LOL: CNN Head Chris Licht Tells Anchors They Need to Start Pretending to Be Objective, Neutral Journalists, Or They May Be "Ousted"
WASHINGTON POST WORKERS ALL ORDERED TO TRANSMIT CORPORATE PROPAGANDA

This will last two weeks.

CNN's new boss, Chris Licht, is evaluating whether personalities and programming that grew polarizing during the Trump era can adapt to the network's new priority to be less partisan.

Why it matters: If talent cannot adjust to a less partisan tone and strategy, they could be ousted, three sources familiar with the matter tell Axios.

Details: Licht wants to give personalities that may appear polarizing a chance to prove they're willing to uphold the network's values so that they don't tarnish CNN's journalism brand.

For on-air talent, that includes engaging in respectful interviews that don't feel like PR stunts. For producers and bookers, that includes making programming decisions that are focused on nuance, not noise.

Between the lines: CNN's tone became more partisan and combative during the Trump era and under the leadership of former CNN president Jeff Zucker.

To conservative critics, some on-air personalities, like Jim Acosta and Brian Stelter, have become the face of the network's liberal shift.

Be smart: Licht doesn't want to necessarily shy away from personality programming, especially in prime time, but he wants to ensure that partisan voices don't dominate in a way that harms CNN, a source notes.

Licht also set up rules for when the "Breaking News" chyron could be put up, believing it's being abused just to "alarm" viewers unnecessarily and, left unsaid: drive ratings via clickbait panic.

"I would like to see CNN evolve back to the kind of journalism that it started with, and actually have journalists, which would be unique and refreshing," Malone told CNBC last year.

Yeah good luck with that. Is Don Lemon really going to be a journalist? Don't make me laugh.

Are Brian Stelter and Jim Acosta being set up as the scapegoats to be sacrificed to prove that CNN is now nonpartisan and credible?

More Quick Hits:

Karine Jean-Pierre has discovered, as major corporate vendors have discovered, that one solution to frustrations about price inflation is shrinkflation.

Thanks to andycanuck.

Great Stuff via Black Orchid: The Washington Post has sent out a threatening email' which declares both that they will not abide sexism or racism (take that, Dave Weigel) and will also not abide attacking colleagues in person or online (possibly telling Jose Del Real he can't tell Felicia Somnez to take a chill pill, and maybe also warning Felicia Somnez that she had better stop riling up her Twitter Catlady Army or she'll be fired herself.).

So there's a lot of discord and anger at the Post.

So you know what the Post also did?

They told their employees to tweet out what a "collaborative," "collegial," and "fun" place it is to work at.

Jim Treacher has caught all the Corporate Insect-Persons re-transmitting the Hive Message.

Check it out before they begin deleting!!!

Do I have this wrong?

Is this in fact a protest against the Post? Forbidden against speaking out against Somnez and her scalp-hunting, have they turned to protesting by heaping sarcastic praise on the Post?

The writers and editors of the news are the ones who need to be less partisan, not the animatronic zombies who speak that which is in front of them.

157 OT: Just got home after a visit to Petco, to see what kind of cat and kitten food they have (or don't have). They are almost out of Royal Canin for adult cats; no kitten chow. The less pricey canned food, higher quality than Friskies and 9 Lives, is there in plenty, not much more expensive than when I used to buy it for Chekov and Wolf. They have Baby Blue kitten food, small cans in a 6 pack for $9.00, and I think some dry food for kittens. And scoop-it-yourself litter, the refill, is still $5.99 for 15 or 16 lbs.

So if I adopt this little black kitten this weekend, I'll have to hit the food store or Petco beforehand to get stocked up. I figure if I feed him good stuff from the beginning, he'll have a better chance of good health and a long life.

I have the water fountain and a bunch of toys. And I'll need to put my pipe rack away so he won't get playful with it. He's 4 months old, so he should know not to chew lamp cords. Anything else? It's been a while since I adopted a kitten.

I didn't let her outside (backyard) for a month though she'd stare out the window at it - I wanted to make sure she felt like she lived here first. Now, she goes in and out the back window (there's a ledge there next to the fence she jumps down from) all the time. There's a couch against that wall that I lounge on and she'll come leaping in and over the couch in one bound and then continue on blazing down the hall. I feed her as much as she wants of whatever she wants.

"Tarnish"?

That ship has not only sailed, it's sunk, corroded into dust, been transported to a subduction zone by plate tectonics, and recycled into the magma of the Earth's core.

In a billion or two years perhaps it will reconcentrate into a surface-accessible ore deposit, and be mined and made into a new ship that actually has credibility.

But that ship will not be named "CNN".

It is supposed to be when multiple systems or groups are combined such that the output of the whole is greater than the individual contributions.

Often times it is just used by inept management to explain why something worked without letting on that management has absolutely no idea why something worked. The reason something worked is probably because a small group of people got together to bust butt and make something work in spite of roadblocks and boneheaded mistakes of management that management stays willfully ignorant of.

And it is beginning to dawn on Karen, and all her Junta-mates, that their ideological bullshit is falling on deaf ears.
