The Morning Report - 6/15/22

mitchsaferalready.jpg

Good morning, kids. The results from yesterday's primaries in South Carolina, Nevada, Maine, and North Dakota are in and Trump-backed or otherwise non-RINO populist candidates roared to victory. The one exception was Nancy Mace, who beat back challenger Katie Arrington. For a recap of all the races, you can click here for Breitbart's election night live wire, as they seem to have the most extensive coverage.

The big news of the night, though, came out of south Texas where, in a special election, a seat in an overwhelmingly Latino district that the Democrats have held for 150 years flipped Republican.

This qualifies as a political earthquake. In a special primary election to fill out the term of former Rep. Filemon Vela, who resigned his House seat in March, GOP candidate Mayra Flores received 50.98% of the vote, making a runoff election unnecessary. Re-elect Flores will represent the Texas 34 Congressional District that runs along the Gulf Coast to the Mexican border, and which is 84.54% Hispanic.

Hispanic voters are dumping the Democrats, a trend that has the potential to doom the party at a national level. Rep. Flores will serve only until January, but will be the incumbent when the seat is up for election in November. However, as the Texas Tribune notes,

The special election was unique in that it was held under the previous lines of the 34th District, which [so-called quote-unquote "president"] Joe Biden won by only 4 percentage points. But redistricting made the district more friendly to Democrats in November, when the Democratic nominee is U.S. Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, D-McAllen.

If the new more Democratic district elects Gonzalez in November, the Dems will have a talking point to refute the trend of Hispanic voters going Republican. But incumbents have a large advantage in most races and Joe Biden’s performance in office is a millstone around the neck of any Democrat so a Dem win is far from a certain outcome. And the trend is likely to continue in other districts with heavily Hispanic populations. The loss of support among Hispanic voters is a disaster for the Democrats of gigantic significance.

Winds of change, my friends. That said, everywhere else we're in a massive societal/cultural/political hurricane akin to the eye of Jupiter. More and more people are staring into the maw of Democrat created disaster and are horrified. The only thing we can do is vote. The vicissitudes of Dao-Min Yen notwithstanding, the news of MAGA-style candidates rising is offset by the fact that the only alternative to the Democrats, the GOP, hates the base almost as much as the Dems themselves. Case in point:

SHOT:

Fewer Americans support a ban on so-called assault weapons than Quinnipiac has ever recorded, the pollster reported on June 8.

Americans are about evenly divided on whether the government should ban assault weapons, the poll found, the lowest show of support for such a ban since February 2013, when Quinnipiac first started asking about it.

A plurality of respondents, including most Republicans and independents and 31 percent of Democrats, told Quinnipiac that mental health issues are the main cause of mass shootings committed by young people. Only 19 percent of all respondents say "the availability of guns" is the main cause. A majority of Americans, meanwhile, oppose any efforts to limit the number of firearms in the country.

These results come even as mainstream media outlets and Democratic politicians, including [so-called quote-unquote "president"] Joe Biden, have ramped up calls for an assault-weapon ban in light of recent mass shootings and ahead of this year's midterm elections.

CHASER:

On June 12 a bipartisan Senate gun control agreement was announced.

Breitbart News reported that the agreement includes a requirement for an “investigative period” during background checks for gun purchases for persons under 21 years of age. The agreement does not indicate any stipulation for how long this “investigative period” may last or how long it could stretch the time it takes to complete a background check.

On June 14, MacFarlane tweeted, “Sen Mitch McConnell (R-KY) announces he will support bi-partisan framework on new gun control and school safety legislation.”

MacFarlane further indicated McConnell’s position, partially quoting him: “the bipartisan group has done the best they can” to reach a gun control agreement.

