My SIL is some kind of goat whisperer, because her's are all house trained. They go to the back door and nudge a bell on the doorknob to be let out. I think most goats are unconscious poopers - they just let it go. Not her's.

You know, I only recently started to like it more than I did. It was bit lighter than my usual thing. One side band I was in for a wee bit had a singer who did it really good, so I learned some of the songs. I haven't played them in 20 years. 2 weeks ago I saw some reaction vid of Eyes of a stranger, and grabbed the guitar to see what i remembered, just for shits and giggles. It went good, so I moved on to revolution, I don't believe in love, and the needle lies. It was fun, so I polished them all, and had more fun with it than I did years ago. You're right though, you can just put it on and let it play and not think about it.

I'm currently reading a series where Earth somehow gets "murdered" but so far it's very unclear how or when it happens. Most of the story is a flashback to the events that lead up to its demise, but it's still not clear at all what actually happened...Or how humanity will eventually be saved. The Moon has long been carved up into smaller bits to create "planettes" (small planetoids that still have Earthlike gravity and features despite their small size).

I don't think so - he and his wife were quite the Young Stalinist Club types, that's where they met and spent a lot of time climbing the ladder. I read a bio of them in a book by a couple of defected USSR journalists about the leadership of the USSR in the 80s.

You never have one. Back in the 70s Israel had massive inflation, everything was indexed - salaries, rent, all would scale with the inflation. But still you lost ground because these measures are only approximate.

I think it will be more like Atlas Shrugged. As the confidence in the nation ebbs, people put in less, don't create as much more that family and friends don't need and drag their feet. What happens to high flyers like Amazon if people buy less stuff, even a few percent? What happens to the intricate supply chain if people call in sick, misaddress packages and the like?
These folk create disasters of planning and organization even with the willing support of everyone involved. How much worse when some unknown percent of them stop helping?

I love that movie! It really showcases his talent. It's full of continuous in-jokes; the biggest being that Our Hero is really a vicious criminal, murdering all of his relatives. I liked it quite a bit. It's main theme is that civilization might just be very cyclical on a 2 or 3 thousand year timeframe. Civilization, collapse, dark ages with a few religious organizations hanging onto the ancient knowledge. Then renaissance, civilization, and eventually collapse again.

I was thinking along those lines today, when pondering the suicide of the auto industry. There are manufacturing facilities in Tennessee and a few other southern states; after the auto companies collapse, a regional manufacturer could be set up. Probably needs to be state owned at first. The latest electronics wouldn't be doable, but one could make something equivalent to a mid 70's or early 80's level tech without too much difficulty.

I envision what I call the Community Area Network--basically city-states will host their own regional 'web' with a few public-record type sites such as Wikipedia getting mirrored, and slowly diverging from each other. The infrastructure and data to do this is already out there...one of the differences between the fall of Rome and the fall of the USA is that the gatekeepers of knowledge in the Roman era were almost entirely Roman (because imperialism) and they fucked off back to the mothership when things got hairy. That is not so much the case today, knowledge is much more decentralized.

I mentioned this in an earlier thread - today, at the Buc-ees in Florence KY, their CC reading application went off-line for about 20 minutes.
At both the 100 pumps and the 50 POS registers. Cash only was the rule.
The employees were fine but many of the customers lost their ever-loving minds. And the hiccup was only for 20 minutes or so. Societal breakdown wasn't quite in the building but it was certainly knocking on the door.
Hilarious to me. Watching the terminally unprepared trying to improvise a solution.

The counties didn't ask for it. It complicates their process as they have to file both forms separately, so each one marked as a mail in request has to be copied.
Not sure what the shenanigans are, but it stinks. Why else would they make a drastic change in the middle of an election?
