Interesting and funny -- but mostly just interesting -- minidocumentary about the majestic beaver from zefrank.

Dog teaches you all how to play with yourselves. I call him, "Redundant Dog."

Duck AMSR.

Cats, the tool-using animal...

The treat thief.

I wonder if Cerberus had this problem.

Berserker kitty.

Crew tug-of-war.

Smart dog and water-conscious, too.

Who dares, swims.

Dog family photo.

You know how Indian trains are always overstuffed? Well check this out. The joke caption says, "After almost 2 years of house arrest, you can now enjoy life to the fullest again with the #9EuroTicket ."

Reason for claim: "A horse rubbed its itchy ass all over my car until it broke."

Man flies dogs from shelters to their foster homes at his own expense. At the end, he mentions having flown a bat (a bat, Duncanthrax) to a foster home. No pictures, though.

Fun: Side by side comparison of Airplane! and the lame telemovie it was based on, Zero Hour. You may have seen these comparisons before; this one intercuts dialogue between the two movies to show that yes, they are basically the same script. One's just 25% sillier.

Raimi fan. The "Sam Raimi" moments (usually horror tropes) almost seem like self parody. There is zero chemistry between Doctor Strange and his protoge America Chavez. The actress is so toxically bad she ruins ever scene she's in. So a mixed bag.

21 Train disasters?

Look up the Balvano Italy train disaster. 2-3 March 1944 a passenger train going through a mountain tunnel stalled. Around 500 people died of carbon monoxide suffocation because the train was burning some really bad coal, you know war was on and and the good stuff was used for other things. Plus the train was overloaded with illegal passengers. So it got stuck in the tunnel.

IIRC toward the end of their last suit against Harebrained (FASA's successor) and Piranha (the one who forced the issue), the court took a moment away from LOLGFing their bullshit to ponder whether Harmony's Robotech and Macross related IP claims had any merit either. So not too long after that they rightfully decided that maybe playing abusive absentee landlord isn't the best strategy and that being an importer they need to actually, you know, import some stuff from time to time.

---------
Actually it freed up all of the subsequent Macross anime and video games to be released in the USA. Nigh on forty years of stories suddenly could legally appear here. Better late than never I suppose. On the Battletech side I was glad to get all the "lawsuit mechs" re-released with the new edition of the game.

118 102 Yeah, the genius of Kraut engineering probably saw a WW2 Schwimmerwagen and thought it a pretty good idea, not knowing they were designed with a projected life of months, probably weeks. Also, DUKWs. They weren't really designed for long term use, just getting to the beach and fording a few rivers. Then somebody gets the idea to take a 70 year old piece of Army surplus and haul tourists around on a lake.

120 Super Dimensional Fortress Macross is an anime science fiction series that dates back 1982.

In the year 1999 a large alien spaceship crashes on earth and ignites the Unification War that rages for almost a decade. In 2009 a united Earth has finally repaired the alien ship and mastered much alien technology to include a space fighter that can transform from fighter mode or robot mode while also being able to fight in the air or in space.

2009 the Zentradi battle fleet arrives and the SDF-1 Macross has no choice but to fight. Here we meet the show's hero Hikaru who is a skilled stunt pilot. Now with his old friend and combat veteran Roy Fokker Hikaru becomes a Valkyrie pilot and starts to interact with a cute but immature idol singer named Minmei while coping with the often stern displeasure of a bridge officer named Misa Hayase.

Posted by: Anna Puma at July 01, 2022 08:17 PM (vjloV)

121 Macross is an 80s giant robot anime. They transform back and forth between giant robots and slick looking fighter jets which are usually loosely based on real world designs.

The heart of the shows usually follow a guy in love with two women...or sometimes two guts fighting over one woman. One of the women is always a pop singer. Music is almost always a major plot point.

We have a 10,000 year plan. Think about the significance of a 10,000 year plan. 10,000 years. A 10,000 year plan. That's a big plan. Right? Think about how big a 10,000 year plan is. We already know about the significance of the passage of time. It's significant. But think about the significance of the passage of 10,000 years -- and there's a plan involved. That's really, really significant. But that plan only happens after a phase called "today". Think about that. Think about that we have a 10,000 year plan and it starts with a phase called "today". And as I've said, every day is that time for us to continue to do what we have been doing, and will do, but now we will do it for 10,000 years, beginning today. That's the plan.

