The Morning Report — 7/18/22

shakebooby.jpg

Good morning, kids. Start of a new week and I'm still in NYC. A SNAFU resulted in having to ditch our original moving company and scramble for a new one. So, if all goes to plan, we'll be on the road just one week late. Please G-d. Huge thanks to cobs Weird Dave, Buck Throckmorton, Mis Hum and CBD for filling in in my absence. Now, on to the meshugas, of which there is an abundance (as always) given the current state of the world.

Let's lead off with a deadly shooting at an Indiana mall yesterday that left two dead and three wounded. It could have been much, much worse except for the one thing that prevented that.

Even with the best will, training, and resources in the world, unless police are already on the scene when a shooting starts, there will be a lag time between the shooter’s control over the scene and the police’s arrival. The only thing that can change the dynamic during that interval before the police arrive is a legal gun owner willing to act. That’s what happened in Indianapolis, when a man started shooting in a shopping mall, killing three people and injuring two others, only to be stopped dead by an armed citizen.

As of this writing, a local Fox News affiliate has the most comprehensive report I’ve seen. According to that report, the shooting occurred in Greenwood, at the Greenwood Park Mall. A lone shooter entered the food court with a rifle and several filled magazines. He began to shoot into the mall, killing three people and injuring two others. Fortunately for all the other people in that mall, a 22-year-old man with a legal gun and a good eye killed the shooter. There is no news about the shooter’s identity or motive.

As this shooting demonstrates (again), the notion of making guns illegal is ludicrous. Guns, having emerged from Pandora’s Box, will never return. The only thing one can know with certainty is that, once law-abiding people are disarmed, only two kinds of people will still have guns: Individual bad guys...and the government. And speaking as a Jew, I know exactly what happens when only the government has guns, and it decides that certain people in the country are disfavored and need to be removed.

Bingo times infinity. Which is exactly the reason the latest degradation of our absolute Gd-given right of self defense passed in Congress, aided and abetted by the Leftist confederate stooges in the GOPe in the wake of the mass shooting massacre in Uvalde a few weeks back. Speaking of which, the official report has been released and it's not pretty.

The report, compiled by a Texas House Committee, detailed a series of missteps on a number of fronts — from the shooter’s family failing to identify warning signs to the school’s apparent habit of leaving doors unlocked or propped open — but the strongest condemnation was reserved for law enforcement officers who arrived on the scene and then waited to act for over an hour.

“They failed to prioritize saving the lives of innocent victims over their own safety,” the report read, openly criticizing law enforcement for failing to act in the face of a clear emergency — and making it clear that the biggest failure had not been in a lack of manpower or equipment but a lack of leadership and communication at a critical moment. . .

. . . While much of the heat in the wake of the shooting has been directed at local authorities — Uvalde school district officers and local sheriff’s deputies — the report indicated that the overwhelming majority of responders on the scene had been state police officers (91) and U.S. Border Patrol agents (149). The remainder were U.S. Marshals, federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) officers, and local authorities from neighboring counties.

So our betters in government — the enlightened elite who proclaim their intellectual and moral superiority gives them the right to lord over us "for our own good" — who insist only law enforcement should have firearms have created an environment that has degraded law enforcement to such an extent that literally hundreds of cops show up on scene and do nothing as children are massacred barely a few yards away from them. And this in perhaps the deepest of deep red states where the 2A is for the most part sacrosanct.

Either ACAB or they aren't. Which is it, Lefties? Even when firearms aren't even involved, it's in your face just who those in power deem are threats. Not to the citizenry but to their attainment and hold on absolute power.

Just recently, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg charged a bodega worker with murder for defending himself with a knife against an unprovoked attack by an ex-con that resulted in the assailant’s death. Meanwhile, the assailant’s girlfriend has escaped all charges whatsoever for stabbing the bodega worker because, prosecutors said, she was only trying to help her boyfriend fight back against the bodega worker. . .

. . . More dangerous criminals on the loose who are in possession of illegal guns make us less safe, not legal guns in the hands of law-abiding people. District Attorney Bragg would rather let dangerous criminals back on the streets where they can obtain illegal guns on the black market and continue jeopardizing public safety. But he does not hesitate to go after a crime victim for defending himself. . .

. . . Here is another example of progressive madness in New York’s criminal justice system that has turned New York City upside down. Two suspected Mexican drug-cartel smugglers were apprehended with their horde of $1.2 million worth of crystal meth while trying to make two drug deliveries. They were then promptly released with no cash bail requirement. That is because crystal meth is considered a controlled substance in New York, not a narcotic, and the charge of second-degree possession of a controlled substance carries no bail requirement under New York State’s progressive criminal-friendly bail “reform” law. . .

. . . Nevertheless, for some unexplained reason, New York City’s emergency management agency decided to put out a public service announcement on July 12th giving advice to New Yorkers about how to survive a nuclear attack. The agency advised New Yorkers to get inside a building, secure the doors and windows, and stay inside. Although hardly likely to protect New Yorkers against the devastation of a nuclear attack, staying off the streets is certainly one way to avoid dangerous encounters with violent criminals. Even staying inside, however, won’t protect New Yorkers against home invasions.

