Deep State Media Outlet NPR: "Questions Have Resurfaced" About Ukraine's Corruption

One of the ballsiest propaganda media moves is to just put a lie right in the headline:

Questions have resurfaced? No, the questions have always been there, as ITGuy says; you're just permitting them to be asked now, perhaps because your political priorities have shifted this week. Maybe the Deep State has decided a message needs to be sent to Zelenskyy that he is our dog and he must do as his masters wish, or maybe doggie won't get fed on schedule.

So I guess the fundamental corruption of the Ukrainian government is no long a QAnon Conspiracy Theory pushed by Russian Disinformation Fascists? At least, not for the next few days, anyway?

I'd like to "resurface some questions" about the corrupt oligarchy ruling the US government.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's dismissal of senior officials is casting an inconvenient light on an issue that the Biden administration has largely ignored since the outbreak of war with Russia: Ukraine's history of rampant corruption and shaky governance.
As it presses ahead with providing tens of billions of dollars in military, economic and direct financial support aid to Ukraine and encourages its allies to do the same, the Biden administration is now once again grappling with longstanding worries about Ukraine's suitability as a recipient of massive infusions of American aid.
Those issues, which date back decades and were not an insignificant part of former President Donald Trump's first impeachment, had been largely pushed to the back burner in the immediate run-up to Russia's invasion and during the first months of the conflict as the U.S. and its partners rallied to Ukraine's defense.
But Zelenskyy's weekend firings of his top prosecutor, intelligence chief and other senior officials have resurfaced those concerns and may have inadvertently given fresh attention to allegations of high-level corruption in Kyiv made by one outspoken U.S. lawmaker.
It's a delicate issue for the Biden administration. With billions in aid flowing to Ukraine, the White House continues to make the case for supporting Zelenskyy's government to an American public increasingly focused on domestic issues like high gas prices and inflation. High-profile supporters of Ukraine in both parties also want to avoid a backlash that could make it more difficult to pass future aid packages.
U.S. officials are quick to say that Zelenskyy is well within his right to appoint whomever he wants to senior positions, including the prosecutor general, and remove anyone who he sees as collaborating with Russia.
Yet even as Russian troops were massing near the Ukrainian border last fall, the Biden administration was pushing Zelenskyy to do more to act on corruption -- a perennial U.S. demand going back to Ukraine's early days of independence.

Yeah I remember when Biden demanded that the Ukrainian government fire a prosecutor probing his son's company, Burisma, or lose, what was it, $1.6 billion in US funding.

Corruption sure has been a top priority for the Biden Crime Family. So many business opportunities!

The admin wanted a foreign "crisis" that they could resolve in order to repair their reputation after the humiliation of Afghanistan. They chose to pick a fight with Russia over Ukraine, only they misjudged and ended up forcing/giving cover for Putin to invade. Then they misjudged the capabilities of the Russian military, and rather than a quick Russian victory the war is dragging out, forcing the US and Euros to honor their promises to back the UKR gov.

Lately, many of the trillions are QE ... not debt sold, which has to be repaid with interest. It in time makes the currency worth less (inflation), but for now USD still strong, still the reserve currency.

I also think there was an agreement. But I think part of the agreement was an understanding that Zelensky would flee the country in disgrace instead of fighting back. Presumably Zelensky wasn't a party to that agreement, though, or the linked understanding. So when the White House offered to fly him out, he surprised both sides of that agreement by insisting on fighting, instead.

A bit over half of the Russian Armed Forces are ONE YEAR Conscripts. ONE YEAR. Hell, I didn't get to my first ship until almost 2 years of schooling. Basic infantry in the US is what... 14 to 22 Weeks? Then on to any armor or advanced training?

Russian army was not ready for prime time... but it is now gaining combat experience... if this lasts a year, they will be much tougher, then when they started.

Not that I approve, but... Ironically, this is normal for our armed forces and ATGMs. For example, apparently in the '80s we had no spares of our (crappy) Dragon ATGMs. The missiles carried by the guys packing the launch tubes was the sun total of our supply.

I think Putin thought the Uke Government would fall... and it would then try to flee the country... thus taking the airport would stop one way for them to quickly leave the country.

When the Ukes did not cave... as expected... the airport Operation became non essential...

I think Russia bet on a quick surrender... which didn't happen.

The armored reinforcements from Belarus didn't arrive and the paratroopers couldn't hold the airport without them. Shooting down that planeload of troops proved the airbridge alternative untenable. Had the armor gotten there I think the war would have been quickly over. Now it is just a grind.

The diplomats thought they could corner the Russians by dropping sanctions, so they crushed out any hope of a diplomatic solution before the war. Then their sanctions turned out to hurt the West far more than Russia, and the Ukrainian army and people pay the price.

It would be foolish to expect a well provisioned and dug in force could be evicted in a day or a week, but the Russians are getting close to finishing the job of ejecting them from the Donbas now. It remains to be seen what they do then, but the tricks played by the West to supply Ukraine hardly will make Russia be inclined to risk allowing them the resources to rebuild and start over again easily.

I think the spearheads were a show of force in case the Ukrainians gave in rapidly to support a caretaker government. When that didn't happen, they went to the other plan to methodically reduce the exposed troops in the Donbas, which they did without many setbacks.

Sanctions can't hurt Russia, we've done it too much for fun and they have taken steps. The sanctions they did put in hurt EU far more, even when they made exceptions in the rules for Russian Oil carriers didn't risk moving shipments for fear of being broken.

Many third party nations saw the excessive grab for Russian assets and wondered why that couldn't happen to them and are breaking up the old world order of payments.

Telling Russia it can't buy X doesn't mean much if they have X already, and if half the world will sell it to them anyhow.

487 I suspect that there are. The Chechen government is part of Russia, and so Chechens in uniform are part of the Russian army. But there are a lot of Chechens who don't like being part of Russia. In fact, some very bloody wars were fought over that. Why would you expect those Chechens to stay out of a war in which they can shoot Russians?
