The Morning Report — 7/20/22

trumpismtrumptrump.jpg

Good morning, kids. Wednesday and say what you will about Donald Trump as a president or perhaps as a candidate for 2024. There is no doubt that the anti-globalist, anti-Leftist, pro-American agenda is an absolute winner, even in deepest, bluest Democrat strongholds. Ironically, what makes it such a winner is not so much because for three solid years, everyone across the board felt the effects of the greatest economic boom time in American history. It's that contrasted with 18 solid months of the wanton, intentional destruction of the personal wealth of virtually every American citizen due to the ideologically driven incompetence of those pulling the strings of President Sponge-Brain Shits-Pants.

As Ace and a number of cobs, most notably CBD, have noted over the past several months, is the utter uselessness and indeed co-conspiratorial nature of the GOP in aiding and abetting America's gradual dissolution since the 60s, and now all-at-once since Dubya/Obama. If electoral politics still means something more than merely a barometer (and I do have serious doubts), then the GOP either has to be wiped out or taken over by MAGA acolytes, primary by bloody primary. This primary season, Trump-endorsed candidates have won an overwhelming number of victories and last night in Maryland of all places, another one took the prize.

Maryland Delegate Dan Cox (R-04), who secured former President Donald J. Trump’s highly valuable endorsement, defeated Trump critic Gov. Larry Hogan’s (R-MD) choice as his successor, Kelly Schulz, in Maryland’s Republican gubernatorial primary.

Cox was the only candidate with Trump’s backing in a contest Tuesday night and handily beat out Schulz, who served as secretary of labor, licensing, and regulation and secretary of commerce during different points of Hogan’s administration. Trump endorsed Cox in November, and the race became a microcosm of something much larger happening in the GOP as the America First movement and Republican establishment battle for the soul of the party. With 68 percent reporting at 11:20 p.m., Cox had garnered 56 percent of the vote, trouncing Schulz, who took home 40 percent, the Associated Press election results shared by the New York Times show. The victory signals that conservatives in Maryland are more aligned with Trump than the departing governor. . .

. . . The victory puts Trump’s endorsement record at 147-10 in 2022, and notably, Trump has been perfect with his picks in 22 other states.

Again, I do not think these results are purely because of Donald Trump the president, let alone the man. Republicans fully understand the nature of the GOPe and have had enough, They do not want candidates who accept the Leftist narrative on a whole range of issues. They want unabashed, unafraid individuals to tell the Left and the media (but I repeat myself) to take their pronouns, pronouncements and perversions and shove them up their ass until it comes out their nose.

That said, the question of Trump's potential candidacy in 2024 remains. I am in the camp that he should not run. I think he's too old, despite his mental faculties still very much intact, and some of his unforced errors, particularly with Fauci and the CDC in the initial handling of the psy-op pandemic which was the biggest and ultimately led to his undoing. I think he should use his well-deserved fame and following to lead an actual movement that goes beyond just electoral politics. But, the tea leaves seem to indicate that he indeed will throw his yuuuge MAGA hat into the ring, probably some time soon after the midterms. I think he sees his incredible winning streak with his endorsements as an endorsement of him at the top of the ticket in '24 and not the reaction to the past 18 months of hell on earth.

Look, if he gets the nod, I will crawl naked through molten lava to vote for him. But I think we're better served with Ron DeSantis as the standard-bearer. Young, a fighter who not only defends himself but goes on the attack against the left, and has made Florida into a beacon of freedom and prosperity.

What I also think DeSantis can do — and really, all the MAGA candidates must do going forward — is win over the disaffected by doing everything the GOPe never did: boldly stating the case for American economic prosperity, societal normalcy and stability and foreign policy sanity by attacking everyone and everything Democrat/Leftist, nonstop and with no mercy. Has to be done. Again, does electoral politics really make an actual difference in effecting an actual reversal of course when every aspect of both the public and private sectors has been so thoroughly corrupted? Not by itself. Perhaps not at all. Yet more and more people are scared shitless of where we are going. We will always have the low-information voter, but thanks to what our government and both parties have wrought, that segment of the populace is shrinking in direct proportion to the rising cost of living. I guess we have that to be grateful for.

    ABOVE THE FOLD, BREAKING, NOTEWORTHY

  • "What, then has education been doing to our civilization? The very concept of IQ, the Stanford-Binet test, and things similar, is, as its critics argue, a cultural construct—less a measure of potential than of capacities already developed. It’s no surprise that persons growing up in environments which stimulate and enable the development of human possibilities do in fact develop more of these." 4 Saint of the Day
St. Margaret (289-304 A.D.) was born in Antioch, the daughter of a pagan priest. Her mother died when she was an infant, and she was raised by a Christian nurse. St. Margaret grew into a pious and virtuous young woman. When she came of age, Margaret returned to live with her father and quickly angered him when she refused to take part in pagan sacrifices. Furious at her, he drove her out of his home. Margaret then returned to live with her nurse. One day a Roman prefect noticed Margaret's beauty and desired to have her for himself. Margaret declined. She was brought to trial, scourged, tortured, and thrown into prison by her suitor. While there, the devil appeared to her in the form of a dragon to break her faith. Margaret made the Sign of the Cross, and the dragon fled defeated. Margaret's cell was filled with light and her wounds were miraculously healed. Enraged to find her healed, her suitor had new tortures applied to her body, which did her no harm and caused many witnesses to convert to the Christian faith. She was then killed by beheading. She is the patron saint against sterility, of the dying, and of pregnancy, labor, and childbirth.

