some of the GOP's protestations about 2020 being stolen, and Trump being the American Hitler, what do you think the reaction is going to be when (I assume it's a when and not an if) the J6 kangaroo court is shut down by McCarthy? Is he even going to shut it down in the first place?

Yes, the Democrats will soon chant democracy is dying because they are terrified it is thriving as never before. And that grass-roots resurgence is mostly because Republicans are no longer so easily stereotyped as the out-of-touch party of aristocratic Mitt Romneys and condescending Bill Kristols. . .

. . . Joe Biden is not just an obnoxious, off-putting, snarly, and enfeebled president. He is also captive of the most radically destructive, left-wing agenda in the White House since 1933. On energy, inflation, the border, debt, crime, racial relations, and foreign policy, the Left’s project has proven an utter disaster that has hollowed out the middle class and embarrassed the nation in under two years.

Yet, there will not even be a futile, last-minute progressive attempt at correction.

Leftist ideologues never backtrack from their long-march agendas. Instead, as religious nihilists they would rather be purist in their destructive policies that alienate the voters—rather than win them over as apostates by moderating their views. . .

. . . Instead, they will fall silent on the very policies they enacted on their age-old principle that the opiated masses never know what is good for them.

Given these realities, expect the Republicans to end up with a near historical majority in the House and firm control of the Senate.

What then should we expect after the midterms? . . .

. . . They fear not what Republican majorities may actually do, but what they would do if they were Republicans and suddenly gained the Congress after being smeared by the party in power.

That is, the Democrats fear that the Republicans might remember what the Left did while in legislative control and would see that as the new model for an incoming majority.

Consequently, will a Republican Senate simply refuse to confirm Biden’s ultra-left appointments and judges, on the theory they will inevitably do the damage of a Merrick Garland or Alejandro Mayorkas or prove sanctimonious nincompoops like a Pete Buttigieg or Xavier Becerra?

Will the Republicans subpoena an array of left-wing activists and Democratic functionaries? Will jail sentences await any who retry the Eric Holder gambit of congressional defiance?

Will they adopt the January 6 committee protocols?

I think lurker extraordinaire Victor Davis Hanson knows the answers to his questions, as I had alluded to as my lead-in to this excerpt. Part of me wants to be charitable and give Frank Luntz's houseboy the benefit of the doubt in not wanting to tip his hand and stir the pot too close to the midterms. The estimable Robert Spencer is not so charitable.

McCarthy declared that Americans don’t “like impeachment used for political purposes at all,” and added that “the country wants to heal” and see a “system that actually works.” That means there will be no impeachment proceedings against Biden, or Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary and former Disinformation Governance Board supreme overlord Alejandro Mayorkas, or Gestapo chief Merrick Garland. Leave billions of dollars worth of materiel in Afghanistan for our enemies to use against us? No problem! Open the Southern border so that untold numbers of criminals and terrorists can waltz right into the country? Hey, we all make mistakes. Sic the woke FBI against parents protesting at school board meetings against the far-Left agenda in public schools? We all can get carried away! Impeachment? Forget it. It wouldn’t be the decent thing to do.

When McCarthy was asked if he saw any grounds for impeaching any officials of this lawless and authoritarian administration, he answered: “I don’t see it before me right now. You watch what the Democrats did – they all came out and said they would impeach before Trump was ever sworn in. There wasn’t a purpose for it. If you spent all that time arguing against using impeachment for political purposes, you gotta be able to sustain exactly what you said.”

Well, sure. There shouldn’t be any impeachment for political purposes. The two impeachments the Democrats perpetrated against Trump were travesties of justice; the framers of the Constitution never intended impeachment to be used as a weapon against a political opponent. But McCarthy’s assumption that any impeachment proceedings that the Republicans bring if they win back the House in November would be politically motivated in the same way is unfounded. What if Biden, or Mayorkas, or Garland actually violated the law? What if they abused their power in persecuting “MAGA Republicans,” purveyors of alleged “disinformation,” and Jan. 6 “insurrectionists”? Could we get any impeachments then?

