Senate Democrats have found 10 Republican Senators to endorse a sweeping “gun safety bill” that would inevitably be signed by President Biden if it navigates the Senate. Biden has already praised the legislation, mentioning that it “would be the most significant gun safety legislation to pass Congress in decades.” It is possible that more Republicans could join, as several others have showed interest, including Marco Rubio, Lisa Murkowski, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. I'm so confused about "Green Energy". We are told that relying on "Renewable Energy" will not only help out the environment. But will help our checkbooks as well. Big Tech says not so fast Warren Buffett. Google, Facebook and Microsoft Corp. ? three of the world?s biggest corporate buyers of clean power ? are sounding the alarm that a nearly $4 billion, Warren Buffett-backed renewable-energy project proposed in Iowa isn?t necessarily in the best interest of customers, including them. If approved, it would be the largest complex of wind farms in the entire country when it comes online by the end of 2024, producing enough electricity for more than 700,000 homes. MidAmerican Energy, a utility owned by Buffett conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway Inc., has asked state regulators to approve terms including a guaranteed 11.25% rate of return before starting construction on a project it says will help in its efforts to trim carbon emissions by 75% compared to 2005 levels. But the big-name tech giants that operate data centers in the state warn the project, dubbed Wind Prime, could drive up electricity costs. MidAmerican, they say, should consider alternatives. ?We have concerns that the current Wind Prime proposal is not in the energy customers? best interest,? Corina Standiford, a spokeswoman for Alphabet Inc.?s Google, said in an email.Big Tech doesn't care about your checkbook. Follow the money and somehow with Buffett profiting they won't. That's what irks them. It appear that this woman and elephant had a horrible relationship. An elephant in eastern India killed a 70-year-old woman and then returned to her funeral to trample her corpse. The incident occurred in Odisha state on Thursday, police said. Maya Murmu was at a tube well drawing water in Mayurbhanj district’s Raipal village when the wild elephant appeared out of nowhere. Authorities said it had strayed from the Dalma wildlife sanctuary, nearly 200km from Mayurbhanj. After being trampled, Ms Murmu was taken to hospital where she died from her injuries, police officer Lopamudra Nayak was quoted as saying to the Press Trust of India news agency. Troopers and firefighters from Boston and Chelsea responded to the bridge at 12:04 p.m. for a man threatening to jump from the southbound upper deck. Responding patrols reported that the man had crossed over the barrier and was on the edge of the bridge, contemplating jumping. Sergeant Peter Sennott, Trooper Randy Roach and Trooper Paul O’Connor worked together to establish trust and communicate with the distressed man. Shortly after 12:30 p.m., Trooper O’Connor convinced the man to come back over the fence to the road side of the bridge. Trooper O’Connor then sat with the man and talked to him for a while until EMS took him to a Boston hospital for evaluation. "We wish him recovery and a safe and healthy future," the department said in the Facebook post. ST. I was checking out the booze in this one store and I came across a bottle of this stuff called Amarula, and it had an elephant on the label. I asked the dude there, "what is this, elephant pee?" The dude tells me the story. He says its made from a fruit that grew in africa that nobody ever did anything with, so the fruit would just lay around on the ground and ferment, and then the elephants would eat it, get wasted, and then go stampede the villages. They decided to start cultivating the fruit. it wasn't available in the US at the time, so he told me, so I had to buy the bottle just because I laughed my ass off at the story. Server farms don't dial in their workloads based on whether the wind is blowing or not. Wind is the complete and total opposite of demand based. Furthermore, the nameplate rating for wind is often 5 to 10 times more than the actual output. When energy is needed most, windmills are AWOL. "Tube well is a shallow well made to reach the shallow aquifer without being contaminated by surface water. "
interesting ... is "shallow aquifer" a technical term, or "term of art"? idk, around here it is important to protect wells from surface water, but afaik they don't go down to "aquifers". The deep drilling into aquifers in the west is a concern, since those are not readily refilled. (and I think Saudis in the SW are doing deep drilling to for crops, depleting wells for locals. Federal and/or state law on how to use the limited aquifers would be useful. Posted by: illiniwek at June 12, 2022 11:25 PM (Cus5s) 273

