The Morning Report — 8/24/22

desantisdisinfec.jpg

Good morning, kids. The results are in from another big primary night and once again President Trump is batting 1.000 with his endorsements. He went 26-0 last night, which includes his goof Democrat primary endorsements. Last night's primaries also included the crucial state of Florida, which looms large for several reasons. Actually, it looms large for one particular reason: the leadership of its governor, Ron DeSantis, who since his taking office a few years ago after an alarmingly close race with drug-addicted felonious pervert and raging leftist (BIRM) Andrew Gillum, has elevated the Sunshine State into one of the last bastions of political, economic and societal sanity here in the nation formerly known as the United States. There is little doubt that had Gillum eked out a win, he would have inflicted on Florida what the handlers of President Sponge-Brain Shits-Pants have done and are doing to this country. Not only do Floridians see this, but it is plain as day to people everywhere. That obviously puts DeSantis in a prime position for a run at the presidency in 2024, and it certainly seems as if that is now his intention.

The new marketing and branding group behind Florida Governor Ron DeSantis purchase ad time on Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity broadcasts.  Marketing nationally, and purchasing expensive full minute ad buys targeting the Fox News audience, is confirmation DeSantis has unofficially entered the 2024 campaign race.

All doubts about DeSantis ’24 should be put to rest.  As CTH has noted since August 8th the professional political managing of Ron DeSantis for a presidential run has become increasingly clear.

The Florida governor went silent following the raid on Mar-a-Lago, sending one tweet from his private account, then remaining in a bunker for the next five days.  No doubt he agreed to stay silent at the guidance of the club managers behind his new political construct [that group almost certainly likely knew in advance of the FBI raid]. He exited the bunker with a new press secretary and national brand image launch.

That last bit is very upsetting to me, since I have generally been in favor of a DeSantis candidacy over Trump. To me, what happened at Mar-a-Lago should absolutely sweep aside all other political considerations given the nature of that unprecedented action. Had DeSantis been the first to loudly condemn what was a naked, Gestapo-like raid, it might have actually boosted his chances at being at the top of the ticket, but more importantly, given him tremendous moral authority going forward. Oh well, what might have been.

There was also another huge win, or wins, out of Florida, which is incredibly good and encouraging news given that it is a bellwether of the national mood.

Florida flipped multiple major school boards from liberal to conservative Tuesday evening, continuing a nationwide trend of parents taking back control of public schools. . .

. . . While primary elections occurred in Florida, New York, and Oklahoma Tuesday, Florida has general elections for school boards, meaning the winners will be the official members of the boards.

Many of the winning candidates have been endorsed by the 1776 Project PAC, an organization that has been instrumental in flipping school boards from liberal to conservative across the country.

“We saw massive election victories all throughout the state of Florida tonight,” 1776 Project PAC founder Ryan Girdusky told Breitbart News Tuesday. “It shows the desire of parents and residents across the country for some normalcy in our education system, and that means pushing against transgender ideology, critical race theory, critical gender ideology, and equity which destroys merit in education.”

It should be noted that DeSantis was not silent on these elections and he was blitzing the campaign trail all across the state in the run-up to these specific elections. He's been an absolute champion in fighting the brainwashing of our children in the schools, which is why we are in the predicament we are in in the first place. It's also the battlefront that will determine the future of this nation. We're not going to deprogram and de-Marxify our kids and even adults overnight. But just like the century-long "long march through the institutions," the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. And something like this is a big one.

Another anecdotal story that confirms this comes not from the miserable failures of Democrat-run failure mills but from one of the last places you'd expect.

Parents at Manhattan’s tony Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School are up in arms over the elementary school librarian — who was suspended from Twitter briefly this month for having tweeted, “Burn White Straight Male Librarianship to the Ground.”

Ingrid Conley-Abrams, 43, wrote the tweet in 2015 but was apparently suspended for it recently after the message was deemed hate speech.

One mother at the $59,000-per-year school said she has been concerned about the outspoken philosophies of Conley-Abrams — who also frequently comes into classrooms to teach, according to three mothers who spoke to The Post — for several years.