I don't think there really is a question, Trump is going to run, all other candidates would be wasting time, money, and creating needless drama and should clear the field for him.

DeSantis is an awesome governor and should remain being an awesome governor until Trump leaves the scene.

14 Trump is too old. Though he is more vital and energetic than almost anyone could be, there is just (IMO) too many miles on the tread.

Having said that, I am not convinced DeSantis is ruthless enough. Destroying the FBI and imprisoning Merrick Garlands little elves is going to take a deep-seated commitment,. Trump has that, I believe. Does DeSantis?

Like Bender touched on above, Desantis should focus on the state and help other governors focus on strengthening their states, because that's where the victory lies. Let Trump or other superstars take the arrows of the impotent office of the president, because if Desantis is there he would be treated exactly like Trump was.

I think we're already past the point where we can have a functioning republic like we were all convinced we had up until 2000 (note the language, because I'm not sure we had one until then, either).

A controlled burn with coordinated 10th Amendment action is our best hope at this point.

19 Maryland is a democratic state. But I was shocked that the lunatic Tom Perez has so much traction. Wes Moore is not great but is miles better than Comrade Perez. Barring any last minute Soros shenanigans, it looks like we dodged a bullet.

Same with MoCo, where the current leader (for County Exec) - Blair is a normal successful person who is running as a democrat while Elrich is a joke. I guess Elrich has the incumbent advantage but is still losing. Fingers crossed.

28 There's an older President than there's biden. Let's not confuse the two. Biden is and always has always been a mean spirited and a not so bright politician. He parlayed his wife's and daughter's death into a political career mover and then he added in Beau. PDT on the other hand is smart and except for the campaign and his 4 years in office not a politician. Look at the man and not the age. Saying all of that I don't want PDT to run, why should he put himself and his family through what he endured in the past. However, if the repubs don't come up with a better option he needs to run.

More than likely, the bigger problem is congress and the GOP.

Without their support in the effort, which Trump and DeSantis will never get, the fight will largely be symbolic and pyrrhic.

As Tom Servo said, I believe, the Presidency is largely a false prize and as we have seen since Clinton is that one executive simply upends what the previous administration did.

Also the administrative state is now largely in the complete control and thrall of the Donk party and will resist any GOP executive action.

It's neat to look back and see the purposeful destruction of the black family in the 60s ("we'll have them n*&&*rs voting Democrat for 200 years" -LBJ), and then the purposeful destruction of the white family soon after (remember how brave and celebrated Murphy Brown was?), and now here we are wondering why our kids are a wreck and the Democrat children keep putting on dresses and shooting at everyone.

Those idiots who warned about stable families and fathers in the home were dumb slippery slope conspiracy theorists, though.

Cox may lose. I hope not. But Trump's influence is controlling much of the primary season. And yet, Doctor Oz in PA has declared that 'the MAGA movement is dying'. This, just weeks after Trump's endorsement barely dragged his rotten corpse over the primary finish line by a micrometer.

Sigh. And so it goes.

I too hope that Trump doesn't declare, but I'll be mostly obligated to vote for him in the primary, just because. He has EARNED my vote. DeSantis doesn't run my state. His future is bright, but maybe not in 2024. And I'd moar think him a fool to challenge a declared Trump in the 2024 primary.

48 I've been scratching my head as to why Trump hasn't been completely bro-ing out with DeSantis. The two of them together would be an epoch defining team. Maybe it's just Trump's arrogance... but I've always been of the opinion that Trump's vaunted arrogance is just an act. When it's time for actual action, he usual seemed to be very willing to be more water than stone. Letting the GOP pick his subordinates. Letting Hawaiian judges have their way and side-stepping their rulings without going against them. Etc. So maybe he simply sees DeSantis as yet another flash in the pan Severe Conservative who's just waiting for his moment to Scott Brown himself into national irrelevance. I don't know.

The weight of history and what is in front of us means change is coming. Electoral politics as a function of normal order does not necessarily register as a factor of that change but for sure of the mood of the electorate.

We are in an interregnum, poised over an abyss as dark or darker than the one Churchill warned about on the eve of the Battle of Britain.

