Jones Act was developed to protect US shipbuilders from foreign competition, it failed because US hulls could not compete with foreign shipyards, partially due to issues with modernization and no need to compete because of the protectionism.

I'm old enough to remember AoSHQ Horde talking about the state of the (nonexistent) US shipping between ports - what 1+ years ago?
I was reading about "The Big Inch" and "The Little Big Inch" pipelines yesterday. During WWII, there was a huge need to move oil from the East Texas oilfields to the East coast refineries. Railroad cars were too few and in poor condition to be up to the task and steel was needed for the war effort so TPTB said "no" to building an efficient pipe. Tankers ships were getting sunk so rapidly by German U-boats that insurers stopped covering them and the Navy banned them so that the only possible course was to build a pair of pipelines larger in diameter than done before. In August of 1942 they started work on the 1254 mile pipeline and one year later was delivering 334,456 BPD to the refineries. Six month later the 1475 mile long Little Big Inch was delivering 239,844 BPD of gasoline six months later. Those were the days when we were Americans. Now we are begging third world nations to deliver to us baby formula. Posted by: Reuben Hick at June 13, 2022 05:49 PM (AHeqJ) 194
If I were a SCOTUS justice and had young kids, I'd be thinking long and hard about whether I really wanted to put up with the left's bullshit.
Having to constantly be on guard against death threats against yourself, your spouse, your kids, etc. Having your kids be harrassed by the kids of leftists who tell them that you're the devil and want women to die. Having your neighbors pissed off by the noise and aggravation of the unhinged lefty protesters continually outside your house. And you're putting up with this shit for a salary that's a fraction of what you'd be making as a partner in a big private law firm? For a Kavanaugh or a Coney-Barrett, the temptation to just quit must be fairly strong. Legislation and government is always a cost of business. If the cost of compliance gets too high it will destroy an industry just like the rise in the cost of steel. Most Biden appointees are expected to be incompetent to get us to the Great Reset. One competent person -- Garland -- who knows how to abuse the law
The rest: Jean-Pierre , Mayor Pete, Mayorkas, Granholm etc. are useful stooges who need to get nothing done; to fix nothing. Posted by: JM in Florida at June 13, 2022 06:07 PM (oA3dc) 273

A transgender inmate who goes by the name Cristina Iglesias has not spent a day outside of federal prison as an adult. Iglesias was locked up in 1994 for sending death threats to federal judges and then pleaded guilty in 2005 to mailing fake anthrax to U.S. allies in the earliest days of the War on Terror. Now, thanks to a judge's ruling, Iglesias is set to become the first transgender inmate to undergo sex-reassignment surgery—on the taxpayer dime.

I would pay if it were on pay per view to see this rancid feeble old sonofabitch get knocked the fuck out. Even in the state he is in now, I’d like to see it. Especially in payback for what he did to Clarence Thomas.
Would like to see him lip off and do his tough guy gesture and get plastered. I wouldn’t say that about anyone else, it is wrong, but for this guy absolutely. Posted by: JROD at June 13, 2022 06:16 PM (csMc6) 293
