Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant: Buck Shots [Friday 7/8/2022]Is Europe Heading Toward a “Versailles 1789” Moment? The farmer uprising in The Netherlands is starting to get some attention. It’s in response to their government’s “climate saving” requirement that livestock be eliminated and fertilizer use be slashed.
The European elite, in obedience to their apocalyptic climate religion, have reached a point where they have decided that commoners will just have to live without food and electricity if that’s what is necessary to please their angry climate God. Well then, how are the elite faring? They’re doing just fine. Remember the World Economic Forum just a few weeks ago in Davos, attended by the most fervent believers in the Sustainable Organic Church of the Carbon Apocalypse? They might think you shouldn’t be allowed to eat hamburger, but THEY were not going to be denied some gourmet beef.
Steakhouse Ochsen, which is famous for bringing punters slabs of meat on a hot stone, said that they were still as busy as usual.
But what about the super-rich? Don’t worry, the EU is looking out for their Davos buddies who still own yachts and fly private jets. EU Carbon Pricing Plan Has Special Exemption For Yachts [The Blaze – 01/14/2022] Corporate jets to escape EU’s ‘green’ aviation fuel tax [Irish Times – 7/13/2021] Europe is rapidly approaching a “Versailles in 1789” moment. The modern equivalents to King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette are patting themselves on the back for how they will save the planet by subjecting commoners to a cold, dark winter without food. They ought to start reading some history.
Yet Another reason to Revoke MLB’s Anti-Trust Exemption - Racism A Major League Baseball umpire is accusing the league of manipulating its umpire grading metrics, with a deliberate and racist intent to discriminate against minority umpires. I believe him. Angel Hernandez alleged in a legal filing with the Second Circuit Court of Appeals that Major League Baseball manipulated its internal umpiring metrics to disadvantage minorities, thereby excluding them from becoming crew chiefs. There is no doubt that Angel Hernandez is a bad umpire. He’s probably the most well-known umpire in MLB, because of his difficulty in getting calls right. But I don’t care. He has accused Major League Baseball of being racist and I believe him. Actions must be taken against the racist sports league. Remember back in 2021 when - based only on emotion and not facts - MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred yanked the All-Star game from Atlanta and moved it to Denver, just because his left-wing media pals told him that Georgia’s new voting laws were racist. Well guess what, Manfred and MLB are now accused of racism. And as a taxpayer I’m not going to countenance their racism. Congress needs to revoke the anti-trust privileges of Major League Baseball. MLB, unlike any other sports league, has a peculiar Congressional privilege – it has been granted exemption from anti-trust laws. Dating back about 100 years, MLB has been given the right to act as a monopoly, with the full blessing of the federal government. I don’t know about you, but I would not be OK with the KKK receiving anti-trust exemption from Congress. Why then should we be OK with Rob Manfred’s racist sports league having an anti-trust exemption? And just for fun, here is some video of Angel Hernandez at work.
Let’s head into the weekend with something that will give you Gen-X and older readers a smile.

No? The "Yellow Vest" protests in France made a lot of noise, but did much really change, long term? Same with the truckers in Canada over vaccine mandates. Eastern Europe is still fighting the spread of progressivism and globalism to some degree, but most of Western Europe is still too comfortable and soft to strongly resist. Only the UK, the oddball of the area, managed to break free to any noticeable extent, and I think that was an unexpected and unforced error that globalist technocrats will not allow to occur again. Extremely skeptical that Euros (western) will "revolt" in any meaningful way. More likely, clownish backtracking and other attempts to mitigate the impact of the "climate" vandalism (re-opening coal plants, exempting things slated to be shut down, even retarded bizarre schemes as in the UK like paying people to go off-line with electricity needs during peak hours).
Revolts, collapses, and "elites" are becoming the sole focus of discussion, and it's increasingly silly. The boring but relevant issues of mass passivity and mass delusion, and collapsed institutions and standards, which alone enable all of the vandalism are the actual point. EU's a different critter, a truly unrepresentative authoritarian multinational leviathan, but even there, Brexit (or the mini-revolts by select east European members over mass migration, which essentially succeeded) is an option - if the people will f***ing do something about their lives. Marie Antoinette was a silly young girl when she married Louis. She was Austrian and she and Louis had no idea how to have sex, so there was no heir for years. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at July 08, 2022 11:25 AM (/U27+) ______________________________ Partially true. Marie and Louis were 14 and 15 and has known each other for all of two days when they were married. Louis wasn't sure about her, because she was Austrian, a traditional enemy of France, and Marie wasn't too happy to be so far away from home. Neither of them had been been told too much other than go make an heir, so it took them awhile to warm up to each other, and in the words of one of Louis's advisors, Louis was very "clumsy" and frustrated by the whole "consummation" thing.

