Pfizer Sued Over Fellowship Offered Only to Blacks and Hispanics, Specifically Excluding Asians and Whites

"Anti-racism" now just means "anti-white."

Pfizer is being sued for excluding whites and Asians from its prestigious "Breakthrough Fellowship," a nine-year program that includes a fully funded master's degree and guaranteed employment with the pharmaceutical giant.
The lawsuit, filed on Thursday by the medical advocacy group Do No Harm, says that the program's exclusionary criteria violate five different civil rights laws: the Civil Rights Act of 1866, which bans racial discrimination in contracting; New York City and New York State's human rights laws, which ban race discrimination in internships, training programs, and employment; Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which bans race discrimination in federally funded entities; and Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, which bans race discrimination in federally funded health care programs.

Because Pfizer accepts reimbursements from the government, the lawsuit says, "All its operations--including the fellowship--are covered by" Title VI and Section 1557. That means the company could lose federal money if it does not change its application criteria, which explicitly restrict the Breakthrough Fellowship to "Black/African American, Latino/Hispanic, and Native American" students.

I have to guess "whites or Asians," or "no statistical difference between any races."

Hispanics, and especially blacks, were least likely to accept the needle.

Hell, I saw one medical Karen during that time proposing to give the vaccine out at fried chicken restaurants, as an incentive for blacks (not kidding).

I saw another Karen doctor who was less free-market minded - he wanted to (again, NOT a joke) drive around in the 'hood shooting blacks with dart guns.

It always has. That is why the term was invented. To be non-racist, you just have to be, well, not a racist. To be anti-racist, however, you must become a racist against the culture with historical sin. You must subjugate the culture with the legacy of sin and use their subjugation to advance other cultures, make them richer, etc. It is about punishment and vengeance, not justice.

All of the clever framing and dense academic language around the topic is just so much window-dressing. It is a subtle - and now not subtle at all - transformation of the concept that the system should not be stacked against people based on their racial/ethnic/religious/sex group (e.g., that institutional racism is bad) to the concept that historical evils (real or imagined) of one group means they must be punished today for the benefit of other groups. It is directly cannibalistic and flatly racist (or sexist, or religionist, depending on which flavor is being discussed). It's contemptible and evil. All institutionalized bigotry is contemptible and evil. They can dress it up and call it its opposite, but they cannot change what it is.

If you go and look at her speeches from and since the 2018 campaign when she was elected AG of NY her biggest campaign promise was that she was going to sue Trump and be a constant pain in the ass to him. She actually used those words.

This reminds me of my most-hated term of about 10 years ago: "reverse racism." That was briefly in vogue to describe the rising anti-white racism. Someone once said it in conversation and I lost it. To call it "reverse racism" is to acknowledge - whether you mean to or not (and the people who designed the term certain meant to) - that the natural state of racism, the normal state, is white bigotry toward non-whites. Any other direction is "reversed," that is, abnormal. Non-white bigotry toward whites is unnatural and therefore worthy of comment.

It pissed me off when it was in vogue and it pisses me off now. There is no "reverse racism" or "reverse bigotry." There are just racism and bigotry.

I picked up one of those little $1.00 2-oz. bottles of Jack Daniels' Honey this weekend, for use in sweetening and cleaning my pipes. This morning I used it. It must have honey or something equally sticky in it, as I found my hands were gummy afterward. I think I'll pitch it and go back to the $1.00 vodka sample instead.

That said, I don't mind who I get for any medical service...except, one area where I admit I want to get a certain race and gender for medical service. Blood work. Asian women tend to do the most spectacular blood draws. Almost never any bruising (even on me, a blood cancer patient), no pain, no problems doing it fast and easy, etc. When I show up for my every 3 month blood draws, I'm always hoping I'll be hitting an Asian lady's chair.

I assume they are so good just b/c small fingers and exacting fine motor practice (be it from musical instruments, just straight blood draw practice, etc) makes for great blood draw skills - that, and their confidence, b/c they never worry. It's just easy for them, and a confident stick tends to be a good stick...

There seems to be a market for electric single person transportation devices. Segway is just a bad engineering solution because it's massively overengineered for what it does. There are far simpler, far less expensive solutions.

I see TONS of electric kick scooters and electric bicycles. I also see some one wheel things and some electric skateboards. Those things can be very expensive too, but a Segway is like $7,000.

1997. Bloomington. Little Five week. We had been drinking every night all week. I usually do not get hung over. On the day of the race, at the suggestion of a 'buddy' we started drinking SoCo and Dr Pepper at 10am. We were done by 3PM.

Have not drank either except by accident since. Not the last time I have been drunk, but the last time I remember the hangover.

Gremlins to me suffered because (a) I'd seen Ghostbusters just before and that was an instant classic, and (b) Gremlins didn't seem to have a single recognizable human in it. They took the characters and tropes from It's a Wonderful Life and added Alien (on a smaller scale).

The SF and fantasy fans I knew then embraced the Murray/Aykroyd/Ramis movie and quoted it incessantly, as we still do here today. Gremlins, not so much.
