My brother and sister and a few other relatives live in Naples and aren't reporting too much difficulty. But they're not in the 'high rent' district close to the ocean.
If you're in the high rent district I have little sympathy. You know the odds, but you still play them. I almost bought coastal high rent but every time I researched a 'safe' location it got whacked within a few months.

1. This devastation is mostly within a couple miles of the coast. High cost hurricanes are high cost because they hit big cities with expensive properties on the water.
2. The inland flooding might not be as severe as you imagine. Florida is pretty flat and has lots of channels for water to reach the ocean. It'll be bad but maybe not as bad as someone who's never lived in Florida might think.

So my observation is that the MSM hypes these hurricanes to no end. The Fear Porn is off the chart every time a hurricane gets close. The politicians do it to show what great Emergency Managers they are, the news does it for for ratings and the climate change weirdos for their purposes.
That said, my heart breaks for SW Florida right now. I am over on the other side right, on a barrier island, just outside the Kennedy Space Center and it looks like a nothing burger for me.
If you own property anywhere in the coastal areas of Florida, you are usually insured out the wazoo, not that saves you from the 3% (of the properties value) hurricane deductible and whatever the FEMA flood deductible is.
But one thing I have learned about Floridians...they are some badass people (even the NYers) and will die helping you. So we will suck it up, help our brothers on the SW coast, and get thru it.

Was out for my normal 3 mile walk, most of which is along a canal bank. Saw some kids swimming in the irrigation canal, jumping off a bridge into the water. Couple of ladies walking the other way, looked indignant, like they were about to say something...
I looked at them and said 'wow, I remember back when that was fun!'... big smile on my face... they looked shocked and didn't say anything else.

When I was a lad in Ohio in 73 there was the Xenia OH tornados - something like 8 simultaneous twisters ransacking the same middle sized town. A while after that we were on a field trip to a historical site, Ft Ancient, and on the way back the bus driver who was from Xenia took us through the Nat. Guard lines and through parts of it - houses exploded and scattered, here and there one missed entirely. Wasn't the first tornado damage I saw, but this was on another level.

Oldcat, we moved to Fairborn near Xenia right after that. I was in HS marching band and two years later we matched around the town square that had been cleaned up by then but was missing many buildings. The tornado flattened that place but they came back pretty quick.

Fatalities are way down, thankfully, for several reasons, including timely warnings and preparations and evacuations due to those warnings. The damage costs are much, much higher, due to a lot more people and their living and commercial structures along the coasts than earlier times, plus inflation.
The Big Media never mentions these two factors.