68 I'm vacationing with my SIL and her family. She is a pediatrician. Monkeypox came up in conversation. She was unaware it seems to affect gay men most often. After she looked it up she has become strangely quiet on the matter.

*

I commented on it yesterday, but this sort of thing is so disconcerting. I had a doctors appointment and the office insisted I put on a disposable mask upon entry. I could understand if it was February 2020, but it's almost August two years later. We know things now, mainly that masks do absolutely nothing. And the doctors offices where we go to ask for help on medical issues immediately ding their credibility by requiring patients who are there to ask medical questions to hold a magical totem against evil when they enter the office.

I don't expect doctors to know everything, but I do sort of expect a scientific approach to, you know, science.

69 As Tom Servo said, I believe, the Presidency is largely a false prize and as we have seen since Clinton is that one executive simply upends what the previous administration did.

Other than the fact the win the Presidential Sweepstakes gives you controlling access to a Multi Trillion Dollar International Slush Fund. You get to reward cronies with ambassadorships, sinecure Secretary and director positions, and given the new powers discovered by the current ruling junta - complete dictatorial power over all living things if you frame your tyranny in the terms of an amorphous and ambiguous Climate Emergency.

D vs. R, L vs. C, black vs. white, straight vs. gay are all ginned up to keep the country from uniting and kicking everyone of them out of power and hold them accountable. It absolutely IS an endorsement of him. It is proof that people want to go back to what they had under Trump and and proof that they are putting faith in his endorsements.

I'm absolutely stunned that people here have fallen for the media's gaslighting. Who exactly are the democrats and their media allies terrified of? Who are the democrats STILL trying to prevent from running by repeatedly trying to impeach him? They are clearly telling you who they fear the most.

I have no problem with DeSantis and would absolutely vote for him if he were to get the nod. But the truth is, as good as he is, he is untested. He's got a friendly legislature behind him and indeed they have been the originators of many of the things DeSantis gets credit for signing.

My ideal would be Trump/DeSantis in 2024 and then DeSantis at the top of the ticket in 2028 and 2032. It's going to take at least 12 years to get this country back on track.

102 But, the tea leaves seem to indicate that he [Trump] indeed will throw his yuuuge MAGA hat into the ring, probably some time soon after the midterms.

-------

FWIW, Seb Gorka has been saying for months that Trump IS running, and that -- after speaking with somebody close to the Trump camp -- he expects The Donald to announce BEFORE the midterms.

I think the idea is, should the R's (and especially those he endorses continue to) subsequently crush the Margin of Fraud in the midterms, he can perhaps take some credit for that success and cast it as a mandate for his return to the Presidency.

It might help energize The MAGA Base, but of course it could also energize the GOPee (establishment eunuchs) as well as Psychotic Left & MDM-MSM (BIRM). Anyway, an unconventional break with the past, but something not wholly unexpected from A Disruptor.

107 I think our number one enemy is not actually the Media or the Democrats, but lethargy and habit.

Take as a good example my parents. They grew up in the 50s and 60s (both born in '4, in rural Texas (mostly - mom's family moved around some, but stayed in west Texas while Dad's family was pretty stationary in Odessa). To them, the news will - to some extent - always be Walter Cronkite and the difference between the Republicans and Democrats is not that Republicans are Conservative and Democrats are Progressive, but that Republicans are good for business while Democrats (try to be) good for people.

No matter how much evidence they see, that will always be the truth for them - even though, intellectually, they know otherwise (and they do: we've talked about it a lot).

That is what we have to combat and overcome. People need to accept and internalize the truth they may know but still haven't accepted: that the UniParty has decided to deliver us into Globalist hands and our nation and culture will have to be ripped from their hands - by ballot preferably.

133 Even if they could rig the 2024 election to give Biden 3 billion votes and a 57-state landslide (why wouldn't they, and who would stop them?), I just can't see them continuing the deteriorating optics unless it's purely to rub our noses in his Depends.

I think the fact they haven't already removed Biden via the 25th Amendment shows that they're in trouble. I really think they elected Biden to install President Harris, but she's shown herself to be SO stupid and incompetent - not to mention unlikable - that the Junta realized that won't work.

I won't be surprised if she gets the boot in 2024 and Joe picks a new running mate - someone the Junta thinks can further their agenda. Then they'll pull out all the stops to get him "re-elected," let him serve a few months (or maybe 2 years and a couple of months so they can dream of effectively 10 years of President Whomever) and then remove him.

Alternatively, they roll the dice with Harris - because Joe is doing so poorly (they really do have a very deep bench of failure, don't they?) and wait until Jan or Feb next year.

134 : What do you get when you cross a herd of cows with a light-duty pickup truck?

A: A trip for 4 to the ER and a totaled truck.

I'm a wee bit sore today (yesterday was worse) after doing just that (well, my wife was driving - in her defense, it was bad light, the cows were all road-colored, and they were just standing there).

