Once You Eliminate The Impossible, Whatever Remains, No Matter How Improbable, Must Be The ONT

Welcome, 'rons and 'ettes! It's the one, the only, Thursday night ONT! I'm your host, Weirddave! And I don't mean to brag, but...

The Happy Hooker

He's obviously using the wrong worm. Apparently, this was the Republican mayor of Hudson, Oh. He has since resigned from his position. The story refers to another incident when he referred to a book that was being used in Hudson schools as “child porn”. Now, I would not be surprised if educators were using graphic books depicting pornographic scenes with children, Ace has documented some of them here, but in this case it was a creative writing course for high school seniors, and the book in question was “642 Things to Write About”, which gave suggested writing topics. One of them was “Write a sex scene you wouldn't show your mom” and then “Rewrite the scene to one you would show your mom”. Questionable, perhaps, but high school seniors are 17-18 years old, and that is hardly “child porn”. Maybe the mayor is the one with sex issues.

Lets Talk About The Mall Shooting In Indiana

As you all know, earlier this week a 22 year old man, Elisjsha Dicken, became the much heralded “good guy with a gun” when he shot and killed a 20 year old who was attempting to instigate a mass shooting event. Sadly, the shooter (whom I will not name) did manage to kill three people before Dicken took him down. Dicken, who was with his girlfriend at the time, heard the first shots and reacted. In the span of 15 seconds he:

Shoved his Girlfriend under cover.
Drew his weapon
Motioned fleeing patrons to get behind him
Steadied himself against a post for cover/brace
Hit with 8/10 shots with his 9mm handgun (reports say Glock, but I dunno, everything's a “Glock” to the idiots in the MSM)
At a distance of 40 yards!

All of this while dealing with the massive adrenaline dump that anyone finding themselves in a gunfight must deal with. Eight out of ten hits. AT 40 YARDS! The range I practice at here in East Texas is only 25 yards long. That's not good shooting, not good shooting at all. Folks, that's God-level shooting. He must be the reincarnation of Davy Crockett or something. Incredible. A true hero.

Any Pilots In The Crowd?

Speaking of difficult feats, check this out:

Not only did he land on a curve, but watch him avoid the power lines as well. And this was a novice pilot. I am not a pilot, but that's impressive as hell from where I'm sitting.

Living In America

People Shared the Things They Love Most About the USA and the Answers Caught Us by Surprise

Yes, it's a clickbait article, but it's always fun seeing what people from other countries say about us. Sometimes they're silly, sometimes they're trite, but sometimes they can remind us of how blessed we are to live in the USA.

A Perspective From The UK

The ‘adults in the room’ are the scariest people in politics

I don't know diddly about British politics, although the Prime Minister's Questions can be fun to watch, I'd love to see Jittering Joe try and answer questions from the opposition in a forum like that. Most of the GOPe would roll over, but there are a few who would light him up good. I also can't tell what the politics of the author are, the kind of feel left wing/Labour-ish, but he's (sorta) defending Boris. What is striking is this:

No, the anti-Boris fever that infects large swathes of the chattering class is not about anything as tangible as policy, or history, or even reality. Rather, it expresses a deeper, more visceral disgust within the elites for what Boris is seen to represent – that is, ordinary people’s desire to shake up the technocratic establishment and to secure a little more democratic clout for themselves.

One of the most striking things about the Borisphobia that has spread like a malady in elite circles is its ahistorical nature. To say ‘Boris is the worst PM ever’ is to declare, sans shame, that you have little concern for history. That you are so swept up in the now, in super recent political events, that you have lost sight of the fact that the past exists and that it is pock-marked with bad rule and objectionable policy. This hyper-presentism of the Boris-loathers is not born of ignorance – many of these people are very well educated. Rather, it springs from the combination of narcissism and irrationalism that motors their dread of Boris, and of the little people who voted for him. Convinced they have a God-given right to shape politics, and concerned that this right has been upended by recent democratic developments, these people end up in an existential freakout that views everything that is happening right this minute in the most intense fashion imaginable, as the Worst Thing Ever, as the be-all and end-all. Their anti-Boris fury is more about what they feel they have lost than it is about Boris himself.

That's a good description of the Never Trump insanity over here. What with all of the popular unrest going on in the West these days, one might wonder if it is a universal truth. If so, that's a very good sign.

