The Big Guy: Do You Realize the Bullet from an AR-15 Travels Five Times as Fast as the Bullet From Any Other Gun? And Do You Realize The AR-15 Can "Vaporize a Body Within Seconds"?

No and no, because both of those are stupid demented lies from a man who was always a dunce who made shit up but whose brain is now rotting from the inside out and can no longer distinguish fantasy from reality.

SarahD. from Twitchy points out that these are provable lies -- but Twitter has not limited their spread, nor attached a "Misinformation" warning.

And neither will the fake news propaganda media be adding these to Biden's tally of lies, partly because they never bothered to count his lies.

And Fake Jake Tapper will not cover this story, and will certainly not add any Snarky Chyron "Humor" to the coverage like "Actually They Don't."

Bill Bolte
@circle37

And here we go with another. President Biden, "Do you realize the bullet out of an AR-15 travels 5 times as rapidly as a bullet shot out of any other gun."

III) They do it because they know it drives 2A people (who can't let a little magazine/clip comment go) nuts, and they like driving gun nuts more nuts.

Correct. It's confabulation, sometimes called "honest lies" because the speaker apparently actually believes them. The tell for confabulation is that they often involve assertions of fact that are easily refutable. Normal liars usually avoid that sort of lie.

Confabulation is a very common symptom of dementia.

160 The fast round talking point has some merit. No, not the way Biden the vegetable says.

1. Faster rounds defeat soft armor.
2. When a round hits wet, fleshy things, a large wound cavity is created. With slower rounds, the flesh expands, then snaps back into place. With faster rounds, the flesh expands so fast it tears. Most conventional self defense rounds (.38, 9mm, 10mm, .40, .45) aren't travelling fast enough for that temporary wound cavity to tear. Rifle rounds are travelling fast enough to tear.

Anti gun activists like Biden have taken these true facts and extorted them so much their talking points have become laughably stupid, just like Joe.

Natives up there were great fans of the .22 Hornet when it came out for those reasons (and getting ammo shipped in).

"The "you should stand in FRONT of the M-16 it is so soft shooting" shit started because the US Army in its infinite wisdom decided that the key to happiness was to alter the ammo recipe for "increased penetration" which is get this retarded.

You can't really have "super duper penetration" *and* yaw....

The wound channel cavitation of .223 with good bore twist is profound.

This was in the era of the Colt revolvers with alloy cylinders and a reduced load. Maybe .243 or 6MM Rem would have been a better choice and we could really be vaporizin' them.

Yep, that round was probably perfect.

So the Brits said fine, the Americans can pick the bullet 7.62 but NATO will get a standardized rifle, the FAL.

No, there was some truth to it. The original M-16s has a slow twist, which marginally stabilized the original 55 gr. bullet, which could lead to 'tumbling'. It certainly marginalized accuracy.

469 Haven't read the thread (SOP) but I think typical .223/5.56 loads run in the 2200-2700FPS range - but maybe I'm off a bit. Have the reloading components and some of the parts for an Evil Black Rifle, but still haven't built my AR.

My easygoing revolver loads for practice and informal matches run in the 600-700FPS range. I'm sure some of the more powerful big rifles like 7mm or whatever run 5 times as fast, in terms of muzzle velocity.

Where's Weasel, he'll know it all.

All of this of course is irrelevant to any public policy question. And, as always, I focus where the focus should be - a public (or portion thereof) so, so, so, so dumbed down, lazy, bigoted, incurious, and irresponsible that they can't think on any subject for themselves. Without this target audience, idiocy like this is never spewed by the cretinized public figures of the racist-authoritarian tribe.

Posted by: rhomboid at August 31, 2022 01:52 PM (OTzUX)

470 55 grain 5.56/.223 is a funny round. It does really explosive things at around 3k FPS. Lower than that and it loses that and mostly pokes holes in things. To get that velocity, you need to be using a 20" barrel, most AR-15's are 16".

It's still a rifle and still not fun to get shot with though.

I think the knock against 223 is overdone. I'm sure in 90%+ of engagements, its perfect. Its still WAY more powerful than getting shot at closer range with a 44 magnum. Nobody really complains about the takedown power of a 44 magnum.

Its just something better should have been developed that could have gone longer ranges. Something like a 6.5 Grendel "today" would be a perfect AR round.

Posted by: Blago at August 31, 2022 01:56 PM (PwNLq)

491 Guys on long range patrol and recon would carry as many magazines as they could possibly strap on and stuff into pockets, so I am sure they appreciated the lighter weight of .223 over larger rounds.
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at August 31, 2022 01:49 PM (Ivdso)

The MAC-V SOG guys would carry 600+ rounds of 5.56 (using 20 round magazines) for the CAR-15, 12 or more 40mm grenade rounds for their M-79s (highly modified), and as many hand grenades they could carry. Typically, they didn't carry a pistol. John Stryker Meyer wrote about this in his first book "Over the Fence".

The U.S. military's M-16 and its M-4 Carbine and other derivatives are derivatives of the original Armalite weapon nomenclatured the AR-15. A select-fire weapon. AR-15s nowadays should really be called semi-auto only AR-15s.

Regional. In the rust belt, many of the people settled there are Polish; in Texas, Aggies are the Polacks and on the West Coast blondes and surfers are the Polacks; in Georgia, Rednecks.

Supposedly calibers like 30-06 were designed to take down horses in a single shot as that was a real element of a battlefield at the turn of the century. The 308 was essentially another 30.06 that modern production could make equal in power. Made no sense to use it anymore, every other country had figured that out.

I have a 308 rifle, its just overkill for shooting an enemy. Id rather have more bullets and quicker followup shots.

There's an amusing old SF story called "The Gun without a Bang" where a surveyor was testing out a disintegration gun on a wild planet and the animals attack and he rays some down, and they keep attacking. He starts to realize that the animals don't realize he's killing them because theres no noise, no crying out. He's retreating back to his spaceship and steps over a log that turns out to be another predator, disintegrating a deep pit that he falls into twisting his ankle. He shoots a ramp to get out, and when he gets close to his ship he finds stray shots have destroyed his ship. When a rescue party comes he's using the gun to hammer in repairs on his wood house stockade and has a bow and arrow to teach the wildlife respect.

564 Arguably, if you have the Acme Vaporizomatic attachment, then yes, bodies get vaporized. This man. (Please read that last line with my southern drawl and rolled eyes).

566 Listing bullets that travel faster than a .223 doesn't actually debunk what he said...we need to see a list of those "common" guns that fire bullets at 650fps or less, 1/5 the speed of a .223.
even the bumble bee slow .45 is a minimum of 700fps. .380, 9mm nearly twice that 650fps number.
There is the .22cal specialty "Humming bird" round that travels about that speed, but it has the impact equivalent of a spring loaded BB gun.
About the only Rifle/long guns that would function at that low velocity would be black powder(and you'd be wise to check the bore after to be sure the bullet actually made it out)...I guess he is still considering them "Common" as the muskets of his Youth were. Even the "2 shotguns" he brags about owning have velocities 2/3 of that of a .223/5.56 he says are 500% faster.

Posted by: birddog at August 31, 2022 02:46 PM (uAI4S)

567 the more he talks the worse he polls. Keep talking

btw i've shot the .204 at 4100fps and it will destroy a squirrel at 100 yards, basically blow it up. I can only imagine the power at 16,000fps, that would be awesome.
