I recently found out that - through a DNA test my sister had performed - I could be a carrier of a gene that could effect a child of mine and lead to debilitating consequences including retardation, death, cystic fibrosis, and/or a host of other nasty things. Now both of my children were fine, but it made me question my own morality in the face of current technology which could detect any of these diseases while still in the womb.

I can't say I would, nor can I say I wouldn't. The issue of abortion isn't going away, but I can see why the Supreme Court got tired of it and handed it back to the states.

I am frankly amazed at how many people in my own circle think that the overturning of Roe meant abortion was suddenly illegal in the United States. Reason I've-lost-count to homeschool your children.

I am, however, laughing my ass off at Progressive women who are suddenly discovering things like requiring the man they're with to be able to provide for a child, having the discipline necessary to stay in a monogamous committed relationship, and actually, you know, be a grown up.

If only we had an institution in our society the job of which was to, as best as possible, ensure that children were only conceived and reared by such committed, responsible couples. It would have to be restricted to a man-woman relationship, since it would be designed around concepts relating to child birth and rearing and the sacrifices necessary to go along with same. We could have these committed, responsible couples promise before society and on their religious faith to *remain* committed to each other and any children.

I've really started wondering about that. Not in this life, but the next. Knowing what we know now and how so much of our medicine (vaccines, drugs, etc.) is based on abortion, I think we might be.

I don't know the right path forward, but I think it involves lots of begging for forgiveness. The problem being the repentance part. If you know that vaccine was tested on an aborted baby's cells - and worse still is that the baby had to be tortured to produce the cells - how can you be repentant but still use the medicines?

I'm not directing this at you. This is just a thought exercise and something I struggle with.

But most other meds are a good deal older. The medical community does do all kinds of unethical research but I don't think much has flowed from it. So maybe be cautious about gene therapy treatments, but most things are from before the US had widespread abortion.

The Vikings abandoned settlements in Greenland after 400 years or so. They abandoned their settlement in Newfoundland after 3 or 4 years.

But Iceland was uninhabited when the Vikings arrived, so they settled there & stayed put. The Vikings got there circa 1000 AD, so they're having a good run.