I'll be honest; getting it up to vote for a party that does this is damn near impossible, irrespective of what it means if a Democrat wins (fair and square or otherwise). I get it, the Left controls the media and therefore they control the messaging and the language. But at this stage, to play along with them and accept the narrative is worse than surrender. It's collaboration. In the wake of what happened in Uvalde, every damn Republican should have spoken in one voice to condemn Democrat social policies that bred the monster who perpetrated the shooting, the Democrat policies that led to the incompetence and cowardice of the police and full throated defense of the Second Amendment as the only solution that would have prevented or otherwise mitigated the carnage.

And that goes for every catastrophe that has been blamed on America and the American culture for the past 60 years that the Democrat-Left have used as an indictment against and casus belli to dismantle us. But no. We've had low-T cuck collaborators from George Romney to Mitt Romney selling us down the river for decades now. And that is why we got Trump in 2016, and please God, a growing army of Trumps going forward.

Digging in a bit deeper into this latest sellout, it's not as "common sense" as its pimps declare. In fact, it's actually rather dangerous to our liberties given the current political climate to those of us who oppose this tyranny.

The proponents of these laws claim that law-abiding gun owners have nothing to fear. They also say that most shootings are done by mentally unstable people. Hence if a friend or a psychiatrist, or a family member can alert a judge about the potential of violence, a shootout can be prevented. Precious lives can be saved.

But this best possible scenario where this law may work is a utopian picture where each and every family member, friend, doctor, law enforcement official, and court judge is both morally upright and objective.

But laws must not be judged solely by how they will be used in utopian climates but also by how they could be misused and exploited by rogue elements in a worse possible scenario. . .

. . . What makes laws such as these alarming is the climate in which they are being passed.

The protesters of January 6 were and still are being subjected to draconian punishment.  The partisan January 6 Select Committee's sole function is to harass and intimidate political opponents. Parents concerned about their children being indoctrinated with Critical Race Theory were branded as domestic terrorists. Biden called the Trump supporters "the most extreme political organization that's existed in recent American history." Then there is the ominous Disinformation Governance Board, which intends to sit in judgment of the pronouncement of citizens. There were and perhaps still are government-ordered vaccine and mask mandates that override the democratic right of choice. There were lockdowns that restricted movement of citizens.

It comes as no surprise that the Democrats are supporting these draconian red-flag laws.

It is disappointing that Five House Republicans and 10 Republican senators are also pushing these laws. Yes, some among these are disgruntled never-Trumper Republicans and some are turncoats, but what about the rest? This continues to be the risk when Republicans retake the House and the Senate, the GOP may be in control but the strings of some puppets may be in the hands of the Democrats.

These red flag laws will be another step toward authoritarianism where the government encroaches into the private space of the citizen.

Bingo. Recall that the former Soviet Union locked people up in insane asylums because they deemed them crazy for wanting to emigrate to the west. That was literally a "red flag." Imagine a red flag law that allowed the confiscation of anyone's firearms if they knew the hapless patsies of the FBI's Gretchen Whitmer entrapment scam. Hell, if you lived on the same block as any of them. You don't need to be Nostra-freaking-damus to see where this is going. It is a fact that our law enforcement agencies and most of our courts are nothing more than corrupt rubber stamp enforcers of this junta and have zero regard for the protections afforded to us in the Constitution. Worse, my feelings about the mindset of the average beat cop, National Guardsmen or uniformed military soldier when given orders from this junta.

If you oppose crackpot race theories, transexual deviants grooming your children, or as "Va" Gina McCarthy shrieks "the transition to green energy," then you're crazy. And sure as night follows day, you need to have your weapons confiscated since your dangerous "insane" thoughts are a red flag.

Everyone just sits there and takes it. They don't have the power to constrict it, they don't have the power for any of it. Yet they did it, they do it and Americans just say, oh, ok.

No state is going to flip from no red flag to red flag based on a few bucks from the feds. 19 states and DC already have red flag laws, including Florida.

As for the parade of horribles that will supposedly ensue: Caniglia v. Strom (SCOTUS). 9-0 in favor of our side.

It greatly aids the advancement of the Great Divorce because it now empowers latent tyrants to imagine themselves as a veto in their neighbors' gun purchase.

