My neighbor and I have an agreement to use each other's wi-fi in an emergency, with a promise to use it only as long as necessary and to let each other know if we do so. I work at home, and since we have different provideers, it has come in handy a couple of times when my provider was down and hers wasn't. It's nice to have cool neighbors you can work things out with. We first bonded as neighbors because I once complimented how well-mannered her dog was and it turned out she has an old, retired service dog with absolutely impeccable manners. Asshole addicts (homeless by choice) lit a fire in town, burned over 10 acres. So, the city in its limited wisdom is cleaning out the addicts' camps and making them go camp in the city campground, and are cancelling citizens reservations for said campground.
WTF should a bunch of loser addicts take over a perfectly nice campground? They already trashed the arena here which they used for "covid care" for addicts. America (FDR really) imported a metric crapton of real live Communists before and during World War II. The Frankfurt School boys in particular are a rich source of the current Unpleasantness.
It's well known that a lot of (not an "ardent" Nazi wink wink) Nazi rocket scientists were imported to Huntsville, Alabama after the war. Operation Paperclip. A lot less well known, under this program thousands of chemical and biological warfare specialists were also imported, as well as folks who would best be described as mind control specialists. This is why the US government was dosing everybody with L.S.D. in the 50s and 60s and forming cults of various denominations, and researching electronic warfare. Directed energy weapons, microwaves, mind reading machines all sorts of wacky stuff. It reads like conspiracy stuff, but it isn't. Manchurian candidates, hypnosis, mind control, secret agents, all the spook stuff if you drill down, it explains a lot. Posted by: Common Tater at June 24, 2022 10:37 PM (jA/M2) 160

Now that I've had some beers, I'm going to watch one of the most depressing movies ever made, "Witchfinder General/The Conqueror Worm." It's great in its way, and Vincent Price shows that he was, indeed, a great actor. But wow does it make you feel like you should slash your wrists. How do the bums survive the winter?
Posted by: Semi-Literate Thug at June 24, 2022 10:30 PM (qOuMB) The bum thing is a weird up here. It's mostly natives who caused so much trouble in their villages, they were arrested and sent to Anchorage to go to court, and then the village won't let them return. So, they get drunk and act like assholes all over Anchorage. Natives don't metabolize alcohol so it is a nasty thing for them. Add to that the number of them who were born with fetal alcohol syndrome and you have a world of hurt. The white guys are mostly tweakers. The curse of Wasilla, essentially. Still waiting for the Native Corporations to step up and do something, but they figure whitey will pay for their miscreants and they'd rather not, so.... Some of them freeze to death but mostly the homeless non-profits find places for them to not freeze to death. It might be kinder to let them, honestly. So, when you visit the public library, be sure to see the drunken Natives humping on the nice expensive upholstered lounge chairs. One of 'em stabbed a woman in the back at the library randomly and left her in a wheelchair. Posted by: tcn in AK, Hail to the Thief at June 24, 2022 10:59 PM (LOVUx) 259

The granddaughter of a freed enslaved person, and the youngest by seven years of four children, Lorraine Vivian Hansberry 3rd was born on May 19, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois. Hansberry’s father was a successful real estate broker, and her mother was a schoolteacher.
Her parents contributed large sums of money to the NAACP and the Urban League. In 1938, Hansberry's family moved to a white neighborhood and was violently attacked by neighbors. They refused to move until a court ordered them to do so, and the case made it to the Supreme Court as Hansberry v. Lee, ruling restrictive covenants illegal. That was David McCallum, and he was very, very popular with the preteen and teeny bopper set. My sister was one of them. Posted by: Archimedes at June 24, 2022 11:08 PM (/NCI4) 289
That was some good new from the Supreme Court today!
Of course, the NeverTrumpers of Conservative, Inc. are trying to claim credit. Funny thing about that is, they didn't even WANT Roe v. Wade overturned. They wanted to campaign against it forever. With it overturned, Repugnicans can't campaign and raise funds on a nebulous promise to do something about it, someday, eventually, maybe (but only if you get enough of us into power) anymore. we shot bottle rockets at each other as kids. We did it in two man teams, one guy held a piece of pvc pipe and aimed it like a bazooka, the 2nd guy lit the bottle rocket and popped it in the back. You could really aim those things pretty effectively that way.