For McCarthy to wave away even the prospect of impeachment as stooping to the Democrats’ level and engaging in politically motivated prosecution is disquieting on several levels. The most immediate one is the fact that there may indeed be impeachable offenses that warrant serious investigation. Secondary but likewise important is the fact that the Republican establishment these days always seems to be adhering to the “decency” and “civility” that was said to be the hallmark of American politics in bygone days while they’re getting their pockets picked. The Democrats have left “decency” and “civility” in the dustbin of history with the old Democrats of whom they used to be proud, such as Andrew Jackson and Thomas Jefferson (who wasn’t actually a Democrat at all, but they used to claim him). The Republicans should indeed not stoop to their level, but having a Republican president smeared, defamed, framed for crimes he didn’t commit, and vilified in the most extravagant terms for four years and then responding by saying they’re going to do the decent thing and not fight back is just asking for it all to happen again.

Spencer defines the GOP and Dems as "the Stupid Party" and "the Evil Party" respectively. While there is no doubt about the latter, I still cannot accept the definition that the GOP is stupid. They know what the Dems are doing and have done for decades but they go along with it, mostly to make a buck off the destruction. They are quite content to keep the nation moving ever-leftward and send it hurtling into the abyss. The only president from our side who actively campaigned and attempted to not just slow down the pace of the destruction but to actually throw the engine into reverse was Donald Trump.

And for his sins, he has been and continues to be crucified by both the Democrats and the GOP. He exposed the collusion, the hypocrisy and the myth of the two-party system. I expect McCarthy to not do a damned thing and perhaps, worse, to even allow the J6 committee to continue, albeit with actual Republicans at the head of the committee. I understand the rationale, and it will be a complete disaster and abomination as it would give the entire enterprise a respectability and legitimacy it does not deserve.

So, even with a red wave tsunami, we sail blissfully onward over the cliff. Meh, we are in some sort of interregnum. Regardless of our fate, be it a thousand years of darkness or the restoration of some sort of republic as it was intended or at least as we had imagined it, things are going to get ugly for the foreseeable future.

12 Interesting way to phrase it:

The intellectual debate has even spilled into real-world conflict: right-wing militants affiliated with the Proud Boys and the Three Percenters have staged protests against drag events for children, while their counterparts in the left-wing Antifa movement have responded with offers to serve as a protection force for the drag queens.

Right wing militants, who have never been violent, "stage a protest" while the leftwing AntiFa, known for violent riots, but not described as militant here, offers protection.

23 I'm surprised more people aren't making the case that we will not be permitted the verdict of November 8th. After all, we were not permitted the verdict of 2020 (and they've had two years to refine and fortify their techniques). But perhaps it's not so much a "case" as a prediction; and as I see it, a fairly safe one given the psychopathology of the people in charge.

If those people do not feel they can command sufficient fraud to corrupt the vote and outcome on 11/8, I suspect we will see some sort of cataclysmic event prior to it. We may see one anyway. The Ukraine-Russia conflict is ready-made for it. But how would this affect November 8th? Who knows, except that these people can only think in terms of "crisis equals opportunity." The threat of WWII qualifies.

24 McCarthy might not want to tear off the scabs because of what's under them. Going after the junta will likely expose the GOP for what it really is. But he's still a feckless dickhead.

27 There is no slippery slope!!

There was some reason to believe that Rubin might be right. The sexual revolution had been conquering territory for two decades: the birth-control pill, the liberalization of laws surrounding marriage and abortion, the intellectual movements of feminism and sex liberation, the culture that had emerged around Playboy magazine. By 1984, as Rubin acknowledged, stable homosexual couples had achieved a certain amount of respectability in society. But Rubin, the queer theorists, and the fetishists of the BDSM subculture wanted more.

30 I don't intend to defend McCarthy, but simply to note - he is primarily a follower, not a leader. What happens in the next Congress depends on the size and nature of the new majority. If that majority of new MAGA members is big enough, then they will be able to push McCarthy into steps he'd never think of doing all by himself. If people like Joe Kent win, then the new House could be quite interesting indeed.

David Strom has a good piece up over at HA about "The Dem's Last Talking Point." Looks like the word has gone out that the last two weeks before the election are going to be dominated by every dem chanting in unison, "Republicans will destroy the economy if you elect them!" Now there are about a thousand ways to point out how idiotic it is of them to select this as their big push, but it's looking tonight like they have talked to Gozer and Made Their Choice. Changing the culture of an institution that's hundreds of years old, corrupt to its core and populated by the worst type of people isn't going to happen via the very institution they now control. Ever.

