The Morning Rant – Buck Shots (7/25/2022)

Insect Farming? Be Very Afraid

The left’s war on western civilization is unceasing, and along with its efforts to eradicate carbon-based energy, it is also now hell-bent on eliminating traditional food production.

This whole bug-eating thing isn’t just a novelty or a joke, the global villains in charge of the World Economic Forum really do want you to replace meat and beans with insects as a protein source.

From the World Economic Forum’s “Davos Agenda 2022.”

Five reasons why eating insects could reduce climate change [WEFORUM – 02/09/2022]

1. Edible insects can produce equivalent amounts of quality protein when compared to animals.

2. Insects require less care and upkeep than livestock.

3. We’re actually running out of protein.

4. Insects are part of a virtuous eco-cycle.

5. You can start small and work your way up.

What could possibly go wrong with industrial-scale insect farming?

As I battle invasive fire ants and Japanese beetles in my own yard, I fear the consequences if insects that were genetically modified for higher protein content at the Wuhan Institute of Insect Farming were to escape.

Kirn - bugs.JPG

It’s weird how the same Whole Foods demographic that’s so terrified of “Frankenfoods” is also pushing us to eat industrially farmed Frankenbugs. Maybe they’re working up their business plans for a chain of “Whole Insects” that will only sell sustainable, organic, locally sourced bugs.

NeverTrump And Their Gullibility For “Big If True” Anti-Trump Stories

I was about to quit reading Powerline before Steven Hayward gave John Hinderaker and Scott Johnson a “him or me” ultimatum regarding Never Trumper Paul Mirengoff and his endless “They got him now!” posts. Seriously, why do faux-conservatives like Mirengoff and the Hot Air team retain respectability in polite circles when they endlessly post accusations and delusional wishcasting scenarios that they want to be true, but consistently prove not to be true?

I can think of at least one prominent conservative website that I used to read regularly for breaking scandals involving Democrats, but I quit reading it after too many “big if true” type posts turned out not to be true. That site is derided by polite conservatives. That would be fine, I suppose, but those same polite conservatives have no issue with the MSM and Never Trumpers jumping on board all the “big if true” anti-Trump stories that fizzle out.

Speaking of Powerline, I know they catch some grief around here for occasionally being a little wobbly on a stray issue or two, but when it became evident that Trump was going to win the GOP nomination in 2016, John Hinderaker was the first “respectable” conservative I read who published a piece stating that of course he’d vote for Trump over Hillary. As a Cruz/Perry/Walker type of Republican who doubted Trump would govern conservatively, I was very much a Trump skeptic. It was brave of Hinderaker to write that column, and I believe it was an important milestone in getting the preference cascade going that allowed Trump to beat Hillary by bringing together both MAGA voters and traditional Republican voters.

Pscircling back to the Never Trumpers and their incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, this meme applies as much to them as it does to Democrats.

UK’s Conservative Party “Power Stance”

I’m no expert on British politics, but I do know that the Tories are looking to replace Boris Johnson as Prime Minister. Apparently, he is paying the political price for putting his country under house arrest for Covid, while at the same time exempting himself from the Covid sharia he imposed on others. Or something like that. No one actually seems upset about his Covid lockdowns, just that he exempted himself. He also supported Brexit, but then proceeded with a radical green agenda. I guess his philosophy was that EU bureaucrats shouldn’t be allowed to impose eco-communism on Great Britain. Only native-born Britishers like himself should be allowed to destroy the country with eco-communism.

Anyhow, to strike an assertive leadership pose, Conservative party politicians have adopted a power pose, with their legs far apart and their arms hanging by their sides. With a battle for the party leadership going on, the “power stance” is back.

Rishi Sunak Proves That The Conservative Power Stance Lives On [HuffPo UK – 7.13.2022]

Tory Power Stance - 1.JPG

The stance has been around for several years.

Why do Tories keep standing like this? [Metro – 4/30/2018]

I guess it’s part of their heritage.

Tory Power Stance - 2.JPG

Speaking of the power stance, this is a good moment to give you a little peek behind the curtains here at Ace of Spades. When the Co-Blogger Barbershop Quartet performs for Ace, he has started requesting that we stand in the Conservative Power Stance while singing. We perform much more confidently now.

Have a great Monday!

I'm now thinking all of the real and predicted shortages of energy, meat, grains, and so on are preparing us plebs for rationing of food, electricity, gasoline, medicine and medical care, you name it. Those favored by, or necessary to, the Ruling Class will get larger rations of everything, along with higher-quality rations (meat instead of bugs).

With rationing they can sort-of put us in camps without building camps. Quality of life and life expectancy will reduce as you go lower on the rations scale. Work will be required to get rations. Bottom Line: The global population and human resource-raping of Gaia will decrease.

