Ace of Spades Pet Thread, September 10

Pet memes today courtesy of Misanthropic Humanitarian. Sometimes pets can be problematic. Bedpugs are hard to control! But how about this gang?

Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's enjoy the world of animals and leave the world of politics outside today.

* * *

My, how we come to love these animals:

Enjoy the Ace of Spades website; chess (though in the past now), library, plants, morning Rant, and especially Pet Morons and the relatively new Cafe series. Always look forward to the Pet Morons and their pet stories.

Mozart, Sarabelle and Tarabelle.

Thank you!

Lavenia

Thanks for sending in photos of your interesting crew! I think Mozart's name fits. Especially given the contrast with his sisters.

This is Sangria, a Maine Coon kitten. She's three months old. We brought her home on Wednesday and she's very busy investigating the house.

Such an adorable kitten! You must be smitten! I changed a word that I think autocucumber changed on you. If not, let us know, Lirio.

Hello: I'm a long-time lurker who finally managed to take a decent picture of our cat Rocket looking regal.

Please consider this picture for inclusion in a future column.

I read AoS everyday and enjoy your content. Thank you and keep up the great work!

Yes, that is a regal kitty in a nice garden!

This is Reagan. When she was a puppy I thought she looked like Jabba's little pet so I decided to photoshop her into a photo.

Photoshop is amazing!

Lurker, call me Max. I wasn't going to get a new dog. This little girl showed up in the street down from me. She's a keeper. I think she's about 6 month old, half malinois and half brindle pit bull. She is one third the size of my shepherds, so I named her Mouse. She's really smart and goofy at the same time. Just wanted to share.

Mouse looks like a fine dog! Close to the color of a brindle pit bull who visits us from next door.

I read daily here but rarely post as uafanct. This is my girl Dimples in one of her favorite sleeping positions on my lap. She crossed over the rainbow bridge 8/23/21. She was named after one of my Autistic students I could get to smile by telling him to show me his dimples. He loved cats and so I named her Dimples in his honor, and she was on the thread several years ago with my other cat.

She had been my next door neighbors cat, and I took her in after he passed away. She became just precious to me and I've so very many memories of her, mostly of her cracking me up. She was so full of personality, and was truly one of the smartest animals I've ever met - dog or cat, at least - almost unnerving at times. I thought it would be a nice memorial to her with the anniversary coming up of her passing, though there is not enough room to write of all of her amazing-ness and antics. I miss her every day still. Thanks so much for the thread and letting us post about our fur babies. I believe it is a great ministry and service for those of us who love animals so much.

What a great cat. She must be missed.

What a wonderful collection of pet stories today. Thank you each and everyone for sharing your pets with us.

If you would like to send pet and/or animal stories, links, etc. for the Ace of Spades Pet Thread, the address is:

Remember to include the nic by which you wish to be known when you comment at AoSHQ, or let us know if you want to remain a lurker.

Until next Saturday, have a great week!

If you start feeling nostalgic, here a link to last week's Pet Thread, the Ace of Spades Pet Thread, September 3. Some special PetMoron stories and photos there.

I closed the comments on this post so you wouldn't get banned for commenting on a week-old post, but don't try it anyway.

UPDATE:

So, is the first guess about the location of little Reagan correct?

17 I've had several cats over the years--and one dog. After 2016 when I lost my last cat, my Quaker parrot, and my English angora rabbit in one summer I decided that was it for pets (think I sent a picture of Ernie rabbit a long time ago). I finally couldn't stand it any longer and we got Sangria. This is the first purebred cat I've had, all the others were strays or rescues. The difference in socialization is striking--she even played with the grandkids yesterday, was quite happy. She will be a lot bigger than any cat I've had before!

53 Afternoon, folk! I just rose from my traditional luxurious Sat. nap, and then had to deal with a ceiling leak in my living room. (Looong story.) The pets are great, esp. Sangria, the Maine Coon kitten. I've never had a full-blooded one -- I suspect my red tabby with white, Arizona (RIP 1983-1999), had some of those genes in him. He grew to be 14 lbs., not fat, and with long silky hair.

Miss Linda has taken a couple good pics of the new Siberian kitten, Stirling's sister-to-be, Dagny Sophia. She hasn't sent 'em to me, though. Dagny is a brown tabby w/ white -- "torbie," actually, as she has a couple of tan patches on her hind legs. I liked her from the moment I saw her face in person. Her first few days she was under the weather, but now is bouncing around and eating as enthusiastically as she should at 5.5 months.

67 Lirio: I don't think is more outgoing because she's a purebred. Coming from a professional cattery, she was socialized from the moment she was born. Stray cats can be very loving, but they can also be standoffish. OTOH, I have a purebred Persian which is very anti social. He doesn't like to be picked up in the least, but he will stay in whatever room we happen to be in. The cat we got from the Humane Society to keep him company was picked up as a stray with a litter of kittens. She is an absolute clinging vine.

68 And Rocket the regal cat (but of course, aren't all cats regal? At least in their own estimation) is impressive too, as is Dimples. Longhairs are the best.

