Every hardware and software vendor on the planet here and two galaxies over think their primary function is to disrupt your life with banners, bells, bings, boops, and buzzes that notify, warn, or terrify you of everything you already know, things you don't want to know, and things you won't survive anyhow, 24 hours a day. My default policy is STFU because there is not STFU mode. I shudder every time a new Android version comes out because it usually means a new battle of whack a mole over this crap. Windows is only slightly less annoying here. You really have to work at getting these machines to shut up but once you figure it out it is well worth the work.

Neighbor called me over yesterday to troubleshoot a dead string of can lights in a cathedral ceiling. Three cans - all out. Traced the circuit back to the panel - okay, breaker getting line power, all's well there. Back upstairs, dug into the 4-way switch set ups - after much, much fussing and testing, all switches operating properly with line side (and load) looking good. A real head scratcher. While taking a lunch break and pondering our next move, 16 yr old daughter, who is serving us lunch asks - could the bulbs be burned out? Couldn't be - what are the odds? Besides, it's a 24 ft ceiling. Major pain to get the bulbs out.

Set up ladders, extension wands. All three bulbs were burned out.

I wanted to cry. Four hours burned to replace three bulbs.

I know better than that.

Last week I finally encountered the lauded kiosks for ordering the gustatory delights offered at McDonalds. What a clusterfook. After taking a beating from others in my party for having gotten the order "all wrong", I yielded the honor for future ordering to someone, anyone, but me.

Were it not for the gKids, we'd not even have been there. It is time to open their eyes to better choices for spending dining out $$$.

Until WebAssembly or something like it is usable we're stuck with it in the browser. Increasingly JavaScript is becoming a target for compilation for other languages (like Kotlin) rather than something humans actively code in. That's probably the best short-term solution.
