My neighbor and I have an agreement to use each other's wi-fi in an emergency, with a promise to use it only as long as necessary and to let each other know if we do so. I work at home, and since we have different provideers, it has come in handy a couple of times when my provider was down and hers wasn't. It's nice to have cool neighbors you can work things out with.
We first bonded as neighbors because I once complimented how well-mannered her dog was and it turned out she has an old, retired service dog with absolutely impeccable manners. He's a good, good doggeh.

Yep. Dad has a picture of him receiving an award (and a handshake) from Wehrner von Braun from 1964, I think. Dad worked at Goddard Space before moving to Houston and working for NASA.

I go for a 40 to 45 minute early evening walk, daily, in 98-100 heat index right now. At a place in Texas. About 50/50 sun/shade on my routes. It is bearable because I take a wet bandanna with me. Wet but not sopping wet. I don't wear it - I fold it up and carry it to wipe the sweat off my face and neck. I've found that wiping the salty sweat off my face and replacing it with a thin film of fresh water is much cooler than letting the sweat evaporate.

The bum thing is a weird up here. It's mostly natives who caused so much trouble in their villages, they were arrested and sent to Anchorage to go to court, and then the village won't let them return. We're talking about people who fought in the American Revolution. The victorious Continental Army had cannons at its disposal.
These cannons were not provided by the federal government, as such a body didn't really even exist at the time.
Those cannons were owned by private citizens.
The 2nd Amendment doesn't make an exception for cannons, so we have to presume that the Founding Fathers were okay with regular citizens owning cannons.
They knew about the cannons, and were okay with those, so I have to assume they'd be fine with assault rifles, too.

I wouldn't call the Girandoni air rifle a semi-auto. I'd call it a "sliding-block" repeater, that required manual action of the breechblock to reload.
And it sounds like the Puckle Gun was simply a repeating musket, worked like a revolver. Again, operator action required to place the next round under the hammer.
But your point still stands. Repeating firearms pre-existed the Second Amendment.

Well I just learned that very list is actually called "Biderman's Chart of Coercion" and it was developed in the 1970s to describe the different aspects of torture used to weaken the will of prisoners of war.
Another discussion of it mentions how it is used to "force compliance".

All the cannons used by the Continental Army that won the American Revolution were owned by private citizens.
Think about it. There was no real federal government at the time. The officials trying to function as a joint government of all the states couldn't even work out paying the troops. How could they supply the army with cannons if they couldn't figure out how to send them money? Those soldiers were completely on their own as far as equipment was concerned.

Yeah I haven't seen any yet. I'm not familiar with the surroundings of the new house yet. I don't see a lot of things I saw at the old house, which was only 5 miles down the road. I had chipmonks, but don't see any here. I had lots of birds, but not as many here. A good amount of squirrels, yet I only see 1 here, and I'm pretty sure its the same one I see. One groundhog, but I'm convinced that little fat bastard followed me from the old house. I haven't seen deer, or wild turkeys either. I was right next to a lake at the old house, so maybe the water had something to do with it.

What the US government was researching thru the captured scientists in the 50s (or was it the other way around) was how to create hypnotized or manchurian candidates, or double spies who would be unaware they are really playing for the other team. They did a lot of research into exotic drugs, and even into occult stuff, and summoning demons, mind control via electronic means, remote communication via radio frequencies.
The Russians did a lot of that stuff too. Some sort of debilitating spook shit going on at the a embassies, making people very ill. One symptom is bloody eyeballs. Maybe Slow Joe is being targeted?
Anyhoo, the array of forces and weapons and propaganda deployed against Americans (and the rest of the world) is way, way, way off the charts. None of this shit happens in a vacuum or is "grass roots". Anything grass roots will be crushed, or co-opted. Bank on it.

Neither of my grandmothers were born in the USA. Dad's mom was technically, but in Indian Territory, and mom's was born in Miklosland.
Should have asked about living in the depression. We have access to a little diary from grandma from daily life - parties and stuff in the 30s. It's not that long though. Also part of their travels from OK to CA for war work. Dad's mom didn't talk much about past times.