Circa 1978 Bann, Germany. Driving on a curvy unmarked road. Came around blind curve to see herd of cows in middle of road. High embankment on one side and sloping hillside towards village below on other. Slick, wet road. Yeah Buddy I hit a couple of cows. Trucks were built a little better back then.

But, yeah, people are all fine. The truck is totaled. We've just started dealing with the insurance, but don't expect any issues (thank God Texas is a closed range State).

Actually, that's likely to be the biggest holdup is that we know whose cows they were, and in Texas he's liable for them being in the road. Our Insurance may insist we go after him for reimbursement - which we don't want to do because he's a friend.

147 A couple comments on the main thrust of the essay today:

1) It isn't a Trump endorsement. The voters are pissed and are taking it out on those they believe are establishment. They want bomb throwers in office. Trump's endorsement is a signal to the voters to know who the establishment hates. Recall the bitching from that one GOP consultant that 80% of the base is MAGA now.

2) It is happening all over the country. Kari Lake has a 14 point lead over the establishment (Pense endorsed) Robson in AZ. In MI-03 Gibbs will beat the Dem by 10, while (impeachment voting) Meijer loses to the Dem by 10. In MI-03 the Republican voters are planning to actually vote Dem if Meijer wins the primary.

3) Like it or not, Trump is going to run and DeSantis will not challenge him. This is a done deal, so adjust your expectations. You might want something else, but this is what is coming for 24.

4) There are only two ways politically to get rid of the GOPe. You can either reform it by doing everything possible to elect America First candidates, or destroy it by allowing the Democrats to fully control Washington for a decade, then hope to have a new party rise from the ashes. (cont)

152 Trump has been in the lion's mouth and yet still managed to push the enemy to the brink. It took the third or fourth historic and grotesque global operation against him to finally make him into a human being.

Assuming DeSantis or anyone else has this level of hubris and fortitude, let alone power of rabble rousing and mass marketing persuasion, and will not be swallowed up and discarded by the beast once it really sets its eyes upon him, is likely (though not necessarily) wishful thinking.

Remember - if we ride the Ron horse and they manage to take him out with the dirtiest of tricks, whether pure threats and intimidation, going after his family, using something real from his past, buying and selling him, or flat inventing five hundred worldwide scandals until one sticks, then that is it. We have no one to come behind him aside from the Haleys, Bushes and Pences.

All of this is ignoring the question of whether The Ronald could *ever* build the impossible coalition Trump did by playing the Left at their own game, and by not being beholden to a soul but himself and his own judgment.

Trying new things is nice, but I remain flatly uncertain.

171 (cont) I have my doubts that we would survive full Democrat control, they would federalize everything and put the levers in place to make sure no one could win an election who is not Party approved. So we become the 20th century Soviets. A lot of people around here think we already are, but I reject that idea otherwise things like Dobbs wouldn't happen.

But I think the GOPe is likely to die. The voters usually get what they want. Just like the middle of the road Democrats were wiped out by the Democrat leftists, the GOPe is also on the way out. The future of Congress is highly partisan with full voiced Socialists on one side and America First on the other. There isn't going to be room for many people of either party in the middle.

But we will see, the Deep State is entrenched and it protects itself through political persecution, political prosecution, and literal murder. 175 "The very concept of IQ, the Stanford-Binet test, and things similar, is, as its critics argue, a cultural construct"

This is a perfect example of where Progressivism is a result of the Enlightenment gone too far. The concept of "Intelligence Quotient" comes from the idea that the human - the entire human, not just the physiology/biology, but everything, including the brain and every emotion and thought - is controlled by scientific laws that can be discovered and manipulated just like physical laws. The Enlightenment would have said "Oh no, the human mind and soul is special, created by God, and not really subject to scientific law; you're trying to make science do what it can't." Progressivism says, "We are gods, because SCIENCE!, and therefore we can do this; there is no metaphysical to ponder, just science."

This is one of the places where Progressivism takes a virtue, rips out the governor, and mashes the pedal to the floor.

So, they came up with tests to mechanically discover which people were smart enough to be elite (receive a college education, for example) and which would remain among the hoi polloi.

Another twist: does "confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress" mean as part of a joint session, or does it mean by BOTH SEPARATELY? A little vaguely worded, and I don't know the history when this has happened in the past.

I disagree here, but I think the net effect may end up being similar. The LIVs are still LIVs, and they are still the majority of the electorate. They may, however, pivot. In the past, the LIV voted on inertia and that will continue, but the past few years may have changed the *direction* of that inertia. The pain of an ineffective COVID response, the pain of inflation, the pain of energy prices, the coming pain of food prices and availability, the loud and crass focus on shit that doesn't matter, the tone-deafness and arrogance of people like AOC - all of this likely does matter.

