He should know we need to be able to compile it with the standard libraries and then install it anywhere or it is not useful. I'm going to have to just kick that to our software and compiling expert to figure out if we need to update some libraries to match what the scientist had and then things will be fine or what. I tried just copying his local dir to the machine I'm testing on and things won't compile, apparently those libs are not compatible with our default compiler. UGH.

Never went to RC school, but I think some of the corporal punishment was justified. Not all, but some. I went to a public school. The male teacher would pick up some of the disruptive boys by their shirt collars and lift them off the floor. He's also slammed down the open top desks when their hands were far away from them. Engineer reported sending fix to customer. I was 'technical sales' and at a meeting the *engineer* didn't have the requisite 'checked into source code library' box checked.
I asked that he put the all the source code in SCML. Engineer says 'I can't I've already made changes to my 'sandbox'.
So the customer (very large) has code that no sales engineer can duplicate and the next time he finds a problem the sales engineer is going to look like a fool.
I might have lost my temper.
The guy holding the meeting went to my boss. My boss said " you want AZ_D replaced? Okay, I'll come in his stead, and remember Bob, I can get people fired."
Bob decided I was doing just fine.
And we did look like fools the next time the huge customer had a problem we couldn't duplicate.

I had a magical moment years ago. WifeH and I were driving home at about 10 PM on a two lane road with cornfields on either side, almost like a tunnel. The fireflies were so thick and bright I almost did not need headlights, and I slowed to a crawl to avoid hitting them with the windshield.
I can still see that beautiful vision in my mind's eye!

I had a nun use the ruler on the hand. We had all the horror stories, cause at least Catholic kids love horror stories ... kid was numb from cold and kept saying the ruler didn't hurt so the nun kept hitting until he DIED.
We got it from the boys meowing like cats on the way from recess to the classroom upstairs for some reason.

To be fair, we could be hard to work with without practice, but there were nice lay teachers and nun teachers and sterner ones. Even the boss nun wasn't too bad even though she had to play the heavy a lot of the time.

I was a huge Brucie fan as a teen in the late 70s. And I saw him live as late as 85 or so. They were still good live. Make that "nominal elected leader" and you're probably right. There have been utterly pathetic 'leaders' who inherited the job. Ethelred the Unready must have earned his epithet; there was a Turkish sultan named Selim the Sot; and Hirohito's father was hustled off to a rest home after a few years of rolling up important papers into 'telescopes', looking at his cabinet through them, and giggling. (One reason Hirohito served so long was that he got the job very young, because his father was a lunatic or half-wit or a bit of each and had to be removed.)
I'm sure there have been others. But a leader who was (supposedly) elected? Plenty of them have turned out to be evil, vicious, perverted, tyrannical, prone to every one of the Seven Deadly Sins, but not many have turned out to be so utterly inept they can't even tie their shoes and have to be drugged even to speak incoherently.

Thanks. I should have phrased it better. Plenty of elected leaders have ended up senile and helpless while still in office, but how many have been totally disabled when they were 'elected'? Though a total asshole and wrong on just about every issue, Wilson was in command of his faculties when he was elected and then re-elected.
By the way, I've lived literally next door to the Wilson Library-Museum for 14 years and only stepped inside once: to tell the gift shop they should tell their buildings-and-grounds guy he should take care of the tent caterpillars on their black walnut tree, before they spread to my (well, my landlord's) back yard. I've never paid admission to see the exhibits, and never will, though I don't mind looking at his 1919 Pierce-Arrow convertible now and then through the picture window.
