At the end of the podcast last week, CBD, JJ, and I got into a small philosophical discussion regarding freedom, liberty, and the left's implacable will to attain and exercise power over us. If you will indulge me, I would like to expand on my thoughts from last week rather than bore you yet again with a post filled with numbers and percent signs. Instead, I want to tell you what I believe. I know that many don't agree with me, that is fine. But this is my core belief in America and the principles that it stands for.

The nature of the discussion was after losing the midterms, what does the Left do? One thought was that they just don't care, they have achieved power and will continue to wield it ruthlessly despite popular opposition. Another thought is that they will continue to indoctrinate our children and achieve the goal of absolute power by converting future generation into compliant Marxists.

I have mentioned in the past that I am not a very religious person. While I was raised a Christian in a devout family, I have always had doubts about God. And if the measure of faith is church attendance, I am a very poor Christian indeed. But despite this, I have been a student of history and believe that there is something in the nature of humans that is more than just psychology and learned behavior. It is something that could well be thought of a "God's Grace". There are countless examples of people throughout history who have stood tall against he forces of tyranny and refused to yield their faith and freedom, despite overwhelming pressure and physical torture.

In 1980 and 1981, Human Rights activists, Ivan Kovalev and his wife Tatiana Osipova were separately arrested and spent 5 years imprisoned in the Soviet Perm-35 prison camp, along with other political prisoners. Over the years, Ivan and Tatiana were only able to communicate through etching love messages to each other on toothbrushes. Tatiana's first reply to Ivan took over a year to make it back to him.

What would make people endure such deprivation over philosophy? Such stubborn refusal to bow to the demands of the state is not that unusual. History is filled with examples of political prisoners who win against their jailors and return to become leaders of their countries.

I believe that the founding of this country was nothing short of a Divine Miracle, because the philosophy of our Founders is rooted in a fundamental understanding of the nature of Man, and his relationship to God. The core of Jeffersonian philosophy is that Government belongs to the People, the People do not belong to the Government. It seems like such a simple concept to us now, but in the late 1700s, this was a radical departure from centuries of rule by Divine Right and Feudalism.

The most famous line from the Declaration of Independence is: "We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."

When I read those words, I can not envision a way that the Left can win their quest for power. The deck is stacked against them, and no amount of tyranny, secret police, or indoctrination will allow them to succeed. God has granted to Men the Right to Liberty. That core burning desire for freedom can not be abridged by the tyranny of Men, because it is granted by God. Even a barely religious person such as I can't deny the historical evidence that Man always rises up to throw off the yoke of oppression.

As I was considering my core beliefs, I returned to the Declaration of Independence. Many people don't read past the first few paragraphs and miss the enumeration of transgressions against the Colonists that drove them to rebellion. See if any of these resonate with you regarding our current political situation:

He has erected a Multitude of new Offices, and sent hither Swarms of Officers to harass our People, and eat out their Substance. (87,000 new armed IRS agents?)

He has affected to render the Military independent of a superior to the Civil Power. (The FBI doesn't answer to the Supreme Court?)

For quartering large Bodies of Armed Troops among us: For protecting them, by mock Trial, from Punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States. (Fake trials for Russiagate conspirators?)

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent. (Beyond just taxes, mandatory medical procedures?)

For depriving us, in many Cases, of the Benefit of Trial by Jury. (How many J6 prisoners are there now? In a district where a fair jury is impossible to find?)

He has excited domestic Insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the Inhabitants of our Frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known Rule of Warfare, is an undistinguished Destruction, of all Ages, Sexes and Conditions. (Remind you of Antifa and BLM?)

My belief is that the greatest benefit of Trump is that he ripped the masks off and showed to us how our government is really being run. The Deep State lived in the shadows for decades, but their psychotic need to rid themselves of Trump has exposed them to the People. The midterm election is one of many steps forward to take back our country, and exercise our God given Right to Liberty.

And I don't think they can stop us.

There will be no moderates left (not like there are any now) in elected positions. The state level apparatuses of the Democratic Party's elected positions will be wiped out...again, especially in purple and red states.

All that will be left will be the radicals in safe blue enclaves...again. Did the Democrat Party get less insane after 2010 or more? It's gonna be that...again.

If you've read my comments in the past, you know I disagree about elections being a step toward anything. But your core premise I do agree with.

That which can't continue won't. Our government is a fucking abomination; it's not only a disgrace to the American legacy, but a stain on the face of humanity. It must be erased, and consigned to history's graveyard, and it will be. It will take a long time before it happens. But I hope to live to see it.

I still think that the key point was the aftermath of 9/11.

You had the worst intelligence failure in the history of the United States, and I'm sure that people in the CIA, FBI, and other intelligence agencies braced themselves for the mass firings for incompetence that would surely follow.

