I The 80s Cafe

switzerland.jpg
Switzerland.

What an effortlessly beautiful country. Hey remember when the US was effortlessly beautiful? That was nice.

Sound on: Fear me!

Is it Friday yet?

The power of Mom.

Mike Tyson in the 80s (black trunks).

ICYMI: Cat absolutely beating the scales off a cobra. The caption says the cat is defending her kitten, which makes sense; otherwise, why wouldn't the cat just run?

Poor dog is dizzy from all the love in his heart!

Jackie Chan in the 80s: "Begone, gravity! Away from me!"

Dog Jackie Chan in the 80s.

Calgon take me away!

Robotic Beanie Babies were all the rage in the 80s!

In the 80s, everyone was caught up in the Lambada craze.

But the biggest dance craze in the 80s was breakdancing.

In the 80s, we couldn't stop fiddling with the puzzle sensation, Rubik's Pants.

Eighties movies.

Sound on:

They should have included those Kraft cheese slices in individual plastic wrapping, the sound of unpeeling a slice. I know they still have those but in the 80s we thought it was quality cheese. I mean, each slice has its own wrapper, it must be Premium Cheese.

Mothers entered the workforce in record numbers in the 80s, requiring dogs to do most of the housework:

Bears had a different parenting style in the 80s:

The 1984 Olympics had some interesting demonstration sports:

Remember when every kid had one of these in the 80s?

37 Evening.

I think it needs to be said. I'll be the only person to say it but you know it's true

The Little Mermaid. So you know why the remake is going to suck? It's not because it's uninspired and uncreative. It's not because of muddy images with zero color. It's not because the actress is a weird looking little black girl. You know why it's going to suck? Because she has no tits.

The original cartoon was okay, it was colorful and it had a couple of decent songs. It's notable for being an early example of using CGI in animation. But the reason it was any good was because the main character had great tits. You know it. I know it. We all know it. Many people might not admit it but that's the reason. Whatever else that movie had it was all about the animated titties.

No titties in the new movie. Total failure.

74 I've always surmised that at least some of the framework of our constitution and form of government was drawn from the Swiss model.

Fun fact: Even if you've lived in Switzerland for years, that doesn't guarantee citizenship. They look at a lot of different things about ones character. None of this "give us your wretched refuse" stuff, I guess. LOL. (Admittedly, this is not part of our system either)

Anyhoo, the final check on citizenship - your neighbors vote on it. The citizenry gets the final say on whether someone becomes a citizen, or not.

Seems ... Democratic, no?

Can you imagine the howls from "Democrats" here? Not to put too fine a point on it, Americans have been voting against massive illegal migration for 60 years, they don't give a fuck, nor do "Republicans".

The Swiss are a model of self governance. The group itself, gets to define itself. This concept holds true. Why should (for example) the Boy Scouts be required to accept pedophiles as Scout Masters?

Whose idea was that? Not the Boy Scouts. And .. now they are extinct, or near enough. Maybe they were on borrowed time anyway - but the leftist legal jiggery-pokery didn't help.

160 And now, because I want it to get better attention, the 10 step Feminist Hero's Journey someone linked earlier.

1 - The patriarchy is real and must be treated as such. The female protagonist is oppressed by it. This is not optional.
2 - She is already the key to a better world. She has all the skills she’ll need, inherently. She’s the Avatar, you just got to deal with it!
3 - Her biggest challenge isn’t defeating the antagonist, it’s defeating disbelief in her. Men, in particular, won’t believe she’s as amazing as she really is.
4 - She is better than any male mentor figure. There is nothing that she can be taught by a man regardless of his age, experience, or expertise. The guidance he gives is just another example of mansplaining and must be shot down hard by her. If there is a male mentor then he is the first man that must be defeated.
5 - She enters a new world that forces her to prove herself.

164 The story of Quiet Riot recording Cum on Feel the Noise is really good. Professor of Rock did it a few months ago. The singer hated the song, but they were contractually obligated to record it as part of their studio contract. Waited until the last minute. No rehearsal. The studio said record it or else. So the drummer started ripping out the opening solo, everyone got into it and they belted it out in one take.

Posted by: Cat Ass Trophy, Pennsylvania Dad, Defiant! at September 21, 2022 08:47 PM (BI+67)

165 The feminist Hero's Journey continues:

6 - She escapes the patriarchy. She now breaks the chains that held her back. Usually by confronting her true male oppressor.
7 - She is briefly overwhelmed but then bounces back. This is where she levels up her already enormous power.
8 - She defeats her male oppressor.
9 - She is now an independent woman who will never need a man. And she must continue her journey alone. Any other person in her life will hold her back. She will never love or be a wife or a mother. Those things would all hold her back.
10 - Realized self-actualization. She was always a goddess and just needed to believe how awesomely amazing she always was herself.

This was literally passed on by a Hollywood script doctor, this is what they must work with.

Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at September 21, 2022 08:48 PM (Ivdso)

166 From a previous thread.
In language, "Fuck" falls into many grammatical categories. It can be used as a verb, both transitive (John fucked Mary) and intransitive (Mary was fucked by John). It can be an active verb (Mary doesn't really give a fuck); or an adverb (Mary is really fucking interested in John); and as a noun, (Mary is a terrific fuck). It can be used as an adjective (Mary is fucking beautiful). As you see, there are very few words with the versatility of "Fuck."

The singer hated the song, but they were contractually obligated to record it as part of their studio contract. Waited until the last minute. No rehearsal. The studio said record it or else. So the drummer started ripping out the opening solo, everyone got into it and they belted it out in one take.

He's a throwback, he's a heartless killer barbarian from 2400 BC. That gives him an edge in any combat. Normal people consider hw they might get hurt or what will happen to their foe. Tyson does not care.

186 The thing I noticed about Mike Tyson when I watched his fights, in hindsight (did not follow boxing as a young man), is that he never jabbed to gauge distance or whatever. It was all combination body blows, followed by crosses and uppercuts. Super quickly. To put it bluntly, he just waded the fuck in. Scary.

190 Tyson suffered greatly once he lost D'Amato and the fired Rooney.

At that point, Don King and his merry band of crack monkeys had their hooks in him.

He didn't train at all for the Douglas fight and had the flu the day before. The fight should have been canceled but King had too much money at stake.

195 Tyson had a rock solid jaw too as well as a hard as hell head. His peek-a-boo style was perfect for his build. He was too short and gave up too much reach with most heavyweights.

Getting inside was the only option. And having a core muscle group wound like a steel cable holding up the golden gate didn't hurt at all. That's where his speed and power came from.

Our boy kitteh (less than 1 year old) played with a garter snake to near death in the laundry room the other day. Snake, for once, looked grateful when I picked it up and tossed it out the back door.

Nobody does the pomp and circumstance like the Brits. Watching some of the highlight replays, the one that got me the most was at the very end, when they were lowering the Queen's coffin into the vault at Windsor.

King Chuckles is standing there in full Admiral uniform, saluting. Then walks this other guy behind the coffin. He was the Lord Chamberlain, who is the head of the Queen's personal household.

He brings with him the "Wand of Office". Chuckles gives him room. He turns the Wand sideways, then abruptly breaks it, and tosses it on top of the Queen's coffin as it lowering.

download it from somewhere? A theme like yours with a few simple tweeks would
really make my blog stand out. Please let me know where you got your design. With thanks