“How can I feel comfortable sending my white 9-year-old son into her library or classroom?” the mother said. “What if my son wants to be a librarian? How safe and nurtured are my kids going to be by this person?

“If a student posted that they want to burn down or shoot up a library they would be expelled,” the mother continued. “In addition she’s claiming that gender is fake and she [tweeted] that she wants to keep students from matriculating in the Ivy League. Are parents aware this is what they are paying almost $60,000 a year for?”

I'm going to try and be charitable here and pretend that I'm talking directly to this parent, since the object of the exercise is to try and win people over to our side when they are most open to actually listening and comprehending the message. Like after being left in a coma after being sucker-punched to the pavement by a no-bail criminal.

Private school or public, this is what you get for voting for Democrat-Leftists. Ironically, if you do manage to send your child to an Ivy League college, he or she will return talking and thinking exactly like the rabid freak that so appalled you in the first place. In fact, this beast wanting to exclude your child from the Ivy League might in point of fact save his or her life. Take a look around at the circumstances that led you to where you are in life. All the things that this freak rails against are the very things that led to your success. Hard work and personal responsibility. If you want to believe that you got where you were because of "white privilege," I can't help you and more than that, you shouldn't be surprised let alone complain about what this thing belched up. You vote for it, you support it. On the other hand, if you are as revolted about it as I am, then take a look at the newspapers, books and magazines you read, and the TV programs you watch and start questioning it all.

People like these outraged parents aren't going to start voting GOP just like that. But this is how revolutions, political and cultural (no pun) start.

Me too JJ. He staked out the usual GOPE turf at Crunch Time. Big red flag for me. GOPE is using RD to run a splitter strategy that results in a Niki Haley type with the nomination. I thought he was smarter than that. No way I pick him over Trump.

34 The national ad of DeSantis is not a precursor to a Presidential run, imo. He needs money and that is a pathway to get it. In order to counter all the dark PAC dollars that will be portraying Charlie Christ as a great former governor, except this time he is a D not a R, he needs cash. Last night, the laments from the wine-aunt crowd on Nikki Fried’s loss were humorous. Truly an lol moment: they now have to vote for Charlie.

This came up just after the raid, and I ask again, why the hell would the Governor's office have known about the raid in advance? The Fed's never tell any State officials what they're doing, they think that all State officials are ignoring peons and not worth talking to about anything. Florida doesn't have it's own CIA that keeps tabs on the Fed Govm't, so how would they have known?

AND, if they HAD known, what could they have done? Send State Troopers out to have a shootout with the Feds, over a raid that did have a legal warrant? (admittedly flawed) I simply do not understand the criticism of DeSantis on this; I get that people wish he would talk more about it, but then no other State Governor in the nation has said anything about it either, have they?

92 Any talk by people that DeSantis is going to run against Trump is just an attempt to sow discord between the two.

DeSantis won't challenge Trump, he is too smart of a politician to do something that dumb. He is set up to go for the nomination if Trump decides not to run, but otherwise he is going to be the VP choice.

Last night the most important bellwethers of the election were the specials in NY. NY-23 and NY-19 were supposed to be wins, but NY-19 was a close loss. These were establishment candidates who are the choices of McCarthy. Trump endorsed neither candidate, but did endorse Tenney in her primary (who did win) who will compete for the redrawn NY-23 in November.

Turn out was terrible in these specials. This shows that when Trump is involved, turn out is high, but without his involvement the base doesn't care.

109 I haven't had one in over 15 years, but Accords constantly win awards for a reason. Not only are they reliable, but they're tuned to still give a bit of fun, too. I remember a late 90s magazine comparing an Accord LX to a 3 series BMW and it was 90% of the performance in 90% of situations or something similar, and the big problem was - naturally - front vs rear wheel drive. IIRC swapping tires on the Accord made a huge difference after the test, too, which makes sense. That's how the modern Camaro punches so far above its class.

Mazdas are where the real action is, though.

