Under Pressure from Public, Soros DA Alvin Bragg Drops Charges Against Bodega Owner Who Killed Thug In Self-Defense

But they have served notice: Your "right" to self-defense is paper-thin and contingent on public outrcy. They'll steal it if they can.

The DA's office said it had filed a motion in Manhattan Criminal Court to dismiss the case against the 61-year-old bodega worker after a investigation found they couldn't prove the "defendant was not justified in his use of deadly physical force."
Bragg and his office had faced widespread backlash after Alba was swiftly charged with fatally stabbing 35-year-old violent ex-con, Austin Simon, who had attacked him inside the bodega on July 1.
The decision to drop the second-degree murder charge comes weeks after The Post highlighted Alba's plight, which saw the hard-working bodega clerk initially holed up at Rikers Island on a whopping $250,000 bond.
"If it weren't for the NY Post. Mr Alba would still be in jail," said Frank Garcia, chairman of the National Association of Latino state Chambers of Commerce.

Glad murder charges were dropped against Jose Alba -- but they never should have existed in the first place. Apparently Bragg felt the girlfriend who repeatedly stabbed Alba is in the clear. Justice is a joke in NY.

So is GoFundMe:

It occurs to me that social media censorship and vindictive discrimination could be substantially cured by a law mandating clear disclosure of bias. GoFundMe, Twitter, Google, YouTube, FaceBook, etc., could discriminate under this hypothetical law -- but only if they clearly state, for example, that antifa is permitted to organize on their platforms, but Christian groups are not. They have to be clear about what their biases are. They cannot be vague about it.

Otherwise, the people they discriminate against have a cause of action against them and can sue them for failure to abide by contractual terms (those offered generally to the public).

I was reading about the Avro Lancaster recently. They solved the problem of the under-plane gun differently than on the B-17. The gunner was in a normal sitting position inside the aircraft, and looked outside using a periscope.

I don't know the relative effectiveness of the two approaches, but I'd definitely prefer to be inside the plane.

The optics would get coated in mud so the gunner would not see anything. Or because of the way it was set-up, you needed to be a pinball wizard to hit anything.

Over 90 percent of Lancasters did not have the under-turret installed. Long story why most did not have them and why some squadrons eventually figured out they might be valuable.

Basically the gun sight was mounted to an armature that was in front of the gunner's face.

It depends on the office. 10 is fairly easy to get to. For most offices, you'd have a legislative director, a chief of staff, an office manager, scheduler, legislative aides (the staffers working on legislation), legislative correspondents
who basically reply to constituent letters, and staff assistants (front office greeters). The breakdown in numbers of LAs, LCs, and staff assistants varies by office. My take is they all just want more money, they know unions are perceived as positive by fellow members on the left, and this is a way to do it. Currently, each office handles its own budget and can choose independently what to pay each staffer. Unionizing would be a way to force offices to pay a specific salary.

Big population states have enormous personal office staff (Senate). Also, there is committee staff, most of that for the chairman and ranking member.

Back when I was up there it was called "the last plantation", as labor laws basically didn't exist - every position was a patronage/political appointment, in effect, so hire/fire at will. Not a bad system overall, of course, as society has learned to its detriment over the decades.

I believe some basic labor law rights were instituted 10-15 years ago.

But there's some basis to the idea that the elected members should have maximum discretion, restricting it of course can quickly be politicized.

I had a doctors appointment last week and they insisted I mask up when I signed in. I asked my doctor who made policy and he said it was corporate, and I realized what rubbed me so wrong about it.

These are people I go to for my health, and when I enter the office they are insisting I put a totem on because these professionals believe it wards off illnesses. We'd be able to quickly put these guys out of business or up for sale at firesale prices. Some of it does...mostly the crap they serve around tourist area. But there are some wonderful pizza joints that make incredible pizza. Unfortunately they are sometimes out of the way and always crowded.
