Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant: Buck Shots – 6/20/2022Get Woke Go Broke – ‘Live PD’ Is Coming Back, But Not on A&E Network In the wake of the George Floyd incident in 2020, the woke executives at the A&E cable network decided to demolish their network to show solidarity with the “Defund the Police” movement. To show that they hated the police just as much as other good leftists, A&E executives canceled its flagship show, “Live PD,” which was one of the most popular shows on any network, broadcast or cable. The show broadcast live footage of police officers at various police departments across the country responding to calls. Dan Abrams played the role of host, with two sidekicks providing commentary. Live PD is coming back to cable this summer but on a different network (Reelz) and with a new name, “On Patrol, Live.” But it will otherwise be mostly the same show, once again hosted by Dan Abrams, with Sean “Sticks” Larkin adding commentary. How damaging was A&E’s decision to suspend its ratings juggernaut? It was catastrophic. Immediately after the network canceled ‘Live P.D.,’ the cable channel’s primetime viewership declined 49% — or pretty much by half. That’s no surprise since at the time of its cancellation, ‘Live P.D.’ was A&E’s highest-rated program and occupied multiple evenings on the schedule. Since then, things have been a bit better — but barely. For the…second quarter of 2021, A&E was down 42% in total viewers from the same time in 2020, averaging 495,000 overall primetime audience members compared to 852,000 the year before.A&E was the 20th most watched network (including both broadcast and cable) in 2019. By choosing to run off half its audience when it canceled Live PD, A&E fell to 28th place for 2021. Reelz is currently the 89th ranked network. For now. It should pass A&E soon. By the way, did I mention that A&E is owned 50% by Disney? There are plenty of woke executives in corporate America, but have you ever seen a company whose executives are so willing to destroy the business they run, just to burnish their woke cred? Mr. Brooks really dunked the puck in Trump’s face with that comment. If this weren’t PBS, where decorum matters, Brooks might’ve followed with a touchback dance right there in the studio, followed by a theatric spike of the hockeyball. The Associated Press published a report Thursday about Miami conservative radio hosts objecting to the Democratic Party’s push to buy up Spanish radio stations in the area, and somehow featured a recent interview with a famous radio host who actually died in 2020.The AP issued this comically awkward correction: MIAMI (AP) — In a story published June 9, 2022, about the purchase of Spanish-language radio stations, The Associated Press erroneously identified a woman as Martha Flores, former host of a show on Radio Mambi in Miami, one of the stations in the proposed deal. Flores died in 2020. The woman’s identity was unclear but she attended an event expressing concern with the sale held by a coalition called the Assembly of the Cuban Resistance. In other words, a random old Cuban lady at an event held by an anti-communist organization in South Florida declined to talk to an AP reporter. That was all the info needed for the AP - an elite, left-wing, disinformation-pushing media outlet - to try to smear one of its ideological opponents, who they didn’t realize had passed away. Ron DeSantis’ press secretary never misses a chance to give some well-deserved mockery to the media outlet that she refers to as “American Pravda.” (buck.throckmorton at protonmail dot com) Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

++++ And never forget, we need the news because they have editorial standards and extensive systems in place to ensure accuracy and prevent bad information from publication. These safeguards, which are not present in the "citizen press" like blogs, make them a vital part of our information chain and they are crucial to our society. Just ask them. Sorry to off O/T, but I have a question for HVAC-competent morons.
I will be having company in a couple of weeks and they like things a *lot* warmer than I do. To keep myself from being miserable, I want to block the registers in their rooms. I know this is reported as possibly having bad consequences (increased pressure and humidity, which could cause issues in the heat exchanger), but I don't how serious it is. I would be blocking 3 vents in one path (upstairs) and 1 vent in the other path (downstairs), which would leave 8 unblocked upstairs and five downstairs. All of the blocked registers would be at or near the head of the chain (closest to the blower), with everything downstream still open. Is this actually a bad idea and I should suck it up and deal with it for a few weeks, or is it okay to block them for a month or so? 307 I forgot today was the "official" Juneteenth. I saw mailtrucks running, but the post office and the bank are closed.
Honestly, I think it's a fine American holiday. I want it to grow so big that celebrating emancipation completely deflates the focus on sexual "pride." 321 If you recall, A&E was initially The Arts & Entertainment network ... like you know recordings of piano concerts and symphony orchestras. Today, it seems to feature min-marathons of "The Secrets of Playboy" and "Intervention" (which I assume is a reality TV show letting viewers wallow vicariously in the misery of drug addicts).
Unless this is all one big performance art piece about societal decay, it would seem the E beat the A quite handily. Posted by: Match Checksout at June 20, 2022 12:04 PM I liked it when it first showed up as part of the regular cable package. It was like the best of PBS, but on a regular basis and not just during fundraising. Its bowdlerized English dub of the movie "Babette's Feast" intrigued me; I sought out the subtitled original (aka with Christian allusions and philosophy intact). I'm so old I remember when AandE focused on Arts and Entertainment.
Their ratings might go up if their programming returned to roots. A reality Cop show might be a channel-propper but it still stinks that the programming it used to carry is replaced by reality schlock. Posted by: Sarahw at June 20, 2022 12:13 PM (g1vnC) 370

That would surprise me. Every "trans" type I have met in real life is a mid-level professional, usually in tech. That's the group that tends to have some money and unless they're reckless, they have decent credit. Posted by: Joe Mannix ------- I understand that, but at the more common every day level, that is not the case. They just are not stable members of the community. America's tennis sweetheart was not the innocent little girl people pictured. She liked the fellows IYKWIM.
I confess to impure thoughts as a yoot. Interestingly, Wiki has this: The Evert–Navratilova rivalry was a tennis rivalry in the 1970s and 1980s between Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova, widely regarded as two of the greatest tennis players of all time. Not the greatest female players of all time, just the greatest. Sure, Wiki. I'm sure they'd have eaten Bjorn Borg alive. Posted by: Archimedes at June 20, 2022 12:14 PM (/NCI4) 374

At 0.5% rates, you don't have to make a profit at all - so long as you started when the rates were higher. You don't even need to break even. Until, horror of horrors, rates go *up.* Then you get monkey-hammered and go bankrupt immediately because you're not running a real business, you're running a zombie. I get my wired phone and high speed Internet that way. Phone is about $20 pm compared to ~$100 for a POTS line. My Internet speed is around 20-30 Mbps, about 20-30 times an old DSL line would do. I'm reminded of another time A&E cancelled its best show for a stupid reason. This would be 20 years ago when "Nero Wolfe," its highest-rated show that was all set to start a third season, got cancelled. Why? Because of a new CEO who decided reality TV was the future and threw away everything A&E had to go all-in on reality TV. Wouldn't even give any of their current shows a chance to compete with new reality series offerings. Just straight-up cancelled them all regardless of how good they were (and "Nero Wolfe" was *very* good) or how well they were doing.