Good God. I'm glad I didn't watch it, then. No doubt Wednesday sports an evil smile as the guy dies.

I expect that, if you cornered him, Burton would say he was returning to the 'original' Charles Addams worldview. The difference, however, is that while Addams' cartoons could be morbid or disturbing (see the one of Uncle Fester waving a car to pass him - he's directing them right into the path of an oncoming truck), he was never straight-up violent for its own sake.

The reason people loved the TV version was because, like The Munsters, the titular characters thought they were a regular American family and didn't believe they were monsters or misfits. The repeated Addams re-imaginings have turned them into supernatural ghouls, rather than friendly neighbors.

They still exist. I suspect they always will now. We went to see Steve Martin in Greenville last Friday. He had on stage with him a great band called Steep Canyon Rangers. I dislike McConnell a lot, but he's not dumb. He knows he won't be able to win a face to face public battle with Trump in the political sphere of the Republican Party.

He'll quietly accept Trump as the nominee publicly, and then work to undermine him as much as he can behind closed doors.

184 Would DeSantis run if Trump runs? Does he intend to directly challenge Trump? How would he handle the inevitable barbs Trump would toss at him without responding in such a way to alienate Trump's legions? To run a purely positive campaign and hope to demonstrate he was the more fit and capable executive (by implication, younger, more vital and with none of Trump's baggage) would seem to be his likely strategy.

If so, he's miscalculating. If Trump runs, the nomination is his -- barring illness. And attacking Trump directly would ruin DeSantis.

Maybe DeSantis is trying to show or impress Trump that Trump's time has come and gone, to preempt him. This would also be a mistake.

It's all up to Trump.

Final thoughts, complaining about DeSantis response to Mar-a-Lago is disingenuous. His response was fine. This is Trump's fight not his.

DeSantis won't run against Trump. Not sure how many times he has to publicly announce it until people believe it, but whatever.

People are trying to trigger Trump's ego and torpedo the relationship between him and DeSantis with all this "DeSantis is running" bullshit.

MAGA won last night, GOPe lost. The wave is defined by candidate and issue resonance with the MAGA agenda. Where MAGA in on the ballot in November it will win. Where GOPe is on the ballot it will struggle. This is not going to be a traditional wave election, it is a realignment election.

Same thing has happened in Texas; there are plenty of people who don't like current leadership, but the Texas Democrat Party no longer exists as any functioning or coherent organization.

if you've forgotten, there is only one reason that Beto got the Texas dem nomination so easily, and it is because he's the only candidate who was able to self finance his campaign. The Texas Dem party is stone cold broke - might as well not even exist. Now Florida is in the same boat.

You have to look at it as a feedback loop. Doing what you say results in enthusiasm with the base. When was the last time the GOP did what they said they were going to do? Trump created more support because he actually tried to do what he said he was going to do. Doing the "we aren't as crazy as those guys" doesn't cut it.

==========

The Tea Party was undone by two things.

The first was outright incoherence. "Cut the budget, but not my thing," is a regular thing in politics, but as a rallying cry it undermined the Tea Party before it ever got to Congress.

The second was its nebulousness. There was no centralized structure to the movement, which made picking off individual members easy for the GOPe, which quickly either turned genuine members of the movement with promises of funding for their campaigns (and other things, for sure) or knocking them out through primaries.

MAGA has some of the first problem (but no more than any other political movement at the national level), but none of the second. That's all due to Trump.

That is distressing indeed and merits very close attention. I think that the period following the MAL raid and his absurd "Top Gun" ad are rare missteps. Those cannot continue if he has higher ambitions. Like Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis is real. Real is good. If he goes fake - and the "Top Gun" ad *dripped* fake - and starts waiting for polls for responding to stuff, then he has no value as a ball-carrier. You can't march down the field if you wait for polls before deciding the route.

Moving Pushaw to "rapid response" for the campaign *might* be a mistake, but time will tell. She is one of his greatest assets.

