The Morning Report (7/14/22)

Morning Report intro.jpg

***

What traits stood out as Donald Trump was running for and serving as President? One trait that I admired was when he took a position he did not back down. Why is Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) so popular? One reason is he takes a position and stands his ground.

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. And don't back down, don't apologize.

Are the Twin Cities descending toward an unlivable state of chaos? And will the voters tolerate this complete absence of any civilized norms? Ask me in November.

This leads to another story. After the July 4 rampage, in which at least a dozen people were shot and many more were harassed and terrorized, new Minneapolis City Council member Michael Rainville tried to respond constructively:

[H]e said during a community meeting about public safety that he planned to talk to Somali elders and tell them “their children can no longer have that type of behavior.”

Big mistake! The roof fell on Rainville’s head, and he apologized abjectly–always a mistake:

That is a position we all must take.

Now onto news.

56 So some genius on the left actually thought that a ten year old being raped and impregnated by an illegal alien would be a good look?

Within their social and occupational network, having sex with children is always considered "winning the lottery".

They operate in an economy of trigger words. They are trying to make an argument against a caricature of what they feel their opponents will be emotionally set off on hearing. This is why they ALWAYS resort to "what if your young daughter got raped by an illegal alien | criminal | uncle"? They assume that you would do like they do and cowardly have someone else "get rid of the problem".

So since they can't say it is your daughter, they bump up the shock value (in a world of overused hyperbole and superlatives) by lowering the age. And using illegal alien since you are supposed to hate brown people.

I recently found out that - through a DNA test my sister had performed - I could be a carrier of a gene that could effect a child of mine and lead to debilitating consequences including retardation, death, cystic fibrosis, and/or a host of other nasty things. Now both of my children were fine, but it made me question my own morality in the face of current technology which could detect any of these diseases while still in the womb.

I can't say I would, nor can I say I wouldn't. The issue of abortion isn't going away, but I can see why the Supreme Court got tired of it and handed it back to the states.

    88 Saint of the Day
St. Kateri Tekakwitha (1656-1680), was born in present-day New York. Her father was a Mohawk chief, and her mother an Algonquin who had converted to the Christian faith. When Kateri was four, smallpox killed her entire family and left her partially blind and disfigured. She was raised by her uncle, who detested the Christians. As she grew, Kateri longed for the Catholic faith of her mother, and was very drawn to the missionaries evangelizing near her village. At the age of twenty she was baptized with the name Catherine ("Kateri") after St. Catherine of Siena. Her uncle opposed her conversion to Christianity, and as a result she was ostracized by her people and treated harshly. When it was clear that her life was in danger, a priest helped her flee to a Jesuit mission in Montreal, a journey of over 200 miles alone and on foot. There she lived a solitary life of prayer and penance. She was known as a miracle-worker. Kateri died of illness at the age of twenty-four. She was canonized in 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI. Kateri is the patron saint of environmentalists, orphans, exiles, and those who are ridiculed for their piety.

Exactly what policy are they promoting that isn't another form of cancer? Is their demand to wipe out the energy, food, medical and technical economy going to do the exact opposite and produce human flourishing?

Surely by spending even more money to stimulate continued double digit inflation while plunging into a full throated depression will surely make things better. Maybe another lockdown and mass firing of able bodied workers will bring about that kick in the economy that will get everything all humming again.

OK, fair enough. But they are just coming off about 60 years of propaganda telling everybody all those things don't matter.

Further, and this is no small matter, the latest propaganda seems to be that those character traits are the hallmark of white supremacy.

    Draught and feed prices.

The draught means its harder to send the herd out to graze, and feed prices (which are double-whammied by the draught and the general suckiness of the economy) make it uneconomical to raise the cattle.

155 Part of the cost of feeding the herds of beef is the cost of fertilizer for the fields that are used for hay. Grazing or cutting to store hay for the winter months. Neighboring rancher sets aside $60,000/year for fertilizer. This year that bought him 1/2 of what he purchased in the past.
Last year due to high temps and little rain the cost of hay went up and this year there may be less hay to sell. Don't think those costs will go down.

There's also the truth that Russia and England both eventually learned - you can't have a single cohesive country that is spread so far apart and has so many different cultures.

