"Wow:" McConnell Will Support the Gun Control "Compromise" Reached by Democrats and the Liberal Fake Republicans

A couple of weeks ago, the leftwing grifter Allahpundit attacked actual conservatives for resisting gun control efforts, and called their own proposals -- involving arming guards and teachers and hardening schools -- "unserious."

What would be "serious" measures, Allahpundit? He was too cowardly and too shifty to say. Of course, it could not be missed that he was hinting very, very strongly that he was on board with the full panoply of leftwing gun control measures, but he remains a coward even as he calls for "courage" from "patriot-minded conservatives."

He doesn't want to lose his grifter job. He has no other skills and is not suitable for any other form of semi-employment. He cannot just come out and say "I'm a hard-left agitator now."

So it's always hints and innuendoes. He can attack conservatives for what they want... but he doesn't yet have the guts to admit what he wants, which is the standard Affluent White Female Liberal leftwing social agenda on guns, abortion, everything.

Oh, I guess he sure showed his AWFL stripes on masks and lockdowns and forced vaccinations, huh?

Baby steps.

But now Mitch McConnell has embraced his favored position of gun control -- oh wait, Allahpundit spun this not as gun control, which he says the Republicans are too cowardly to agree to, but mere "lunatic control" -- and so Allah feels emboldned to show a little skin and embrace this leftwing position a little more openly.

Does this deserve a "wow"?

It feels like a "wow." The Senate hasn't passed a gun bill in almost 30 years. Now here's the most powerful Republican in Congress giving it his seal of approval.

But I'm not sure it's a "wow." Look at it this way: Is there any real downside to McConnell and the Senate GOP in supporting this deal?

What's the downside? That some gun-rights supporters on the right, like Tucker Carlson, will be mad?

However mad they are, I promise they're not mad enough to affect the midterm calculus. The political climate is so horrifically bad for Democrats that a red tsunami is on the way whether or not this bill passes. It's a free play for the GOP.

And McConnell personally has nothing to lose. He's used to being a hate object for the populist base; I think he enjoys flouting them, frankly. Besides, he doesn't face voters again until 2026 and may well retire rather than do so. By coming out in favor of the gun deal early, he can serve as a lightning rod for other members of his caucus who might want to support the bill but fear a backlash in conservative media. Now that Fox primetime and talk radio have McConnell to yell at, the other Republicans in favor will go largely overlooked.

Now, consider the upsides. Democrats have been screeching for years that Republicans refuse to Do Something on gun violence, supposedly too frightened of the NRA to act for the country's benefit. Suddenly the GOP has an easy retort: "We backed the deal between John Cornyn and Chris Murphy, didn't we?" Righties can no longer be accused of paralysis after mass shootings.

Another upside: One of the two key planks of the deal, adding juvenile offenses to the federal background check system, is completely uncontroversial. Obviously kids who committed dangerous crimes when they were minors shouldn't be able to buy guns when they turn 18. Even Dan Crenshaw supports that provision despite opposing practically every other form of restricting gun access.

Yes, True Conservative: "Even Dan Crenshaw" supports this, and all of us conservatives trust Dan Crenshaw on gun control.

He really gets conservatives, huh? I think we've found the Washington Post's next Conservative Correspondent.

All the Salon Hot 25 conservatives -- almost all employed by The Dispatch, The Bulwark, and The Atlantic and of course Salem Media -- will be high-fiving each other at the Meeting of The Concerned tonight.

Is it time to get rid of Mitch McConnell or do we have to go through another round of "But judges"?

AP is an idiot, but this is correct. Nothing the GOP does is enough to get its voters to #WalkAway. As long as Democrats exist, they are safe no matter what they do.

128 McConnell is the one (Senate Majority Leader at the time) who "colluded" with Pelosi in not securing the Capitol on J6.
He was leading the sabotage of Trump from the beginning -- blocking spending on the Wall, speaking out on how "credible" and "necessary" the Mueller investigation was into the dossier THEY ALL KNEW WAS FAKE.

He is the one that gave the signal that Dems could flagrantly violate election laws, flood swing states with mail in ballots and be given extra days *after* the election to count ballots.

He was one of the loudest voices claiming J6 was an insurrection to sic FBI on Trump's supporters and to put DC under military occupation to swear Biden in.