Funny thing about that argument that "the Founding Fathers never envisioned assault rifles, and certainly wouldn't have wanted regular citizens to own them"... We're talking about people who fought in the American Revolution. The victorious Continental Army had cannons at its disposal. These cannons were not provided by the federal government, as such a body didn't really even exist at the time. Those cannons were owned by private citizens. The 2nd Amendment doesn't make an exception for cannons, so we have to presume that the Founding Fathers were okay with regular citizens owning cannons. They knew about the cannons, and were okay with those, so I have to assume they'd be fine with assault rifles, too. Posted by: Prothonotary Warbler at June 24, 2022 11:34 PM (H3MF8) 360

Again, operator action required to place the next round under the hammer. But your point still stands. Repeating firearms pre-existed the Second Amendment. Regarding the "rocket car" story. I used to have bookmarked a site where a guy told the story (which he claimed to be unvarnished truth) about how he and his pals fitted a Jato unit to an old Chevy, and mounted it on the trucks of an old ore car, and launched it down the tracks of an abandoned mine railway. It was a great fun story to read, but I cannot find it now.

All the cannons used by the Continental Army that won the American Revolution were owned by private citizens. Think about it. There was no real federal government at the time. The officials trying to function as a joint government of all the states couldn't even work out paying the troops. How could they supply the army with cannons if they couldn't figure out how to send them money? Those soldiers were completely on their own as far as equipment was concerned. The brainwashing files I linked allude to that as well. The nazis found that traumatic experiences around age 3 are really important. Usually rape.
What the US government was researching thru the captured scientists in the 50s (or was it the other way around) was how to create hypnotized or manchurian candidates, or double spies who would be unaware they are really playing for the other team. They did a lot of research into exotic drugs, and even into occult stuff, and summoning demons, mind control via electronic means, remote communication via radio frequencies. The Russians did a lot of that stuff too. Some sort of debilitating spook shit going on at the a embassies, making people very ill. One symptom is bloody eyeballs. Maybe Slow Joe is being targeted? Rhetoric is the "art of persuasion".
One thing that a good grasp of history, and supposedly "useless names, dates, and places" and "rote learning" gives one is a database of knowledge (in your own brain) by which to compare what somebody is trying to say, or sell, or persuade. I'm convinced this is why they are dumbing everyone down. So they are completely unable to think, for themselves, or anyone else. Further, through clever manipulation they will try to make things always an "either/or" dichotomy or duality. Nothing in between. You must choose, and you're a "hater" if you don't choose whatever it is they want. I merely pointed out in class that Abortions are mandatory in Communist China (or were) and this fact was not well received. These are the dangers, and a well educated populace is better able to weigh the information. Remember force or coercion is the only thing left after persuasion They don't want you to know about that stuff. No fair peeking ahead, or something. One after action report I read mentioned the spurving bearings were misaligned with the panametric fan - leading to the loss of the rocket.
Posted by: Tonypete at June 25, 2022 12:07 AM (Msys3) You joke, but the A4/v2 used a gyroscope to control the angle and direction of the rocket by controlling graphite fins that would dip into the rocket exhaust. The A4s were not made for long storage or shipping so the mechanical stuff would get stiff. If the problem was an aging gyro system it might have corrected itself, unfortunately the graphite vanes were delicate and would crack and lead to irregular erosion and erratic flights. The Willy Ley book is fantastic by the way, i really suggest it Posted by: Kindltot at June 25, 2022 12:18 AM (xhaym) 449

I have the same problem with the change from BC/AD > BCE/CE as I do with chess notation going from PK4 > e4: Quit changing shit just to change shit. Having to keep changing a gazillion passwords is enough of a pain that we don't need useless pain.
I think all the computer/phone/program/societal updates/changes in our lives are alien mental stress tests to see if we are actually ready to know of their existence. Not to get admitted into the Intergalactic Federation of Fuckery, mind you, but just to know they exist. The actual admittance fee is much higher: We'll have to save the Congress and carbon monoxide gas the whales. Those protests are gonna be lit. Then the aliens will space jump home, shaking their multiple heads in sadness and/or disgust, or both, leaving us to our newest $6,000 iPhone model, with all the latest bells and whistles while we scream 'AAaargh!' in frustration. On their way out, the aliens will post 'Enter At Your Own Risk; No Intelligent Life' warning beacons on our little corner of the galaxy. Posted by: RickZ at June 25, 2022 01:13 AM (ldL4g) 544