The town was founded as a Methodist Camp Meeting way back in the 1800s. Until not so long ago, you couldn't drive on Sundays in the town. It's still a dry town and you can't go on their beach until after noon on Sundays. (Why? Because you should be in church!)

There is a vibrant Tent City community (nothing like the ones in CA) that surrounds the Great Auditorium which is a massive wood structure that hosts religious services as well as concerts. There are also hundreds of beautiful examples of Victorian architecture that rival those of Cape May except, unfortunately, they are packed very closely together. The worry has always been that if one of these homes catches fire, the whole town will be lost.

However, it is a lovely, relaxing tourist spot with great restaurants and just a short hop to more exciting nightlife if that's what you're into.

307 "That last bit is very upsetting to me, since I have generally been in favor of a DeSantis candidacy over Trump."

From now until the end of the 2024 primary season, you can be a fan of the Last Refuge/Conservative Treehouse guy, or you can be a fan of DeSantis. Not both.

Last Refuge is a Trump man period, and he rightly senses that DeSantis is a threat to Trump. DeSantis would make a much more effective President than Trump. So Last Refuge is now talking nearly as much crap about DeSantis as he does about the Democrats.

And it is crap. DeSantis has a new (state) press secretary because his remarkable old one is now working on his campaign. He's not being influenced by some new RINO svengali.

DeSantis quickly and clearly attacked the Mar-A-Lago raid. Last Refuge Guy couldn't have written a better statement himself. So now Last Refuge will just keep on writing that DeSantis hasn't defended Trump -- that is, within the last 24 hours.

With respect to DeSantis v Trump, Last Refuge is not much more reliable than the MSM. If you favor Trump, that may be cool with you. If you favor DeSantis, Last Refuge is going to get real old real fast.

Two it was killed by slander generated by the wonderfully timed shooting of a D congresswoman, which they very carefully massaged and blamed on the Tea Party as political violence and made it toxic to support. I watched it happen in real time.

That's why heavy, elderly, brash Trump is being destroyed and his business associates targeted. It's also why unarmed Americans who walked on the grass protesting a stolen election per the terms of the Constitution - and correctly per the Democrats change of rules, I might add, as multiple states have proven - on January 6th are facing years in prison for "parading."

344 Regarding Conservative Treehouse and Ron DeSantis: I have a lot of respect for Sundance as one of the few investigative reporters on our side. He gets it right almost every time. But that website has spiraled into an extreme level of MAGA/purity testing. Read it long enough and you'll come away feeling like every single elected republican is a snake / sellout of MAGA. Rand Paul isn't to be trusted. Ted Cruz can't be trusted. Only Donald Trump - the genius playing 3D chess - stands between us and the Deep State / Global Reset agenda.

I'm not dismissing this as paranoid conspiracy, because it's real. But if we had a senate full of Rand Pauls and Ted Cruz', we'd be nowhere near the calamatous shape we're in today.

With respect to DeSantis, this guy has done more to fight the left than any governor in my lifetime. He hits them in the mouth. IF (big if) your intent were to dismantle the permanent natsec/doj 4th branch, the last thing you'd do is announce those intentions prior to taking office.

DeSantis has done a great job in Florida but it's pretty likely he never would have been governor if not for Trump. Ron barely squeaked by a gay crackhead and got a big boost in his campaign once Trump endorsed him.

You see this as the terrible thing it is. And most Republicans would see someone who could use the forces at his disposal to challenge the Deep State physically and win (even if it was staged).

But he chose to whiff. So be it. The FBI and New York cabal are clearly terrified of Trump to the point they're ready to destroy American democracy. Someone would need to do a lot, and quickly, to outweigh that in my estimation.

NYU Ethan (he/him)
It's a start, but only a start. I'm currently about $100k in debt after my dad said he wouldn't continue to fund my undergraduate degree after 4 years. However, I'm double majoring in music therapy and Indigenous Culture Studies. I don't have a lot of time to work between community organizing with BLM, handing out cell phones to migrants (bienvenidos immigrantes!) and watching after my therapy dog, Mr. Trotsky. Working is not a lifestyle choice that fits into my lived experience. Work makes me feel unsafe. It's only fair that my student loans be forgiven and offered a universal basic income from the traumas I've already suffered.