Feel Good Story Of The Day

JJ Watt Offers To Cover Funeral Expenses For Woman Struggling After Grandfather’s Death

A woman advertised online, selling some JJ Watt merch (Watt is an all-star defensive end in the NFL, and one of the true good guys in the league) to cover the cost of her grandfather's funeral. Watt saw the add and contacted the woman, offering to cover the funeral costs for her. Nice gesture.

Deep Dive

Facing the Beast

Dr. Naomi Wolf lays out the case that everything about Covid, from the virus, to the vaccines, is a Chinese plot to bring the West to its knees. It's too long and convoluted to excerpt here, but by her reckoning, we're in a war that we don't even recognize is happening. Read it if you've got a few spare moments, then draw your own conclusions.

Speaking Of Conspiracy Theories...

Weapons12.jpg

They're remarkably similar. Almost as if they were issued from the same stores. And while you can certainly spend more on your AR, that's still a pretty Gucci build. EOTECH sight? They're not cheap, and both shooters were unemployed losers. That's what, somewhere in the 4-7 K range for that kit? Where did they get the money?

Stories The Media Is No Longer Following

10-Year-Old Rape Victim's Mom Is in Domestic Relationship With Child's Alleged Illegal Alien Rapist

Well, not all media. Townhall, here and RCP, below are covering these stories, but the MSM?

Not only is the mother publicly standing by her boyfriend, she is apparently photographed posing next to her child's alleged rapist—seen smiling in a picture while the man with a striking resemblance to Fuentes's booking photo flashes a toothy grin. His arm appears to be wrapped around her.
Who exactly is this mystery woman seemingly scrambling to cover up her daughter's sexual abuse?

The MSM was all over this story when it broke, touting the pregnant 10 year old as proof of the horrors that overturning Roe would unleash (10 years old. Gives me crawly skin just saying that. Bring on The Punisher), but when the details started to come out, namely that this woman, here illegally, was allowing her illegal alien boyfriend to molest her daughter, they dropped it like a hot rock. TH has a good summary at the link.

Willful Blindness: Feds Ignore Illegal Alien ID Theft Plaguing Americans as U.S. Coffers Fill

This identity-related crime is providing a windfall for the U.S. government. A 2017 study from the conservative Federation for American Immigration Reform found that the federal government collects about $22 billion annually in tax receipts from illegal aliens, with the bulk going toward Social Security ($12.6 billion) and Medicare ($5.9 billion) – programs from which noncitizens are ineligible to receive benefits. FAIR estimated that illegal migrants also paid $3.3 billion in federal income tax – a smaller proportion primarily due to illegal aliens’ lower wage levels – and another $1 billion in state income taxes.

In other words, the fraud has the effect of bolstering financially shaky federal programs. In one of the agency’s rare direct statements on the issue, Social Security Administration Chief Actuary Stephen Goss told CNN in 2014 that without "undocumented immigrants paying into the system, Social Security would have entered persistent shortfall of tax revenue to cover payouts starting in 2009." Leading progressive Rep. Pramila Jayapal echoed this observation in 2018, arguing that a "complication of [then-president] Trump’s plans to limit immigration is the effect to our Social Security Earnings Suspense File – money that keeps our Social Security system afloat," including money provided by "undocumented immigrants."

In both cases, when the story involves one of the left's sacred cows – in this case problems caused by open borders – the media becomes deaf, dumb and blind. Not all media, as evidenced by the links, but how many people read RCP or TH? This stuff should be being covered by CNN and ABC.

Ok, let's do. And then we talk about this, because I haz questions:

@crohkor Jul 19

I am in no way detracting from this kids heroic actions. However, when you grow up in the country, shooting all the time. 75-100 yards is an average pistol range. Shooting at soda cans. Anything inside that is practically cheating. A human sized target at 40 yrds is toast.

65 As a tie-in with the child grooming story...

I was in a Target this afternoon (don't judge, Mom still likes them for some reason), and the children's books section had an item titled "Bye Bye Binary!" It features a cartoon baby proudly rejecting gender norms, saying he can be a princess or a heartbreaker or neither, and his parents telling others he's got plenty of time to decide what his gender is.

I read it all through because I was convinced it had to be a parody, but nope; evidently was written in all seriousness. Adding author Eric Geron and illustrator Charlene Chua to my list for the Burning Times.

