Madonna--an erotic nude floating inside a blood-red border full of wiggling spermatozoa and, at the lower left, a ghoulish fetus--is one of the most provocative images in Munch's intensely psychological oeuvre. This is an interesting painting. Madonna means "My Lady" is is a title most commonly used for the Virgin Mary. The red shape behind the figure resembles a halo, but it is a vivid red, rather than the sacred gold band of religious art. Red is a very carnal color. That combined with the seductive pose turns the title upside-down. Madonna is not the demur, pure, obedient, virginal Mother of God. She is the exact opposite. I also like how the face is rendered. It's angle and lighting put the eyes into deep shadow and tilt the nose up. To me, this looks like a skull. This woman is beautiful poison.

Interesting possible interpretation of the Madonna. Instead of the usual meek, loving, fully clothed figure he shows a very human, sensuous woman. Is this the vessel of God, very human? Or does it have nothing to do with Christ and God but shows a siren-like allure (temptation?) and danger of womankind? The red halo instead of gold, seems to point to sexual matters, not religious. Or maybe it's intended to be ambiguous. Is Munch teasing the viewer the way the figure teases men? Hmmm.

We really are moving into new levels of insanity when the IEEE has gone woke.
Helpful Hint - every "professional organization" is a money making scam, led by those who recognized it as such and want their cut. I've seen this too many times. Well it looks like the wheels are in motion for the release of Brittney Griner. Now that she's plead guilty and the trial is about to wrap up, Putin is going to put the screws to Biden for concessions and/or a lopsided prisoner swap.

Giving the medal of honor to Rapinoe is just tit-for-tat.
Posted by: BourbonChicken at July 07, 2022 10:12 AM (44ww/) This is outright disgusting and Biden should be impeached JUST for THAT. Rapinoe is an anti-American cuntbag that has NO business anywhere NEAR an honor so distinguished as that. Neither does Tiger Woods and I thought it was a disgrace that Trump gave one to him. It incredibly diminishes the worth of the medal. Posted by: Sponge - F*ck Joe Biden at July 07, 2022 10:54 AM (Zz0t1) 378