When I went to college, the psychology department was into Skinnerian psychology and operant conditioning (think of lab rats pressing a bar to get food pellets). So, they decided to see if they could operantly condition elephants at the local zoo, so they rigged a log attached to a rope that the elephants had to pull down to get their treats (like bananas), and to motivate the elephants, they withheld treats otherwise, so the only way the elephants could get treats was to do the log pull. The elephants hated this. So, one of the college students working on this decided to go to the zoo on a Sunday with his girlfriend, and ended up in front of the elephant enclosure. One of the elephants recognized his tormentor, went to the watering trough, filled its trunk up with water, backed up to the edge of the enclosure, turned around, and sprayed the college student from head to toe with water. Smart animals. Posted by: The ARC of History! at June 12, 2022 11:28 PM (I2/tG) 281

An aquifer is any layer of the Earth that has accessible ground water. Deep, shallow, in between, they are all aquifers. Swamps, springs, and ponds can occur when an aquifer is open to the surface. Other aquifers may have top sealing layer.

S&W Revolvers, including the Model 19, through the Bangor-Punta era, have the hammer-mounted firing pin, the design of which dates back to the early 1900's pre-Model 10 "M&P", which became the vaunted "K" frame, when S&W started using alphabet characters to designate frame sizes. 'Twasn't till the Saf-T-Loc" company bought out Bangor Punta, that both the accursed key-lock *and* frame mounted firing pin with related "flat hammer" appeared on S&W revolvers, including the '19. That's also concurrent with most of the lockwork devolving to the use of MIM (metal injection molding) vs. the classic forged, milled and case-hardened steel innards. I'm going to carry on as his wayward nephew ... my motor and battery arrive Tuesday (about $1000). Never got around to muscling my fat tire trike up my steep hills, but now motors and good lithium batteries make it easy. (I hope) .. I might buy another as a prepper item ... can get a bike up to 20-40 mph .... 70 mile range. Hey Horde,
Are we talking abut how we came to AoS? Hmm - nice walk down memory lane. I had been a lurker here for a long while, then, in 2015, started to post here and there. Ramped up things ( and kept myself sane) in the buildup to Trump's election in 2016. I had also been reading the National Review, but left it behind as soon as the NeverTrumpers revealed themselves. Never went back there. There's a few blogs I have left behind (and a few that I might leave for good, soon, like Powerline Blog - where I only show up once a week to peak through their Week in Pictures which has some very good memes in it.) Agree on Iowa Hawk, who used to make me laugh out loud quite often (the T. Coddington Van Voorhees VII character was truly spot on GOPe funny). After the Tumpening on election night in 2016 I became a real regular, but was not posting a lot over the past two years after my parents both passed away in the stretch of a year and a half. Love the comradery, love the ranting (Ace's righteous rants are still the best ones!). Love the space for free expression and, and I know this will sound crazy, the sanity of this place (and its insanity). Pax Ex Posted by: Publius Redux at June 13, 2022 01:35 AM (nxZFA) 437

Just finished the last coat of paint in the bedroom. The owner before me thought it was dandy to let his insane girlfriend pick the colors in here. Who the hell paints a bedroom a lemon lime yellow and periwinkle? Either color would be bad enough, but they did a few walls one color, and the other walls another. Lay on your right side you see periwinkle, lay on your left side you see lemon lime. The other bedroom was...was UPS shit brown, and the entire kitchen, halls and foyer were...were pumpkin orange. Pumpkin frigging orange. 13.5 foot vaulted ceiling with a glorious 13.5 foot tall pumpkin orange wall. I had painters come in for that because it was too tall, and I refused to move in with that color. She had a shit taste in colors.

