I have never once seen a press event start on time, since I started paying attention during the Obama administration. The daily COVID briefs are the sole exception. Trump was usually 10-15 minutes late, Biden is usually 15-20 minutes late. 30 is unusual in my experience, though.

DOJ gave Trumps lawyers the stuff a few minutes before the speech. It had been sealed. They didnt' get squat the night of. DOJ can unilaterally give it over when they choose, or when the time can expire. Its usually time limited. 30 days or until indictment. That's pretty insane. First of all because they didn't actually release the warrant. Secondly because Trump had the cameras going and could easily prove it if they supposedly went for the safe and came up with nothing.

Those things are sealed because it endangers the investigation or witnesses, or sources and methods. Your notice of those things is officially delayed.
It doesn't take long to look this up on the internet. There are tons of cases, and you can even see unsealed warrants/orders/applications once the time has expired. Its not hard.

The federal judges use magistrates to deal with these things now. Magistrates are essentially employed by the Judge. They a voted on by the panel of judges in the district and if majority votes approve appointed. There are some limits on what they can do, but one of the things they can do is hear and approve warrant applications. A lot of procedure effects your constitutional rights.

So they could have delayed it longer potentially by filing and an opposition. The decision may have taken a couple of days or there may have been a reply brief etc. etc. Which would have eventually been public and would look even lamer. So the are going to give it up now.

Theoretically the Magistrate has a copy and compares what he approved earlier to what is served on Trump later. (Its file stamped when originally approved, just not served. Notice is delayed up to like 30 days or more) That is a scenario where the judicial officer is trustworthy.

Of course, routine administrative tasks are farmed out to magistrate judges, but the process was never intended for such an extraordinary circumstance.