And then no one was fired. No one. This convinced the intelligence agencies that they were bulletproof - that no matter what they did, there would be no consequences.

I agree in part. The midterms will be critically important in several localities and states. The states that aren't yet hollowed out, broken, yoked and cowed can work to defend their positions and continue to erect themselves as a bulwark against the foreign lands that were once part of this country.

That is, in my opinion, the hopeful future. Not the reclamation of the US Federal Government - it is beyond repair - but the development of areas that can go their own ways when the inevitable failure of the United States finally manifests. Such an action could trigger that failure - or breathe new life into the carcass and finally finish us off - but strong localities and a healthy dose of nullification may well be a decent defense.

It always makes me sad, frustrated, a little angry, when people are put off by church because of its attendees. Don't reject a faith because of the missteps or outright stupidity of its alleged adherents. If you are to reject it, reject it because of its claims, doctrine, or worldview.

This is not my reading of the history of mankind, in general. Certainly, some men rise up -- and are usually beaten down -- as the past couple years of the Covidiocy will attest.

I think the founding of America was a miracle, whether Divine or not, but likely an aberration (the confluence of so many courageous and brilliant men in one place at one time, when today we were lucky to apparently find but one in 2016?).

If America is lost, what little is left of the free world will be lost, and I fear its like will never be seen again (which is why we must eventually lay everything on the line to fight for it). Or to paraphrase Sir Edward Grey: The lamps are going out all over Western Civilization, and I fear we shall not see them lit again ... ever.

The left isn't looking to win the next election or indoctrination the next generation. Rather, they are trying to replace our system of governance to ensure they are always at the top of the hierarchy.

Prior to 9/11, the Minneapolis office of the FBI was bombarding FBI headquarters with desperate pleas to be able to search Zacarias Moussaoui's residence and computer, since it seemed obvious to them that there was something deeply wrong about how Moussaoui was approaching flight training in the aviation school he was attending. All requests for a search were turned down by FBI headquarters.

It was so bad that the Minneapolis office of the FBI became convinced that there was a Al Qaeda mole in the upper reaches of the FBI that was blocking their requests.

No matter. No one was fired. No one was disciplined.

The senior leadership of the FBI took careful notes from this.

64 I like the optimism. But not to be one of 'those guys' on the blog...the flip side is that nations rise and fall. Many, many Christian nations have gone by the wayside. I do believe the United States was special and was created with the guidance of God. But so was Israel. And that nation was very throughly destroyed and took almost two millennia to be recreated.

So we may be destined to fall. Or we may just be suffering the results of human free will with God's grace removed for whatever reason.

I truly hope your optimistic outlook is correct. I do think the large majority of people feel that way. I worry about our quisling "leaders" who seem to be too terrified to fight, or are bought and paid for. (The quisling McCarthy said in an interview this week impeachment of anyone in the Biden admin is off the table because Americans don't like impeachment and we need to heal.)

We are hopefully with this election in the process of electing real leaders and fighters to replace the traitors.

99 We're very closely aligned, Dave. I'm a believer in God, but I've only attended church when I was very young (Southern Baptist). My upbringing was Christian, but I have a lot of problems with the New Testament. I'm definitely more of a 1st edition kind of guy.

We also see history and the Declaration the same way. I was just recently going through the document a few weeks ago thinking many of the same things you pointed out above.

The question in my mind, which is less-and-less of a question as things progress, is whether or not the situation can be rectified without open civil war. I don't think it can. 2022 is going to give a lot of Republicans a false sense of hope and security. When 2024 rolls around, they're going to get it full in the face.

If elections are real, the next test - also ongoing - is whether they matter. The last several years have indicated that they do not, not at the national level. The deep state is in charge and elections are irrelevant. That is the premise who's test will be most important, in my opinion.

That is not an obstacle in the Parliamentary system. Make one the Party leader, and he can lead the Party from outside the House of Commons. Meanwhile, a backbencher from a safe seat resigns, and the PM runs in his stead in a quick by-election. Happens on occasion when a PM loses his personal seat in a general election.

The marxists/early communists said the Constitution was Bad because it only contained "negative rights" - things that the government may NOT do to you. There is nothing incongruous about being a Christian and having doubts and questions. If you have absolutely none, you haven't given religion any proper thought.

What helped me more than anything else was reading Aquinas and Aristotle, and I thank Edward Feser for introducing me to this subject. I'm still not well versed in it. But the existence of God can be understood rationally (as much as it is possible for a human being to understand.) In fact, I don't see how you can even begin to try to understand unless you approach God rationally, asking question after question after question after question. At some point, you will have to reach a beginning of all things, the existence of God. It is logically impossible for it to be any other way.

