Stelter Doubles Down On His Claim That "Journalism" Doesn't Require Fairness, and That It's "Dangerous" to Criticize the Leftwing Media (But Only the Leftwing Media)

The Potato stands much as he did at the seventh grade dance when he pooped his pants: Alone and upwind from the crowd.

Joe Concha pointed out that Tater has been making these claims for years, but especially over the last few months, as he's been arguing over CNN's airwaves that CNN's new owners at Warner Discovery, and its new major activist investor John Malone, are wrong that CNN is a leftwing "news" organization.

And he's also been making the alternative argument that the truth is itself biased, and to demand "journalist" to be non-partisan is effectively asking them to lie.

So without naming them, he's essentially been calling them Republican shills, liars, and hacks who just want to force The Truth-Telling Tater to lie to fit in with the new regime.

But The Steltz is here to tell these Rethuglikkkans: This Pugnacious Potato Don't Roll Over Like That For Nobody!

He continued that no-charm offensive against his bosses -- well, ex-bosses -- in his last show.

Curtis Houck
@CurtisHouck

We're barely five minutes into the final Reliable Sources and the arrogance and hatred for conservatives that "the truth is not neutral" with Stelter and Carl Bernstein is flowing.

They've already shown why it's being canceled.

This Sunday, I did what I usually do, and remained completely oblivious to the existence of Brian Stelter. So I didn't post a thread about his last show.

But some other people watched it, and posted clips.

He continued claiming, as he often did, that any criticism of the media constituted a kind of violence and terrorism against the media.

I mean criticism of the leftwing media, of course-- his show and most of his network attacked Fox and the few conservative journalist that exist constantly.

It's only leftwing "journalists" who must be protected against the "dangers" of criticism.

Curtis Houck
@CurtisHouck
Second segment for Brian Stelter's final show -- the risk to the lives of journalists and how dangerous it is to be one in America because of the far-right.

Ah, yes. Being a journalist in America is JUST like reporting in China, Myanmar, North Korea, and Russia!

Curtis Houck
@CurtisHouck
CNN's Brian Stelter decries outside criticism of journalism as a "poisonous cloud" that's spread throughout the country and around the world.

He adds he's "proud" to have worked at a network when they knew they had to fight and attack Trump.

He claims "we need the full spectrum of debate," but he and his Metrosexual Ethnic Renfield Oliver Darcy's main value-add for CNN was campaigning for the deplatforming of conservatives every week or two. That was their "hook" -- which conservative will we campaign to get banned from social media this week? Which Fox show will we campaign to get de-listed from advertisers? And will be successful?

Is that the "full spectrum of debate" he means -- debating about who we're going to deplatform or censor?

He had on this decrepit propagandist on to argue "We don't have to be fair."

Flashback: "You are full of sanctimony... You are one of the reasons people hate the media."

Another flashback: The Weather Channel's founder tells Stelter to shut up.

Meanwhile: God never closes a door without opening a window.

Maybe Hot Air could use a man like Brian.

Couldn't be worse than the last guy.

hotairneedshelp.jpg

We want to hear from you!

Hot Air wants to add a full-time contributor to our ranks to prepare for the 2022 midterms as well as the 2024 presidential election cycle. You'd get a chance to work with a great team and have your work widely read, with the ability to have a real impact on politics. We're looking for someone who can provide volume writing, with accurate and sharp analysis from an independent and conservative point of view.

A good candidate would have demonstrated success in this field, with a track record of publication that matches well with our approach. An established social-media following is always a plus. An ability to write respectfully for a wide-ranging audience with diverse perspectives is a must. We need passion and enthusiasm for this political moment and a driving desire to help shape the future of the country.

Obviously any of the cobloggers here would make a great lead blogger for Hot Air, if they weren't deemed too "toxic" by virtue of being Actually Conservative.

Bonus: The next one to go?

Ladies and Gents ... his statement should be etched in marble. It's human nature. For once, Stelter told you the truth.

All Stelter is telling you - the only reason the numbers count backward now and again on the blog - is because certain folks really, really like the idea of "Shut Up, I Explain".

