Election Round-Up

A McLaughlin Poll puts the GOP up by 4.

An Emmerson College poll puts the GOP up by five, and also says that Biden's approval rating has collapsed, falling ten net points in a month.

Republicans now lead 46-41 on the congressional generic ballot, nationally. Last month, according to Emmerson, it was tied 45-45.

Biden's job approval was supposed 45-49 last month, or net -4. Now it's collapsed to 39-53, net -14.

"Among those who say they are 'almost certain' they will vote this November, congressional Republicans lead by ten percentage points, 51% to 41%. Among those who say they will only 'probably' vote, Democrats lead by eleven percentage points, 45% to 34%," Kimball noted.

Kimball added, "Regionally, congressional Republicans have a 12-point lead in both the Midwest and South. In the West, congressional Democrats have a 10-point lead; however, Democrats lead by just one percentage point in the Northeast."

Speaking of the Midwest, David Strom expects Republicans to win the governorships in Wisconsin (!), Minnesota (!!), and even Michigan (!!!).

Kicking Gretchen the Witch out on her narrow ass would make my night.

Another poll, this one by McLaughlin Associates, says the GOP is up by 6. Three out of the four polls in the past few days have put the lead from 4 to 6 points. I think that size of a lead is confirmed.

And, once again, a national lead in the generic congressional understates how well the Democrats are doing in the districts actually in play.

For example:

Democrats are now moving money from seats once believed "safe" which are now considered lost to protect seats which were once considered ultra-safe which are now considered threatened. Case in point: the Democrats are pulling money from a district Joe Biden won by NINE POINTS, apparently believing this seat can no longer be saved, in order to spend that money to save a seat that Joe Biden carried by THIRTEEN POINTS.

Seats Joe Biden carried by thirteen points (!!!) are now where the sandbags are being stacked. Everything downshore of those is being conceded to the Red Tsunami.

Oh: and this is happening in Oregon.

triage.jpg

Now there may, of course, be other factors besides how Democratic each district is. Perhaps the D+13 district just features a particularly strong Republican challenger.

Maybe so many people have already voted in the one district through early voting that Democrats don't think it's worth advertising there.

But... sure doesn't look good for Democrats. It looks like Democrats have decided that anything that Joe Biden carried by ten or fewer points is lost to the Red Wave.

DeSantis is up by... 11. And Rubio by 6. Per a Florida Atlantic University Poll.

The Trump/DeSantis presidential comparison is of Florida voters.

Meanwhile, Charlie Crist being a simpering clusterf**k of a metrosexual failure is causing all sorts of stresses for his beleaguered staff:

cristwifebeater.jpg

MIAMI -- The manager of Charlie Crist's Florida gubernatorial campaign was arrested in a domestic violence case a day before he resigned from the campaign, NBC News has learned.

Austin John Durrer, 43, was arrested early Tuesday on a second-degree misdemeanor assault charge following a dispute at a Cambridge, Maryland, home, according to online court records and the prosecutor in the case, Amanda Leonard, who read a probable cause affidavit to an NBC News reporter over the phone.

In a brief telephone interview with NBC News, Durrer acknowledged the arrest occurred in the dispute with the mother of his child, Jackie Whisman, with whom he lives. He said he pressed charges the following day, which NBC News confirmed via online court records. She confirmed the account and issued a joint statement with him.

"Very sadly, an incident took place this week at our home that we both regret. We are both working to drop legal charges and move forward," the statement said. "Our primary focus at this time is our daughter, our greatest joy, and we appreciate privacy and respect as we navigate this as a family."

According to the probable cause affidavit read by Leonard to NBC News, the woman had marks on her face from the dispute.

"She [the alleged victim] indicated that there had been an argument that had turned physical with the father of her child who is identified as Austin Durrer. There were signs of physical injury to her face, consistent with what she reported," Leonard, the interim state's attorney for Dorchester County, told NBC News.