And he helped facilitate Biden's $1.6 T "America Rescue Plan" as well as the insane amount of money to Ukraine (funny how the Senate acted in less than a day to give $40 BILLION to that corrupt shithole while there isn't a word about our southern border).

The Republicans will be able to publicly go out and say "We tried to pass some gun reforms but the Dems just wouldn't accept even this compromise".

It's yet another nail in the Dems coffin

Now do I believe red flags would be USEFUL, sure. Keeping human filth like in Uvalde and in Broward county from getting guns after showing obvious signs of being sociopaths is a GOOD thing. But its clear it'll be weaponized and its also clear it's not being used already. Posted by: 18-1 at June 14, 2022 04:53 PM (ESjRY)

143 However mad they are, I promise they're not mad enough to affect the midterm calculus. The political climate is so horrifically bad for Democrats that a red tsunami is on the way whether or not this bill passes. It's a free play for the GOP.

Regardless of which way they vote, it won't impact the midterms, so may as well piss off some of the base I'm exchange for a completely worthless talking point of "we did something" for future negotiations with the party that's motto is "it's never enough/we need to do more?"

Brilliant.

This is the biggest difference between legislators on the Right and Left. When democrats got the Congress and presidency, on day one, they started dismantling Trump's successes and spreading their tentacles throughout every agency. When the GOP wins, our "leaders" seek the greatest act of contrition to make the losers not feel too bad. Trump won; McConnell dug in his heels immediately, seeking compromise and ways to temper any of Trump's eagerness.

Dems bring a gun to a knife fight, and our guys hand them our knife, just so no one gets hurt. Sure, we always end up in the ER with gunshot and knife wounds, sputtering about how "We're the saucer..." but it makes for better fundraising that way.

The GOP should be pushing constitutional carry and doing something about the unconstitutional NFA (something that never should have seen the light of day but also should have been shit canned years ago) but instead everybody now has to spend all their energy and time worrying about how much the GOP is going to sell them out. That's what everyone is saying. I haven't read the darn thing, and I don't trust any of these lying RINO MFers half as far as I could throw them (I'm looking at you Mitch and your little lickspittle Cornyn too).

I would hope that Texas would not introduce the unconstitutional red flag laws. But since I also thought that a Texas Senator would have never backed this unconstitutional bullshit, all bets are off.

At this point I'd vote for a democrat before I'd vote for Cornyn. If your going to have a two faced, lying, gun grabbing, punk ass bitch for a senator, might as well have the real thing and not a cheap imitation like Cornyn.

If there was an opposition party they'd be pointing out the tranny spree shooter already broke a bunch of laws to get his gun and every government employee in the process just let it pass - presumably because he was a tranny and dreamer. And that the only thing that stopped him was literally a "good guy with a gun".

274 I'm assuming "take the W" is sarcastic here, because it would be invidious to describe it if it's serious.

Purely passive, usually insincere inertia farming is not, obviously, close to adequate if you want to improve the country, or at this point even mitigate the deep, comprehensive degradation.

So not having any AR-15 bans is not a "win", it's simply to be assumed, and the opportunity should have been seized to engage in actual politics - on offense. Red hot, screaming, relentless offense.

On the issue. On gunz, on "climate", on many things, the GOP is content to barely avert catastrophe, via inertia (the public really not supporting the most idiotic vandalism of the Dems). There is never - never - even a word spoken to eviscerate the massive edifice of lies and cartoonish myths on which all of these toxic idiocies are based.

Even Trump, in dumping the Paris Accord, said not a word about substance. Total dodge. "Not a good deal for America" - which is really idiotic and irresponsible. There's a reason the country's in the state it's in, and one of the main factors is this - literal silence, on substance, from any rational, informed public figure.

If it goes to the states, we sort of reset, but (as with most things) I think we'll see a gradual shift to more permissive abortions/the left wing view.

CBS says that they contacted one of the 31 suspects' lawyer, now released on bond, and that lawyer gave a quote. But checking out the lawyer, he also said that his client never contacted him about the arrest, and his lawyer hasn't even represented him on any other case, though supposedly the guy has a prior. So, what WTH?

No one else's lawyer has been called, or any attempt to discover anything about the other 30 guys at all other than CBS thinks they might be former military - yeah, not at an average age of 24. Everything sounds way too fishy.

