Breaking/Related: Steve Bannon has been found guilty by a DC court-- by the same jury pool that let Hillary Clinton's lawyer off, the jury forewoman deciding that lying to the FBI wasn't really a crime -- for ignoring two congressional subpoenas. Two counts of contempt of Congress which, you know: find me guilty right now, bitches.

Each contempt of Congress count is punishable by 30 days to one year behind bars, as well as a fine of $100 to $100,000.

They're misdemeanor counts but Republicans can expect felony-level penalties.

I think the normal process, for a non-Republican, would be that he remain free on bail as he appeals. But he's a Republican, so....

The Federalist's Tristan Justice watched AllahPundit's favorite cable news scripted "reality" show so you don't have to:

The Select Committee on Jan. 6 introduced new footage of the Capitol riot Thursday night featuring Missouri Republican Sen. Josh Hawley fleeing the complex as members of Congress were evacuated from the chambers.
"Earlier that afternoon before the joint session started, he walked across the east front of the Capitol," said Rep. Elaine Luria, D-Va., who played the clip after airing an image of the senator cheering demonstrators hours before the riot. "As you can see in this photo, he raised his fist in solidarity with the protesters."
Luria proceeded to show Hawley running out of the Capitol as peaceful protests turned into violent trespassing and shut down congressional proceedings. The committee played the clip twice, once in real time, and then in slow motion to drive home the point, as if an active 42-year-old jogging down a hallway or a flight of steps was a rare sight (the average age in the Senate is 64).
The committee sought to smear Hawley as a coward who was complicit in the violence by raising his fist to the same crowd that would later obstruct the joint session of Congress. The image of the senator's fist, however, which Hawley promoted on a campaign mug Friday morning, was captured hours before rioters would breach the first barriers of the Capitol.

I'm no Hawley fan, this is complete bs. He never gave a "supportive fist pump to rioters." He gave a fist pump to protestors. There is no proof he knew, or incited them, to riot.

If Democrats were held responsible for the BLM and antifa rioters they encouraged or actually funded in 2020 and 2021, how many of them would remain free from imprisonment?

In any event, he was showing a solidarity fist to protesters, not rioters. This is early in the day.

As many noted, Alexandria Donkey Chompers threw a solidarity fist to the Insurrectionists blocking the street in front of the Supreme Court, and no one is trying to link her to Ruth Sent Us.

The committee's deceptive footage of the senator is a telling reveal of the panel's true intentions. Initially established in pursuit of a third impeachment of President Donald Trump, the probe has widened its targets as the former Republican president is no longer the only conceivable contender to be the nominee in 2024. The committee weaponized to persecute political opponents ahead of the upcoming elections has now taken the opportunity to pivot its smears toward other potential White House rivals, Hawley included.

The other thing the kangaroo court is trying to claim is a big deal is that Donald Trump, who we already knew intended to press his claims about a stolen election in court as far as he could, did not want to say the "election was over" and edited that part out of a statement condemning the riots.

In the outtake, Trump at one point cuts himself off to say that he does not want to say "the election's over" while reading a script from a teleprompter.

"'But this election is now over. Congress has certified the results' -- I don't want to say the election's over, I just want to say Congress has certified the results without saying the election's over, OK?" Trump said.

Someone with cases in front of judges does not give judges easy excuses to stamp the cases as "moot" and reject his complaint.

Going by the numbers of the 2016 election, compared to the results of the 2012 election, Trump was no more popular than Romney. But Hillary's vote total, in key states flipped by Trump, decreased quite a bit from Obama's 2012 vote total (which was already much, much lower than his 2008 vote total).

So Trump won in 2016 not because he had popular support, at least not any more than Romney had, but because Democrat voters rejected Hillary and voted third party in key states like WI, MI and PA. Which had been long-time Democrat strongholds.

That I don't know. As I said above, the whole thing makes no sense to me. Objecting to a subpoena is not any sort of crime whatsoever. It happens every day. Only if a court later formally orders compliance is the recipient required to do anything. But in that case it's the court order that has force of law. And even in that case, while the court could hold you in contempt for failing to comply, I don't think that's any kind of actual crime. I'm not aware of any super-special, self-enforcing subpoena that failure to obey is an actual crime. But I have no experience with Congressional subpoenas.

Absolutely. A true test of intellect. The rules are simple, easily learned in a few minutes. How you use them is the trick. Othello is about the best test I've found.

It tells you what horsepower somebody has under the hood. Not their memory of facts. Or their exposure to key factoids that certain folks in the DC to Boston corridor seem to hold in high regard ... you know, a virtue signal.

Also geometry, and algebra. Especially if they can apply it, say - to a fence and a builders level. Or, at the minimum, a couple tape measures and a six eight ten triangle.

You don't know what that means.

Honestly... for all the hysterics from the Left, the official GOP has to be the group that's the most upset about RvW being overturned.

For one thing, they just lost their easiest and highest-amplitude issue. No more rakeoff from that scam anymore.

Secondly, for a large subset of them ranging from statehouses and Governor's mansions to the federal Congress and Presidential aspirants, they have a serious problem four months from now. They have to figure out how to furiously backpedal on forty years of empty campaigning, and (even worse) how to reverse trigger laws in many of the States that have them.

None of these clowns saw this shit coming. They're staying quiet on it for now (like everything else) - but that bill comes due on Nov. 4, and their cheapest virtue signal is about to become very expensive for them. I guarantee the RNC is shitting bricks over this.

It's amusing to hear this sort of thing, after what Trump achieved. Beyond that, he daily faced a field littered with traps and mines and hate unlike any figure in modern history. If anything, he was overly cautious and ethical about how he conducted his presidency and how he dealt with the Left, but given what he faced that may have been the least dangerous strategy and, in his mind, the safest for the country he cared about. That doesn't equate to stupidity.

Yes, absolutely. I watched TV. You could see, in real time, the election getting rigged.

So what did Trump do ? Nothing, for two weeks. I guess he was going to court, with Rudy. That's not how you fight against a rigged election. But it's how you assume you win, if you're Trump. That's a cat that just assumes the system works.

He was wrong.

He had two options. Assume (Hope) the system works, or initiate a full scale coup d'etat and the inevitable Civil War that would follow.

I still am not 100% convinced he chose correctly, but with what he surely knew he was facing, those were his options.

476 Trump is incredibly smart. Watch him run those public meetings he had together with people from various backgrounds on certain issues. And they weren't all Trump voters. Not like the Democrats who will only get in a room with plants. He did a few of them. Aired live and unscripted.

Go watch the tapes. He is sharp as hell. He listens to and digests information and perspectives very, very quickly. His wit and humor alone reveal a high intellect but those meetings show it all.