One thing that a good grasp of history, and supposedly "useless names, dates, and places" and "rote learning" gives one is a database of knowledge (in your own brain) by which to compare what somebody is trying to say, or sell, or persuade. You joke, but the A4/v2 used a gyroscope to control the angle and direction of the rocket by controlling graphite fins that would dip into the rocket exhaust.
The A4s were not made for long storage or shipping so the mechanical stuff would get stiff. If the problem was an aging gyro system it might have corrected itself, unfortunately the graphite vanes were delicate and would crack and lead to irregular erosion and erratic flights.
The Willy Ley book is fantastic by the way, i really suggest it

Me? I could not care less about either fossils or dinosaurs. When I was a kid in the mid 60s, the space race was the cool science to follow and read about. Fossils could not hold a candle to it.

Yes, my longtime best friend and college roommate is one. Thinks modern sporting rifles are too powerful and nobody needs that. Only licensed hunters with a tag for big game need / should be allowed to own shooting irons compatible with their game tag. Plinking rifles for everyone else.

We actually just mixed a fifth of Everclear with 4 cans of Hawaiian Punch, a 2 liter of Sprite, and then chucked in a bunch of limes, lemons and oranges in a big cooler and dipped it out by the cup.

I had a girlfriend who did that once when we were out in the woods drinking. Only problem is she stood next to the tree, pulled her pants down around her ankles, crouched and let go...into her pants.
Worked out though. She wanted to let's the pants dry a bit before putting them back on, and she was already naked from the waist down, so we managed to entertain ourselves while they dried.

It's eerie how soulless music is now
Its possible that it was a spook plot to mess with the public..but at least as far as "pop" music goes I think it stems from that most of the artistic leaders of grunge made themselves incapable of providing product in different ways. So the industry decided to promote music that was a product created by older record producers who could be relied on to make things to sell. After a decade or two of that combined with the kid obsession with computer stuff, there WEREN'T any more garage bands to come up with the next new thing any more. Actual rock became a niche thing like jazz and blues became. That's a large part of why catalog music outsells new music.

As a Boy Scout in eastern Virginia, I went camping a lot in water moccasin territory. I don't have a problem with snakes in general but water moccasins are a whole 'nother level of snake. They are not the live and let live, 'don't bother me and I won't bother you' kind of snake. They will actively chase you down. Water moccasins are very dangerous snakes, on a par with John Cornyn.

We heard a chopper flying low a little before 2AM, and I thought I heard sirens and radios. Wondered what it was, but didn't worry too much about it, other that why would a chopper be flying that low that light around here.
Turned it was some young fool in Maserati had wrecked, and they airlifted him to Greenville. He died around 4:30AM yesterday morning, according to what I was just reading.
Now, for the past month or so, I've been hearing some idiot driving like a maniac around. I never saw it, just heard the sound of someone driving way too fast.
I thought, someone is gonna get kill his fool self. Well, he did. He was 34. Still didn't have good sense.
It was on a stretch of road with curves. Only a fool would be driving like that on such a road.

This Maserati incident would be a perfect example of "death by misadventure". We don't have anything like that in the US, I don't think, but in the UK and other commonwealth countries, that's what this would be classified as.
This gets beyond a mere accident into doing something reckless and stupid. It's sort of the same principle between accidental death say caused by fault, involutary manslaughter on up to depraved hear murder.
Sort of involuntary suicide you might say.

From what I've seen, they are blocking traffic in LA (a truck ran over 2 of them), marching in DC, doing Seattle Antifa things in Seattle and they have the Arizona legislature trapped in their building with their presence. They are blockading the building while chanting, but I've seen no clips of violence there.

2 cans of Goya whole pink beans, 6 cloves of crushed garlic, a well-rounded half cup of finely minced onion, half a teaspoon of Better Than Chicken bouillon, half cup loosely packed chopped cilantro leaves and cracked black pepper. I cooked the onions and garlic 'til soft, added the beans and liquid, rinsing the can out for a little more liquid. Added the bouillon and cilantro and mashed until I got the right consistency, then kept stirring until I got it to the right thickness. It really tasted great and didn't look like the dog food-looking refried beans in a can.