Sneaky and frightening that they might just add this covertly and we don't know. I think I feel most betrayed by the fact that it was polluting something as delicious as cheese puffs. 255 153 Why does the left hate nitrogen all of a sudden?
Posted by: Joe XiDen at July 25, 2022 11:23 AM (3vQN0)
---------------

They hate nitrogen oxides (NO, NO2) not N2. From the usual suspects:

https://tinyurl.com/2y782wfe

Nitric oxide is a colorless, flammable gas with a slight odor. Nitrogen dioxide is a deep red-orange gas that is poisonous but not flammable. It, along with aerosols, is responsible for the reddish-brown color of smog. At high concentrations it is highly toxic, and can cause serious lung damage.

Scientists estimate that nature produces between 20 and 90 million tons of nitrogen oxides on Earth each year. Human activities add another 24 million tons of nitrogen oxides.

Both NO and NO2 are formed during high-temperature combustion, when oxygen combines with nitrogen. Emissions from cars, trucks, and fossil fuel power plants are major sources of nitrogen oxides.

338 SMH,
Malthus was effectively an idiot and is the perfect example of reasoning without evidence. In fact, according to Malthus, we would starved to death decades ago with his twaddle. Same with other scarcity eco scaremongers like Paul Erlich. Classic example of static analysis devoid of knowledge in the subject of agriculture and technology.

Malthus, himself, was not a farmer but a cleric. He had little idea of the prior farming revolution (with the enclosure act) and its ability to feed growing populations in England as a result. In the US itself, farming changed from the predominant occupation in the US with the start of the industrial era and as a result, a lot of prior cropland has become reforested since the early 1900's.

His and others money just finished building a huge cricket farm and processing plant for the pony tailed hippie that was originally growing them in a storage unit and his garage. Saw an episode over the weekend in which he outbid the others to get a seaweed protein start up with no sales yet in his portfolio, run by two women who are convinced we are killing the planet and are cruel to animals. Their prototype is seaweed bacon.

408 4. Insects are part of a virtuous eco-cycle.

This is coming from the left's inane ethos that primitive or Third world cultures are de facto better than Western civilization. They eat bugs, so it must be virtuous and better than the West!

No dumbasses, they eat bugs because they can't farm or raise livestock worth a shit.

409 Sort of on-topic

On another blog today I had a discussion with a Green Zealot about increasing CO2 causing global warming. An example of the idiocy: He claimed the current pause in surface temperature increase is because the oceans unexpectedly warmed-up instead of the lands.

Holy Idiocy! The global surface temperature is not based only on LAND surface temperature. It is based on both sea and land surface temp!

I refrained from pointing this out and simply left the discussion.

439 Malthus was like Ehrlich, stupid, closed minded, defeatist. They never saw me coming.

Biologist Paul R. Ehrlich wrote in his 1968 bestseller The Population Bomb, "The battle to feed all of humanity is over ... In the 1970s and 1980s hundreds of millions of people will starve to death in spite of any crash programs embarked upon now." Ehrlich said, "I have yet to meet anyone familiar with the situation who thinks India will be self-sufficient in food by 1971," and "India couldn't possibly feed two hundred million more people by 1980."

Borlaug's team, began its effort by importing about 450 tons of semi-dwarf seed varieties: 250 tons went to Pakistan and 200 to India. They encountered many obstacles.

In Pakistan, wheat yields nearly doubled, from 4.6 million tons in 1965 to 7.3 million tons in 1970; Pakistan was self-sufficient in wheat production by 1968. Yields were over 21 million tons by 2000. In India, yields increased from 12.3 million tons in 1965 to 20.1 million tons in 1970. By 1974, India was self-sufficient in the production of all cereals. By 2000, India was harvesting a record 76.4 million tons (2.81 billion bushels) of wheat.

---------------------
There is a common thread in eco thought that is highly akin to religion. It is rationalization from the general to the specific. So, carbon dioxide is 'bad' therefore we endorse solar despite its unreliability, horrendous environmental costs, and so on.

Most people cannot explain solar greenhouse theory based on Arrhenius in the early 1900's but adhere rigidly to beliefs in man made global warming because what Arrhenius found in a greenhouse must be applicable to the world at large. This sort of fallacy is called ironically the ecological fallacy--what is true for the individual case is true of the whole system and vice versa.

Indeed, and of course. People in the modern era are consistently mystified by the horrendous motives and outcomes of most public policy, because they lack the context to understand that the will to power which motivates our political class is the same one that made sumptuary laws normal through most of history.

In this case, it's meat. But the idea is always to have things others may not - even if that means writing laws and destroying surpluses to make it happen. Just having is never enough. It's no fun if the peasants can enjoy it, too.