Bravo, Ethan.

Same here. And it's funny to hear how Schumer doesn't know the rules like McConnell or whatever, but he got a major bill passed in 2021 increasing taxes on middle and low incomes, and just passed another one.

But Mitch is smart!

The land is basically owned by the Ocean Grove whatever it's called Association and the money for the pier was donated by a private individual. If the little weenies are upset by a cross shaped pier they can go hang out as Asbury Park which is a gay mecca. And any of the gays who are not leftists probably don't care either.

435 395 Nailed it regarding Columbia Prep parents. We have relatives with children that go there. They admitted that they thought Trump did a good job as president but they just couldn't bring themselves to vote Republican. I hate it for the kids but the parents deserve the NY city they are getting. Unfortunately, like most parents of kids there, they can afford to own properties in other places and spend very little time in NY outside the school year so they only get the "benefits" of their voting part of the year.
Posted by: madmike at August 24, 2022 09:18 AM (PTEZ/)

Less than 300,000 people voted for Eric Adams for mayor of NYC. In a city of millions, and in the wake of the worst mayor the city ever had, less than 600,000 people turned out to vote for either Adams or Sliwa. If all the registered Republicans at least got out of bed to vote for Sliwa, they'd have a different mayor right now.

Leave NYC if you can, folks, like JJS did. It is finished.

Trust me, JROD - I'm not saying that Manchin was ever a paragon of virtue here. In fact, I always knew that he would cave, as he always does, in the end, to serve his Democratic masters - and his pocketbook.

I am saying, however, that in holding out he exhibits more courage than any GOP Senate member - and all the while the GOP holds the minority, and can't do anything anyway.

Amazing.

592 That's another thing. I'm sure McGillis was a nice enough lady, and she's pretty. But she wasn't even close to hot enough for a leading lady. Especially by '80s standards. "That last bit is very upsetting to me, since I have generally been in favor of a DeSantis candidacy over Trump."

I do support DeSantis BUT that said, regardless of where Conservative Treehouse is coming from, his radio silence after the M-a-L raid is in fact troubling to me for the reasons I cite.

It is what it is. I give him tremendous credit for what he has accomplished vis a vis Florida and the culture/political war we are in. Love his spirit.

But, this is something that is worth discussing. And I think that raid will indeed boost Trump going forward. Love both guys for different reasons. Maybe they can unite on one ticket.

624 JJ. I love you man. But how many times does DeSantis have to comment on this? I found multiple articles (including DeSantis saying he would seek ways to reduce federal police interference in his state) about DeSantis and th met lago raid.

I will vote for either. And at this point I don’t think Trump is entitled to it. He was awesome. But his ego and desire to stay in good with dc kept him from doing many of the things he needed.

CTH comments on DeSantis seemed like the mirror image of never trump. Saying that his press secretary was moved because she was too noisy makes zero sense. She’s where she needs to be. In his campaign. But CTH turned it into a GOPE conspiracy.

626 JJ’s poor judgment continues to amaze me.

JJ relies on biased Liberal mainstream media propaganda to claim the Russian military is taking a historic beating in Ukraine.

Similarly here, JJ relies on the anonymous Sundance at The Conservative Treehouse to claim DeSantis did not come out immediately to condemn the FBI’s raid of President Trump’s home (FALSE, Ron DeSantis did immediately condemn the FBI raid and referred to it as the action of a “Banana Republic” and to claim Ron DeSantis has decided to fight against President Trump for the 2024 GOP Presidential nomination (rather than the more rationale and likely accurate claim DeSantis is raising his national profile to run for President if President Trump decides not to do so; AND if President Trump decides to run, to be the obvious choice to serve as President Trump’s VP — which while unconventional is allowed under the Constitution, even though both reside in Florida).

If JJ wants to be considered as more than a somewhat decent polemist; to be considered as someone offering educated, well supported opinions, he needs to expand his reading and improve his judgment.
