The First Lady apologizes that her words conveyed anything but pure admiration and love for the Latino community.
A few odd things. For one, it lacks the "x" the left loves to attach to the Latino community in order to make the term more "inclusive." It's a term the majority of the Latino community expressly rejects, so I can't help but wonder if the lack of the "x" this time is the left's way of doing a small bit of damage control. Secondly, why didn't the First Lady say this herself? I feel like this was a message she could have delivered herself to a nearby reporter, yet she relegates this apology to a throwaway tweet by one of her underlings? That doesn't actually convey regret, it conveys annoyance or cowardice. Either way, it's not much of an apology.She had to send out a toady to apologize on her behalf because she was being roundly mocked for her Latinx Incluxion speech. (That was the name of the event, for real.) It was such an inapt speech that she even set up dull Marco Rubio for a strong slam:

Well, there was a hierarchy in Mexico, with the light-skinned on top.
Looking at my family tree, I found mulatos (mix with black blood), that miraculously over time became mestizos and finally "Mexicanos, no indio". What an amazing evolution. Doesn't change the color of my skin though. LOL

Back in the 90's I did a lot of typesetting. This one customer needed an English and Spanish version of a form. It was a good customer so I purchased some conversion software.
The proof came back with everything redlined out in the Spanish version. A couple hours of work for nothing. I suspect the Spanish are just a little sensitive about their language.

I've argued with people before about teacher pay. It's a point of doctrine that teachers get paid peanuts. If you challenge them, they might come up with some ridiculously low number like $20,000 per year. When you ask them to show their work, they'll point to some town of 400 people in the middle of Wyoming, and even there, the "teacher" making $20K is a part time assistant teacher.
While it's true that teachers often don't make as much as engineers, they make quite a bit more than most people think. Also, their pay scale is published. If you want to see how much they make, you can look it up. I know plenty of teachers here in WA who make low six figures. That's not shockingly high, but it's a lot higher than they want you to think.

I often contrast teacher salaries with military pay...and as a teacher you don't get shot at, unless I suppose you teach in a big blue shithole.
But also, it is presumed in my line of work that we can all teach each other - if one person takes a course he/she is often expected to teach the rest of us afterwards.

Portugal formed after English crusaders helped native Iberians chase the Muslims out of Portugal.
During the Reconquista era the Iberian peninsula coalesced into three main Christian powers - Portugal, Castile, and Aragon. The three fought and allied with each other at various time.
So it wasn't until Ferdinand and Isabella united Castile and Aragon that there was a Spain. They both spent a few generations after that fighting Muslims and colonizing the world before the Portuguese lost most of their nobility and joined Spain. They later fought a war to get Independence.
After that they allied with Britain and tried to stay out of European politics...which served them well more or less.