News on Stirling, the Evil Black Kitten of War and Pestilence: He is thriving over at Miss Linda's. He still remembers me and bumps me happily with head and body when I visit. He's only 6 months old tomorrow, and yet he's the size of a small adult cat already. He goes for his snip on Friday. We'll try introducing him to Dagny the following week. I hope they like each other as swiftly (ca. 1 hour) as Wolf and Chekov, both adult males, did.

Maybe one of those foldable crinkly cat tunnels would be a good investment. . . .

Cattery cats usually are pretty social (though my late Chekov was terrified of his relocation to my place and mistrustful of me at age 2.5 years). Dagny certainly is sociable. Stirling, a shelter cat who grew up with humans and his littermates, is too. Wolf the giant black I rescued from a hard outdoor life after his humans dumped him, and he was very adaptable and friendly. It sometimes depends on the cat.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at September 10, 2022 05:17 PM (c6xtn)

73 I meant to say that Chekov, a purebred Siberian, was mistrustful and terrified at the start of his life with me. He calmed down within a week or so and was always to be found where his people were.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at September 10, 2022 05:19 PM (c6xtn)

74 We wanted the purebred because of the socialization, you're right. We've had eight cats and one dog, among other pets. All of them were strays or rescues, and that meant they had problems we needed to work out. Even though my dog turned into a love he had some serious problems because of prior abuse. The cats varied, as cats will! My husband has always wanted a Maine Coon and I wanted a cat where we were the first owners! Hence Sangria.

I have seen cats going to town a couple of times as a kid - once when our cat Tiger Lily was outside with her kittens and a neighbor dog made the mistake of visiting. Momma Cats are vicious protecting the babies.

The other time was when our adult female was out and these two lapdog types ran up to her barking up a storm. She was sitting there deciding which one to take out when our fairly large male cat came rushing around from the back yard, ran up to one of the dogs and uppercut him knocking him spinning then chased both the dogs back down the block to their house.

78 In all the overwhelming stress I have a dog who needs me and loves me.
That means a lot.

79 We wanted the purebred because of the socialization, you're right.

I'll bet you'll be enormously happy with her. Dagny is my 3rd Siberian, and the 4th I've known well. All 3 of mine came from the same cattery, a woman who raises them in her house about 70 miles from here. The 4th, well, I'm guessing, but she looked like a Siberian. She came up to me in an empty parking lot one hot morning in 2003, calling for help. Ads in the paper and inquiries and local vets brought nothing, and so she became Linda's cat, the infamous and ironically-named Angelique.

After Wolf and Chekov passed, I wasn't going to get another Siberian or another kitten. Now look at me.

80 My cat is indoors but I allow him outdoor time under supervision (which he rarely needs any more because he's too damn fat to haul over the fence). But years ago, when he was skinnier, I had turned away for just a moment and then he was in a real fur ball with another cat. I rushed over to break it up. Boy was that a mistake. I got completely mauled, arms, hands, face. I looked like a victim of Zorro.

82 True no shit story. A friends cat attacked her and she had to hide in a closet until her husband got home. I'd rather fend off a dog than a mad cat.

I'm never going to predict I won't have a cat or two.

84 Bed pugs! LOL.

Beautiful pets and I am sorry about Dimples. I had a cat that looked like that. It sounded like Dimples had a great personality and I'm glad, uafanct, that you have such wonderful memories of her even though you are missing her so much.

One of my cats hates being held and when I had to evac for a fire a few years back did a number on my hand that I had to work with during the evac time. Not fun.

87 Max: 6 month old, half malinois and half brindle pit bull

That sounds like a double handful. Beautiful (but I'm prejudiced). I'd guess you're set for strong family defense and huge loyalty and affection.

Our malinois waves a paw hello. Found-on-the-road, we took her in months ago (early May? How time flies). The folks who found her had named her only "little dog." She was about a year old then. She has 'filled out' heartily and would probably not be called that now.

I have, finally, managed to get some good pix of Daisy, and I'll try to get them in to the thread next week - if I'm not completely exhausted or busy, which Milady and I both seem to be since, oh, about early May.

We inherited Daisy and whatever training, lack thereof, or mistreatment she suffered before being dumped. I see vids of raising a Malinois pup, and I wish we'd had that time with her. You're lucky to start with a 6mo old.

*throws out treats for all the pets*

Dude, the same thing happened to me last April. Prettygirl (who should be named Feistygirl) was having none of Little Dude (what I call a neighbor's cat), I tried to break it up, and they both bit me. A week later, when the first round of antibiotics wasn't working, I went to UCSF/Parnassus. They admitted me overnight and put me on a drip. Not doing that again.

Mozart, Sarabelle and Tarabelle?
Which one is Mozart?
I say, that's a joke there, son.

Excellent pet pictures of Dimples, Jake, Max, and Sangria.

92 If any of you petmorons are feeling generous, you could help me with Sasha the cat, she recently had a stroke after defending herself from an attacking dog and is now blind...at least you could take a look.