85 Kudlow said that the economy is about to slide into a recession, and Biden's policies have failed catastrophically.

"I've never understood these crazy assertions. Utter fraud. I mean just to look at the numbers," Kudlow told Bream. "When Joe Biden was inaugurated, the economy was growing at about 6.5 percent. The inflation rate was barely above 1 percent. And in the course of the next 12 to 15 months, 18 months, he took that economic boom and essentially turned it into a recession because of all the inflationary federal spending and regulating and the war against fossil fuels."

Kudlow nails it. I watched part of a debate between Don Bolduc and Maggie Hassan, and she tried to claim repeatedly that Biden policies weren't causing the economic destruction. All over the country I'm sure Democrats are trying to do the same thing.

They are admitting the J6 committee is a partisan joke kangaroo court. Suddenly, they aren't bashing Trump left and right.

HA locked out commenters with a paywall b/c commenters were embarrassing them by pointing out how leftist HA was. that apparently didn't work to save the brand, so they fired AP and hired some actual (seemingly) conservative writers. Let's see how long HA sticks to trying to be conservative before Ed Morrissey moves them back to being reliable leftist allies.

The paywall had nothing to do with AP, it's a PJM/Salem-wide thing. They're copying the Babylon Bee, which has made a lot of money with pay-to-comment.

America will never go back to being a nation of law unless the people using the FBI and DOJ unconstitutionally as secret police against political opponents are held accountable. Such open and obvious corruption cannot go unanswered or the concept of rule of law is destroyed. As it is now, a large majority of Americans don't trust any of our institutions (correctly so). that trust will not be regained by "a regular budgeting process".

The GOP can and must do both.

156 McCarthy declared that Americans don’t “like impeachment used for political purposes at all,” and added that “the country wants to heal” and see a “system that actually works.”
++++
McCarthy is right, at least when it comes to my opinion on the matter - but definitions are important.

Presidential impeachment is a side show. It would be just and legitimate, but ultimately pointless. Even if it works, you just get a different (likely more competent, but not necessarily) figurehead in front of the same old deep state junta. Lesser impeachments of cabinet members would be more fruitful.

But I do want some healing and a system that works. And a prerequisite for "healing" is meting out punishments to wrongdoers. Use that system and make it work. Fix your budgetary process. Write some de-enabling acts and re-constrain the executive. Use the power of the purse if they don't comply. Show me a return to order that punishes and constrains the malefactors and you'll get your "healing," McCarthy.

But that probably isn't what he means by it.

Done properly, pay-to-comment can work. There are at least three necessary conditions for "done properly:"
1. The price has to be reasonable
2. The product has to be good
3. There must be bonus content (that also has to be good) in addition to commenting

The Bee has nailed the last two. I don't know if the price is reasonable because it isn't worth it to me, but they have good content (they're actually funny) and they have bonus content for paying customers. The paying customers get the whole package, which I imagine is pretty good.

The problem with outfits like HA is that the product sucks and any bonus content is likely to be lousy just like the main content is.

Bingo Bango. Return to budgetary order and constraining the hell out of the executive by refusing to pay it, letting the government shut down, and not blinking first is the first step. Then comes the harder part, which is legislation. The deep state problem is wholly Congress' making. Every executive agency run amok was made possible by Congress' enabling acts that outsourced their own job - lawmaking - to the executive. De-enabling acts are necessary, too.

But start with the budget.

To me, it appears pretty clear that they were trying to save HA by limiting negative comments about their leftism and when that didn't work - they suddenly decided to turn the ship around, get rid of AP, and change the tone from nevertrump leftism to conservative writers.

But, it's the same management, so they will eventually try to slide back into nevertrump leftism and hope nobody notices.

210 I'm seeing something interesting happening around the neighborhood where I live, and I'm not sure what it means. But, I think it's a positive development.

Over the last few days, the yard signs for Democrat candidates like Betoff are being removed. I believe this is by the homeowners themselves as there are still a few signs in the area like the "Mothers Against Living Babies Greg Abbot" still up. But, most have gone away.

