OT: Need a little tech advice. Last week the MagSafe power cord on my MacBook Air (ca. 2014) stopped charging the battery. I bought a new one, a real Apple cord. It worked fine all weekend and yesterday. This morning the little light stopped glowing and the computer doesn't seem to know it's connected to the wall.
I tried unplugging and re-plugging after 30 seconds. I tried a different socket; removed the extension cord and plugged the charger into the socket. I even rebooted the computer. No luck. There apparently is a fix involving resetting the System Management Controller. Anybody tried that? I've read about other companies doing the same thing. Selkies, aka were-seals: ". . . mythological beings capable of therianthropy, changing from seal to human form by shedding their skin. They are found in folktales and mythology originating from the Northern Isles of Scotland.
"The folktales frequently revolve around female selkies being coerced into relationships with humans by someone stealing and hiding their sealskin, thus exhibiting the tale motif of the swan maiden type." Hydro *is* green energy. It's the greenest. Once the dam is built, it's emissions-free. Hydro is spectacular if you have rivers and land to do it. All those datacenters that companies sited in Washington (mostly in the Columbia River valley) because of that cheap, plentiful hydro power and low land cost are going to be burning a fair amount of expensive, scarce diesel to make up the difference. I'm glad I'm not a site reliability engineer at one of those places. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at June 21, 2022 10:18 AM (WWh8n) 348

Cereals are actually bad. They are loaded with sugars and carbohydrates, dyes and chemical sweeteners. Don't even look up how much rodent fecal particulate is in a box of Cheerios.
They were promoted by people like C.W. Post as base of the Food Pyramid. The government was good to endorse that because grain farmers saw a boom in grain sales when cereals exploded on the scene. I haven't had cereal in years. Don't miss it. Some people think a bowl of cereal is the whole breakfast meal. It shouldn't be. Like they say, "Part of a good breakfast." 98 Michael Corleone might have stayed in Italy if the car hadn't blown up. But I don't know that his language skill was what it needed to be
I wonder if the whole village girl episode is a foreshadowing of how Michael's life goes. He was in love with Kay, and then he sees a lust object. He immediately forgets what he is supposed to do and uses his charisma, family connections, and strategic skills to obtain the lust object. This time there are no long term consequences and she's gone by the time he returns to the US. For the rest of the series he pays the consequences for his other actions. I hereby report one of the dumbest conversations I've ever overheard, at the hair salon the other day.
Fortyish woman with pink hair: I had to go for a colonoscopy the other day but it didn't go very well. The doctor was so mean, I'm not going back to him. Hair stylist: What happened? Pink hair woman: I couldn't stand that stuff you're supposed to drink the night before. I couldn't make myself swallow it. So I didn't drink most of it, but I told them I did. They had to stop the procedure. The doctor yelled at me! He was so rude! Hair stylist: You're kinda young to have to have a colonscopy. Pink hair woman: Well, my primary said I should start having them because both my parents had colon cancer. But I just can't stand drinking that stuff Note that this imbecile gave no thought at all to the rationale for drinking "that stuff" or to the fact that she completely wasted the time of the physician and medical staff. And she actually thought she could lie about having cleaned out her colon and somehow they wouldn't find out. And yeah, this dolt had a "Dump Trump" bumper sticker on her car.
