When I was a kid in Wyoming we had a late June snowstorm just days before the Cody Stampede. 6 or so inches. But it was gone in less than two days.
July is the only month I have never seen snow. Well, in town. me and the missus took a drive over Cameron Pass and Rabbit Ears Pass a few years ago, and it had snowed. This was after Independence Day.

Then winter. I went with some friends in late February because flights then were cheap and we had enough of Michigan Gray Skies. A long weekend was nice - being younger then we drank too much, but that wasn't a problem because the place is so small we could walk nearly everywhere tourister-ish like the lighthouse, the fort, and so on.

I think the whole "23 and me" thing is a scam/ gimmick/ information harvesting operation. But people really love doing it. My wife loves that stuff looking into family history we've even stopped at a few records places when we're on road trips.
She wants to the same with my side and gets frustrated because a good bit of my family were dirt poor scotch-irish hillbillies that didn't keep records and didn't want no tax-man, law-man poking into their goings on. Also there were a lot of deaths, whole families wiped out, adoptions, child slavery, the sort of bad stuff that happened in the mid west in hard times that no one wants a record of. So no trail for me.

Our academic advisor at the small boy's college in the Rockies had been there for several years (including as a student) and told us he had personally seen it snow in every month except July, and it was on record as having snowed in July.

We did two things... we put my Sister on all the accounts... but also put the accounts into the family trust.... so if there was any problem it would devolve down the line of Trustees.
Still took 8 months to get the damn deed to the house...

That sounds like pretty damned good accuracy to me. Given the techniques, I doubt you'd get much better replication if you simply did the same sample twice.

Good friend of mine has three 16 y/o boys in this configuration. The twins are tall, gangly goofballs who are fairly unserious about school and sports and the single is short, stocky and very serious about school and baseball. It's fun to see them interact with each other as there are undercurrents of competition and closeness between the boys that shift on a daily basis. They are all three good kids.

Mike Hammer got me interested in something. He noted that the earliest sunrise and latest sunsets do not occur on the summer solstice. The earliest sunrise happens a few days before, and the latest sunset happens a few days after.
So I had to get into all the vagaries of the Earth's motion around Mr. Sun, which is the cause of it. Basically, the actual length of a solar day varies over the year in a complex pattern. Note this is not variation in daylight vs night, but the length of time between successive noons.
That varies over the course of a year from +30 to -18 secs from 24 hours.

They make (or maybe used to make) copper napthenate wood preservative. Anything that prevents rot tends to be toxic. You can also get polymers like PEG 1000 which can be infused into rotted wood to stabilize it and recoup some of its strength.

Well yeah, this is true. Nothing like getting to the S. Dakota border at around 12 midnight, and not seeing Sturgis until long after sunrise. Still though, a day trip on a bike isn't too bad, but 3-4 days? Yeah screw that, I wouldn't want to see the bike after that. Lately I've been looking for something a little more cruiser oriented. Yeah, we do actually. I had cataract surgery a few years ago, and my vision is better than it was in childhood. On my computer, your page renders in medium blue text on a very black background. It is hard for me to read, especially compared to this site, which is very easy on the eyes.

As for the color scheme, since the motif is space, the black is dominant.
As for the blue, the color palette on Blogger sucks the proverbial moose testes, and the lighter colors -- particularly the whites -- are so bright they weary the eye.

Man, you're not kidding. I used to tell the noobs that came to sturgis to pack 4 seasons of gear on their bikes, because anything can happen. They would look at me like I'm crazy. One time it was a really nice dry 90 degree day, no real clouds. I said pack some warm jackets and gloves. They didn't listen, "oh but its summer, look how warm, weeee" and that night when we left deadwood it was 38 degrees. One day alone we hit rain, hail, sun, cold. It got to be where when asked "hey when we doing mt rushmore?", I would say when we wake up, look to the south, east, west, and north, and the day there isn't a cloud as far as the eye can see in any direction, we're going. If there is one cloud, and i don't care where in the sky it is, it WILL find you at Mt Rushmore.

Working in the oilpatch, I got to see plenty of diamond drilling bits. You know what? They don't even look remotely like "diamonds". The cutters are made of of "polycrystalline diamond composite", and look like little dime-sized discs of black ceramic. On new ones, the edges are sharp; when they are worn out and come out of the hole, they still look almost new, but the corners are slightly rounded off the cutters. The wear is very subtle, but makes a huge difference in drilling rate.
And in soft rock like shale, those suckers can cut at over 100 meters an hour. As fast as the rig crew can put pipe in the ground.

Whoever designed the shelf removal system on this Frigidaire freezer needs to be shot. A little retaining clip keeps in from sliding all the way to one side, to allow removal from the other.
When it gets cold, that little clip doesn't want to spring open enough to get it off.