For liberty to work, you have to have an amenable society to support it. The Framers were careful to distinguish between ordered liberty as they called it and libertinism. That is why even though many of them were more men of reason rather than faith, they saw the need for faith to bind communities together with common objectives.

So what is key is that society enforces most of the day to day living rules such as not being a worthless bum rather than government getting involved in a major role. Government acted mainly as a conduit for aiding society rather than forming it and local governments did almost all the heavy lifting.

The nuance here is where I fall off. If "modern government" requires a large administrative state, then the common values are what those agencies say they are. If the EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers say "we control water, and 'navigable' means a puddle on the ground after a rainstorm", then lots of Americans will immediately fall in lockstep to support. (Sidebar: To defeat this ridiculous overreach, do you pass laws limiting the agency reach, or do you have to eliminate the entire agencies? If you eliminate agencies, will states step up to regulate waterways more intelligently? I say they will.)

With the opioid crisis and legalized drug addiction numbing our children's minds, and institutionalized oppression against pro-life religious expression and freedom-loving citizens out and proud, this is the time for us to fight the way Paul's contemporaries did.

Were we waiting for our Mandela, Ghandi, or Solzhenitsyn? Any one of us can do this now. It's a fight worth fighting.

Nothing will happen if there is no will. I am simply stating how previous legislative assemblies including the US colonial legislatures dealt with overweening asshole governors. Since the king was off limits, you go after the minions. One of the easiest AG positions to eliminate is the National Security Division and its assistant AG. Same for sniping out some of Wray's corrupt henchpeople.

Harder haul politically to stop government over this. Same with impeachment--don't bother impeaching Biden but go after Garland for the school board fiasco and Mayorkas for lying to Congress. The henchpeople have less insulation from personal pain than does the executive.

Essentially, a GOP legislature must be a sharpshooter and like the Continentals, only fight on favorable ground which is the tax and spending clauses. One thing that even McConnell might go for as far as grift is fund most of the federal agencies on short term omnibus bills of 60-90 days each.

Ironically, if that is the plan, they've undermined it by what they've done to the military. It's the main reason I remain fairly sanguine about our odds if/when push finally comes to shove--I don't believe the armed forces have sufficient strength in capability or morale to successfully resist a widespread popular uprising, indeed I would expect large chunks of combat arms to defect in that scenario. They would retain technical, logistical, and intelligence capabilities, but without sufficient boots on ground...

It is highly unlikely they win. It is more likely that "everybody loses", though I hope for "we win at great cost" (because light cost ain't in the picture, barring outright blatant divine intervention).

And our response, as hard as it may be to accept, must be to destroy those institutions which the left has co-opted and replace them with something new. Disney goes woke? Don't waste effort thinking we can "save" them, instead do away with them. All the major protestant denominations going left? Let them all die, Christianity will get along fine without them. Education becoming totally corrupted? Burn the entire current education system to the ground, do away with at least 3/4 of all of the universities in this country, and stop saying everyone needs to go to one.

That is the hard path we have to take, but it is the only one that has any hope of success.

On impeachment, doesn't matter. It is a civil matter and the only punishment is to forbid future office. So a vote to convict is a vote to remove from office. There is some question as to whether that refers to appointed officials as was the English practice (Charles II was removed and executed by a bill of attainder, not impeachment) or elected officials.

368 Doubting doesn't make you "not a Christian" in all cases. As a Skeptic and former non-believer, there are times in some of my days when I doubt if it all could be true.

Some of us are just wired to assess things and humbly admit that we have been given no foolproof way to know all that is true.

First of all, Doubt is the way I came to faith. I first prayed to the Lord, making it clear that I lacked belief. But I said if could show me--or increase my understanding--or strengthen my faith, we would see.

Understanding, to the extent that I have it, took *years*. And so the Lord taught me during times of doubt to rest in faith. Over the years, I became aware that by comparing my situation to scripture, that a careful examination of scripture bore up under whatever I was going through.

Scripture never promises that *I* would understand everything, and so my frustration with not being able to put everything together and "understand it all" fit with that account. But the Lord had taught me enough new skepticism, that simply reverting to a lack of faith held no better promise.

Not the reclamation of the US Federal Government - it is beyond repair - but the development of areas that can go their own ways when the inevitable failure of the United States finally manifests. Such an action could trigger that failure - or breathe new life into the carcass and finally finish us off - but strong localities and a healthy dose of nullification may well be a decent defense.

A large atheist sector of humanity--who "believe in Science"--has now maneuvered Science into a device of authority. It cannot be the same free and self-correcting discipline that its gurus, like Sagan, used to claim it was.

A cudgel must be fixed, not flexible. You can't beat people up with Science in a political sphere and then claim that Science is this extra-political transcendent force that resides outside of Man.

Does the "Mankind" that you believe in exist?