Most New Yorkers are not very worried about a nuclear attack these days. They are worried about surviving in the madhouse created by reckless progressive government policies that have caused violent crime to become the new normal.

Psaki-psircling back to the Indiana mall shooting, you see why this story is going to be buried if it can't be spun. When every second counts police are minutes away. In the case of Uvalde, they're actually right there waiting for the taxpayer funded ESU roach coach to deliver coffee, donuts and a CNN crew to do a Leni Riefenstahl shuffle on evil white boys with AR-15s. But when a responsible, armed citizen is doing the job today's American law enforcement can't or won't (which by the way has been the natural order of things since time immemorial), and doing it absolutely effectively, that cannot be allowed to stand. Even when firearms aren't even involved, as is the case with the bodega owner who had the gall to selfishly put his individual life above that of collective. He refused to be the broken egg from which the rotten omelet is allegedly made. And it never is.

I’m not smart enough to know how to fix the cops. But, I am smart enough to know that if the doors were locked, AS REQUIRED, all the children would be alive.

Same thing happened at Parkland. And, just like Parkland, there will be zero consequences for the dumb asses who refused to lock the doors.

FBI-led military shooters were secretly deployed in Washington and were ready to shoot MAGA types on January 6. Combined with FBI-led entry to the Capital and suspected FBI-planted pipe bombs it is hard to escape conclusion we nearly saw an FBI coup.

22 One thing about the Uvalde report is that the school has had several lockdowns due to illegals being chased, crashing near the school, and making a run for it. Now, the report says that made people complacent. However, these were not false alarms. There were actually dangerous individuals in the area. That the school and cops were not better prepared is the problem. Meanwhile, the rest of the report does the "no individual" crud.

I agree Biden is unfit, but I go back and forth on the question of finishing his term or not, the reason being I don't think Demofascists want Kamala as their 2024 candidate. Giving her incumbancy makes primary challenges a little less likely, and I think the party recognizes the desperate need for some sort of legitimate popular support, and a candidate triumphing in a contested primary is the best way to get that support.

My cousin "is safe" (her words) about covid - vaccine + booster, wears a mask (though not really when it's just family around), social distancing, etc., etc.

She caught "long covid" about 7 or 8 weeks ago. Just to get over the virus took about 10 or 12 days, and she's been dealing with after-affects since.

She, her husband, and their daughter came on vacation with us a few weeks ago to our family cabins in New Mexico.

They left a few days before we did - almost as soon as they got home we got a text - all 3 of them had covid, meaning my "safe" (jabbed and boosted, wears her mask) cousin had gotten covid twice in 6 weeks.

I, the mouth-breathing idiot who never "took covid seriously," refuses to wear a mask, and doesn't give a rip about social distancing (though, I'm an introvert - don't touch me) who also lived in a camper with his family while his wife and son both had covid - I have never had it, or if I have it was so mild I was over it in a day.

As far as I can see? Revenue generation, with repression of my liberty as a side-hustle.

I mean, it really is true that in a Just society, a cop's job would start once the crime is over. Cops should investigate crime, collect evidence for the furtherance of due process, and arrest criminals. That should really be it.

But in that *same* Just society, I would be able to be armed at all times, the social contract would understand that I - and potentially my host - am responsible for my safety and wellbeing - not the State - and I would be empowered and enabled to uphold that responsibility.

As it is, we have the first but not the second.

Now, yeah. COVID mutated from a nasty flu to a nasty cold to a basic cold. When Omicron was sweeping through like wildfire back in January, I got it (per the at-home test), as did both of my parents.

My dad was laid up for three days with high fever, body pain, loss of appetite, etc. - classic flu symptoms, followed by some brain fog for a couple of days. I had no fever but did have severe congestion for three days along with a screwed up sense of taste and smell and foggy brain for about four or five days total. My mom had the sniffles for a day or two.

----
Don't forget their "warrior mindset," all while using erroneously using the term "civilian" colloquially so often, that they actually got the dictionary to change the definition to include police (US Title 10 and Geneva Convention make it clear the even reserve military are civilians, defining ONLY ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY as the ONLY people who are NOT civilians).... Police can quit when they want ..not show up...call in sick... Not act in the line of duty and a TROvE of other shenanigans....that people who are NOT civilians...cannot.

So there's that.

Yep. It'll never be safe enough for them, because safety was never the issue in the first place. For most, it was virtue signaling ("see, I'm a good person!"), for the rest, it was about control - from Karen reminding you that you *had* to wear a mask to Politicians taking sick, orgasmic pleasure in controlling the most minor details of their so-called "constituents" lives.

But now that COVID has done what all diseases do - become more contagious and less dangerous - it's very, very hard for them to keep coming back to the well.

Right. It's absurd. They're really trying, though.