We have been doing this for generations where the "community" has final say on developing private property that they neither paid for, maintain or pay rent taxes.

In a Biblica way, this is the "divide mother against daughter, father against son" eschatological marker, it also is further indication that the former United States is abandoning Western Civilization tenets and reverting to the norm of human existence by devolving into a low trust society.

86 the former United States is abandoning Western Civilization tenets and reverting to the norm of human existence by devolving into a low trust society.

Yep. All that.

And, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, it mostly goes back to the constant assault on the "traditional" family. Family is to society like the cell (or at least: tissue) is to your body. It's a microcosm, a fundamental building block.

We learn to trust others by being with family and a close circle of friends. We learn to suppress our own wants and desires in deference to others by being a part of a family. We can see what having an abnormal or broken family does to people - it wounds them permanently, even those who "rise above it" eventually and go on to have families of their own. Many - most? - do not rise above it and become threats to the society which spawned them.

But no one wants to do what would be necessary to even attempt to fix it, and so we've consigned ourselves to the Burning Times.

124 Also... what happened to logic and reason?

I mean, first off, why did we stop teaching those vital skills in school (yep, formal logic used to be taught in HS)?

But, more important, why is it people who *should* be well versed in those important skills choose to ignore them because things scare them or make them feel bad? I keep seeing well-meaning (I know they're well-meaning, because I have known them personally for a very long time) people talk about "doing something about guns" and "people in the gun culture are reflexively afraid" but not one of them can ever acknowledge their own emotional bias - that they are irrationally afraid of guns.

Why is getting murdered by a gunshot worse than getting murdered by some dude driving a van over you? Or than by getting stabbed? Or having someone set off a bomb they made out of a pressure cooker?

The only answer is: your fear. You have an irrational (if not unreasonable - you've been steeped in propaganda for most, if not all, of your life) fear of guns and gun owners - to the point that even facts you can cite yourself mean nothing.

133 JJ, I'm very pleased to read that you see the significance of the TX-34 election, which is the one I thought the most important of the day yesterday. (although it was nice to see Rice get crisped in S.C.)

The Texas 34 race results are Big not because the seat is important (it isn't) but because of the pattern it showed. This falls election is featurung a full slate of Hispanic Women running as Republicans in almost all of the formerly safe Dem border seats. There's been a lot of speculation as to whether they will appeal to formerly dem-voting Hispanic voters. Texas 34 (in this election) was 84% Hispanic, and Mayra Flores, the Hispanic Republican Woman, won this formerly safe Dem seat by a 51% to 43% margin. If this pattern is repeated this fall, a lot of the border districts could flip from D to R. And they're not going to be GOP-e Republicans, either; this is a whole new group. Going to be fascinating to watch.

You are missing the real trend going on. The Feds keep piling on and piling on because that is what bureaucracies always do: never solve the problem that you are getting paid to fix. It is pretty evident that the BATFE has zero interest in the very simple and easy enforcing 4473 violations that automatically are triggered at point of sale through the automated background check.

There is so much sclerosis in the bureaucracy that pretty much everything illegal is practically legal if you don't make yourself a cat toy. Grey Man is The Rule here.

Go take your suppressed, short-barreled select fire weapon and have a great day - just don't make a show of it. There are a lot of people getting equipment and obtaining skills to fashion quite an impressive arsenal of defensive and offensive weapons. Now is not the time they are sharing this with the low-trust world.

145 Someone posted the text of the House-passed "red flag" law.

The definition of family member includes anyone who ever lived with the gun owner.

This means the ex who slept over one night can report you--days or months after you break up.

90% of red flag reports will be spurned lovers. The other 9.99% will be politically motivated. Not even .01% will be legitimate.