Analysts say that Charlie Crist is now only 43 days from overdosing on ketamine in a seedy hotel room while wearing nothing but lube and merch for an up-and-coming K-pop boyband.

9 "Kicking Gretchen the Witch out on her narrow ass would make my night."

Per Dave in FL on the latest podcast, Whitmer is his prediction to be the Dem candidate at the top of the ticket in '24.

IF, big if, she gets knocked off - and Dave expects the cheat to deny Tudor Dixon - that would completely fuck up the Dems national aspirations for '24.

Not that I personally think they have a chance against DeSantis or Trump since the next two years will be even worse than these past two.

12 Oh, no election poll results for CT.

I thought (with Dave in FL) that CT was the sleeper state in the bunch. Now, I'm not so sure.

Had to send an email to the Levy campaign asking them to step it up on the ground work that needs to be done. It's a winnable race, but she's making too many appearances on FOX and at Mar-A-Lago and not enough on the ground in CT. Stefanowski may be able to get it done, but CT's problem is that the average person thinks that COVID under Lamont wasn't all that bad. In truth, it wasn't, esp. compared to NY, NJ, MA.

18 Remember, this is the best cycle until 2028. If the GOP gets to 55 or so, then they will very likely end up with 60+ in the Senate come '25, with either Trump or desantis in the WH.

And if these numbers are true then I have to wonder about state level candidates. The dems could very well wipe out another generation of political talent the same way that 2010 did for Obama.

Breaking news, the Dem SoS tried to change the election rules at the last minute and a court shut her down. So that particular steal has been checked.

Also remember - it's easier to stuff 200,000 ballots with just the president filled in, than rig every statewide office.

That's what's at stake here. If Gretch wins but the SoS and AG flip, there WILL be an investigation and it won't go well for those responsible.

58 In my (formerly) professional opinion - that is to say if I got to pick which side of the election I wanted to be on - I'd pick the GOP in Michigan.

Whitmer may have a small lead (though this is disputed, Dixon may already be ahead) and there's shenanigans in Wayne County (as always), but there are also two weeks left.

She's a known quantity. There's not much she can do but become even more shrill.

Dixon has been outspent 20 to 1 and under attack since July. She's been constantly mocked and declared "off limits" and the two previous GOP governors endorsed Gretch.

The Dem strategy was to 'unperson' her, leaving Whitmer to win by default. That has now failed, and Dixon is gaining strength as voters decide she's not all that dangerous, once you get to know her.

Tulsi coming to campaign for her also helps make her less scary.

I figured one of the polls that had Hobbs leading was Fox, sure enough, of RV's Hobbs holds a 1 pt advantage over Lake. Tucker is not fooled by crappy Fox poll. It wouldn't surprise me if the very serious Fox Decision Desk will call it for Hobbs before the polls close in AZ, because their polls are so reliable.

83 One other item about Michigan. Michigan is not like Illinois - Detroit is not enough to rule the state.

If you add up the "out county" votes, it can change the outcome.

Until recently, rural Michigan still had a strong Democrat presence, but that's now gone. Obama wiped it out, and Trump sealed the new alliance. When they poll Michigan, it's 500 people, which means you may not get a lot of granularity in the rural areas.

By that I mean: if the assumption is that the outstate areas are 55-45 for the GOP and it's now 70-30, polling may not pick that up, but it will show up on election night.

Whitmer is the first governor to skip the Bridge Walk. This is a BIG DEAL. Since it was completed, every governor has walked across it on Labor Day weekend in a show of unity. Dixon showed up, Whitmer did not.

Why do this? Because she was afraid of the mockery northern Michigan would give her. So she ran away and hid.

And now she's losing support and her lifesaver is...Obama.

97 This all brings up a good example of an argument I have often made in defense of gerrymandering. (Not that I am for it, but it is not some magic way of stealing votes)

Gerrymandering is a risk management tool where risk is concentrated, not eliminated. What we see now is that marginal districts are now at risk of flipping. Gerrymandering is essentially the creation of many marginal districts in order to concentrate the opposition and reduce their wins. But in a bad year, all your marginal districts flip and you are S.O.L.