Not too much though, since the story is still the same and is rather flexible. The SF Writer H. Beam Piper had a story where an evil dictator uses a time machine to escape his enemies and flees back into the past to regroup. The head scientist sabotages the machine so the guy has only the tech in his head and comes back to present day (1950s). Somehow everyone he meets sickens and he flees, and he's alarmed that the low techs seem to be able to track him and eventually kill him.

Turns out the future has had atomic energy so long that they tolerate and are hugely radioactive. They eventually bury him and his stuff in a valley filled to the top with concrete, which was still there in the future but they had forgotten what it was for.

Mine isn't so much a drill as it is something to help faster shots and target acquisition. I shoot where there are steel plates and get permission to shoot rapidly (not stupidly), and pick out three patterns I want to strike, and a time I want to achieve. Shoot until I do it. I don't shoot the same pattern back to back, though, because that would give familiarity.

249 The Left is trying to promote the plan of putting abortion mills on Federal land and military bases.
First point is how are they going to fund these? Isn't there a congressional prohibition on using tax-payer funds to pay for abortions?
Second point, Federal land can always be taken back by the State - there is no constitutional basis for the Feds owning land except possibly for buildings in DC. (am I correct on this?)
Military bases can be closed. Yes I know they bring in money but ...... They can also be blockaded.

258 August, 2011, I put my big, ol' tomcat, Toonses, down because he had pancreatic cancer bad. Little Dorkie Dork, still feral (but now friendly) came over the back fence to see what was going on. Later that night, I brought her inside to live for the first time - she had a chip-activated cat door so it was always her choice - and after telling friends about Toonses, I got into bed just completely tore up. Little 7# Dorkie Dork climbs over me and curls up on my right upper arm in a "it'll be ok, I'm here now" sense. She was a fantastic companion for the next 8 years. That was not what I told the older, married, Chiefs and officers.

Grampie was a WWI vet and said he was hard of hearing from manning a turret in the Brit battleship he was transported to England in, they were shooting at U-boats. I suspect he also had hearing loss from teaching how to run a machine gun.

Per the one letter of his I have:

" My share of the actual fighting took place on the way across when I served on the crew of a six-inch gun on the huge ship "Aquitania." These big guns, of which there were several, were manned by seamen of the Royal British Navy, and when they called for volunteers to help I jumped at the chance, because I wanted to be on the gun deck and help sink a submarine. Nothing happened until we were one day out of Liverpool, England, and we had been met by a fleet of American destroyers. We fought off about three in one day, and my gun did all the effective shooting. so we were personally commended by the Captain of the ship."

Well, I'm just plain deaf in my right ear. VA has fixed me up with hearing aids...which are a mixed blessing, under the best of circumstances. In my case, the R. device transmits what it 'hears' to the the remains of my L. ear.

This can be a bit disorienting, as a loud noise off to the R., causes me instinctively to look to the left.

337 B-25 Mitchell Pilots & Co-Pilots suffered tremendous hearing losses. The propeller arc was just inches away from their ears. Not a few inches further forward, or further aft.

RIGHT THERE, cracking blade-tip anger directly into the cockpit through the thin plexiglass, and DIRECTLY in line with the ears.

Planes such as the P-38 Lightning, not so much, as those propeller arcs were way out there by the nose.

349 Zero Hour! was not a tele-movie. It was a 1957 theatrical release by Paramount. The original story was by Alex Hailey as a TV show called Flight into Danger. That story was later novelized as Runway Zero Eight. The Zucker brothers bought the rights to Zero Hour! and they acknowledge that Airplane! is based on the earlier movie. Zero Hour! is actually a pretty good movie with a solid cast. Sterling Hayden is especially good as the equivalent to Rex Kramer in Airplane!. The problem now is that it is impossible to watch the earlier movie without cracking up.

In honor of Dominion Day, here's some additional Canadian content. Not only is Zero Hour! set in Canada, but the actor who played the doctor in Airplane! was the brother of a former deputy Prime Minister of Canada, "Yukon" Eric Nielsen. That actor was the late great Leslie Nielsen.
