Police Response to Uvalde Shooter Was Even Worse Than Thought: Cops Had All the Guns and Bullet Proof Shields They Needed, Could Have Killed Shooter in "Three Minutes;"
Didn't Even Try Opening the Door, WHICH WAS UNLOCKED THE WHOLE TIME

When danger is moments away, the cops are sitting outside waiting for "additional resources" and for keys they don't need for 70 minutes.

They say the bulletproof shields came within 19 minutes of the killer's entry into the school, but the Texas police commander says, in the video below the fold, that the killer could have been taken out "in three minutes." He means three minutes after the killer entered the building. In other words: You don't have to wait for bulletproof shields when children are bleeding out and there's a single shooter and you have a lot of men and weapons and you're also wearing body armor. Go in and take him down.

But they had to wait for those keys. For that locked door.

Which... wasn't locked.

Ooops! Guess someone should have checked that lock. (It apparently only locks from the outside, which is something that can probably be determined by visual inspection, identifying the type of lock it is.)

Note that they've been pushing this claim that the door was locked, and they had to wait to have the keys brought to them, for two months now.

Only now is it revealed: Nope, not locked. They just never bothered checking it.

BREAKING: Law enforcement confirms no one tried to open Uvalde classroom door, which they now know was never locked

Col. Steve McCraw (@TxDPS), the chief of the Texas Department of Public Safety, described the police response to last month's massacre at a Uvalde, Texas, elementary school as a "absurd failure," detailing how officers quickly entered the school and obtained protective shields...

...but still left defenseless children trapped inside with the gunman for more than an hour.

McCraw testified about the police response to the tragedy at a state Senate hearing.

Delays in responding by law enforcement have become the focus of federal, state, and local investigations.

"Obviously, not enough training was done in this situation, plain and simple. Because terrible decisions were made by the on-site commander," McCraw said of Pete Arredondo, the Uvalde school district police chief.

Eight minutes after the shooter entered the building, an officer reported that police had a "hooligan" crowbar that could be used to break down the classroom door, according to McCraw.

According to the witness, police brought the first ballistic shield into the building 19 minutes after the gunman entered.

Arredondo, according to McCraw, chose the lives of officers over the lives of children.

The public safety chief described to the committee a number of missed opportunities, communication breakdowns, and other errors, including:

-Arredondo was not carrying a radio.

-Only Border Patrol agents' radios worked inside the school; police and sheriff's radios did not.

-To coordinate their response, the police used incorrect diagrams of the school.

According to state police, the gunman entered the school through an exterior door propped open by a teacher, but McGraw stated that the door had been closed & could only be locked from the outside.

"There's no way for her to know the door is locked," McGraw said.

"He walked straight through."

Authorities have given contradictory and incorrect accounts of what occurred in the days and weeks following the shooting, sometimes withdrawing statements hours later.

But McCraw assured lawmakers: "Everything I've testified today is corroborated."

BREAKING: In the strongest terms possible, the head of the Texas state police has just condemned the law enforcement response in Uvalde, calling it an "abject failure and antithetical to everything we have learned over the past two decades."

Texas DPS Director Steve McCraw says teachers -- not law enforcement -- should be praised for their actions one month ago today. He said police had enough firepower and protection to act far faster than they did. Teachers worked quickly to lock the school down and save lives.

According to McCraw, the gunman was "moving toward a pathway to violence" in the months leading up to shooting and in some ways had "taken on the demeanor of a school shooter." He urged Texans to alert law enforcement of these types of suspicious activity.

DPS Director McCraw indicates that he believes video evidence in the case will ultimately be released. He said his agency has been asked by the Uvalde DA not to release information for now, pending conclusion of the investigation.

I wonder if the video will show cops picking the underwear out of their asses for seventy minutes.

They had at least one ballistic shield from the first moments of the siege:

The police chief who oversaw this grisly debacle is now a Uvalde city councilman.

Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District Police Chief Peter Arredondo, who is under intense scrutiny for being the one who reportedly coordinated the response to the Robb Elementary School shooting, has been sworn in as a city councilman, the Washington Examiner reported Tuesday night.

Arrendondo was elected by the voters of Uvalde, Texas, prior to the shooting, and other members of the council were also sworn in.

As RedState reported earlier, the Texas Department of Public Safety said earlier Tuesday that Arrendondo, in particular, and the city's police officials were no longer cooperating with state investigators. He made the decision to not confront the gunman, who killed 19 students and two teachers, right away and instead waited for backup. And according to the DPS, Arredondo believed the shooter had barricaded himself inside the school and that it was not an active shooter situation, NBC News reported.

YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHAT HAPPENED NEXT...

Are. You. Kidding. Me.

Well I guess he finally learned how to clear a room of hostiles, huh?

9 This never made any sense from the start. Fire departments know how to open doors.

Are they saying that if there was a fire it would take them over an hour to get in? And the Chief was always squishy in explaining how he tried to get in - his story never made sense.

Even worse, the Texas Tribune reports a Halligan bar was available within minutes of the first LEO response. It's a great big pry bar thing the firefighters use to break through or pry open doors. Even if the door was locked and they didn't have keys, they could have pried open the door.

Within the first minutes of the law enforcement response, an officer said the Halligan (a firefighting tool that is also sometimes spelled hooligan) was on site. It wasn’t brought into the school until an hour after the first officers entered the building. Authorities didn’t use it and instead waited for keys.

114 I think Ace conflated the outer door with the inner door.

Outer door - temporarily propped but reportedly closed by teacher when gunman arrived.
Above quote states that it can only be locked from outside, so was unlocked.

Inner, classroom door - status unknown. Police have claimed it was locked and they searched for keys. Police admitted they did not try keys on that door, but instead used keys on other classroom doors looking for "master key." Suspected unlocked since there is no mention of using keys when they finally went in.
Halligan Bar has never been mentioned in this story.

If they thought he had a roomful of kids but didn't realize he had shot them, I can see where they would want to proceed with caution, which does jibe with the reports that the lead officer thought it was a barricaded shooter situation.

Not only did Arredondo, the cowardly and incompetent police chief, not resign, but he apparently got a lawyer to threaten Uvalde after they announced they weren't going to swear him into his seat on the city council the day after the murders. After they made that announcement, the city quickly retreated and swore him in.

The scumbag apparently has no shame. Anybody with a conscience would have resigned from both positions, and spared the traumatized locals the painful spectacle of having to see his bloated, cowardly face ever again.

But no, he won't do even that little for them. This POS will be kicking and screaming and lying and deflecting every step of the way as the city moves to have him legally removed from his positions. The local taxpayers will probably have to spend millions to get this incompetent, cowardly, bloated piece of garbage out of office.

If the cops and the chief were convinced that they were not backed at all for any action and would be hung out to dry if they acted correctly and the perp they popped was the wrong place in the "stack", then yes, they had reason to be afraid of their superiors and the DA and random violence. They also had basis for quitting or going somewhere else.

---
The board-headedness that the left has with the "good guy with a gun" argument is a sight to see. It's like they don't understand implication.

But one of the issues is the way the drones "hear" the argument. If "a good guy with a gun" is any kind of "solution", then it is "perfect". So, when it fails to keep people from getting killed, it's not perfect, and so cannot be classified as a "solution".

Because of suicide, it is not the case that whenever a bad guy with a gun is stopped it takes a "good guy with a gun". But that's putting the extent of the killing in the bad guy with a gun's hands. And the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun before he kills all that he wants is a good guy with a gun, or an unarmed movie hero, who kills without a gun.

So, preferable to waiting for the BGWAG to stop killing, or hoping for the movie hero who you don't know even exists or is in the area, a GGWAG is the preferred, rational way to stop a BGWAG.

