Karine Jean-Pierre Has Nothing For You On That
Dear Karine Jean-Pierre, Sometimes, whenever I eat M&Ms, I like to hold two m&m's in between my fingers and squeeze as hard as I can until one m&m cracks. I eat the cracked one, and the one that didn't crack becomes the champion. Then I grab the other m&m, and force it to compete with the champion in this deadly game of m&m gladiators. I do this until I run out of m&m's, and when there is only one m&m left standing, I send a letter to m&m's brand with the champion m&m in it with a note attached that reads: "Please use this m&m for breeding purposes." Bit O Honey isn't real good but its super nostalgic for me. Very old fashioned candy.
The thing is, stuff like Mar's Bar, M&Ms, etc are very old as well, some of the first candies that made it big in America. They just don't feel old because of repackaging and advertising. Nobody advertises stuff like Bit O Honey or Pixie Sticks, they just are, and never have changed their packaging. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at October 10, 2022 02:37 PM (Ivdso) 425

These guys were real grizzled, somewhere in their 70's and could still work my brother and I into the ground, and we were fit. One day they asked if we wanted to try some spruce gum. You walk over to a spruce tree, pull off some of the hardened pitch, and chew it. Tastes like turpentine, full of bugs and bark, and is about as pleasant as you would expect. @280. Delaware Avenue was Delaware Avenue until around 1989 when someone realized Philly was almost alone as a major city not having a street named in honor of Columbus. September 1991, there was a protest in Philly about the change of name and it involved primarily residents of North Philadelphia and the United Indians of Delaware Valley. Delaware Avenue eventually returned as the name, at least along the southern portion, but there are sections along it still labeled Columbus Blvd.
Delaware Avenue is known for some nice waterfront lodging, dining and parks, but also for strip clubs The region has always been huge on "Indian"/Indigenous peoples names including Aramingo (street), Conshohocken (town), Lahaska (town), Kingsessing (street), Manayunk (town), Passyunk (street), Wissahickon valley and stream, Pennypack park, stream, etc. For the Italian community, there's always the Mario Lanza Blvd. in SW Philly, one of those streets like most Martin Luther King Blvds eventually become. Used to go to a local store that catered to Russian and Eastern European immigrants. They had Russian candy you could scoop up and buy per pound. It was good stuff.

That sort of thing makes me uneasy. I'm not one of the people who thinks anyone is going nuclear over Ukraine, but I could easily see the Russians doing very naughty things in cyberspace if we don't back off their shit. We're vulnerable that way, and they're good at it. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at October 10, 2022 03:17 PM (oINRc) 685
Speaking of Mrs. FJB, what is this? NYT, 10/7 Jill Biden, Rebuking ‘Extremist Republicans,’ Discusses Friend’s Abortion
The first lady said she had once helped a friend recover from an abortion before there was a constitutional right to the procedure. “Women will not let this country go backwards,” she said. Allegedly, it happened in the late 1960's & the 17 year old friend had been hospitalized for the procedure after being found mentally unfit in order to obtain it. Jilly's mom knew but, of course, cannot confirm as she passed over a decade ago. Sounds far from the truth which both he and she twist. Posted by: Lola at October 10, 2022 03:17 PM (NIYa7) 686

I think given the pool of citizens in the region there is a non-zero percent chance. I will be happy to be wrong, this is not like the Zimmerman case or Rittenhouse thing where I made a hard assertion that "x" will happen I just have a sinking feeling that whatever cosmic punishment America is suffering this jackass will get a hung jury. He will be retried and eventually convicted but I think "Brooks Lives Matter!" will rear its head. Posted by: sven at October 10, 2022 03:20 PM (Lzpvj) 693