They're pretty cool. The only problem I see is where to get it worked on. Basically there isn't much support for them. Around here there seems to be nowhere, because I get calls, and none of the shops I work out of work on them. Other than that they're nice. No clue about reliability. I do like how the factory accessories seem to be thought out really well. There are 2 different bobbers, one has more horsepower than the other. I think the entry level one is the bobber 60, or something like that.

That is a major problem out there. Once again, I would tell the noobs start looking for gas when you hit half a tank, because you see these signs GAS, and the gas is not right off the highway, and in the wee hours that station is close even if you find it. It got hairy a few times going through S.Dakota in 12 midnight - 6am period the first time we went.

Well I'll tell you this, my total unvarnished professional opinion, since I see this shit every day. The worst, and most often repeated mistake are dudes buying a smaller bike to start with, because they think they need to start small and maybe some day they'll go to something bigger. The problem is, "some day" happens in 3-4 weeks when they out grow it faster than kids outgrow clothes, and realize they fucked up. It happens all the time. Mrs B rides a harley, and you can't give her a smaller bike for practically free. I just tried. Latest example, a bike I redid for a guy, a 100th anniversary 1200 sportster, it was beautiful. He decided to sell it a few weeks ago because he outgrew it fast. His son bought a softail, he rode it, and that was that. He was trying to sell it for $1800. I told Mrs B about it. She didn't want to hear it. Been there, done that, she don't want to get blown around on the road when a truck blows by. She would rather ride my softails that aren't set up for her than ever getting on a smaller bike again.

Re draining the hose. The old lady that ran a local country store actually ran some guy off who was draining the hose. He'd come in buy gas, then drain the hose after he had shut off the pump.
He did that several times before she got enough an ran him off, don't you ever come back here!

Note that hose drainer wasn't cheating her. He was cheating the next customer, who paid for filling up the hose. Unless that next guy drained the hose, he got shorted a hose full of gas.

Oh, I paid $4.89 for some non-ethanol gas a couple days ago, same price as premium. Regular was running $4.35ish today.
The hose remainder is why the non-ethanol requires its own hose and pump. It doesn't make much difference for the different octane grades, but it would for ethanol vs non-ethanol. You'd get some ethanol, a tiny bit if you mixed 'em in the hose.

I don't know for sure, but I think the modern handle valves with the automatic shut-offs require pressure on the inlet side to open.
If you put the spout in and hit it before the pump comes on, it just barely clicks. I don't think the valve opens without pressure. So you probably can't drain the hose, at least very efficiently.

Oh, another big one locally. Had a couple murdered in their house last Friday, just a few miles from me.
Turned out to be an irate contractor. They had hired this guy to do some job, and they weren't satisfied with it, and refused to pay the balance until he fixed it right.
Things escalated, and he shot 'em both dead. In their own house.
Monday, the Sheriff figured it out, and they went to arrest him. He blew his brains out when they knocked on the door, telling him they had a murder warrant.
I guess that's a pretty good admission of guilt. Most of the time.

It still boggles my mind how many Soviets died in The Great Patriotic War, both military and civilian. There being neo-Nazis in the Ukraine is one reason for Putin's invasion as the Russians really hate Nazis, worse than the Blues Brothers hated Illinois Nazis.

Not really. Commies considered themselves superior to everybody, but politically not racially. Germans, on the other hand, considered Slavs an inferior race, like the Jews. (If Germany and Japan had won, there would have been a dust up between those two 'allies' eventually because they were both racist societies.) It's one explanation for why Hitler didn't want to fight Great Britain; he thought they could be natural allies or at least neutral towards each other. But the Brits honored their treaty commitment to Poland. Then Hitler compounded his mistake by declaring war on the US after Pearl Harbor; we had no intention of declaring war on Germany in the short-term; long-term, probably, but Japan was up first.

She hates this new phone. Her old had a mode where it would continuously beep or buzz if there had a been a missed call or new text. This new just beeps once, and that's it.
I can't find that feature anywhere in this new one, and none of the other old flip phones I've messed with it had either. And then it's got a "Google" appy icon thing on it, which makes her mad just to look at.
This new one is an Alcatel GoFlip 4, if anyone knows anything. I can't find any "continuous alert" feature anywhere.

Search engine up Lake Furgeson in the Sequoia National Park, CA. I've stuffed fresh caught trout into snowbanks there, in August.
Helps though, that the lake lies exactly at timberline, and is a solid, three day hike up from the trailhead. Radical hike, with house-sized boulders to contend with when climbing down to, and up from the lake. Not a destination for those lacking in will.