And certain folks applaud it. Make no mistake, it's not so simple as "Shut Up, I Explained" and then the crowd approves of the Shut Up. They don't think of the Shut Up in critical terms. Shut Up was said, and a whole bunch of people saw somebody get Shut Up, and approved of the idea of somebody getting a shut up.

Reliable Sources was once a decent show. Say a quarter of a century ago or so. Back when Bernard Kalb ran the show, and to a lesser extent, Howard Kurtz's early years. There was more than one perspective on the show back then. Stelter would know that, except that like most under 40, the dude has no memory of mush of anything earlier than Obama.

Meanwhile, we know America's police, including the black ones, are in a racist conspiracy to murder black yutes. Why? Because in the last decade there were 5 questionable police killings.

PS: Most of those questionable killings weren't.

Cheney: I'm coming for all the election deniers

Arizona MAGA Senate candidate: Second look at Mitch McConnell?

and, of course: Is Ukraine a patsy in Darya Dugina's murder?, explaining that just because the Russians have identified the perpetrator, and the Ukrainians have already used several car bombs to blow up Russian officials in occupied Ukraine, doesn't mean that the Ukrainians did it.

I can't decide if AP is going to go to work for The Bulwark, or the Ukrainian Ministry of Information.

230 Mandela Effect is just false memories, which some "truth is out there" folks try to make a thing about slipping between alternate timelines and such.

I heard about a memory study I found really interesting. Loads of people will claim they remember vivid details about their environment when a large, community experienced event happened. 9/11 or the Challenger disaster for example.

So a group did a study where they had a bunch of people write down a narrative after one of these events. What they were wearing, where they were, who else was there, etc. Then they went back a few years later and had them answer the same questions again.

People got large and small details wrong. People were so convinced their memory was impeccable, they actually accused the researchers of altering their written records.

There's a lot of ongoing study of this, but it appears that when you remember something, you're actually actively re-writing that memory. The more you recall it, the more the memory gets tiny edits.

247 >> when you remember something, you're actually actively re-writing that memory

That's exactly what's going on. You remember something, then you remember the memory, and so on, where you're remembering the memory of the memory of the memory....

Also, the brain fills in all sort of details to make something make sense. This happens automatically. Even the initial memory encoding will have a lot of extrapolation and interpolation in it.

255 So the Ukranians are involved then, possibly with some aid by Western agencies?

The Russians claim that they identified the perpetrator and her car, who brought her young child with her to reduce suspicions at the checkpoints, then moved into Daryl's apartment building, and fled to Estonia after the bombing. Lots of video evidence.

The claim that the Russian government had an interest in killing either her or her father doesn't seem particularly plausible.

You stage some event, like some thug comes in an robs the professor, or something else dramatic. The idea is to create fear, intense emotion, etc, all the elements of a real crime or accident, etc.

Then you ask all the students to describe what happened, what did the suspect look like. And they all have different versions.

The energy situation in Germany is getting dire as well. There will be rationing and draconian energy usage caps. It's gonna be a cold winter.

One rule is that in workplaces where physical labor is going on, the temp can be set no higher than 15C, call that 60F. In office spaces, they may allow 68F, maybe 66F.

They may try to do this in private homes. Surprise inspection squads coming to check your thermostat.

My personal favorite "deep thought" goes something like this. From the moment a thing happens in reality, it takes a small amount of time for our perception of that thing to form. We see and observe and think milliseconds after the fact. That means reality exists ahead of our brain, ahead of our consciousness' ability to capture it.

Conclusion: We are literally flying blind in this world. We act and react in a space after events have transpired.

351 I will say this about memory: memory tied to a strong emotion seems to 'stick' more. The first time you saw your first love, a movie scene that really scared you or made you laugh hard enough that your sides hurt.

The stronger the emotion, the more the memory 'sticks'.

Memory can be trained, though. The 'memory house' method does work, where you put memories into rooms or into locations you move between. It's hard work, for me at least, training it. I used to get by on a naturally good memory, but as I get older, it's harder to access stuff.

In a statement released Monday and shared by Axios, Priola says he first became a Republican in 1990, at a time when President Ronald Reagan was "looking out for American interests, not cozying up to Russia" and working "across the aisle on immigration issues."

