LOL: EU Parliament Declares Investments in Nuclear and Natural Gas Energy To Be "Green"

Thus always communism. Put society into chaos and misery with your ludicrous Five Year Plans, then begin redefining words to claim it's all succeeded as planned.

BRUSSELS, July 6 (Reuters) - The European Parliament on Wednesday backed EU rules labelling investments in gas and nuclear power plants as climate-friendly, throwing out an attempt to block the law that has exposed deep rifts between countries over how to fight climate change.

The vote paves the way for the European Union proposal to pass into law, unless 20 of the bloc's 27 member states decide to oppose the move, which is seen as very unlikely.

The new rules will add gas and nuclear power plants to the EU "taxonomy" rulebook from 2023, enabling investors to label and market investments in them as green.

...

Lawmakers also disagree on how the law will impact financial markets, with some warning that gas and nuclear projects could face higher capital costs if they are denied "green" status.

Others suggest the taxonomy's political symbolism far outweighs the impact it will have on investors, since the law does not prohibit investments in activities without the green label.

Thanks to Comrade Flounder.

12 Nuclear energy is in fact quite green. Zero carbon emissions. Great baseload power that is scaleable and rampable, unlike the idiotic wind and solar. Unlike past designs, new nukes are intrinsically safe. Yes, there is the waste, but there is far more waste generated by solar and wind, especially as wind turbine blades are retired (they are not recyclable and they are quite toxin in landfills). I'm all for nukes, with NG used as peaking power when needed

Posted by: Mookie at July 06, 2022 05:17 PM (u+Y3T)

13 Nuclear power IS green by the common use/understanding of the term.

87 Coal is also carbon neutral ... I mean, carbon does not get destroyed. And if that carbon becomes CO2 ... hurray, less chance of a freezing barren planet. More "plant food", arid areas turn green.

I think higher CO2 makes for a more efficient process, so stomata don't have to open so much to get the CO2 they need, hence they lose less water, plants can grow better in arid places. probably other benefits as well.

108 A major driver behind Kyoto - the start of it all - was to hobble the US economy (which was gangbusters at the time,) and agreed by all the factions for different reasons.

French were on board because they were heavy on nukes.
UK was on board because they had been transitioning from coal to North Sea gas
Germany was on board because it was shuttering the East inefficient factories
etc.

But the greens were never happy with nukes or gas, even though they were the ones that brought them to the party. They paid for the party. They were the party.

So this is just an adjustment back to first principles of hobbling the US

109 Someone tell governor Hochul of NYS. She and Cuomo want to ban the use of NG in about 10 years. Nuclear plants are old and nothing new is replacing them. So they will have to be decommissioned also. Poor home owners are left with squirrels in a cage to heat the homes. My gas fireplace will be outlawed in about 10 years, and it gets cold in this state.

253 12 Nuclear energy is in fact quite green.

They were also - get this - very much against illegal migration, reasoning that millions of illegal aliens or additional pressures on infrastructure would create more pollution, more roads, more resource extraction etc.

However their big money donors made it clear in no uncertain terms these are not acceptable viewpoints. Sierra Club never mentioned any of these things ever again, as far as I know. Maybe, but at any rate that's how you tell it's All Bullshit.

If a 20 year old is given hours on end to amuse himself and can still produce enough for an employer to get paid enough to amuse himself those hours - there will be more trouble produced to outweigh his productive good.

It's the net negative effect of technology productivity.

2. Ice Ages suck. Where I'm at was covered in ice about a mile thick just 11,000 years ago. In geological terms, just a blink of the eye. There's a reason North America was practically empty for thousands of years, while the rest of the world was having whole civilizations rise and fall for centuries.

3. North America is basically the Saudi Arabia of Coal. Hundreds of years worth, providing good careers, keeping the revenue and tax dollars circulating in America. I saw this "slitting our own throat" stuff 30 years ago. It never made sense then and it doesn't make sense now, unless one is purposely trying to cripple your economy, and modern way of life.

After the 80s, Marxists figured out how to infiltrate and make use of corporations and utilities to fund their crusaders. This is but 1 of countless ways left cult cancer has spread. However their big money donors made it clear in no uncertain terms these are not acceptable viewpoints. Sierra Club never mentioned any of these things ever again, as far as I know. Maybe, but at any rate that's how you tell it's All Bullshit.
Posted by: Common Tater at July 06, 2022 05:54 PM (z/XCs)

The Sierra Club actually switched positions although it is more or less undeniable that a dramatic population increase will degrade the environment.

A $100 million dollar contributor named David Gelbuam in the mid-Nineties told the Board of Directors of Sierra that they not only would no longer oppose immigration, they would support open borders and mass amnesty. The Sierra BOD turned on a dime, purged from their materials all mention of population pressures on the environment, and actually claimed to always have been in favor of mass migration. Actual conservationists affiliated with the group were expelled and denounced.

This shit has been going on a long time. It is now reaching critical mass. While I don't know whether it is true, either, it would be perfectly in keeping with Bill Gates' greed and evil behavior to have bought off the Dutch parliament, for example.

Well that is how politics works. People elext someone and then they hate him a short while later. Bush Sr got 48M votes in 1988 and only 39m in 1992. Using the “81 million” argument I guess Bush stole the 88 election because how cOuld he have possibly got that many votes and then a short while later 10m decided they didn’t like him?

So, if all of a sudden you're having issues with AoSHQ that updates about once every 5 years it's not this site. It's you, your mickey mouse phone/tablet/PC/Apple ad blocking, script blocking, whatever bullshit software you've got running in conjunction with whatever the ad makers have decided to change. And BTW, they didn't consult with you about those changes, or Pixy.

None of those steps were expected to do or will do much to slow the gun violence plague, dramatically lower prices at the pump or bring back abortion rights in states where the procedure is being outlawed.
