Biden's Average Approval Rating Sinks Into the Thirties

Screenshot (2310).png

He hit another new low, this one in the Morning Consult poll.

Note that when we speak of new low, we're generally speaking of lows in that particular firm's polling history. That's how Biden is always racking up so many fresh lows.

Screenshot (2309).png

The Morning Consult skews Democrat, IIRC.

More:

The latest survey found that 58% of voters disapprove of Biden's job performance and 39% approve. It marks the 46th president's lowest approval rating and highest disapproval rating in 62 weekly surveys conducted since he took office in January 2021.

For comparison, Biden's latest numbers are worse than Donald Trump's were at this time four years ago, when 45% approved and 52% disapproved of the former president. Biden's popularity, or lack thereof, mirrors Trump's standing in June 2020, when the nation was grappling with the twin crises of the pandemic and the response to the murder of George Floyd.

Republicans are far more strident in their disdain for Biden than Democrats are in their support: 80% of GOP voters "strongly disapprove" of Biden's job handling, compared with 37% of Democrats who "strongly approve" of it.

I "strongly approve" of Donkey-Chompers posting "candids" with her new boyfriend, Oral Sex Phantom.

iwenttoschoolandigotthebigd.jpg

Maybe she's just chugging a delicious Invisible Yoo-Hoo. Who can say for certain.

The poll finds the parties tied 42-42 on the congressional ballot question but the poll skews Democrat (IIRC) and besides, the Democrats need to be leading on this question by at least two or three points to even be competitive.

Quinippiac's new poll is so bad I'd say it must be an outlier, except for the fact it's about Joe Biden, we've seen numbers about this low for him before: They find that his approval rating has now fallen to 33%, with 55% disapproving.

Americans give President Joe Biden a negative 33 - 55 percent job approval rating with 12 percent not offering an opinion. Biden's 33 percent job approval among Americans ties the low that he received in Quinnipiac University national polls on April 13, 2022 and January 12, 2022.

...

Americans were asked about President Biden's handling of...

the response to the coronavirus: 47 percent approve, while 46 percent disapprove;

the response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine: 42 percent approve, while 50 percent disapprove;

gun violence: 32 percent approve, while 59 percent disapprove;

the economy: 28 percent approve, while 64 percent disapprove.

MOST URGENT ISSUE

Americans say inflation (34 percent) is the most urgent issue facing the country today followed by gun violence (17 percent).

Among Republicans, the top issues are inflation (46 percent) followed by immigration (14 percent). No other issue reached double digits.

Among Democrats, the top issues are gun violence (31 percent) followed by inflation (15 percent) and election laws (11 percent).

Among independents, the top issues are inflation (37 percent) followed by gun violence (16 percent). No other issue reached double digits.

As far as control of Congress, 46% want the GOP to win control of Congress, while 41% want Democrats to win. That sounds a lot more reasonable than the Morning Consult's claimed 42-42 tie.

Meanwhile, Democrats are increasingly frustrated with the old incompetent r@pist they "fortified the election" to install in the White House.

Democrats are growing increasingly frustrated by what they say is a flat-footed White House that is slow to catch up on solving a seemingly never-ending cascade of problems in the face of an unrelenting news cycle.

They point to the recent baby formula shortage as the latest example of how President Biden has failed to get ahead of the story, allowing Republicans to set the narrative as yet another failure for the White House. But they also highlighted Biden's lag on other issues at the top of voter's minds: inflation and gas prices.

...

"It's really simple: 'Be the f--ing president!," said one Democratic strategist frustrated by the administration. "I realize it's tough and you're drinking out of a fire hose every single day, but there are things you can do to control the public perception and they haven't done any of that."

Yes that's right, Paper-Pusher: It's all just about changing perceptions. There is absolutely no underlying reality. There are no hard facts that must be confronted. Everything is just a matter of wordsmithing the right catchphrases and social media zingers, right?

Democratic strategist Christy Setzer said the White House has shown some naivete in recent months in trying to control the message.

"It may come down to not understanding what they're up against -- both the media environment and today's GOP," Setzer said. "Biden did speak out on guns, on baby formula, on inflation ... but the traditional tactics aren't breaking through, and it doesn't seem as though they're taking in that information, re-trenching, and trying new approaches when it's falling flat."

The Democrat Party is filled with academics and wordsmiths and pollsters and paper-pushers and has very few people who actually do things, so they just cannot conceive of actual real-world problems which require actual real-world fixes. Everything is just a matter of "new approaches" of "messaging." Just slapping new labels and new superlatives on to old bottles of snake-oil.