My place was so bad that when I finally saw the inside after being in contract to buy it, I gasped. And the aesthetics were the least of the problems. It was not lawfully habitable, not by a longshot. I managed to make it habitable but it took 6 years to save the $ to really fix it up. Now it suffers from deferred maintenance, but it has a stylish gothic decor. And lots of crown molding and picture rail. Gotta have crown molding. I cannot abide by rooms without molding, even if it's just tasteful, simple stuff.

Posted by: Debby Doberman Schultz at June 13, 2022 02:28 AM (a4EWo) Well, I used Sherwin Williams. Normally I'm a benjamin moore person, but when my brother's painters came in they wanted the sherwin williams. They said they improved it a shitload, and I watched them, and it seemed to flow really nice while doing the edging, so I have been using it and yeah its really nice to work with. They had a color called lightweight beige. Its a very light beige. I used that in the family room, and the kitchen, halls and foyer got a similar color, basically a very slight different shade of beige. They are light colors. It went good with the hardwood floors. The bedroom got a very light blue because it went good with the furniture which is a kind of antique white. I have to do the living room yet, its some weird green, like a light sage, which looks like shit with a red brick fireplace, sooo. The puzzling thing about this place is the fixtures and vanities. The house was built in 1983. Everything in it is pretty much original. Mint, but dated. The shit that was put in this house new was exactly the kind of shit I was ripping out of people's house in 1983 and was already old. The powder room is a miserable joke. I have all the new stuff to redo it, so its on the list. It has a dark brown formica vanity and top, dark shit brown with...a frigging mint green sink and toilet. WTF??? that shit was already old, dead, and buried by 1983. How the hell did it end up in a new house is puzzling. That crap was from the 70's, and somehow got time warped here. I think a lot of old stock ended up here somehow.

There is a video on Youtube somewhere of ol' Marlin actually doing some wet work, and mixing it up with some beast. He actually did it, at least in his younger days. Marlin got pissed at Johnny Carson making those jokes about Marlin sitting the Jeep with a martini while Jim wrestled the tiger and such. They told him, Marlin, when Johnny Carson is making jokes about you, that means you've made the big time. You're beloved Marlin. Johnny is ragging on you out of love. :-) That settled him down. Jim was Jim Fowler. Died in 2019 at the age of 89. Marlin died in '86 at the age of 81. Posted by: publius, Rascally Rapscallion (Mzdiz) at June 13, 2022 04:47 AM (Mzdiz) 522

Posted by: Publius Redux at June 13, 2022 01:35 That was well said. Condolences on your losses. We also lost both my in laws, and several other important folks in our lives, in about just over a year. It really sucks. Posted by: Farmer at June 13, 2022 04:59 AM (55Qr6) 523

Are we talking abut how we came to AoS?
Instapundit Where Ace is still frequently linked, and damn near plagiarized. Posted by: Miklos, Cross-Functional Trainer at June 13, 2022 01:38 I don't recall exactly how I landed here, but it might have been a reference on LGF as it went hell. I know there's a lot of LGF refugees here. Posted by: Farmer at June 13, 2022 05:08 AM (55Qr6) 525

I remember the LGF meltdown. I ran away and never looked back. I read Insty pretty much every day but never comment on that one. (I think you have to sign in to Google or PJ Media or something to comment there.)
Posted by: Theodore at June 13, 2022 12:41 AM (GJnvT) I was kicked off of LGF by Chuckles for linking an article at Instsy concerning Barky's birth certificate. Found Ace and never looked back. Still read Grouchy Old Cripple every so often, but this is my hangout place for many years. The Horde is unlike any other group on the intertubes. FBI announces it will not accept violence. OK, feddies, here's what you do: Call Texas Rangers HQ in Austin, tell them you might have a problem coming up. They will tell you about the "One riot, one Ranger" program. However many riots you have, you'll get the same number of Rangers.
