Super Sounds of the 70s Cafe

eveninginpragueilhan1077.jfif
Evening in Prague,
Ilhan1077

Olga Korbut, Munich 1972.

Here's a man who knows how to handle watermelons.

Cartoon maestro.

Life imitates art imitates cat.

Dog wants to play; cat wants to re-enact The Exorcist.

Boogie Bird.

Adorable kitten wants belly rubs.

Bird couple supporting each other during stormy weather.

High-tech parking carousels in Japan.

Playing it off, dog edition.

Is it just me or has Marvel really let itself go?

I got you, brother.

The atlas butterfly earns its name. It's huge.

Just some cool friends hanging out.

This gang says, "This is our turf, dawg."

Stuff 70s people liked:

Top songs of the seventies, month by month.

Lost cereals of the 60s and 70s. There's an important one at 10:30.

Toys of the 1970s:

The 2XL -- a robot toy that faked artificial intelligence via 8-track tapes and scripted responses to push-button inputs.

2xltoy.jpg

Candy, snacks, and processed foods of the 70s. No fondue. Oh wait, here's the fondue. BTW, the next entry there is "earth shoes." I never knew what they were. I know Ralph Hinkley mentioned losing his "earth shoes" on the pilot of Greatest American Hero. I thought maybe he meant his earth shoes as opposed to his space booties.

Seventies home decor:

Not all bad governance in the world is due to the influence of one left-wing organization. Rajapaska could've made the decision to implement radical and sudden changes by the advice of others, or largely on his own initiative. His decisions seem kind of spontaneous with no plan on how to really execute and then he reverses course after setbacks.

When Donald Trump wondered whether it would be ‘George Washington next week’ and ‘Thomas Jefferson the week after,’ he was treated to haughty and dismissive dispatches in the mainstream press explaining why these Founders were more than just their proximity to slavery. These were valuable missives, but Trump wasn’t the right audience.

Fuck liberalistas!

206 >>> Not all bad governance in the world is due to the influence of one left-wing organization. Rajapaska could've made the decision to implement radical and sudden changes by the advice of others, or largely on his own initiative. His decisions seem kind of spontaneous with no plan on how to really execute and then he reverses course after setbacks.

True, but the actions here align very nicely with the openly stated goals of the WEF psychos. And making spontaneous decisions with no clue how to execute, and backing down a little bit so the rubes cool off, is pretty generic leftist behavior.

247 My parents bought our house in the '70s, so most of my childhood memories revolve around projects like 1) Mom sanding off all the orange sponge-painted fish from the cupboards and painting them white and 2) Dad using a snowscoop and a shovel to create a twisting, turning run from the driveway down to the lake so we have a blast riding waxed saucers.

I don't remember a lot of the commercials or TV from that time because we kids weren't allowed to watch a lot of TV. I remember Abbot & Costello movies, Bugs Bunny, and Johnny Quest. On a couple of occasions, I managed to see a bit of Hawaii Five-O while "getting a drink" before being sent back to bed. That is still one of the best intro songs ever IMO.

We didn't have a cafeteria or lunch room. We had to brown bag it but we did get subsidized milk from the school. 4 cents a half pint for white milk and 5 cents for chocolate. And the gym floor had folding cafeteria tables the janitor wheeled out from the sides for lunch and he put them away after we ate. It wasn't a very big school.

I suspect a fairly straight line can be drawn between telling private businesses / communities that they can't allow smoking on site and where we are today. I'm sure there were other things before it, but that's the one I remember understanding even as a young person.

Sure, now that smoking has been demonized and ostracized. I don't smoke cigarettes, but I'm guessing a pack here in NC, a place where tobacco for cigarettes is grown, is priced well above $5/per these days, which is absurd.

There's no reason for any restaurants to switch back to having smoking sections even if they had the barrel of the gun removed from their heads.

450 The smoking is fairly unimportant and could be anything. The freedom is what matters, and when it mattered Americans let their views on the matter - and how much freedom mattered - be known. Like I said earlier, we could probably draw a straight line from there to here. Especially the COVID lockdowns, MEAL Team Six, and permanently closing 40%+ of all mom and pop businesses nationwide because someone in NYC caught a cold.

If the population had instead said "You know government, it's not your business to tell store owners what they can and can't do on their property," we might be somewhere else today. Hopefully another timeline is. But hey, we have crossdressers in high office and P3do Peter in the White House, so we get what we asked for.

Tough shells do break and shatter on my plate,/And taco’s lease hath all too short a date;

And every bean from bean sometime declines,/By chance or nature’s changing gives me gas;
But thy eternal voting shall not fade,

Can't say that took place where I was. At least not the coaches handing out the candy.

I will say that I filched some Dexedrine from my mom's medicine cabinet prior to one swim meet.

Got up on the blocks for my race, buzzing like a downed powerline. My teammate jumped the gun, and I followed him into the water (no penalty for being the 2nd guy). As soon as I hit the water, every ounce of energy left my body.

Back on the blocks to re-start the race (100 Fly), gun sounds...off I go. Catch the wake coming out of the second turn, and again on the third...they fished me out of the deep end, damn near drowned.

Someone above mentioned he had retro & vintage hots for her.

I always thought her adult film star ranking & her disco singer ranking were exactly the same: 1.5 on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the best.

I saw her sing on some late night musical variety show once. Who among us can ever forget the immortal disco ballad, "Love to Love Ya, Baby"?

I recall that by way of introductory patter she said something about, "Gidget does a much-o, macho Martian!"

If one is into retro & vintage nostalgic lust, my top o' the charts candidates would be Annette Haven and Marilyn Chambers (altho I don't think Ms. Haven came to public attention until the '80s, IIRC).

I was a member of two, Iron Maiden's and Bruce Dickinson's official boards, and the people there were pretty great. People were there because they were *enthuiastic* about the bands and music. It was great. I've never said this here but I've felt that if Ace ever dumped ole Mu.nu I think going old school with something like UltimateBB would be a-okay.

Social media just encourages any fuckwad with a handful of braincells to run his idiot mouth. The only thing they're enthusiastic about is being raging assholes that deserve an asskicking.

Seldom did police call at Sill. Guess we were too busy. Maybe the FTB guys and the guys on profile took care of that.

At Ft. Sam in a was a nearly daily occurrence. But then I liked pre-dawn San Antonio. Best time of the day. But damn, apparently the cadre sergeants smoked like chimneys.

I did Fire Direction Control at Sill in 1965. They were tough on us. Supposedly held us to the same standard as the OCS guys. Told us the battery had to have upmost confidence in us.

I was a Maiden fan from nearly the get-go. Buddy and I pooled our dough to get their first two albums. We had to special order them through the local Gibson's store. Not a lot of metal heads in Wyoming at the time.

But when Bruce Dickinson came in, and we heard Number of the Beast, that was a whole 'nother level of kick your ass metal. Bruce is an icon. My first concert was Maiden in Phoenix, Somewhere in Time. \m/ \m/ Up the Irons!!

546 Social media just encourages any fuckwad . . .

I wish I had a link at hand: there's a great article about the group dynamics that occur when a hobby becomes sufficiently popular that it is effectively taken over from the hardcore enthusiasts by casuals and profiteers. I think a similar phenomenon occurred in blogs/online sites between roughly 2005 - 15. The democratization of the internet - from something nerds did to something everyone did - destroyed it.

If the DNC tries to use Joe's involvement in Hunter's shenanigans (monetary and you-know-what else) to lever Joe out of the White House or at least the 2024 campaign, Joe may say, "Be careful - I can take a lot of you down with me." Mexican standoff.

I would be fantastic if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.
