Tube well is a shallow well made to reach the shallow aquifer without being contaminated by surface water. Previously in India and Bangladesh the surface tanks with runnoff were sources of cholera and other waterborne diseases. The tube wells were supposed to alleviate that
Unfortunately in certain areas the shallow aquifer has a lot of natural Arsenic and is slowly poisoning the peasantry.
The solution is to restart the surface tanks or to drill deeper wells, which is beyond the finances of most villages.

idk, around here it is important to protect wells from surface water, but afaik they don't go down to "aquifers".
The deep drilling into aquifers in the west is a concern, since those are not readily refilled. (and I think Saudis in the SW are doing deep drilling to for crops, depleting wells for locals.
Federal and/or state law on how to use the limited aquifers would be useful.

When I went to college, the psychology department was into Skinnerian psychology and operant conditioning (think of lab rats pressing a bar to get food pellets).
So, they decided to see if they could operantly condition elephants at the local zoo, so they rigged a log attached to a rope that the elephants had to pull down to get their treats (like bananas), and to motivate the elephants, they withheld treats otherwise, so the only way the elephants could get treats was to do the log pull.
The elephants hated this.
So, one of the college students working on this decided to go to the zoo on a Sunday with his girlfriend, and ended up in front of the elephant enclosure. One of the elephants recognized his tormentor, went to the watering trough, filled its trunk up with water, backed up to the edge of the enclosure, turned around, and sprayed the college student from head to toe with water.

Putting that refrigerant in tonight, I was toppin' cotton. Some idiot at the auto place I got some cans from last year accidentally slipped in a can with the self-sealing valve on top. They require a different tap -- piercing tap won't work right.
Well, I didn't realize it and put the piercing tap on. It would not work right, and was slow as hell. I was into it because the piercing needle had damaged the thing, and I couldn't take it off.
I got it emptied, but damn it was slow.

S&W Revolvers, including the Model 19, through the Bangor-Punta era, have the hammer-mounted firing pin, the design of which dates back to the early 1900's pre-Model 10 "M&P", which became the vaunted "K" frame, when S&W started using alphabet characters to designate frame sizes.
'Twasn't till the Saf-T-Loc" company bought out Bangor Punta, that both the accursed key-lock *and* frame mounted firing pin with related "flat hammer" appeared on S&W revolvers, including the '19. That's also concurrent with most of the lockwork devolving to the use of MIM (metal injection molding) vs. the classic forged, milled and case-hardened steel innards.

Hi OrangeEnt, not planning on any purchases any time soon. I already have several S&W revolvers from Jesse's collection, I don't think he had a model 19. The ones I shoot the most are a model 14-3 and a 1917 (Brazilian contract of 1937). My favorite is the model 28-3. I've got some 9mm and .45 snap caps already and will pick up some .38 next trip to the gub store (or online shopping expedition) and that should cover the calibers I want to practice most. I probably will do less dry fire with revolvers than with semiautos; I don't flinch as much with revolvers.

My burg's water supply is all deep well water even though the Willamette river flows past it. No basements in this area due the river. Gonna suck when Cascadia lets go and turns everything into liquefied soil due the high water table.

I think below the basalt here is the region where the Juan de Fuca plate is sliding under the continental plate, on it's way to be melted under the Cascades. Deep enough it is salt water.
I have seen those springs in the back roads and hills driving south of The Dalles in the Summer, though. We would drive through sere dry hills, and there would be a emerald spot half way up the hill on the other side of the draw, running down until it apparently evabporated

Some aquifers get recharged, and some do not. But quite often, the "fossil" water is saline. Fresh water usually implies recharge. But it is possible to draw down at a faster rate than the recharge occurs.

There was a plan in one of the local towns that is having water issues to purify extra water in the winter to pump into the city's aquifer to recharge it for the summer when the surface sources dry up or are insufficient.
No idea what became of it though.

I'm going to carry on as his wayward nephew ... my motor and battery arrive Tuesday (about $1000). Never got around to muscling my fat tire trike up my steep hills, but now motors and good lithium batteries make it easy. (I hope) .. I might buy another as a prepper item ... can get a bike up to 20-40 mph .... 70 mile range.
IF they really do cut off our energy (shutdowns are good for the planet, plebes) ... these would be cheap transportation, and even if not Eotwawki, still pretty nifty and fun.

R-12 (CCl2F2) was the best refrigerant for automotive use to date. It's properties made it ideal for automotive A/C and for small things like refrigerators and freezers as well.
A guy around managed to squirrel away a good supply of R-12 in the larger 30 lb cylinders. I got some from him a time or two back in the mid 2000s.
He's dead now, and I don't know what happened to his R-12 stash.

After the Tumpening on election night in 2016 I became a real regular, but was not posting a lot over the past two years after my parents both passed away in the stretch of a year and a half.

Holy shit, huh? Yeah it sucked, I didn't have a ladder big enough to kill the orange. I had my brother's painters come in and do that and the family room, because that is a full cathedral ceiling, again 13.5 ft, and that looked like a frigging vintage mcdonalds. red walls, yellow walls, and a white ceiling. The rooms are very large, so it amplified the suck.

Well, I used Sherwin Williams. Normally I'm a benjamin moore person, but when my brother's painters came in they wanted the sherwin williams. They said they improved it a shitload, and I watched them, and it seemed to flow really nice while doing the edging, so I have been using it and yeah its really nice to work with. They had a color called lightweight beige. Its a very light beige. I used that in the family room, and the kitchen, halls and foyer got a similar color, basically a very slight different shade of beige. They are light colors. It went good with the hardwood floors. The bedroom got a very light blue because it went good with the furniture which is a kind of antique white. I have to do the living room yet, its some weird green, like a light sage, which looks like shit with a red brick fireplace, sooo.

Yeah no shit, right? When I was doing kitchens and bathrooms in a former life I worked in a different house every week or so for years. I saw a lot of stuff, and what people were doing. I also saw what a lot of rich mofos were paying interior designers to do. I guess a lot of it stuck, well the better stuff anyway. Some people had some weird ass ideas of decor.

There is a video on Youtube somewhere of ol' Marlin actually doing some wet work, and mixing it up with some beast. He actually did it, at least in his younger days.