155 ... I get it, the Left controls the media and therefore they control the messaging and the language. But at this stage, to play along with them and accept the narrative is worse than surrender. It's collaboration.
++++
Is it really? I'm not so sure. Suppose you work for GM, in the Buick Division. You do your work and you're not the favored son, because that's the Cadillac Division. The head of Cadillac comes over to ask for your help in getting a new feature for their cars signed off on. It's a big request, because it will be expensive and make you some enemies in the Chevrolet Division and beyond. But the head of Cadillac promised that you help out the Cadillac Division, they'll make sure the benefits trickle down to Buick sooner rather than later. They have done this before. Their request this time would be bad for Buick and bad for Buick's customers and capital position, but you go along with it anyway for the benefit of the company.

Is that "collaboration?" I don't think so. It's just doing what you need to do to make sure the company does well. You may be in competing divisions, but you're still on the same team at the end of the day.

160 JJ, I'm very pleased to read that you see the significance of the TX-34 election, which is the one I thought the most important of the day yesterday.

166 Why is getting murdered by a gunshot worse than getting murdered by some dude driving a van over you? Or than by getting stabbed? Or having someone set off a bomb they made out of a pressure cooker?

The only answer is: your fear. You have an irrational (if not unreasonable - you've been steeped in propaganda for most, if not all, of your life) fear of guns and gun owners - to the point that even facts you can cite yourself mean nothing.
Posted by: AllenG #Texit at June 15, 2022 08:04 AM (bnrVB)

Valid points all, but to be blunt gun control has nothing to do with crime or violence and everything to do with disarming Whites. Everyday, leftwing district attorneys refuse to prosecute people for gun crimes, and those defendants are mostly non-White. This is a racist, targeted movement against Whites designed to put them in fear. It is aimed at anyone, really, who would defend themselves against crime and state-sponsored terror but the reality is that mostly is Whites. The GOPe is absolutely the mirror image of the Democrats in this regard. It has to be punished.

I disagree that what they are pushing is race based; rather I think it is class based. They are attempting to promote the Underclass over all others, because those are their footsoldiers. A white Antifa soldier ranks far higher in their eyes than any black or hispanic gun owner; and the reason for this is that beneath all the blah blah blah, this is really just Marxist Class War all over again. 192 Trump found a way out the political death spiral the GOP was in. He forced the GOP to become more working class friendly, which of course made the GOPe angry. They thought they could keep their power via stupid wars and kissing big donor ass. Just look who had been running the GOP - Bush, McCain and Romney.

Also of equal importance is that at the same time the Democrats become less working class friendly, and big donor friendly. You combine that with their love of radical academic ideologies, they are overtly hostile to the working class.

That is why the Hispanic vote is shifting, and this could be the biggest political shift since the white south flipped in the 1960s-70s.

The key now is to make sure the transformation of the GOP is completed, and if possible to egg on the Democrats to jump off the cliff.

What's particularly ironic about this is that it is the very condition that the "professional" civil service system was supposed to prevent. The spoils/patronage system resulted in significant federal turnover with every new administration, as the new boss packed the agencies with his cronies. The system was corrupt and ineffective.

But it was transient and at least somewhat accountable. When the new boss came in, they would all be gone. If you hate the bureaucracy, you can change the president and his motivations and paybacks will make him fire lots of people and replace them. With the professional system, the system is corrupt and ineffective but also permanent and unaccountable. Add in to that the institutional capture and perfect alignment to one side and you get what we have today, which is a system *far* worse than the old spoils system.

So much for theory.

But you know what an act of Congress like that does? It lends their imprimatur to the legal process. So this will end up back in the courts again. Because Republicans yielded on an unconstitutional issue to get a headline and give the people a finger.

212 >>The problem is not whether Republicans win the House in November but rather the Uniparty remains in control of Congress.

Less in control all the time.

As some of us have been saying and JJ's essay point out yesterday's elections turned out a number of uniparty Republicans and replaced them with more MAGA friendly candidates. The Flores election in TX was an absolute earthquake. Biden won that district in 2020 by 13 points and now a Hispanic has won by 7.