So it gives you and advantage in close years, but concentrates your risk so when you do lose, you lose big. Because of this I imagine a lot of state legislatures are going to flip big. It is also why the house is more volatile than the senate since you can not gerrymander senate districts.

179 To stop inflation the FED has to increase interest to stop the over lending and draw down some of the money, and the economy has to grow to match the current money supply

To do that would mean the Feral Gov can't spend money like water on Ukraine and other profitable centers for it, and it has to surrender power by getting rid of regulations to allow the economy to grow.

Both of these are anathema to our current crony corporatist economy.

240 I'm not a McCarthy fan at all. But he just put out a plan of things Republicans plan to do if they win that addresses the concerns most voters actually say they care about. When I look at poll after poll of voters concerns I see things like inflation, crime, illegal immigration, etc.. I haven't seen impeachment anywhere on any poll. He's trying to win more than just the base.

He's a politician trying to look like the next Speaker of the House who is the anti-Pelosi. I don't have a huge problem with what he's saying now and he absolutely did not take impeachment off the table.

It is also why they love states of emergency and conspiracy theories about voter suppression....

Look I am not naive, Biden ordered DOJ tacitly to interfere in the elections and is actively hiding the memos contra judges' rulings.

If it is not close they cannot cheat at the micro level, they used micro cheating once they knew what they needed in very carefully constructed safeholds in purplish states to flip the EC.

It will not work at the House level and probably not even for the Senate.

It isn't realistic to 'throw the clay out' any more than it is to keep it on the table and trying to 'pound it into shape', expecting to make a 'perfect statue' without making a change in the composition of the material.

If there's not a change in the GOPe leadership, there's not going to be significant improvement. The incoming congress is going to need to shake up the leadership. If that means ousting people who've done nothing, let alone people who've actively worked against us, so be it.

266 To stop inflation the FED has to increase interest to stop the over lending and draw down some of the money, and the economy has to grow to match the current money supply

To do that would mean the Feral Gov can't spend money like water on Ukraine and other profitable centers for it, and it has to surrender power by getting rid of regulations to allow the economy to grow.

Both of these are anathema to our current crony corporatist economy.

Add in producing more oil, gas, and coal. Reduce energy costs and you automatically cut inflation and reduce costs of domestic production. You cut the trade deficit. You fill the tax coffers and reduce the deficit.

McCarthy stands for nothing, he's a creature of the machine and he only serves himself and his own desire for power. Trying to appeal to everyone appeals to no one.

He is. You might not like it or him but he worked with Newt to create a platform and that is what he is trying to keep people focused on. And he's got the entire Republican caucus supporting it.

Again, I'm not a fan of his but I agree with him that running on issues that a majority of people say they care about is smart politics right now. Not just the base but Independents and even some Democrats who are moveable. People want a relief from the policies of this clown administration more than anything and that's what he's offering.

I'm not conceding anything. I think we kind of agree but I am simply pushing back against the Left (especially the young and foolish) who think we need to hand that power to judges or "independent commissions."

I said I was against gerrymandering, but I do not think it is so evil we need to eliminate it even if it means we replace it with something much worse ... and you can bet that anything on offer is worse. It has been tried in several states and it always ends up worse. Usually judges.

Pretty sure that pounding the clay was the planned 5th lesson Mr. Miagi had for Daniel Larusso in his karate training.

Wax-on, Wax-off... sand the floor... paint the fence... paint the house... pound the clay.

But since Danny boy threw a fit after lesson four when he was left to paint the house while Mr. Miagi went fishing, pound the clay lesson was scrapped.

Daniel did try a pound the clay lesson as a pick-up move in Karate Kid III. Crashed and burned with it though, as Slider would say.