True story, my maternal great-uncle, who lived to be just a few days short of his 101st birthday in 2001, met Einstein. He was done here and was buying a car for his son. That uncle was the shop foreman and the Cadillac dealership in Greenville.

That great-uncle, same first name as my father, went down pretty fast after his 100th birthday. His wife had died a few years before. He actually took care of her for several years when she got down. She went to a nursing home when it got pretty bad, and he couldn't manage it anymore.
And so there he was, alone. He went down fast, and we had him in a nursing home here in Simpsonville at the last. It worked out that I was the only one around when the day he died. Unexpected, just happened all of the sudden.
I got up there, my folks were out of town and everyone else was too.
I bore witness. That was one of the most profound experiences of my life to date.

My father may well make it close to that uncle. That uncle's mind was sharp until the near last, but my father's won't be.
But physically, he's maintaining status quo. He's got a doctor's appointment coming up, which I dread. They may try to get him vaxxed yet. It's going to be over my dead body. If they get that shit into him, he'll be dead in no time, few months top.

That's what I did with this uncle. He sort of considered my mother his own daughter -- long story. His wife had a rough childbirth way back when, long story there, but his wife nearly died, and couldn't attempt it after that.

Yep. I'm sure his wife, ol' Aunt Laura, escorted him out of there. It's time to go Home.
When I got my senses back, I noticed his eyes were still open. Dark eyes. I was sort of unsure, but I did it. I took my fore and middle finger of my right hand and closed his eyelids. I didn't know what to expect. They'd stayed closed.
I staggered out of the room. The head nurse was right there, waiting in the hall. I just nodded at here. She nodded back, came in, got her stethoscope out, and felt his wrist. She had a clipboard with her, and made a note. Time of Death.
She motioned her arm for us to leave the room. When we got out in the hall, she nodded down the hall at some "orderlies", male staff, who were also waiting near the nurse's station. She then went up the hall, closing doors. The orderlies, one pushing a stretcher, the other closing down on his way up, got the room.
The took his body out. Arrangements had been made per instruction, and the funeral home hearse was on the way.
They close the doors so the residents won't see that's the way they too, will leave that place.

FWIW, there is still one monoclonal antibody available and approved for prevention of the current variants of covid for six months at a whack. It is called evushield but docs are only supposed to prescribe it for patients at high risk from the vaxx. I qualified due to no immunity to respiratory viruses.
Might not be useful to your loved one but if you know someone else that is facing vaxx issues but worry about effects of it, there is another option.

No, my father doesn't have the Coof or anything. No problem there. I tested positive for it myself back around Fed. or Mar., I forget. I had another one of those blood pressure spikes, and they shoved that thing up my nose, and it came back positive.
Moronic (Omicron) most likely. I was pretty much asymptomatic. But after that I noted mild head cold symptoms. Miley got the same a little after. We stayed away from my folks as best we could for about a week.
I didn't tell my mother the reason, other than I thought I might be coming down with something, and just to be safe, would stay away. We still kept them fed and taken care of, but sort of at a distance.
I told her about a week or so later, and she said, yep, glad you didn't tell me, 'cause I would've worried sick.

So, two years into this thing, my folks, she 92 and he 94, haven't displayed any symptoms or anything. My mother is still of sound mind and told them what to do with their "vaccine" when they tried to push it on her. I don't worry about her.
But my father, I'm afraid they'll try to do it. He'll just go along, if I'm not there.
With my own experience, they've stopped pushing this shit to me. Don't even say anything anymore. So, I'm hoping that will hold with my father's next visit.

I've been my father away from them as best I can, but this upcoming can't be avoided, as they'll stop refilling his meds if they can't see him.
This doctor of his is a piece of shit. He absolutely pays no attention to anything you tell him. I wrote him a letter a couple years back about my father's mental state deteriorating. It was evident, he hadn't read it, and just skimmed over the subject.

Publius, evushield is eua authorized as a Preventative as well as treatment but has only been tested to show antibodies existing for six months and only for the current omega and past variants. But, no spike as in vaxx.
Might not be for everyone but the information might be useful for some to know it is out there both as treatment for infection as well as short term prevention.

One cognition test that can be quickly performed is the moca test by semi professionals such as social workers.
The full testing can take about a day and can be upsetting to dementia patients. But in my case, due to circumstances that may involve issues beyond what a poa and medical poa can do, I had to schedule the full testing for my parent. In my parents case, she has declined precipitously even in memory care.

Well, that was a first. Phone rang here at 4:15AM. Caller ID said "Country EMERGENCY Comm". I answered it, just to see.
It was the Greenville County Sheriff. A 12 yr girl is missing, and they've issued some manhunt. Location was on the other side of town, not too close.
I did not they were doing something like that. That was the Spectrum phone. Cell phones have done anything.