I think it's probably two things:

1) Democrat voters are being Red Pilled due to the policies of their awful party. The unmasking continues. Memes like: "What did you hate about Trump? The Peace or the Prosperity?" may be having an effect

2) The "Cool Kids" Syndrome - Democrat success has always been tied to the media-generated perception that they were the "cool kids" and "good people" simply by voting Democrat. Again, the Democrat horrible policies may be making them feeling like stupid suckers who want kids mutilated and the economy destroyed. And no, people don't like idiots who are voting for that.

Have any of you noticed the same thing in your area?

The result of the Colorado Senate election will be the seating of an anti-Trump Senator. A Dem anti-Trump Senator or a Rep anti-Trump Senator.

While we can bemoan the fact that the primaries didn't go as we would have preferred, better someone who will vote your way 40% of the time than someone who will vote your way 0%. Then you can spend the next 6 years finding someone who can beat him in the primaries AND win the general.

Agree with you, with one added point: McCarthy intends to promote country club Republican issues instead, and while a goodly number want impeachments and are going to be denied, almost no one wants his recent "list of priorities". If Republicans do even one damn thing for big business, or pass corporate tax cuts, or even reported to meet with Paul Ryan, they will blow up the 2024 election completely.

No one trusts the GOPe, to include McCarthy. My advice to him is "act accordingly". You guys are walking on eggshells.

What I've noticed is a local focus. I don't know if that's common here (it's my first midterm here), but almost nothing for governor or federal offices. Lots of signs for local issues and races like county commissioners and ballot measures. I have noticed that a lot of places that had Biden signs and those "In this house we believe ..." signs now have no signs at all.

But the Democrats aren't "cool." The establishment power system is never cool, and they're it. Nobody on the Left liked it when Paul Joseph Watson and others noted that being conservative was the new counter-culture, but it didn't make those guys wrong.

Even that change was designed to limit negative HA comments. that change was made so people couldn't comment anonymously.

Everything HA has done along the way was designed to limit the negative feedback, until, business-wise - they couldn't ignore it any longer and had to get rid of AP and the nevertrumpism.

262 Global Cooling....

There is, or was, an astrophysical study done decades ago on the effects the sun and our solar system encounter as it travels through space. The theory, as best I can remember is that the sun sort of pulsates as a result of dust, gravity, whatever, at "X" intervals. When looking at the timeframes this would appear to align with warming and cooling trends.

The point being someone at one point in time realized there was a trend. But, the alarmists overtook the research and you don't hear much, if anything about our sun and the influences on it rather than influences on the earth.

Exactly right with only one quibble. Right now there is no basis for impeachment as defined by the Constitution. Could there be? Yes but none of it has been litigated because Democrats both in Congress and within the FBI, DoJ refuse to pursue the development of legal cases. Irrespective, as a political issue impeachment is a loser. It was the beginning of the end for Democrats and with expectations high that Republicans, if seated, will work on the issues they were elected to work on, it would be a fatal mistake.

Midterms are much harder to steal because there are a lot of races, turnout tends to be lower and the layout of races make it less easy to disrupt entire outcomes from one corrupt urban center.

I think the "red wave" will probably happen. I also expect them to do nothing with it and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory like they always do. I expect some great soundbites, a bunch of hearings and committees, a lot of showmanship and nothing meaningful.

The best way that Donald Trump can deal with McCarthy is if he runs for Speaker himself. He puts McCarthy on notice that he needs to tow the line or else. It puts the House GOP on notice to formally recognize the true leader of the Party. It sets up Trump to be in the direct line of presidential succession, once he gets the House to impeach both Biden and Harris, which can conceivably happen with a Republican Congress. And, he can still run for POTUS in '24.

312 Political Stunt? Viral Abortion Horror Story in Missouri Perfectly Timed for October Surprise

******

They tried playing a similar scenario a few days ago in Texas. Misrepresenting the medical management of impending second trimester miscarriage and claiming it is because of restrictive anti-abortion laws.

In the Texas case, it was a desired pregnancy (in vitro) and there was fetal cardiac activity. Mother had incompetent cervix (premature dilation), which threatens miscarriage. An appropriate wait-and-see approach was advised. After signs of infection developed labor was induced (medical abortion for maternal risk) appropriately.