Multiculturalism simply does not work. Even if every culture were morally equal (they're not), they are different enough that they can't really comingle like we try to force them to. As long as we maintained the idea of assimilation and accepted that the United States was (culturally) a western European, Christian nation, we could hold it together. Once the majority rejected that, they set us on a collision course for divorce.

And the sooner it happens, the less blood is likely to be shed.

263 Young women who declare they don’t want children have always faced pushback, but the US Supreme Court’s recent decision to overturn the landmark abortion decision Roe v. Wade, has forced Americans — and particularly women of childbearing age — to seriously consider how to manage their bodies as their reproductive rights and choices diminish.

Just one week after Roe was overturned, Google searches for female sterilization shot up, Newsweek reported.

    ++++
Besides the normal kind of MSM spin ("diminishing rights"), is this a bad thing? If restricting access to abortion results in more comprehensive "body management" (and, by extension though unsaid, "choice management"), is that actually a great negative? Don't stories such as these all belie the pro-abortion premise by acknowledging publicly that abortion is used as birth control and, given the scale of coverage, that abortion is primarily used as birth control?

I am frankly amazed at how many people in my own circle think that the overturning of Roe meant abortion was suddenly illegal in the United States. Reason I've-lost-count to homeschool your children.

I am, however, laughing my ass off at Progressive women who are suddenly discovering things like requiring the man they're with to be able to provide for a child, having the discipline necessary to stay in a monogamous committed relationship, and actually, you know, be a grown up.

If only we had an institution in our society the job of which was to, as best as possible, ensure that children were only conceived and reared by such committed, responsible couples. It would have to be restricted to a man-woman relationship, since it would be designed around concepts relating to child birth and rearing and the sacrifices necessary to go along with same. We could have these committed, responsible couples promise before society and on their religious faith to *remain* committed to each other and any children.

Of course, if we had a mass movement toward that, there'd be a lot less dependence on government, and we can't have that, now can we? Whereas with foraging, it's a win-win for the government caste: most people won't do it because they've been conditioned to think its weird and even if enough to shake the dependence model were to try they would quickly find out why we invented farms.

I've really started wondering about that. Not in this life, but the next. Knowing what we know now and how so much of our medicine (vaccines, drugs, etc.) is based on abortion, I think we might be.

I don't know the right path forward, but I think it involves lots of begging for forgiveness. The problem being the repentance part. If you know that vaccine was tested on an aborted baby's cells - and worse still is that the baby had to be tortured to produce the cells - how can you be repentant but still use the medicines?

I'm not directing this at you. This is just a thought exercise and something I struggle with.

No offense, but that is woefully myopic view of sin and God's Holiness. Review Matthew 5. God doesn't stratify sin, certainly not the way we do so. In the case of abortion among the unwed, there was a whole lot of other sins that took place leading up to taking the life of the child. If we are responsible for abortion still existing, are we responsible for all of the pornea, lusts, fornications, coveting and lies leading up to it?

480 On the notion that abortion is involved with a lot of "modern" medicine, what are the major medical advanced of the last 50 years? LASIK. Plastic surgery arguably. But most other meds are a good deal older. The medical community does do all kinds of unethical research but I don't think much has flowed from it. So maybe be cautious about gene therapy treatments, but most things are from before the US had widespread abortion.

But - this sounds ideal. A given State that isn't wholly cucked, say Oklahoma, bans most abortions. Infanticide rates drop like a stone there. Then, their local Communist harlots carve out their poison wombs, pruning their own perfidious bloodlines, and extirpating their own names.

Plus, there are monthly fees for various other features that are built into the car. I really don't think selling subscriptions to use things you already purchased are a good business strategy. One comment I read hit it on the head - They are renting BMW owners the ability to shut down software that prevents them from using what they already bought.

606 On the notion that abortion is involved with a lot of "modern" medicine, what are the major medical advanced of the last 50 years? LASIK. Plastic surgery arguably. But most other meds are a good deal older. The medical community does do all kinds of unethical research but I don't think much has flowed from it. So maybe be cautious about gene therapy treatments, but most things are from before the US had widespread abortion.

The Vikings abandoned settlements in Greenland after 400 years or so. They abandoned their settlement in Newfoundland after 3 or 4 years.

But Iceland was uninhabited when the Vikings arrived, so they settled there & stayed put. The Vikings got there circa 1000 AD, so they're having a good run.
