Surprise! Paul Pelosi, Who Almost Killed Someone When Driving Drunk and Stoned, Gets a Slap on the Wrist

There will be zero stories in the leftwing corporate propaganda media about privilege concerning Paul Pelosi.

Remember, they originally tried to bury this and cover it up. It was only public outcry over the obvious Bright-of-Day Corruption that forced the prosecutor to pretend to be an impartial dispenser of justice.

The "prosecutor" only charged Pelosi with two misdemeanors -- minor stuff, considering he wrecked two cars and nearly killed someone. And his blood had something in it with more kick than mere alcohol.

And then the prosecutor dismissed one of those charges "in the interest of justice."

And then came the slap on the wrist:

The sentence includes a jail term of five days, but not really. The presiding judge gave Pelosi credit for four days. Two of those days were "actual time served", and two were for "conduct credits". In California, there is an automatic reduction for misdemeanor sentences which cuts them in half. How are the two days calculated? Pelosi was arrested and taken to jail before midnight. Those few minutes are credited as a "day" in custody. Once he was released the next morning, he was credited with another day. The "fifth" day will be spent in an 8-hour work program. Meaning -- he will likely show up somewhere and read a book. So, other than spending a single night in a cell Pelosi will spend no time in an actual cell for nearly killing someone while he was drunk.

The rest of his sentence includes engaging in a three-month drunk driving program and one year with an ignition interlock device. He got three years probation and he must pay restitution. Raise your glass, Paul. Sweet deal.
Pelosi had no chance of prevailing at trial, and the "mystery" woman in the passenger seat of his now destroyed Porsche won't have to appear as a witness and detail what Paul drank and consumed beforehand and what she was doing when Paul "blew" through a stop sign.

I didn't know about that.

Not to disillusion you, but these things were not unknown in the justice system from the get go.

It is really a dispute resolution system rather than 'justice' because the legal process is regularized but still under political control whether local, state, or national. The only real restraint on the system is going too far and pissing off enough people to effectively reverse whatever the courts did. It happens and sometimes it takes a VERY long time--Dobbs is a case in point and so is Brown v. Board of Education.

When you get arrested for DUI you get two counts: One count of DUI and the second count is either "driving above 0.08" or (depending on the state) "refused test". If you take it to trial, you can be convicted on both counts but only are sentenced on one since it is basically two counts for the same crime. If you plea bargain, you plead guilty to one count and the other is dismissed.

Now whether "with injury" should have been misdemeanor or felony, that depends on the injury and I have not seen a description of how injured his passenger and the other driver were.