They don't know - and won't learn - the details - but the damage around them and pain in their lives may push them into being LIVs who support the neopopulists by default. If an LIV disruption and reorientation has occurred, that is a historic electoral game-changer.

||An Indianapolis doctor who performed an abortion on a 10-year-old rape victim from Ohio took the first step Tuesday toward suing Indiana’s attorney general for defamation.

Dr. Caitlin Bernard, an Indianapolis obstetrician-gynecologist who gave the girl a medication-induced abortion on June 30, filed a tort claim notice over what she says are false statements that Attorney General Todd Rokita has made about her and her work.

[...] After the news of the 10-year-old's abortion broke, Rokita told Fox he would investigate whether Bernard violated child abuse notification or abortion reporting laws. He also said his office would look into whether anything Bernard said to the Indianapolis Star about the girl's case violated federal medical privacy laws. Rokita offered no specific allegations of wrongdoing.||

#MeToo. Whether with himself as the first candidate, or someone else (I think he should be setting up a protege and unquestioned successor in any event). I think it must be a new Party, with new, aggressive branding. And that Party should have electoral politics as a *secondary* focus, at least in the near-to-medium term.

It would, by definition be an actual Movement, something new and different. Electoral politics is the stage of a movement when a cause becomes a business.

The initial strategy ought to be mass movement politics, street-level stuff, with the electoral operation as a PR push. To lend the movement a patina of legitimacy, while achieving the goal of breaking the GOP's back and replacing it, and attracting Dem voters who'd never consider Republicans. THEN it's time to shift this aggression into retail politics and deliver the death-blow to the Democrats next.

Just my $0.02. Trump doesn't listen to me, but he's in a position to actually do all that. That's how he becomes an historical figure, not with another GOP run.

Only bigger dummies than me think it is easy to accomplish the economic record President Donald Trump did during his time in office.

If asked, DeSantis should run as President Trump’s VP. Even though both now live in Florida, they can do it, and they can win.

If President Trump wants geographic and gender diversity he may select Kari Lake, especially if she wins her race for Governor in Arizona.

And that is you can't cohabitate with Bolsheviks, Communists, Marxists...whatever you want to call them. It's an impossible situation. We will never reconcile. We will never peacefully live as Americans, because that's not going to satisfy them. Ever. They are quite literally hopelessly anti-American and all that that implies.

Just by the language of the 12th amendment, it says that electors vote for President and Vice-President, one of which cannot be from the same state as themselves. So theoretically Florida's electors could vote for Trump for President and another candidate for Vice President, as long as that person is from another state.

I'm sure there's some arcane law passed by Congress that clarifies this or something, but the language in the Constitution itself seems to make this interpretation valid.

People don't install these things in their own cars, they're probably installed in fleet vehicles and those purchased from low-end dealers of they "buy here, pay here" variety. Buy the car and if you miss a payment, they can shut down your ability to drive it and then send the repo man. It makes some sense for the dealer, who is also providing financing to customers with high credit risk.

Do you think the actual users of these devices will fic it? Fleet owners might. Low-end dealers probably won't.

It is another example of a great tagline I once read about the future of IoT: "Our only hope is that the internet of incompatible things collapses under its own weight before the internet of insecure things gets us killed." Sadly, engineers have largely solved compatibility...

291 >> I think he should use his well-deserved fame and following to lead an actual movement that goes beyond just electoral politics.

I think a pretty strong case can be made that is exactly what is happening. There is a major electoral shift going on in the makeup of the Democrat and GOP parties largely along cultural issues.

The Democrat party is becoming the party of big business and the rich and the Republican party is becoming the party of the working man and woman with more traditional values.

Politics is downstream from culture. The Democrats have been trying to change our culture and they had a wide base of support from the grassroots to do it. Now they are losing it to the GOP. Take a look at the polling on things like education and other cultural issues. The GOP isn't just and gaining large numbers of minorities because of Biden hate, many of them are waking up to the fact that the Democrat party doesn't support their values and the America First GOP does. That breakfast taco Mayra Flores is a good example.

But all those things Trump did have lead to people seeing the Democrats for what they are. I'm not arguing for the "long game" here (no time) but rather just an appreciation for what has happened in this country in seven years.

The wool the Democrats and Uniparty had over this country's eyes was thicker than molasses in January, and Trump cut through it with surgical efficiency. It can't be ignored.

345 The Democrat party is becoming the party of big business and the rich and the Republican party is becoming the party of the working man and woman with more traditional values.

In Tucker Carlson's Iowa speech, he likened the difference in that the Left wants you to align with secular forces, abandoning family and traditional values. He didn't characterize the GOP as anything other than the only opposition to these monsters.

In my economy, its the difference between Imago Dei and Lebensunwertes Leben (Image of God vs Life-Unworthy-Of-Life). We are probably speaking of the same things. The Left hates humanity, things of beauty, righteousness and all of the things that make a civilization work together as human beings. They fantasize about what man should be since they are gods and feel that it is their role and responsibility to transform all ways of life to fit their model. And if you don't fit into that model, then you are expendable, since you are not worthy.