103 Kudos to the marksman who took out the mass shooter. Most people would not be able to shoot with that degree of precision with a handgun in a chaotic indoor mass shooter event and not hit one bystander. He also apparently hit with his first shot and quite a few subsequent ones.

For extraneous reasons, I've followed Armed Citizen and before that Clayton Cramer's data. Add in Mas Ayoob's stories of such events, Tom Givens's data, and the Tactical Professor, Claude Werner, and when you consider all of those sources, the guy clearly passed the test that many, even trained professionals, would have failed.

Transmission of the virus appears to be through vaccine shedding. The vaccine in question is the oral polio vaccine (OPV), an attenuated (or "live virus") vaccine given to people outside of the US. People who are given active vaccines have the tendency to shed the virus and infect others.

Parts of the world where OPV is administered are mainly developing countries, such as Afghanistan and Pakistan, and ones in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

165 Headed north out of Ogden about the 21st of Dec, headed for Tacoma. Snow the night before, but nice fluffy stuff about three inches deep. Semi up ahead about a quarter of a mile, another vehicle behind about the same distance, going about 45 in my GMC with my now ex-wife. Where I-15 splits off, the semi starts up that exit/split, then decides to come back on the road I am on. He jack knifes the rig in front of us, skidding across the highway directly in our path. I didn't slam on the brakes, but steered gently toward the median. Shit, I missed him by about 6 inches! I never uttered a word but about 5 miles up the road, the wife burst into tears, saying we were nearly killed! I don't think my pulse increased, but I was afraid if we hit, it was on her side.

I remember reading about the complexity of polio vaccines in the context of sterilizing vs non-sterilizing vaccines. The OPV is sterilizing. The IPV (injectable) is not.

In the old days before polio was officially declared "eradictated" in the US, we gave *both* vaccines to children.

The IPV was to prevent the small number of cases of actual polio that the OPV would cause.

The IPV will prevent polio infection in the gut from progressing to paralytic polio disease, but it will not stop infection and transmission in the gut. The OPV does.

My mom and I are headed to PA tomorrow to see my 95 year old grandma and go to my best friend (basically adopted sister)'s husband's 50th birthday party that was supposed to be a surprise but then ended up not going to be a surprise. There's a chance I will see people that I haven't seen in 20 years, which is scary and exciting at the same time.

In other news, it rained cats and dogs in Delaware tonight and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to scrape all the oil off of the car in time to leave tomorrow. Damn this state and the oil rain.

215
There are two types of polio caused by the OPV. One is called vaccine-associated Paralytic Polio, or VAPP. This is when administration of the OPV itself results in actual polio. This happens very rarely, the one in a million or less.

The other type is VDPV, or vaccine-derived polio virus. This is when the attenuated live virus, excreted, manages to become un-attenuated and infect other, non-immune people. This is not as rare as VAPP.

VDPV has occurred in the US a few times before.

I am disappointed that a blue hair’s deflated boobs got any attention on this blog. No. I am disgusted. You guys are better than that. Ace, you are for sure better than that. There are plenty of women, natural hair color, who should they have to bear cleavage would have sent you guys to outer space and you’d never be the same.

If I ever see a blue-haired, deflated-boob woman in her twenties to early thirties on this site again, I will stop coming here. I am in my 40’s and if my boobs looked like that I would have surgery. If that is the caliber of “okay” here then this blog has its sites set too low and I am punching down here.

Pretty sure you are correct. The Daniel Defense is one of the high end and depending on the model, some Sigs can be mid to pricey. 349 Just dropping this here before I return to work.

That spiked article abut Boris pissed me off. I thought the premise WD pointed out was off - I think the Left has become Jr. HS girls and they have to call everything out of their favor as "the worst." It is not a reflection of anti-populism, because they are too stupid to even think that deep. I have seen it for years in the growing hatred for Thatcher. I wondered how she would be handled by the article, so I read it. Well, the author makes it clear that Thatcher was clearly worse - she saved the UK economy by not bowing to the coal unions, she fought the war in agintina, and good God why wasn't she directing fans at Hillsborough to prevent the crowd from crushing people. (What, did this asshat look up mass casualties during her term and just list them out?)

OK, i go now.