Mirengoff himself used to be a partner at a white shoe big law practice in MN, another worked his way into becoming some sort of counsel for a public interest group, etc. So, effectively, since Powerline is and was free to consumers, they are not going to risk open comments affecting their dayjobs and professional reputation. Best way to view them as lagging indicators of where society is heading. Glenn himself at UT Law School faced a school investigation of a comment that he made regarding BLM protestors possibly being hurt for blocking streets. He has pulled his punches noticeably since then. His law gig pays a lot more than probably his blog generates.

Anecdata: Last week, I drove I-40 toward Barstow, and, due to an accident closing I-40 east bound, I returned via I-15 through Las Vegas. The lack of RV's on the road was quite noticeable. Yesterday, on the way home from church, went under I-40, huge interchange, multiple gas stations, etc., which usually services a lot of RV's. I counted 4, which is nothing compared to what usually is in the area.

Yes, we should drive electric cars we can't afford, powered by batteries constructed of materials that are not a available in sufficient quantity and have no recycling process in place for when they die, charged from a power grid that can't generate or transport the necessary current.

And farmers should grow crops and raise animals without any involvement of the nitrogen cycle.

And we can eat bugs.

And shutting down most of the economy while printing and distributing trillions of dollars is not responsible for killer inflation.

And teaching our children to be gay and trans is an act of love that won't put an end to our bloodlines.

Clearly, the plan is no cars, no food, grab the farmers' land, no children, no future, too many people alive now, fuck you, drop dead. All the flowery talk of justice and sustainability is camouflage to delay full realization of the actual objective.

Freeze dried is a process used to remove the moist moisture (IIRC, low pressure, low temp) to sublime the moist moisture away. It requires a pretty spendy apparatus to do so, and you mostly find this with commercial storage food processors, doing ground beef, is the most popular I have seen.

If prepping long-term storage meat, canning is probably easiest and most accessible by cost.

564 When I searched for cookbooks, I found disturbingly quite a few.

This is but just one: The Eat a Bug Cookbook

From the website:

Now you can impress, enlighten, and entertain your family and friends with Gordon’s one-of-a-kind recipes. Spice things up at the next neighborhood potluck with a big bowl of Orthopteran Orzo—pasta salad with a cricket-y twist. Conquer your fear of spiders with a Deep-Fried Tarantula. And for dessert, why not try a White Chocolate and Wax Worm Cookie? (They’re so tasty, the kids will be begging for seconds!)

Today, there are more reasons than ever before to explore entomophagy (that’s bug-eating, by the way). It’s an environmentally-friendly source of protein: Research shows that bug farming reduces greenhouse gas emissions and is exponentially more water-efficient than farming for beef, chicken, or pigs. Mail-order bugs are readily available online—but if you’re more of a DIY-type, The Eat-A-Bug Cookbook includes plenty of tips for sustainably harvesting or raising your own.

This has to be a joke right?

I laugh at the local libs about this.
Every Fall, over 300,000 people go into the woods of Washington State, all armed, and it is extremely rare for a shooting to occur, usually one or two a year. Most are self inflicted accidents.

577 Time Bandits: "Laser, 8 o clock, day one" is one of my favorite lines.

It is "Let there be light" turned on its head. Tolkien villains corrupt without creating, to try to fill the desire to create. Here Evil doesn't know that he is describing what the creator has done, framed in an alien way, as if it was his own plans.

Time Bandits Achilles heel was its unevenness. When it was good, it was brilliant. One of my favorite lines was the Supreme Being overseeing the cleanup: “Be careful, that’s concentrated evil.”

If you can find someone with a protein deficiency without either a) a really rare metabolic condition or b) an insufficiency of calories, quick write it up for the medical journals you (yes, you) are about to become famous.

Given the globalists tendency to telegraph their punches, this seems to indicate they're planning on starving us into submission. Plan accordingly.

(My personal recommendation: stockpile clean grain in plastic buckets. You can live on grains and surprisingly few vegetables for a looong time, as long as you are getting enough calories)

597 I always love it when an American blog references the great British comedy show of the 1980's, Blackadder.

A few years ago friends visited us in NZ from the USA and their three teenagers had never seen the show so it was funny to hear them saying, "That's Mr Bean" (Rowan Atkinson) and "That's House" (Laurie) - but still enjoying it.

The episode I showed them was not the one pictured here (Sense and Senilty - which is oh so appropriate now) but the first one of the third series, dealing with .... politics.

It's become a family tradition that after each NZ and US Presidential election we sit down to watch "Dish and Dishonesty", which I swear to God has become a more accurate take on politics with every passing year. Don't believe me? Check out the scene of Blackadder entering Baldrick's MP Candidate application.