But they will learn an old lesson passed down through fables for generations, specifically "The Boy Who Cried Wolf." Assume there actually *is* some new horrible disease spreading and that poses high general risk. Who will believe them? At least half the people will just roll their eyes and ignore it from now on. If some big new plague actually does surface, it will be made worse because of their prior lies.

But fables and folklore were all written by unsophisticated rubes who didn't know anything, and all of that dross can be safely ignored...

Democrats had a lot of help from Republicans, including from Trump. We cannot do what we did during the COVID response - the shutdowns, the helicopter drops of free money, etc. - without consequence. And the Republicans were also more than happy to double down during the election period, especially in Georgia where it was outright vote-buying. "Vote for me and get another check from Uncle Sugar."

In those first six weeks of disastrous policy, I am willing to give both sides a pass. It was an unknown disease and they over-reacted. Okay. That sucks, but I can at least rationalize it. After about Easter of 2020, though, continuing it was unforgivable and continuing it was a team effort.

Free money is free money and it's dangerous, though. When the free money was highly limited (the Fed's QE series), the inflation was also limited (in that case, to the equity, bond and other debt markets). The more widespread, the less controllable. The bigger the scale, the less controllable. COVID free money was both large scale and widespread and essentially uncontrolled. We actually might have better outcomes today if they had just distributed a trillion bucks to their pals in the Fortune 1000, but they had to mask that with another couple trillion bucks launched out of a cannon like grapeshot.

The linkage of farmers' grievances with "great replacement" and other conspiracies was "quite clever," said investigative journalist Allart van der Woude, of the Dutch public radio show Argos. "It manages to combine a whole host of anxieties that are prevalent on the right." ... "One shared consequence of this, though," van der Woude continued, "is that it's become an incredibly aggressive discussion with a huge potential for violence." In 2020, the country's National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism published a threat assessment warning that the farmer protest movement was uniting groups with different grievances but shared antipathy to government, whose alliance could represent a troubling pathway toward radicalization.

Though there have been externalities associated with the government response to the COVID-19 outbreak and pandemic, the positive effects on GDP cannot be ignored. Not can the COVID response not be ignored or "taken out" from analysis, it shouldn't be even if it were possible. Government spending is highly accretive to GDP and beyond that, government spending is highly efficient and moves at higher velocity thanks to the multiplier effect. If the economy is now entering into recession, this recession would be more severe without the government response and the associated multiplier.

This has been a huge problem with the Right. To make it simple; when was the last time that ANY big story was broken by any of our major right-leaning publications? If you just look at NR, the single most memorable article in the last 50 years was the Never Trump issue. Forget about the Weakly Standard and the others; none of them ever broke a story. BTW, has FOX ever broken a story? We have a lot of opinion bloviators, but no reporters. Looks like the republicans will take both houses of Congress in the fall; but the rad left will continue to control the Executive branch until 2024, absent something like a true military coup. (which I don't seen happening) SO, the Fed govm't is going to decay into chaos and infighting in the face of crisis for at least 2 full years. Hope you are in a state where your state government can provide some stability, because in many places there will be anarchy and chaos.

Way too late to avoid those outcomes now.

police sergeant suffered corneal damage after a laser beam was shined into their eyes while responding to a car gathering in Canton over the weekend, according to the Baltimore police union. ... Mancuso said responding officers were hit with bottles and rocks, along with the laser allegedly utilized by someone in the crowd. No further injuries were reported.

Widely available lasers could seriously damage the eyes, according to a study by Johns Hopkins Medicine. Researchers found that some high-power lasers "can damage the retina by shooting a powerful light current into the eye that penetrates the organ's deepest layers in fractions of a second."

So which is it? Corneal damage or retinal damage? If corneal damage, then what did the laser - which causes retinal damage per the same article - have to do with it? Or was the corneal damage due to flying glass and debris (more likely)? Do the writers know the parts of the eye at all?

I hate journalists.

A good friend of mine recently told me that she had been very liberal in her 20s, but had a previous boyfriend open her eyes to conservatism. She's now married, homeschool mom and was visited by the FBI last year after having attended the January 6, 2021 Trump rally.

436 What extremely lazy, poor writing in The Federalist article. Which is a shame, because it was informative, unlike the media.

Go ahead. Try finding references to global protests at the BBC or CBC.

438 The only reason Biden hasn't gone out yet is the Dems haven't figured out how to blame Trump for it, or at least for something they are willing to stomach. But their stomachs are getting full of him!

439 Maybe this has been asked and answered already, but am I the only one who found it extremely strange that 400 law enforcement officers, from multiple branches of law enforcement, were called in to take care of one single school shooter?

When has that ever happened in the case of any other mass shooter in recent history?

And then not only were 400 officers on site, none of the 400 did a damn thing to stop the massacre once there.

Am I the only one who finds this extremely suspicious? Not ONE officer among 400 had any 'toxic masculinity' to say "fuck this, I'm not waiting, let's roll"? Not ONE?