355 The collapse of Bitcoin and others is a good thing for the environment.
https://tinyurl.com/yup94ebf

.... Since Bitcoin’s price peaked at around $69,000 in November, the network’s annual electricity consumption has been estimated to be between roughly 180 and 200 terawatt-hours (TWh). That’s about the same amount of electricity used by all the data centers in the world every year....
....A sustained price at around $24K could shrink the Bitcoin network’s global energy use to around 170 TWh annually, according to de Vries. That might sound like an incremental change, but it would add up to a significant drop in electricity use and related greenhouse gas emissions. If you compare it to the annualized energy use de Vries estimated Bitcoin was responsible for throughout much of 2022, it would be like shaving off the amount of electricity the country of Ireland uses in a year.

417 Jeebus. Nonsense. "Nothing" = you know, actually, *nothing*. That's exactly what the GOP should have given the Dems here. Extending background checks (which overall do no good whatsoever) to include minors' criminal records should have been it. So, nothing+.

There isn't anything the least bit "shrewd" about McConnell's behavior, now or earlier. Jeebus, again. He and his party merely benefit from circumstances or, more importantly, the histrionic awfulness of their opponents. He was key in hobbling and squandering the most important election in modern history, 2016, to the massive detriment of the country.

rhomboid's rule of thumb, which is even more obvious than most things I have figured out: the worse the Dems are, the worse the GOP can, and will, be.

"Moderate" (i.e., stupid and/or misinformed) GOP voters have no where to go - just like everyone else in a dead "two-party system". Especially this cycle. Therefore there is no need to throw them anything.

Whatever, you get the idea. It's romanticism, and it's bullshit. This is not a sectional struggle, North versus South, west, East, etc. It's not a racial struggle, either. But it is a struggle, a serious one, and one that we are neck deep into. The "Struggle for the Soul of America" under the Bidenistas has shown that soul to be cowardly, venal, vituperous and thoroughly corrupt. And utterly destructive of the existing social contract which is our Constitution. They have no regard for it, no love of it, and no real love for their country or countrymen. They are the quisling lapdogs of China, Iran and Klaus Schwab. Money, comfort, status - and you get boned for their privileges. Makes me head spin.

Supposedly, he committed an act of vandalism on a mural at a college there and was arrested in Dec 2021 - but no mug shot is available and no court date set. The mug shot from this arrest in Idaho is what AP is using. The guy's lawyer for the vandalism charge has not been to court with him or even represented him yet on the matter, but he's getting quoted. The guy hasn't even called the lawyer about the Idaho incident. Is this even the same fucking guy? I am beginning to doubt it - otherwise he's being used a prop to give a thin veneer of plausibility this PF group could exist outside halls of the FBI HQ in DC.

* "gun rights" is such a stupid misleading term, it's painful to use it, but "pro 2A" is also stupid in its own way - what parts of the law or constitution don't deserve compliance in a real system worthy of respect? So the "pro" part just reminds one of how idiotic the situation is.

592 I used to live across the street from a drug dealer who provided us with many a nights free entertainment. We would laugh our butts off. Every so often he would get a call (from someone on the force he must have paid off) that he was about to be raided.

He would hop over the fence, dig a hole in his neighbors (a senior citizen) back yard, bury the drugs, carefully replace the sod and dig it back up after the raid.

I never thought I'd be doing this with my guns.

Oh come on. Look at what two years of Democrats in power has done to us. Six more years of this and America would no longer exist. The name itself would be changed. Most conservatives would be in re-education camps, treated like Uighurs. And you (if you're not a Dem plant, which you almost certainly are) will say, "Now we unleash our brilliant comeback!"

There's a middle position between blind acceptance of every Republican and complete rejection. It's to support the good ones and not the bad ones. Simple. If we follow this strategy, the party will eventually be ours. We've made progress toward that already. It's better than it was 20, even 10 years ago.

Posted by: Rusty Trawler at June 14, 2022 06:09 PM (1gif2)

594 Red flags laws will probably be abused (or rather many a Dem will be eager to try to abuse them), but it won't scale very well into a mass confiscation since its cumbersome to do 150 million individual visits to a county judge or whatever.

I mean, go ahead and get angry about it and run about saying "We've been betrayed!" but a more constructive course of action would be to start figuring out how to elect the judge (or the person who'll appoint the judge) in your locale who will mostly just spit on the gun grabbers when they show up to red flag someone.