253 A new poll has revealed President Joe Biden’s approval rating fell to a new low amid expectations of economic recession. According to data collected by Civiqs, Biden’s job approval fell to 32 percent in June, which down from 34 percent in May. This marks its lowest level since the Democrat took office last year.

A whopping 57 percent of respondents said they do not approve of Biden’s job performance. In addition to this, the President’s net approval ratings are now negative in 48 states, which is up from 47 states last month with the exception of Hawaii and Vermont. Biden now has a national net approval rating of -25 and most respondents are concerned about his poor handling of the economy.

Maybe the Uvalde cops can establish a perimeter around FJBs poll numbers.

What I hope happens - and it could if the locals get organized and demand it - is the the Uvalde PD department should be completely abolished, everyone fired. Then, the County Sherriff's office should take over patrolling duties for the city of Uvalde and expand their manpower to do so. Uvalde is small enough that this is feasible. Anyone from the City PD who had no part in this can be rehired by the expanded Sherriff's Dep't.

"There's no way for her to know the door is locked," McGraw said."

It's not that broad. The ruling was that there is no Constitutional duty to protect. But the duties of the police are spelled out in the charters of the city or the municipality under which they operate. If their charter assigns them to be a protective force, such an assignment would not be repugnant to the Constitution, and they would be liable under their failure to perform an assigned duty.

But what has been driven into my thick skull with great force over the past decade or so is that they are just like any other group of humans you could name.

Some are great folks, salt of the earth types who will invariably do the right thing, no matter the circumstances. The others are horribly broken with no sense of morality, fair play, or decency.

It used to be easier to ID them.

Somebody pointed out to me that being in a line of work where you lead people into incredibly dangerous situations requires that the people following you, and the people next to you, and the people leading you, have your back and your full support. If you don't have that then no one follows and no one leads.

I am going to guess the Uvalde PD is a snake pit, which is a leadership issue from the top and the culture all the way down to the receptionist.
The fact that the first thing the chief did was get a lawyer to threaten the city council makes me guess the whole office was run that way.

________

No doubt some of them were thinking that, but the biggest problem here seems to have been the so-called chief Arredondo, who clearly had political ambitions (he'd already run for and won a seat on the Uvalde city council), and seems to have been doing as little as possible himself, while ordering the other cops to also do nothing.

Is Arredondo just a massive coward, a blithering incompetent, a politically-correct asshole who was fearful of shooting at anyone, lest he accidentally hit the wrong person and spoil his budding political career? Or is he some rotten combination of all three? I suppose we'll find out eventually, but I'm not sure anybody is going to care. Arredondo was clearly ludicrously unfit for the role he had taken on, and innocent kids are now dead because of it, and nothing is ever going to change that.

I don't give a damn how they feeeeeel because this ended up being their fault. If any off themselves then I won't shed a tear. Had they engaged and not ran off pissing themselves and wanting permission, or concocting some other stupid, cowardly excuse, then the number of little blown apart bodies could have been far less or closer to zero.

Maybe it was a lie that they engaged the perp at all, but as I recall, that's one part of the story here that they *were* shot at and exchanged fire early on - but instead of continuing to engage like they should have, they instead ran away with their cunts between their legs.

So now an entire classroom of kids are dead because these pussies disengaged, then stood around waiting for a real man to show up. Suicide would be too good for Uvalde PD, really

If their radios were too cheap or on the wrong sort of band* then it's entirely possible. BP's radios are acquired so they can be used over loooooong distances, and are likely over-powered for close-in work.

(* Think 5GHz wi-fi. It has all this extra bandwidth and such, but it sucks worse than 2.4GHz at getting through walls and cutting through radio interference. I only have about 35 feet for the signal to go, and I have to switch back to 2.4GHz when at the other end of my house from the wi-fi antenna or I can get almost zero signal. Wrong frequencies, and all those concrete blocks and metal framing and steel fire doors could swamp your radio.)