They won't, and don't care. They feel they have so much technical, judicial, military and corporate power, they have no need to fear the people. They may be right.
They're wrong by definition, because their power lies totally in their ability to control the systems you just laid out. And when everything starts devolving, those very systems crumble. Which will leave our current elites with exactly jack shit. Because they have no inherent power. No personal ability to project power. Their one ability is their willingness to grasp power over a very complex, chaotic system. And that ability is largely aided by the fact that no sane man or woman wants it, so these maniacs get their wish by default. Let these systems start to fail, and it'll be off with their heads in no time. And they will be completely powerless to stop it. Clueless, even. Usually an image search for artist works yields images that have been posted and re-posted all over the web. So you're basically just getting what some rando, or some pyrsyn with an actual agenda, has decided is representative of the artist's work. It's important that we refer to the supposedly "green" agenda of the corporate state as the "corporate agenda." Because 1) it's not green (it can be easily proved that many of their wish-list items are actually worse for the environment than the alternative) and 2) it's being pushed by large corporations in order to destroy their smaller competitors and make it impossible for new entries to compete.
By calling what they're doing "green" you are conceding the first point (that what they want is good for the environment) and letting the true villains, the state and corporate actors conspiring to destroy the competition and enrich themselves, off the hook. "Unbelievable self-discipline among the Propaganda Press that this stuff isn't front page news."
Hardly. People as dumb, uneducated, incurious, unworldly, and besotted with idiotic ideas and frameworks as these require no discipline to pump out the crap they do. There's more spectacular - and real, and material - scandal in one day of the Clinton Obama or Biden administrations (or in the lawless behavior of national institutions during Trump's term) than in the previous 75 years of US history put together. About 1% makes "the news". The useless dumbed down unworldly incurious *electorate* that makes this all possible gets more dumbed down, more misinformed. Modern farming methods greatly limit nitrogen/ammonia (urea) run off using GPS and multiple soil tests. Farmers do not want to waste very expensive fertilizer. Much of the runoff issue is from manure which seems to be the greenies fertilizer of choice.
Pennsylvania for instance are limited in their use of manure near certain water sources that feed into the Chesapeake bay. Cow manure is not as bad as chicken manure. Posted by: mogsmash at July 08, 2022 12:04 PM (z+jkv) 363

OT: So much for Federal Express's vaunted delivery efficiency. I ordered some water filters for my Braun coffee maker, from a U.S. company, and arranged for them to go to my home. I did not know it would go via FedEx "Smart" Post. Twice they've tried to deliver and reported "incorrect address," but the address is right. They say they can't have the driver call me or put in any notes on the order unless the shipper gives them permission -- thanks to security restrictions the shipper put in place!
I called the shipper and sat on hold for 10 minutes. Finally I emailed them through their website. If they don't get back to me, I'm demanding my money back or opening a dispute with the credit card company. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius at July 08, 2022 12:08 PM (txdEq) 379

I'm confident of one thing, the basic level of technology available to the average man in twenty years will be something less than what is available today. We ARE going to regress. Here's the thing - since nobody wants to play along regarding what is driving all this, I guess I'll just talk to myself out loud - I think there is a collective gestalt that WANTS to regress. I think that's part of all this. I think we've hit a point where there is simply more going on that the average person can handle. They want less, but they don't know how to simply not partake. Communities near / in agricultural areas have issues with nitrogen fertilizers contaminating drinking water sources, primarily aquifers.
This has led to newborns having problems with oxygen uptake and thus "blue babies". The Spokane River Valley and the Willamette River Valley are two areas that come to mind. Sometimes rural farming communities get annexed into nearby cities and connected to city water and sewer (rural septic tank systems sometimes, also, contribute to nitrogen perking into aquifers) to solve the problem.