Speaking of Pride Month, you know what just don't make any damn sense to me? When someone self-describes as "nonbinary and gay" or "nonbinary and trans." What does gay or trans even mean if you're nonbinary? Gay means, "There are two sexes, and I prefer the same sex." Trans means, "There are two sexes, and I identify as the opposite sex." Nonbinary means, "There are NOT only two sexes." How do you square that idea of of an "opposite sex" or a "same sex" if you don't believe there are two sexes? The main concern is perhaps what they did to you, and whether that means you are going to do it to other people. And genetics, there are links for mental issues and addictions. I have the letter a relative wrote to to the IRS in response to an audit in 1966 explaining that his spouse was listed as a dependent for 1965 as she did no work and as of the filing she was a patient at the state mental hospital. 387 379 Compare the top 40 from 1980 to 2022.
It's eerie how soulless music is now Its possible that it was a spook plot to mess with the public..but at least as far as "pop" music goes I think it stems from that most of the artistic leaders of grunge made themselves incapable of providing product in different ways. So the industry decided to promote music that was a product created by older record producers who could be relied on to make things to sell. After a decade or two of that combined with the kid obsession with computer stuff, there WEREN'T any more garage bands to come up with the next new thing any more. Actual rock became a niche thing like jazz and blues became. That's a large part of why catalog music outsells new music. Posted by: azjaeger at June 25, 2022 01:49 AM (3/XaG) 585

This Maserati incident would be a perfect example of "death by misadventure". We don't have anything like that in the US, I don't think, but in the UK and other commonwealth countries, that's what this would be classified as. This gets beyond a mere accident into doing something reckless and stupid. It's sort of the same principle between accidental death say caused by fault, involutary manslaughter on up to depraved hear murder. Sort of involuntary suicide you might say. There will always be Sodom and Gomorrah states like New York, California, Illinois and her beloved Massachusetts which will allow the barbarity to continue. I read something after this ruling. It was about how the Supreme Court is not supposed to represent the will of the People but rule on Constitutional matters only, calling balls and strikes and not making up the rules of the game. It was further stated that Congress is supposed to represent the will of the people. 1/2 Posted by: RickZ at June 25, 2022 03:12 AM (ldL4g) 657
What I found wrong with that is this: There is one major element missing. Originally, 3 co-equal branches: 1 executive, 1 legislative, 1 judicial. The legislative was the House, representing the People, and the Senate, representing the states; after all, we are The United States of America. But no longer are the States represented in our Federal leviathan. I have maintained for a while now the most serious harm caused to our Republic was the passage of the 17th Amendment. Just looking at the dysfunction in the 'world's greatest deliberative body', now made up of idiots like Blumenthal, Warren, Schumer, et.al., who basically stand no chance of ever being electorally unseated. But if legislatures or governors had the power to name senators, there is a strong potential for never having senators with 20, 30 or 40-year long 'careers' (with one party 'owning' that seat, like with Kennedy, Dirtbag-MA). If I had one wish Constitution-wise, it would be the repeal of the 17th Amendment as I feel it has led to the destruction of the Republic far more than any other change from the original parameters of our Government as outlined in the Constitution. 2/2

Yesterday, I made ground pork burritos. So I had to make some refried beans as a glue and ended up with the simplest, yet tastiest, refried beans I've ever made.
2 cans of Goya whole pink beans, 6 cloves of crushed garlic, a well-rounded half cup of finely minced onion, half a teaspoon of Better Than Chicken bouillon, half cup loosely packed chopped cilantro leaves and cracked black pepper. I cooked the onions and garlic 'til soft, added the beans and liquid, rinsing the can out for a little more liquid. Added the bouillon and cilantro and mashed until I got the right consistency, then kept stirring until I got it to the right thickness. It really tasted great and didn't look like the dog food-looking refried beans in a can. Posted by: RickZ at June 25, 2022 04:24 AM (ldL4g) 681