The GOP is a mess until the enablers of Darkness are removed and replaced by true representatives of We The People.

But I can also say that the vast majority of high-volume, face-to-patient practitioners (Family Practice, Internal Medicine, OB-GYN, GI, etc) are now almost all working for The Man in the form of a large, highly structured organization. The numbers in solo or small partnership practice have dwindled to insignificance. At the same time, I thought Trump should have held "Love/Hate" retreats at Mar Lago when he was President. That is, invite in 100 prominent cultural Leftist figures at a time for 3-7 day events in which they would have a chance to meet and discuss America and politics. In between, games, entertainments, activities would be offered. One requirement, agreed to in advance, would be an orientation session on the basics of the Constitution. Rape, incest, health risks to the pregnant individual exceptions are in place for a reason.

By definition, getting a 10-year-old pregnant is rape. Substantial number of such cases are by a family member. 10 year old bodies are not mature enough to safely carry a pregnancy to term and deliver.

It's probably more likely the child was taken across state lines to evade prosecution of the rapist.

What pisses me off the most about the left is that they are just flat out stupid yet continually allowed to breathe. You can't "break" the food chain, supply chain or oil chain slightly. When you break it, you break it across the board.

The "elites" will be in the same boat as the rest of us when there is no food to eat. You can't break it by starving plants of CO2 and think you will somehow get food. Same with the supply chain. No chips = no cars. Period. ICE or EV.

404 Someone was wailing that with Cox winning the primary the Maryland GOP committed suicide.

I consistently forget MD has a GOPe governor. He is indistinguishable from a Dem anyway.

So let's suppose Cox is too conservative for MD. The people in MD elected some crazy Democrat instead. If crazy Democrat ideas work then they'll be happy with him. If crazy Democrat ideas don't work they'll have an opportunity again in 4 years to change course, now better educated as to what a crazy Democrat means for them personally.

I see this a lot in blue states were the GOPe runs people that are basically just "not as crazy" leftwingers. So the people in those states never hear any argument against leftwing ideas, and never really have a choice.

I think it is a flawed approach. Yes, running actual conservatives in blue states means most of them will lose right now. This isn't a short term play. You are hoping after several cycles the LIVs will get that voting for the "nice Democrat" means pain personally for them, and voting for the "extreme rightwing Republican" actually means their lives get better.

405 If DeSantis wants to run in '24, then he should have stepped aside and let someone else run for Governor this year. The governorship should not be a stepping stone to higher office. Floridians deserve to have someone in the office who will be committed to the job for four full years.

407 First, good to see you settled in a sane place and back to the Morning Report, JJ.

I have changed my mind on Trump. I want him to run, and will vote in the 2024 primary for him and in the general if he secures the nomination. My reasoning is this: the leftwing states are likely to secede if he wins. The only peaceful division of the country will happen if that occurs because communists will leave only if they cannot destroy and control.

DeSantis is a fine man and might even cause the same leftist secession, but I'm not so certain there. He could be coopted or bullied into submission. The indications are he would not be, but it is a question mark.

I also will vote in the 2024 general election if someone like Nikki Haley gets nominated or even put on the ticket as Veep, and that vote will be straight down the line for the Democrats and I will continue to do so until the Republican Party is destroyed.

Trump should have taken out the GOP in January 2021, but he still can be useful if he prompts a leftwing secession.

And empirical evidence is totally thrown out when it meets ideology. ALL of the nations signed on to reduce their CO2 levels ended up increasing their CO2 levels. It was ONLY the former United States that lowered it - beyond even what was contractually obligated by replacing coal plants with natural gas plants. Going Green means that you end up burning the filthiest material: bituminous coal because the nukes, natgas pipes and compliant coal was shut down leaving only peat moss and brown coal as emergency fuel.

The answer to lowering CO2 - even if you think killing people and inducing famine and war is acceptable collateral damage in achieving arbitrary and capricious ideological goals - is expand the use of natural gas.

441 I think a pretty strong case can be made that is exactly what is happening. There is a major electoral shift going on in the makeup of the Democrat and GOP parties largely along cultural issues.

The Democrat party is becoming the party of big business and the rich and the Republican party is becoming the party of the working man and woman with more traditional values.
-----
GOP and Dems are the status quo. Full stop. A "movement" must move - as in, it must be going somewhere. The GOP is a dead end.

I think it would be great if Trump (or anyone) became the leader of a mass movement, but that would necessarily be outside of existing Party structures.

If politics is downstream of culture, then let's divert the stream. That happens in the street, not in delegations and caucuses that are basically nothing more than key parties for wealthy old perverts. Politicking can wait.

True dat. I believe the donors are using money plus Joe's vanity to get him to push the Globalist agenda. Joe wants to out-shine both Trump AND Obama.

