"Be afraid, be actually afraid." Those words from former Politico Magazine editor Garrett M. Graff captures the hyperventilation in the media this week. No it is not Vladimir Putin's threat of unleashing a nuclear war or the word that our national debt has reached a staggering $31 trillion. No, it is the news that Elon Musk may go forward with the purchase of Twitter and . . . [trigger warning] . . . free speech protections might be restored on the platform. The pearl-clutching of various media and academic figures shows how engrained the censorship culture has become in the United States. After Musk indicated that he was going forward, the Twitter stock quickly soared. The news that Musk might bring an end to Twitter's extensive censorship system had previously drawn people back to the platform. However, the media is in full panic mode that the control over speech could be loosened with Musk. Twitter employees also previously panicked at the thought that they might lose some of their control over the speech of others. NBC News reporter Ben Collins quickly raised the most immediate concern that the sudden ability to speak freely on Twitter could impact the midterm elections: "For those of you asking: Yes, I do think this site can and will change pretty dramatically if Musk gets full control over it. No, there is no immediate replacement. If it gets done early enough, based on the people he's aligned with, yes, it could actually affect midterms." Consider that for a second: the loss of control over political speech could mean a loss of control over the midterm elections. There is, of course, no concern by Collins that Twitter (and other social media companies) have long been "aligned" with Democrats and the Biden Administration.Read Turley for more histrionics about the possibility that leftwing "journalists" will no longer get to dictate what other people are allowed to say, read, or believe. He quotes one media hysteric claiming that social media monopolies actually signal boost conservatives and target progressives for censorship. He also notes:

It will not be permitted. First, they will try to defend their castle (Twitter). If that fails and the castle is captured, then the castle will need to be destroyed. They would rather end Twitter than lose control of it. If the deal actually gets completed and Musk takes over Twitter and he starts making changes the press whores and other propagandists don't like, the dominant story - inside every other story - will be about the tremendous dangers of Twitter, how Twitter is counterrevolutionary, how good people don't use Twitter anymore, how the right people use something else now, etc.
There will be a full-blown press+government assault on Twitter if it actually happens. They will make every effort to destroy it.

Twitter ruthlessly enforces the Leftist echo chamber - it's what made them so valuable that a chain of billionaires flushed so much money down it with no hope of seeing any ROI, in monetary terms, anyway.
That echo chamber means the regime can hand down the Party line with no opposition in it's media channel, and no chance of its press chimps getting confused by more than one thought at a time running through their tiny brains.

Probably 15-20% still. You can rely on about 30% of the population to 100% every time vote straight ticket Republican and 30% to vote Democrat. The rest of the country can be shifted by events and times and policy, and especially advertising and media control of the message.
15-20% is enough to give the Democrats the win most of the time under those circumstances, with 5% or so fraud on top.

The part of Musk's proposed plans for Twitter that I most look forward to is "everyone is verified." This is for many reasons, including:
1. No more bots. Hard to verify a bot, because they'll have to use a real identity to fake it
2. No more "blue check as status symbol"
3. The people who play nasty games on Twitter will have to do it in a way that is associated - by default - with their real identities.

It was 49 years ago today that I showed up for my handball PE class at WSU. There were three of us that always played together. We were about evenly matched, and it was fun. Lev and Sami. Lev was from Jerusalem. Sami's father had a farm near Damascus. We got on well.
The news that morning was somber. When we finished, Lev shook our hand and said goodbye as he was heading back home. Things were not well. I saw Sami the next day and he said goodbye as well. He too was headed home.
I never saw either one again.
I hope fate was kind to them.

Tracy Morgan was one of the most underrated cast members SNL ever had. He did a similar skit where Shaq was his son and he had to spank him for misbehaving. I still remember a line from that skit: "Your mother used to have a nice shape. Now she looks like a bag of wet clothes."

When I joined Microsoft in 05, they were getting rid most of the fun stuff. There were a few pool tables and ping pong tables. There was one cabinet video game in my building. At first, we were going out to team lunches every three weeks or so. That slowed down to maybe one every three months.
A whole lot of teams did the Friday 5pm booze cart though. That never slowed down.
I remember going to a release party that was just sad. There were about six guys standing around, not talking. They had one pint of ice cream and two bottles of booze. One guy got out his phone and played some music. I was embarrassed to be there.
