Good morning and evening to all the Morons at sea! Flash! Let's go to . . . well, there really isn't a press as in Winchell's day anymore, huh?
Up early to work out, which as usual I will have to force myself into doing. Stirling the Black Kitten of War and Pestilence is here with me, of course. He gets bored overnight, locked out of my bedroom, and so when I get up he throws himself on me as if we've been separated for days. My boss will be leaving early this afternoon for a dental appointment way out in the suburbs. I hope to tiptoe out early myself. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at August 03, 2022 04:10 AM (c6xtn) 8

An advanced new cryptography scheme designed to be save even against quantum computes just got hacked using a single-core conventional PC - in an hour. (Ars Technica) Oops. Posted by: Pixy.
I partly stayed to see if that would be on the stories you commented on (the bigger part is I am processing some images and writing some text so I can publish one). This has to be one of the greatest tech stores of the year. Single core PC hacks the entire NSA/CIA/KGB/MI5/etc. encryption scheme. The only way this could have been better is if it was done by some Romanian Gypsy, high from sniffing paint, using a stolen Raspberry Pi. Oopsy indeed. It really does. When vote tally was at 50% she was getting killed in the 4 big counties. At 75 she had closed the gap in those counties while smoking Robson in the rural counties. And then at 78%, she pulls ahead by a 1.8%. The math gets really tough for Robson now. Well, unless there are boxes of ballots under the counting room tables in Maricopa or Pima counties. Last I saw on Lake was she's up a tad under 5500 votes with 86% counted.

That article on Kamala's speech patterns is meh. The most insightful comment though is that it is meant to confound communication not enhance it.
She speaks like a dummy because she is not smart. She sounds like she has nothing to say because she has nothing to say. Her speech is banal because she is banal. Buttigieg is the real purveyor of meaningless corpspeak. He's got the credentialism and McKinsey background to make it sound smarter though. Posted by: blaster at August 03, 2022 05:07 AM (Wb8Rg) 29

Kinda tech related: The wife and I are now signed up for 'virtual' healthcare. No office visits, no sitting around waiting with a bunch of sick people. In some cases a physician may actually come to our home (anyone remember the 1950's?). Everything handled over the phone with a Zoom style app. We can send close up photos of issues, and someone is on call 24/7. If prescriptions are necessary they are 'called in' to our local pharmacy. As someone who was always an 'early adopter' of technology I'm intrigued by the idea. Posted by: Divide by Zero at August 03, 2022 06:56 AM (jE276) 79

Oh that sucks.
Oh yes, they ended up getting the entire settlement to settle my tax bill. My wife took off after fraudulently emptying my 401K accounts, leaving me with the penalties and taxes. The worst part was the injury left me partially disabled and on the short list for layoffs which occurred six months later. That was a rough time. I had a kid in college that had to drop out because of all this. Posted by: pawn at August 03, 2022 07:19 AM (wsHtO) 110

Morning Horde. Week 5 of hubby NEC's sudden hearing loss in his right ear. Lost all of his high and low range of hearing in less than a week right after having the chinese lung rot. ENT is treating him with prednisone for 12 days. Doc and the audiologist are betting it's a viral infection of the inner ear and if the prednisone doesn't clear it up it's on to a MRI to check for a tumor. Please, please, please let it be a virus.

VIA. Sorry to hear you're suffering through the same thing. If this ends up being coof related the chinese have a lot to answer for when it comes to gain of function. Whether intentional or not the release of such a harmful virus into the wild is criminal. It's just not the deaths but also the side effects that may linger for a while, let alone the side effects from a quickly produced vaccine and I use that term loosely. I still worry about my now 21-year-old nephew who had myocarditis from the Moderna vaccine.

I think we do need to be careful of the terminology.
"Mail in" voting, such as it is, at least means being sent through official government entities, and postmarks. What they are often referring to these days, are just unsecured drop boxes sprinkled liberally far and wide in strategic locations. They aren't being "mailed" in any sense of the term. Posted by: Dave in Fla at August 03, 2022 07:33 AM We previously (in PA) had two reasons for mail-in voting - health reasons or being out of state on Election Day. vmom. Hasn't worked for hubby yet but he still has 6 days to go on the steroids. He also took Sudafed for a couple days since they suggested that as well, it did nothing. Right now, he cannot sleep due to the incredible amount of ambient noise in his right ear. I'm hoping that means the nerves are healing.
Posted by: neverenoughcaffeine at August 03, 2022 07:36 AM (2NHgQ) 138
And what PA Supreme Court ruled was against the "for cause" mail-in request system. You still have to request a mail-in ballot. But PA was pretty much the last state in the country to require you to give a reason.
What is ripe for fraud is mailing ballots to everyone on the voting rolls like the did in 2020. THAT was eliminated in a special election in early 2021. And also use of unmonitored drop boxes as Tater mentioned. Posted by: Dave in Fla at August 03, 2022 07:37 AM (5p7BC) 139