No one is going to call Joe the Deporter-in-Chief. No one is going to say Obama did more about climate change than Joe. No one is going to say Joe is a Russian tool and appeaser like Trump, and Obama (Crimea). No one is going to say Obama did more about civil rights than Joe (trannies, the equity BS). The incessant claims that no President had greater job growth in the first X months. Joe is working to establish a legacy that will look terrific in Prog-written histories. Time is getting short for his legacy construction.

Of course I could be all wrong. I did not stay in a Holiday Inn last night.

I think it's worse than that. They surely had an abortionist in Ohio who was in their network of people who don't ask questions and don't report obvious criminality. They almost certainly did *not* need to go to Indiana to get a club provider.

They *wanted* to go to another state to get the marketing benefit and open the political salvo against state-level abortion restrictions by using a raped kid as a symbol. This makes it even worse, because it implies that they knew about this kid, knew she had been raped, knew she was pregnant and then conspired with her mother (and probably her rapist) to hold off on getting the abortion until they could put the op in motion by identifying the club provider in Indiana and getting her on board. They probably could have sent her down the street, but chose not to do so because they wanted the "SHE HAD TO CROSS STATE LINES" narrative.

I'm shocked at the number of Republicans that absolutely can't stand Trump. They don't care about his accomplishments - his attitude is what turns them off. I spoke with one elected official that had several chances to vote for Trump, and only voted for him once. He wrote in Nikki Haley (?!) for 2020.

I don't get it, but it's there, and it's real. You'd need a special candidate to break through that.

DeSantis is where he needs to be, showing other governors the power of the position, proving that leadership can come from the state level, leading a bottom up revolt.

Trump is a good cheerleader, and international negotiator and a strong man. He needs to be President.

What has to go is McConnell, McCarthy and the rest of Congressional leadership that tie one hand behind our back prior to the fight. The traitors in the party that are in it for graft must be purged. It's doubtful it will happen, but this is the way.

Meadows' memo confirmed prior reporting by Just the News that Trump on Jan. 19, 2021 declassified a binder of hundreds of pages of sensitive FBI documents that show how the bureau used informants and FISA warrants to spy on the Trump campaign and misled both a federal court and Congress about flaws in the evidence they offered to get approval for the investigation.

Also DeSantis's supporters never can explain why he banned fracking in FL or why he has used FL's red flag laws (passed under Scott after Parkland) to take the guns away from 5000 Floridians while governor.

Finally, despite the revisionist history, DeSantis locked down FL and kept it locked down even as Trump was asking governor's to re-open after Easter 2020. People were legit arrested on beaches. FL was only partially opened up in September 2020 and fully after the vax came out. DeSantis didn't say anything bad about Fauci until recently.

This. I love Trump. Desantis can win a lot of independents. Look it's not me who needs to be convinced. I'll pull the lever for Trump in a nanosecond and would join you JJ in crawling over molten lava naked to vote for him. But if I had my pick as of now it would be Desantis.

What's not so obvious is people believing he automatically has Trump's battleship fortitude, because has fought extremely hard and said a lot of the right things. Trump's constitution is essentially a lifetime one-off and you only need to look to the wilting of just about every other spotlight Republican in the last 20 years.

Like it or not, it is a wildcard until the real testing occurs, which remains to be seen. Acknowledging this is not a thought crime or blind Trump support.

I believe they had to be evacuated back across the river. He blamed Monty, who did not haul ass up the road to relieve them.

He is actually quoted in the book "a bridge too far", from a speech he gave to the pilots dropping them in. On D-Day, his 82nd boys had been scattered to the 4 winds, so when this jump came up he told them "Gentlemen, you can put us down in Holland, or put us down in hell, but put us all down in one place together!".

537 Her weird pseudo-religious crap aside, this kind of blatant and sanctimonious deceit is probably not winning her any converts.

She is a very well spoken, rather attractive woman who used self-deprecating humor to try to disarm folks. She has a doctorate in something, Educational Psychology, I think, but years of working at ETS-the Educational Testing Service which develops tests such as the SAT, GRE, etc doesn't make you an expert of the psychology of kids. There was a woman there who has a degree in psychology and addictions and spent 25 years working with kids in trauma. She was appalled at this stuff. People don't seem to be addressing the fact that a lot of kids who want to transgender have either physical/sexual/mental abuse at home and transgendering is a way, they think, to escape from their bodies and become a new person. No, instead they're given hormone blockers or given surgery to get their breasts take off or not sent to someone who might questions the left wing orthodoxy on this.

538 Ronald Reagan in his first term, and it's easy to forget he had almost as much opposition (even from his own party) as Trump did. But he made a LOT better appointments, for the most part. 2nd term got bogged down, but his first term was glorious.
Posted by: Tom Servo

Better appointments were because there were still members of the GOP who hadn't sold the country out to China to choose from back then.