I'd wake up and there'd be nothing… I hardly said a word to my wife until I said yes to a divorce. When I was here I wanted to be there. When I was there, all I could think of was getting back into McMurdo. I've been here a week now. Waiting for a mission, getting softer. Every minute I stay in this tent I get weaker. And every minute Charlie squats in the snow he gets stronger.

Each time I look around the tent flaps move in a little tighter."

Prostitutes flood in to the SuperBowl weekend, world series towns, NBA finals towns, NASCAR races, big rodeos...all of just plain old truckstops have them. Anywhere that (mainly) men are gathered, pimps will bring their girls. Even opening deer season in NY/Penn/Mich/Wisc/Minn there are hookers at or near the hotels.(Ya got to admit..if you had a tiny shanty on a frozen lake spending hours staring a mini fish pole, a bobber, and a hole in the Ice and some chickie chick taps on the door and says..."I'll be yer bobber...$20", yer gonna "think" about it... just to break the boredom, or maybe as a once in a lifetime experience/event.

416 Well, I am getting mighty sleepy. Spent 5 hours this evening removing a tire from a wheel. One of the wheels off this helicopter dolly that I disassembled. Tire size 3.10/4.50-6. Six play rating, good for a thousand pounds (!). Well, the gomers had filled them with urethane. That shit is heavy. Not foam, solid urethane rubber, inside the inner tube. Which was all decayed, not that it mattered.

So I set up the wheel in my brake lathe, and simply milled away at one side until my cut intersected the drop center of the (aluminum) rim. The flange came off, and a little further cutting allowed the remainder of the wheel to pop out the other side. Then I spent hours digging the urethane doughnut out of the tire carcass. It was an epic struggle. And I have 7 more of the bastards to do.

Indeed. Those that've been where I teach some shooty stuff, will have heard me urge even the gentlest souls, to learn how to kill one's own game or livestock, for dinner.

Doesn't matter if you shoot a deer, clobber a cow with a captive-bolt gun, or lop off a chicken's head with a hatchet. *Killing*, is different from "shooting". Most don't know the difference. But it's a hell of a difference, and the average deer hunter will prevail over a vapor-locked cop or soldier, who freezes up at the critical moment. (see: Uvalde)

467 Saint of the Day
St. Mary Magdalen (1st c.) was a friend and devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Formerly she had been a woman of ill repute out of whom Jesus exorcised seven demons. Mary Magdalene has a special place among the Lord's disciples and is mentioned several times in the Gospels. She stood at the foot of the Cross with St. John and the Blessed Mother, and went the next morning to Christ's tomb to anoint his body. As a reward for her great love and faithfulness, she is the first recorded witness of Jesus' Resurrection. It was Mary Magdalene who informed the twelve Apostles that Jesus rose from the dead--for this she is called "Apostle to the Apostles." After Jesus' Ascension into heaven, Mary Magdalene continued her mission as an evangelist, contemplative, and mystic in the heart of the Church. According to the Eastern tradition, she went to Ephesus with the Virgin Mary and died there. St. Mary Magdalene is the patron of women, repentant sinners, penitent women, reformed prostitutes, contemplatives, converts, pharmacists, perfumers, hairstylists, and against sexual temptation.

472 This talk of refashioning furniture into o\ther furniture is cool. My work desk at home is an ancient library table, vintage 1959-60 (I'm guessing), that my father brought home not long before I started school and assembled. My brother and I drove pencils into it, built models and did homework on it, and it was our family's dining table. I kept it and one of the captain's chairs when my mother passed on.

It serves me still, but I'd love to have them refinished -- not to remove the scars, probably impossible anyway, but just to put a gloss on them or remove some of 60 years' collected scumminess. I know a real wood furniture place that I think does refinishing.

WA, when I was working at a furniture shop in Boston, we'd visit the Boston Museum of Fine Art to taken measurements and such. The restorers there would purposefully leave the scars - tobacco burns, etc. - when cleaning and repairing the one of a kind, priceless pieces. The conservators thinking was that those scars were an integral part of the history of the piece and should remain. You know - John Adams spilled ink on his desk - things like that.

One of the pieces I'm keeping is the kitchen table.
It was my great grandparents table that got passed on to my parents at some point in the early 50s. It's oak and beautiful. The chairs are mismatched high back that came along later but are comfortable, in excellent condition, and they will fit with the rest of the decor.