In SC Rice lost his reelection by 25 points to a Trump endorsed candidate and another one, Timmons, also won. This is the way forward. Replacing the uniparty candidates with one who support our agenda.

I won't vote for a R candidate who will stab me in the back but I won't vote for a D who will stab me in the front either. The far left took over the Democrat party using this strategy, it will work for us as well.

The problem with every "Progressive" theory (from Marxism to Critical Theory to, yes, even theories about Professional vs Spoils) is that they expect "the government" to act out of absolute beneficence, to the "angles governing men" that Maddison (I think? It's early) pointed out in the Federalist Papers don't exist.

"People" are cruel and envious and greedy and lazy, but somehow the moment they join the government in any (professional/bureaucratic) capacity - from dog catcher to cop to teacher to "city planner" - they are somehow elevated to sainthood and will only do "what's best for everyone."

Whereas good, cynical conservatives know that everyone is an a-hole, and those who seek power in the halls of government are usually worse than most.

On the other hand, their union dues help fund the behemoth. Fuck them.

Sorry, but sexually assaulting anyone, even someone who is so psychologically compromised as to consider such an assault an "act of love," is still an act of sexual assault.

Full. Stop.

That this kind of violent and degenerate behavior has further manifested itself in diseases that have afflicted and killed millions around the world only serves to underscore the undeniable fact that homosexual activity is dangerous and absolutely anti-social, and cannot be blithely passed off with a wave of the hand as "a basic component of American liberty."

We'll never be able to go back to the old "spoils" system of civil employment, but we can remove a key to how its current form of permanency is so toxic, and that is the "DC" or "one town host" for all of these mandarins. The "company" town idea, that all these unelected clerks running the country live, socialize and reinforce each other's inevitableness is what makes it hard to breakup. They eventually come to despise the country they serve, being disconnected from it, and only have loyalty to each other.

I don't disagree with most of what you said. But practically, it will play out no differently than if they had not included the funding. 19 states *including Florida* and DC already have red flag laws.

It's a state issue, will remain a state issue, and if the states step over the line, will end up in SCOTUS again. Exactly as would have happened with or without fedbucks.

If you want to prevent red flag laws, instead of throwing up your hands like a drama queen at a pride rally, get active in your state politics.

Never easy to take on entrenched power which is pretty much how we ended up at this place. We have so many uniparty people in DC because for years that's who picked our nominees both in the House and the Senate.

But for lack of a better term the MAGA split in the party is real and seems much better financed and organized than the Tea Party was. Just gotta keep chipping away and whenever we can support those who support us and turn out the ones who don't. 283 So a nutjob that's intent on shooting up a school isn't going to care that he may not be able to legally purchase a gun. He'll get one somewhere else. Because gun control laws only punish responsible, law abiding citizens. Now, if we want to address moral decay in society and find ways to fix that? It might actually do some good. Congress is wrong. I'm right. I win.

314 Saint of the Day
St. Germaine Cousin (1579--1601) was born in a remote French village to a peasant farmer. She was born with a deformed right arm and a disease that causes abscesses in her neck. Her mother died when she was an infant, and her father remarried. Due to Germaine's deformities, her stepmother severely neglected and physically abused her. Starving, sick, and in rags, Germaine was forced to sleep in the barn. Her stepmother sent her to tend sheep near a wolf-infested forest. St. Germaine was pious child - She prayed the rosary and went to Mass daily, leaving her sheep to the care of her guardian angel. Even though she was emaciated, she shared the little food she had with beggars. Her piety was admired by the village children, and adults became aware of her holiness when news of her miracles began to circulate. St. Germaine died at the age of twenty-two, succumbing to her poor living conditions. Years later her body was found incorrupt. Villagers began praying for her intercession and receiving miraculous cures, resulting in her canonization in 1867. St. Germaine is the patron saint of the unattractive, peasant girls, abuse victims, the handicapped, and the abandoned.

... That's what they believe in, more than anything else.