Obstetricians for Reproductive Justice became involved after the fact and convinced her that a surgical abortion should have been done at the time of the initial visit.

An obvious emotion-based political ploy.

Obviously, any impeachment attempt would fail; this is DC, and the hive will protect the queen no matter what. And, of course, the reason the GOP would never even initiate an an impeachment, is that they are hive-people, too.

What has no bearing on this is what "the country wants," as the smarmy McCarthy pretends to be so concerned about.

Brandon is despised. At this point, if McCarthy said "when we take control of both of Houses, McConnell & I pledge to impeach and remove Brandon, and then have him flogged with a length of extension cord on national TV," the GOP would probably pull down supermajorities next month.

Did anyone ever figure out what was wrong with that Georgia politician's kids car that violently exploded and threw itself a hundred yards off the road after being involved in a mild sideswipe?

Seems like that sort of thing would need a recall on the make and model.

Oh, nothing? Well, nothing except the investigator immediately died, too IIRC and then no one else said a peep for some mysterious reason?

Posted by: andycanuck (yikp0) at October 24, 2022 09:12 AM (yikp0)

These moves are almost as comical (and pathetic) as the Democrat's moves lately. Kherson is not going to be taken by assault; Kherson will be taken when all hiways, bridges, and railroad links are cut. (only one or two left open) It's been well documented that one of the Russian army's biggest flaws is their ammunition burn rate; they tend to shoot everything they've got as soon as they get it. Once supply lines are cut they can hold out 3, 4 days maybe - no more.

This is not the Red Army of the 1940's; a lot more like the Czar's Army of 1917.

Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at October 24, 2022 09:11 AM (K5n5d)

It's because of the privileged position of works in museums, especially large national museums. The world's major art museums are dominated by dead white men and the exhibition of their works - exhibition that is virtually exclusive - underscores and exposes the systemic preferences of the white-supremacist, heteronormative, ethnocentric, jingoistic and patriarchal power structure that continues to dominate the world.

To improve representation in the arts, the art museum concept itself acts as a barrier. This barrier is doubly effective when the museum structure remains hopelessly regressive and backward. In order to improve diversity and inclusiveness in the arts, the art world must be decolonized and the museum system is an obvious starting point.

Destroying art works is not a good way doing it, but the targets - museums - are just.

A republican majority will accomplish nothing other than stopping the left from passing bills. The deep state still will control all the regulatory agencies.

Look at what the left has accomplished in a short 22 months. Or rather what they have fucked up. McCarthy and McConnell will accomplish nothing.

The economy is permantly wrecked. Nothing they can do can revive it, and thus two more years of awfulness and the leftist press blaming it all on republicans, will mean 2024 will be a very very tight election. No red wave. The left will be so excited and eager to destroy and win again they will be doing their ballot box things in broad daylight.

416 I thought the pay to comment was because companies like discus wanted the sites to have more control over what was posted? If it didn’t marry up with their version of controlling hate speech, they would no longer partner? Something odd with comments at Breitbart, now, too. Redstate had great comments. The only one left who isn’t behind the pay to comment is Instapundit and apparently Salem no longer pays him as a result.

417 Or maybe they were threatened with being demonized. Something like that.

I'll bend forward and think of payday.

419 DOJ: We can't tell you what's in the Strategic Plan for Election Expansion in the President's Executive Order because it might confuse you. Too damn bad that it affects you even though it's the States' and Congress' purview, not the Federal Executive. Not our problem; you see, Executive Privilege!...

421 The request comes after federal officials have made around 850 arrests in the nearly 19 months since the incident – just a fraction of the 2,500 people who entered the Capitol, and the “hundreds more who committed serious crimes outside but haven’t yet been arrested.”

They just can't get around to arresting the FIB informants and instigators (e.g. Epps). Sorry. Grandma was near the building? Send a SWAT team to arrest her at 3 a.m.!

423 I have a friend that just sent me a text that she was heading out to early vote and told me that her husband had printed a cheat sheet.
I asked her why she needed a cheat seat when the Republican candidates have already been chosen in March during the primaries.
She thought that Republicans were running against each other in this election.
My head hurts.

Sadly, many so called Republicans I know, are just like your friend. Totally clueless to anything outside their little bubble. It's truly scary.