Case in point: The Democrat Party had the opportunity to ask Janet Yellen about a real-world problem that is part of her portfolio, inflation.

She recently admitted she was wrong to say that inflation would not be a problem, and then, when it showed itself to be a problem, to downplay it as "transitory."

Instead, they chose to help her with "messaging," by allowing her to opine about virtually every other subject under the sun, including gun violence, climate change, and abortion.

Everything but inflation, the big problem that's actually a central concern to the Treasury Department she heads.

But don't worry -- she has a plan.

Although she says she expects inflation to remain "high," her plan for dealing with this high inflation to "very much hope" that it will come down.

Oh, you're going to very much hope that inflation comes down? See, I didn't realize you were going to very much hope it would come down. I didn't know you were breaking out the big economic guns like that.

Apologies for having doubted you.

Via Twitchy: I didn't even realize this.

Biden has chosen to make no comment whatsoever about one of his communist fellow-travelers attempting to assassinate a Supreme Court Justice.

They straight up encourage violence from their fellow radicals. They just refuse to condemn it, or even acknowledge it.

105 Ah, it's the messaging. That's it.

Actually, no you can't.
Every time people go to gas up, they see this. And prices of gas (and just about everything) are rising. Weekly.
This ain't no party, this ain't no disco.
And you can't keep blaming all this on Putin, numbnutz.
At peak production in 2020, the US was pumping in excess of 13.2 million barrels a day of oil. Then Covid hit, consumption and production went way down.
Today, with this "booming" (cough) economy, we are pumping somewhere like 11.7 million barrels a day.
Apparently the government is taking a million barrels a day out of the Strategic Reserve, but little voices tell me this is going to Europe, because they are OUT of oil and gas.
Things are going to get a lot worse. Biden hasn't seen the worst; it is yet to come.
Pro-tip: Look for the "election" variant to come out sometime after Labor Day, and ...whooops! Lock it down and vote by mail, citizens....and amigos.

In fact, not doing their job, refusing to allow anyone else to do their job, is rather kind of the point.

They are there to manage perceptions and get people used to the idea and conditioned to notion that nothing can be done. About anything. Issue some non-sequiters and thought ending cliches, blame Whitey, and call it a day.

I remember years ago some Mosquito borne illness was making the rounds in our state. Very deadly. Our health director just publicly stated "Keep your fingers crossed".

------

The affordable EV are really small.

Besides, there are several reasons not to get an electric car. You have to charge it quite often, which makes road trips ridiculous.

And more importantly, global warming/climate change is bullshit, using the convenient system we have for putting the gas in the car makes a lot more sense. Electricity comes from something other than magic and lastly, I like the system of using fossil fuel to power our cars. It's clean and not adding shit to the environment at least not any more than an EV.

There's honestly a lot to consider. Electricity isn't free, but I wonder about the lifetime cost of owning and EV (and charging) versus the cost of gasoline (lifetime) for and equivalent sized car, which is likely well over $5/gallon (national average...your local price will likely vary). I don't see it dropping again.
No oil changes. Not much engine maintenance. No exhaust system.
And there is also the cost of installing a charging station in your house/garage. (one time capital cost) And possibly replacing the battery pack at some point in the life of the EV. Not cheap.
The entry level Teslas are around $45k-50k. The nicer models are more expensive.

Since I don't think extra CO2 is bad for the environment, I won't care that fossil fuels are providing the electricity. I would care though if more and more people got EVs such that rolling blackouts would become the norm. Oh, and I'd still have a regular gas burning vehicle for road trips.

249 Weird how all the proponents of electric cars ignore things like how long it takes to charge them; how they seem to catch fire often; the huge quantity of rare earth elements necessary to make them; how detrimental mining these elements is to the environment and to the little children who are usually the miners...

Went to an antique and vintage car rally for Memorial Day and there were cars there from as far back as the 1930's and they were STILL running! Some hotshot was there with his new electric truck and he was braying like a donkey over it. I made the prediction that his car wouldn't last ten years, while every other car at that rally will still be running. ( oh, and did I mention that you can actually FIX an old combustion engine car if it breaks down? Good luck fixing the electric ones...)

I dunno about ever seeing $1.80 gas again, but if oil stabilized at $65-75/barrel, gas would be about half what it is now. ~ $2.50 /gallon
The electric grid is weaker now that it has been ever in my life.
I know of 4 coal burning power stations torn down on the Ohio River (Ohio side). One was really big, and one was only about 30 years old.
Ohio used to be an electric exporting state. Now, after California, it is the second largest electricity IMPORTER.
This is all planned. This did not just happen.