I was talking to my mom (a LEGAL immigrant) just the other day and she said how sickening it was to her that America is not being run by Americans anymore. It's run by China, the UN, the EU, etc. She said she thinks by the time Americans wake up it will be too late. Sad.

540 There was a lot of discussion about replacing the PGU-14 rounds the GAU-8 was using. But it was mostly because those rounds have a shelf life (plus the PGU-13 was also pretty good round). But tungsten penetrators, et al, simply don't have the firepower the PGU-14 delivers on target. Because of it's pyrophoric nature, the rounds send high velocity, spontaneously combusting particles through the wall of the armor and into the crew space, which is devastating. It is also not radioactive in nature, and more a heavy metal contaminant like lead. FWIW

541 I'm not that worried about Trump's age. I am worried that he seems to be running on "I was robbed; I am owed the presidency" rather than "Remember what life was like during my presidency". Yes, he was robbed, but he needs to end the pity party. He needs to put together a comprehensive plan of what he intends to do if re-elected. And, no, no DeSantis VP. Leave DeSantis down there in Florida doing what descent is does best: provide the country with an example of the good life under a conservative governor vs. trap life under a proggie governor. DeSantis has lots of time.

16 Trump 62,984,828
20 Trump 74,216,154 (with most diverse coalition of any GOP candidate ever).

It's really simple -- any GOP candidate but Trump (including DeSantis no matter how many of Trump's mannerisms he copies) is going to be lucky to get Romney's numbers, as there are at least 11 million people who aren't going to vote for anyone but Trump. Trump got those "unlikely" or "infrequent" voters to the polls.

There was a great comic posted here a few weeks ago that summed up the kids and cross dressing thing perfectly.

549 This is going to be extremely difficult, unfortunately. I live in CT, and am active in local GOP politics because I want to give them one last chance before I walk away from them forever, and I might as well give it my all.

Posted by: Darrell Harris

No offense but I'm not interested one bit in trying to "win over" anybody in CT.

The state has 7 electoral college votes. Plus the alleged Republicans there are not better than the Democrats. Any candidate that would appeal to CT Republicans (such as a Nikky Haley) has no change in the South or Midwest.

554 DeSantis would be foolish to run. First, the system is still completely rigged. There've been no significant changes in any of the 5 craphole states that haven't already been challenged in courts and knocked back down. None.

DeSantis would waste a ton of time and energy on a nothing-burger from an illegitimate government, anyway.

DeSantis is far more powerful as the governor of a Free State. Let Trump run and waste his time and money. Maybe - just maybe - yet another obvious cheat will light a fire under his hardcore believers to finally do something other than share Q drops with each other.

560 Sorry JJ. While I agree with sentiment regarding the takeover/destruction of the current Republican Party as we know it and the implementation - not mere advocacy - of real MAGA policies, not having President Trump at the top of the ticket in 2024 is a nonstarter for me.
What the RINO and Chamber of Commerce Republicans did in 2020 to help Democrats steal a national election, this will never be forgiven by myself and tens of millions across the nation. We are where we are now because the 2020 presidential contest was stolen, with duplicity and complicity from Republican governors (AZ, GA) state legistlatures (AZ, GA, PA, MI, WI) and deep state cooperation. I want justice. I want scalps. I want jail time and real consequences for all (D and R alike) who participated. We aren't letting this go and until so-called "conservative" pundits and leaders supposedly on our side quit thinking they can just brush this massive crime under the rug, then we will NEVER be united as a movement.
I will personally not vote for anyone who isn't Donald Trump in 2024. Republicans be damned!
Also, no mention from you about completing the border wall. That must be done, with mass deportations too.

561 I voted hesitantly vote for Trump in 2016 and enthusiastically 2020. He was dealt a shit hand and was surrounded by wolves in GOP clothing. Yet he still got alot of great stuff done. Anybody hear from ISIS much lately? Threats from North Korea? Terrorism has nearly disappeared. He got the worst 1% on our side to out themselves.

That said, he walked into every one of the traps they set for him. He spent a year talking about how they would try to steal the election and then had no plan. It's a pattern with him.

Even with that, if he had let say Newt Gingrich help out on his Twitter feed he probably would have won reelection.

I am not voting for Haley or pence I will literally vote for Biden oveerthem or anyone of the DCFirsters. A bad dem president is better for our movement than a bad GOP president.

I think Trump is doing much better in his current role and do not wish to vote for him a third time.

562 People (including some here) keep pushing the lie that Trump only talked about pending voter fraud in 2020 and did nothing about it.

Not even close to accurate. As I stated, it's a lie and easily proven to be so, save for those too lazy or invested in a false narrative to be bothered to do a simple online engine search of news articles PRE-ELECTION 2020 that chronicle team Trump's efforts against drop boxes and mail-in ballots in both state and federal courts.

This lie is a NeverTrump talking point and nothing more.