"I haven't changed much in 30 years, but my party has," Priola — who represents Colorado's 25th District — adds.
Elsewhere in his statement, Priola writes that the modern-day Republican Party is facing a number of "existential" crises, from a failure to distance itself from Trump to a failure to act on climate change.

I've heard smell is the strongest memory retained. Smell that smell again and an old event floods back.

I can't see that out memories are reliant on what is most efficiently stored (as far as .doc records in the brain). Do we really transcribe what we see into words, and rely on that "document" for our memory?

never heard of any such research, but I'm not expert. I guess we could look at the importance or The Written Word of God, to see , yes, words are important in certain conceptual abstractions. But personal events ... not sure why images and smells would not be a stored vibrant memory.

---
A huge body of research demonstrates that a direct assertion of fact is less convincing than an indirect, assumed, suggested assertion of fact in generating false memories.

Elizabeth Loftus showed subjects a film of a car wreck. There was no red car (for example) involved. When subjects were asked, "Was there a red car near the accident," subjects correctly answered "no." When the subjects were asked, "Where was the red car when the accident occurred," Many of them answered with the non-existent red car's location. When they were interviewed again much later, these subjects still recalled the red car.

That jacked up bullshit is just a leftover microwaved lie from the post-war days, where lying stalinist sympathizers claimed to be "neutral" while spouting a bunch of lies and garbage and getting prizes and blowjobs for their noble efforts. We need a good return to the sleazy days of rampant, partisan, ridiculous Yellow Journalism. All political news should be viewed as rampantly and proudly partisan. The fiction that any journalist can do their job impartially or nobly is one of the most damaging inheritances from the brutally stupid twentieth century.

389 The energy situation in Germany is getting dire as well.

When I was a kid in Washington state, we had an oil furnace with a single vent in the living room. The heater was turned off at night. My dad would light it in the morning before going to work, and I remember getting dressed for school standing over that vent. Ordinarily the Chinese could come to the rescue by dumping imports for Europe- but they have considerable incentive to help Russia tighten the screws if it means cracking apart their rivals in the EU.

By the same token, not aiding Russian economic warfare might convince Putin that the Chinese professions of friendship are lies, or at least flattery. Could go either way.

I think that is the Ukrainians fear, and why Russia has gone over to the defensive and is biding its time.

Posted by: The ARC of History! at August 22, 2022 06:00 PM (I2/tG)

Russia is NOT on the defensive across the front. They pick a spot, pulverize it, sweep the fragments aside and take over that area that the Ukrainians have been entrenching in for the last 8 years. Then they resupply and move to the next town, which Zelensky helpfully crams with a few thousand men who will get 50 percent casualties over the next week or so. Soon enough the last of the fortified areas will be taken and then matters may speed up considerably.

Not even remotely accurate. They do NOT believe in objective truth. They very strongly hold to what they feel to be true, but that changes constantly based on their feelings and what their NPC coding has been updated to.

Objective means external, absolute, and not subject to your feelings about it. What the left believes to day, it opposed yesterday, and will change again tomorrow. That is NOT OBJECTIVE. Truth is truth every single day no matter what changes in you.

Math is only objective in that its true. Math is a subset of truth (so is science, etc).

I think for the short term, China/Russia and a good chunk of the unaligned countries are content to make a multilateral world where the dollar doesn't have a stranglehold on commerce, since we showed everyone that we can't be trusted and that unilateral seizing of assets is a weapon that could be turned on anyone.

I think that feeling out this new state will take some time and energy and China has some internal struggles as well so whatever 'world conquest' they may have in mind will move to a back-burner.

My favorite little go-to for things like this is that there are people who will call you a liar for saying the sun rises in the east, because it actually rises a little bit south or north of east depending on where you are, but then turn around and praise someone for saying the sun rises in the west.

The fine line between Truth and Fact doesn't even matter when reality is completely jettisoned and everything is reduced to a contest of will.

Dugin's theory was that the world is more properly multi-centric, and this is what Putin follows. The drive that the West has run to centralize on Western states and dominate the rest of the world is damaging to the smaller states and needs to be resisted.
Any drive to ally with China will probably best be an arms-length agreement, and one that is heavily treatied and demarcated.