Word.

Back in the Army days *koff koff* years ago, we had an extension cable for the PRC-77 batteries to keep them under your armpit so they'd actually work when temps got down to subzero. From what I understand, the problem still persisted after the Big Green Weenie introduced lithium batteries in the early 90s, even though they were supposed to be okay in the colder temps.

Try keeping a Tesla battery pack under your armpit while you're driving during a Green Bay, WI rush hour.

401 My problem with EVs is not so much the function of the vehicle itself, as with the inherent difference in the scale and centralization of fuel distribution.

Gas distribution is relatively decentralized, i.e. individual trucks going to individual stations, stored in myriad tanks, kept in a can in your garage etc. And all along the way, individual trucks, stations, etc can make choices who they buy from and how much.

Electricity (sufficient to charge a car) inherently requires a utility of a massive scale, and a centrally maintained (and therefore centrally controlled) distribution system, i.e. the freaking electric grid.

So basically three or four guys in cahoots with the government get to control, ration and/or deny you the energy for your basic transportation, and maintain complete control over same on a daily basis.

What could possibly go wrong?

402 If I was 5' 7" and weighed 145, I might consider an EV. But the Biden Administration can kiss my 6' 2" 200lbs. fat ass if they think I'm giving up my truck.

403 >>> Yes and those trucks are a very small % of all trucks in the country. For every truck pulling 11k pounds there are 80 that have never towed anything.

Both my neighbors have trucks. I would bet neither of them knows how to hook up a trailer. They are basically luxury cars that are just big. Which is cool but whatever you want. But stop making these ridiculous edge case reasons why EVs can’t be a thing. And also in case you haven’t noticed both the f150 lightning and Rvian trucks are on sale now, both can tow a whole bunch too.

Your neighborhood is not the world, Pauline Kael. How do you know the % percent of trucks doing work? What are you defining as work? You mention towing so I guess the other example of the trades guy hauling a shitload of tools doesn't count? You think that the EV trucks will be able to do even a fraction of what gas trucks do? Do you also think that tearing down coal and gas power plants and replacing them with solar and wind will match power output?

404 It's funny how we aren't hearing much about Modern Monetary Theory now that inflation is at 8%. I guess not hearing that nonsense is the silver lining in this mess.

406 Apropos of nothing, I make my plebian coffee very strong, and then use canned evaporated milk to cut it. I have been using Wallyworld canned milk at 70 cents a can for years. Today I bought a flat at $1.32 a can, nearly a 100% increase over the last 3 months.

407 Like all actresses who answer a casting call and then end up getting a part, AOC is a complete dumbshit.

409 If Repugs would have passed Build Back Better, Biden's approval would skyrocket. He was unanimously elected to implement that, but was prevented from doing so by jealous obstructionists.

410 Because of the truck driver shortage some companies are going to driverless trucks 1 million quatloos that those truck get hijacked before they ever get to their destination.

411 I'll buy an EV when there's 50 charging stations in every town, the power grid can support those stations, they get 600 miles to a charge and they don't look like something Robin would drive and act like it's as cool as the Batmobile.

Bingo. I did the math on my car. 2015 mazda 6 that I got in 2014, gets 37 mpg on the cruise, never less than 30mpg. Car was $22,500. Got 43K on the clock. A lot of the time I owned it gas was around $2 a gallon, and I have only put gas in it 3 times since gas was $3.50 a gallon.. I just did the math at a straight 30MPG at $3 a gallon and i still haven't spent 27K total in the 8 years I own that car. How much is an electric car?

413 Which makes me wonder...if a white man puts on black face AND a dress should they be cancelled or lauded?
Posted by: 18-1

The past few days, the random ad on my Roku box has been for some movie stream playing "White Chicks." Two black male FBI agents undercover in whiteface and drag. I figured that had to go back to the 90s, but it was made in 2004. Only 18 years ago.

This slippery slope is steep. Cliff-like, even.

415 I have been wondering:
Is Biden's approval actually sinking?
Or do more people feel they can say it openly?
And which is worse for Biden?
More importantly, which is better for the opposition?

416 S-I-L asked me "Okay, EV's don't need gasoline, but why don't they still need oil?"

Not a completely stupid question. Actually, any question you can't answer without talking about electromagnetic fields is not a bad question.