365 Apropos of nothing, I have learned about a language convention that always confused me. Automotive air bags are often called "passive restraints" and this is always confused the hell of me. An airbag is an active system. It monitors sensors, works continuously to detect for conditions that merit deployment, then triggers a complex process to actually inflate the bag. Nothing about the system is "passive."

I learned that it's called that because it's passive from the standpoint of the *driver,* in that he has to do nothing. The actual passive restraint - the seat-belt, which is fairly passive (pretensioners and lockups notwithstanding), is an "active" restraint in that the driver or passenger has to actuate it. The airbag - an active system - is a "passive" restraint because the driver or passenger does not have to do anything.

I always thought about it from the standpoint of the restraint, but they are named from the standpoint of the driver or passenger.

And the average held by those who do hold them aren't that large.

The target for student loan forgiveness are those who took out massive loans, which is relatively rare. Among those, it tends to be well-off professionals like doctors and lawyers that would benefit most. Yes, there are the occasional borrowers who spent $200,000 for an undergrad in nothing worthwhile at Kenyon College or something, but they're the exception.

I liked both movies and the books they were based on. Forest Gump is furthest from its literary touchstone. It is a profoundly Western Tale; two Odysseys about Forrest and Jenny returning to Ithaca: Greenbough, AL. The theme is profoundly Christian: the meek shall. Yes it was aimed at boomers but its message is eternal. Bog Fish follows the book literally and does a very good job of translation to film. Not a fan of Tom Hanks but he is a good actor. I see him as our generations Jack Lemmon. He can play 'everyman' well.

It'll probably be gone by then I'd guess but I don't know -- it seems they're mainly reporting about due west of Calgary but maybe it's the same much further north. Check 'jasper ski reports' maybe?

I know I'm old but it wasn't the ice age.

433 @412: "... , it is impossible for anyone to be involuntarily committed unless ..."

That'll change real quick if it becomes a legit way of confiscating guns. It'll be done under the banner of public health and safety. Some red flagged people will be genuine dangers to their communities, but others will end up in a Kafkaesque legal loop with no simple way out, and it'll take a decade of legal challenges before the "recovery of rights" process is anything but impossible.

434 Suicidal veterans have the right to self defense.

Dangerous criminal belong in jail and everyone else belongs out. Gun control wants to etch out a place to live for the fuckers on the wrong side of the bars. It won't work, and it will get regular people killed.

"All gun control gets regular people killed".

437 Read the label on the corned beef hash. Most don't use corned beef! I think Libby's might be the brand that does. Also, I've heard turkey spam is pretty good. I'll have to try some. Always try the stuff you store.

440 Under those types of law, an individual is guilty until proven innocent. Anyone can claim a person is a "threat" , have firearms removed, and then the accused has to spend who knows how much time and money proving that they are not. So, sure , let's incentivize this.

Kari Lake: Yes, the Vice President was here saying the states shouldnt be involved. It should be up to the federal government. And I guess thats true in a rainbow and lollypop world but were down here in Arizona living in the cartel world where because of Joe Biden and because of a corrupt stolen, election, they put Joe Biden in the White House. And now we have a disaster at our border.

450 Call your senators, folks. Make your voice heard. I just left a message with John Cornyn’s office telling him that while I understand some sort of compromise might be necessary, red flag laws are a complete dealbreaker for me, as they are a violation of both second amendment rights and due process rights. If I wanted a Senator to support that, I’d have voted for Beto O’Rourke. Cornyn thinks he can get away with this because his term isn’t up until 2026, and people forget. I made a point to say I won’t, and that if he can’t be trusted to defend my rights, then I might as well vote for his opponent next time.

Call. Write. Put some fear into these turncoats that their actions will cost them votes. It’s the only way make a difference.

451 Here is the link to find the phone number of your Senator's office, as well as to send a written message. Use it. Make sure they know you oppose this. You will need to identify yourself as a constituent, and yes, that means giving them your address. Just do it. They may not change their minds even if you tell them to, but they sure as hell won't if you don't say anything.
